We stopped in a few Saturdays ago after picking up a friend from the airport, we all were craving Chinese food. It was around 7pm and the strip/plaza had trash scattered about in front of all the shops. Even the parking lot was trashy. The restaurant is very small and only has 4 or 5 small tables. The place doesn't look very clean. There's a bunch of dust on the ceiling fans. My husband said the restroom was nasty. But guess what?! Their health score is 100. I couldn't believe it. So let's leave the trashy parking lot and dusty fan out of this because I was hangry and had to satisfy my craving. Our food was served in styrofoam take out plates even though we said it was for dining in. We all enjoyed our meal and even took our leftovers home. I decided to pick up our lunches today and wanted to try someplace new. I found this place off Donelson Pike. At first I thought the place was closed down. It kind of has a boarded up vibe. I walked in and was instantly greeted with a smile. I ordered two lunch specials.....$7.95 Chicken w mixed vegs and Shrimp w mixed vegs and each included a an egg roll It was all very good! My wife and I was looking for some fast food preferably a place that we can eat in. We were disappointed and taken back by the plywood boarded up paneling around the ordering desk. Staff opened the plexiglass shield around him to take our order. We felt very unsafe as if they were robbed many times in this dangerous neighborhood. The sitting area didn't look organized and not clean. We ended up ordering take-out and left the restaurant as soon as we got the food. This is a real mom and pop Chinese takeout. I mean it. Mom and pop were cooking and son was taking orders. Everything was fresh and delicious. Everything was crispy, well flavored and not greasy. We tried the sesame chicken and the chicken lo-mein. The lo-mein was delicious. Some of the best I've had. The portions were very generous and they provided us with everything we needed to enjoy it at our hotel. If we lived in the area we would take out from here often. I should've took the hint when I was the only person in there during lunch rush. Literally ordered my sesame seed chicken lunch at 12:37 and didn't get my food until 12:58. That's 20 mins to get my meal when I was the only person in there. How and why is that possible? Get back to my hotel and took 2 bites and threw the food away. Best Chinese take out on the east side of Nashville (Airport, Donelson/Hermitage). If you like shrimp, they have the biggest shrimp I've ever seen offered at Chinese eateries including buffets. The family is authentically Chinese and are very hard workers, doing double time to make sure everything tastes great. The hot and sour soup is super spicy and sour too. No blandness here and always super hot to the touch. Very reasonably priced, you can get a soup and egg roll for less than $5. read more

If you've tried egg rolls around town you know what I'm talking about, places passing off these little things as egg rolls. New China on Donelson Pike DOES NOT disappoint! I travel a lot for work and if I don't have a car I tend to go for Chinese delivery for dinner. But I also tend to get discouraged since Chinese restaurants by the airport are hit or miss. I was very pleased with New China. I ordered the orange chicken combination platter, and they let me swap steamed rice for the fried rice and a spring roll for the egg roll. I also ordered Chinese donuts. Everything was very good, and I still have enough leftovers for another meal. The price was great, $7 for the combo platter, $3 for the donuts, and only $1 for a delivery service charge. Sometimes when I order blindly from a place I'm unfamiliar with I end up getting charged $20 for mediocre food I don't even want to eat the next day due to BS service charges and overpriced menu items, so the quality at New China was great for the price. The staff was also super nice. It may sound silly, but I appreciated how nice the lady was when she took my order on the phone, a lot of times I find people to be rude and impatient when taking phone orders, so it was refreshing to talk to someone who was so nice and helpful. The delivery guy was nice too! So overall the food, prices, and service was great, I would order food here again. read more

I've stopped writing reviews after one visit to an establishment. One visit is MY first experience, two visits gives a better idea and three visits tells the REAL STORY. I am happy to say that after three visits to New China Restaurant, it rocks! Each time out they have met and exceeded my expectations. Okay Alert Alert -- this place is Cheap. I mean lunch, a can soda, and tax was $6.45. How is that possible?? I asked the nice women there what was the spiciest -- and she told me. I asked if it came with onions and peppers. She said, "No, but trust me" Fine. I'm up for adventure. And about 10 minutes later the most yummy super spicy, chicken with onions and peppers, fried rice AND a egg roll AND a coke came out HOT flavorful and for $6.45. It's a miracle. We stayed at a nearby hotel, got it at 10:30 pm and needed something open. The do delivery, but the wait was about 30 min compared to 10 if we picked up, so we picked it up. We got the Kung pow beef and the chicken lo mein and asked for both spicy. The portions were huge! The chicken lo mein was excellent but the beef was not very good - weird texture. Paid about 22$ + 4$ tip. They were 10 minutes away from me. I waited an hour. Everything was great! They gave me plenty of sweet & sour sauce. I mean plenty. This venerable Americanized Chinese joint is a common stop for lunch. 6.50 gets you a big enough serving of chicken chow mein to last you two days with the egg roll (drink extra) . It's a family run operation with a friendly proprietor who will take pains to make sure you get the correct order. Food wise it's unsurprising and unremarkable but hot cheap good in portion size and quickly prepared. My preference is for the chicken or shrimp chow mein as I find the lo mein noodles a little too chewy and a bit messy for cubicle dining. The shrimp with lobster sauce is also runny and a poor choice for a to go order. The various fried chicken orders I've found to be excellent. Expect to find the usual yellow rice chopped veggies pre made fried egg roll and fortune cookie. No surprises no disappointments. read more

I'm disappointed. My husband and I have been getting Chinese takeout at New China for years. I've always recommended it to everyone. My favorite is Chicken with Garlic Sauce. The past few times the quality has gone down (new management?). I've given them the benefit of the doubt and gone back and I have to concede that it's just not as good anymore. This last time I ordered Chicken/Garlic sauce and the chicken was overcooked and chewy. I threw it out after eating some vegetables. My husband ordered the General Tso, as usual, and it was also chewy as it was the time before. We weren't sure if it was chicken inside. The time before that I ordered the Happy Family seafood dish. While I love lobster tail, it was very chewy and dry. The rest of the dish was okay but not as good as it used to be. After many years I'm looking for a new place for Chinese takeout. read more
