Wow! Just Wow.. called the day before 12/23 to check if they had sneakers that my son wanted. Showed up the 24th 10ish. To pick up. They where closed!!! SMH !! Definitely didn't want the sales. Yesterday, I had a 5 star experience at New Balance! I worked with the owner to find the best running show and training shoe I could find. It all started with the proper measurement of my feet, followed by a scan on my feet and gait. I ended up with the most perfect fit sneaker of my life. Size 12! Hey, in and out. I am not a general reviewer of normal app areal or other service places, just generally when really good or bad. My kid needed shoes, I was just at bed bath and beyond, and there happened to be a New Balance in the same parking lot. I jumped on yelp, went to the reviews, and immediately questioned my findings. Most reviews were either 1 star or 5 star. I immediately go to one stars, you have to... most were of rude or neglect customer service. Gotta say, on this experience they were completely wrong. Right when I walked through the door someone helping another customer said that someone would be right with you. Within 30 seconds someone was with us and explaining the children's shoe size and measuring my daughter. She is indecisive, and a bit slow, but this guy did not move. Although, the store literally started to get flooded with new customers, he greeted each one saying he would be with them very shortly. Great service. Wish I remembered his name. Good rep! read more

As a first time visitor to the store, I came to return sneakers I ordered online for my kids that did not fit. I was also interested in purchasing at least 3 pairs of sneakers at the store. There were several people working in the store but could not be bothered to help me. I was told they could not process my return as others were ahead of me waiting to try on shoes. What?! There was no dedicated employee at the register to process the return or even assist in the kids section. Then two people walked in after me and got help immediately. I walked out. Went to checkout a specific pair of running shoes. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable but was adamant I size up despite me knowing my size since I already ran in that particular shoe. Despite that shoe having a multitude of different color options they had very little stock. I was told it would take a week or so to order online from the store. I've been to New Balance Raleigh several times looking for good shoes and each time was a great experience. One time, I went looking for a pair of high quality running shoes. They looked at how I walked and what I wanted / needed in a shoe. Then they put both shoes on me, tied them up and made me walk around. They were careful to make sure my big toe landed in the right place in the shoe to prevent ingrown toe nails. The shoes ended up being really comfortable and a half size bigger than I would have picked for myself without help. The people there were really knowledgable about what I needed and friendly without being pushy. They also have a policy where, if you run in the shoes and they end up not being what you want, they'll take it back and find a better fitting pair. I thought that was pretty cool, since most shoe stores have a "wear it, buy it" policy. Overall, you pay more but I also think it's worth it. The right pair of running shoes is really important in the long run and they help make sure you find exactly what you need. read more

I have gone to this store twice and have received horrible service. Maybe it is just me or that I am just going at that wrong time. My family has gone there and have never had a problem. The first time they did not have the shoe that I wanted in my size and was basically told I was SOL, they did not even offer to call the Durham store for me. So, I left and ordered my shoes online. I decided to give them another try yesterday (it has been almost a year since the first trip). I went in to buy my boyfriend a new pair of shoe as a surprise and at the spur of the moment. Figuring that they might be linked to other stores and be able to find his information. When I asked if they could looked up his information (he bought his previous pair in Winston-Salem) I was informed that they were not linked to one another and could not do that for me. Again, they did not even offer to call and get the information. So I just left. I use to work at an Athletic shoe store a while ago and I always offered to call to see if another store might have it or look for additional information. It is called customer service. I would think that you might be willing to go the extra mile to get sales for your store... Guess not. From now on, I am not even going to bother going to the store and just order the shoes online from New Balance and pay the extra money for shipping. read more

They will watch you walk and recommend shoes based on what they see with your gait. They will bring several shoes for you to try on. Awesome product and very knowledgeable staff! I personally experienced this in May/June 2010 and had Cale/Cole (sorry cannot recall proper spelling of name) wait on me. Very patient, thorough and knowledgeable about the products along with my needs for footwear. I was blown away when he told me if my physical therapist did not approve of the sneakers to come back within 30 days. This was not an issue as she highly approved! In Nov 2011, my Mom was visiting and I took her there to buy her some sensible walking shoes/sneakers. She worked many years in retail and Customer Service standing for long periods of time up north and could not believe how very courteous Cale/Cole was and knowledgeable of her issues. He even inserted her orthotics that I had just purchased for her to try out and get a better feel. She was instantly walking so much better. She even found a pair of sandals for inside when she is not wearing sneakers. I could not thank Cale/Cole enough for all of his help. Sorry for the delay of writing this review but as we age style and fashion might not be a trend as comfort to keep us stable and moving. What is even more impressive about NB is that they are finally made in USA! So, one certainly does not mind spending a little extra money for sneakers that last! UPDATE: I went back to this store late fall 2012 as I needed some dress shoes the Aravon brand on a weekend. I could not get a salesperson to wait on me. No, they were not that busy. When I finally got someone to help me, the very mature guy had no idea about the brand. I ended up leaving and get 2 pairs of shoes someplace else and bought my Aravon's at FootSolutions. I'm not sure why there are so many 1 star reviews even after reading those reviews. This store is great!! I've been here on multiple occasions and always received stellar service. Mark is SO patient (I take a long time deciding on shoes) and knowledgeable/experienced. I like that the staff isn't pushy and does not automatically push you into the most expensive shoe. The store is always clean, there's plenty of parking, customer service has always been stellar and the product is quality! I'm also not the fittest runner and never feel judged by the more fit staff, I feel like they genuinely listen to your workout routine and want to give informed guidance on the type of shoe that's going to help you kill your workout. When he asked if decided against a shoe he had previously pulled out, and I said no I hadn't decided yet, he threw the shoe back down into the box and walked away to the back without saying anything -- it was very rude. He was impatient with me, and I honestly felt he seriously just did not care about helping me or answering any of my questions. I didn't know what size or width was best for me, and he didn't really offer much insight. My experience at this New Balance Store has always been GREAT! The Manager, Mark A. noticed that the sneaker I purchased a few months back was not fitting right re-fitted me and gave me an exchange of the same sneaker at no cost. I was grateful as I have bad feet and I walk so much better. The folks who work at this store really care and do listen to your needs. My husband was also fitted for a good walking shoe and has been enjoying them very much. New Balance makes shoes for wide feet and they last a long time. I was referred here by my physical therapist, so I had high expectations and they were beyond exceded. I came in looking for a new pair of running shoes and was told to seek out Jason to get the right fit. He found a pair of shoes that feel like they were made specifically for me. I ended up going with Jason's recommendation, a pair of 1260v5s with some Powerstep Pulse Insoles. They felt perfect as soon as I tried them on. The right amount of stability and cushioning. So far they are the best shoes I've run in, and I've tried just about every brand out there, so that is saying a lot. When you come in the staff will look at how you stand, walk, and run; and match you with the right shoes to make the most out of whatever activity your into. I know the shoes here can be pricy, but I've been to several shoe stores that find and fit the best shoe for you and I was surprised that New Balance came out on top. For me finding a store that matches you up with a pair of shoes that helps you perform to your full potential without experiencing pain is priceless, and I have found that here. I completely trust the shoe recomendations here and I highly suggest you try this place out for your next pair of shoes. BUY ONLINE! After a great experience selecting my shoes I purchased from the store only to learn later that they do not honor their return policy. How many hours into a specialty shoe in the first 30 days. I purchased trail shoes in June and three months later, wore then for 5 days and discovered a manufacturing defect. When I returned them, they cited the 30 day policy and could not help me. I asked for a New Balance regional manager and they said they were an independent store. Really! they may be independent but New Balance is on the brick outside. They want me to believe they have no relationship with New Balance. I sat in the parking lot and call New Balance Customer Service. When I described the problem, they said it was a manufacturing defect that happens. I received a credit for the shoes plus a shipping label. If you need to select and try on shoes, go by the store but purchase online so you can receive the after sales support you deserve on a $100 pair of shoes. read more

Please correct/train your staff properly. I was debating on giving a 3 stars instead of 1 to value the actual items they had in stock for me vs another location, and another star to the rest of the employees working today. I believe a safe bet would be to ask for Mark or Jason when you're in the Raleigh store, and ask for Carole in the Durham store. You should always go TO THE STORE to try on shoes and ask for deals, doesn't matter if the staff are rude or not, you need to try on shoes. I'm not confident buying online anymore as they have issued last years model for "current" shoes. That stated, I didn't think to make a big deal of it, but my wife convinced me of how rude Chip was. First walking in there were 4 agents, 2 chatting behind the counter when I first walked in. No hello or greeting from afar, or connection when getting closer, but no worries I went in head first and just asked for my pick-up order of my shoes. I told them both my last name, and I told them I paid for my shoes and had a pick-up here. They both look puzzled as if I was speaking a different language and then remembered they had a pick-up order for shoes today, and re-asked me "what was your last name?". This didn't look too promising and my wife instinctively told me "you should talk with another agent since he looks a lot nicer". I thought nothing of it and against my wife's usual better judgment, I went ahead and thought the best of Chip. Chip dropped off the shoes and walked away. I tried on the shoes, and upon returning I asked him basic questions "should I get the tighter shoe but the right length, or the longer wider shoe but deal with the extra length? I felt as if I was bothering him, that he didn't want to be there, maybe he was just having a bad day. Based on old reviews this may not be the case. There is a history. He first expertly said "it's whatever you want,"...I was hoping for something more concrete but maybe I'm asking for too much, so later I approached the younger agent and asked them both again, to get the 2nd opinion, and the younger said I'd go with the right length, so I said "it's best to just break them then!" and Chip finally agreed. Thanks guys. I'm sorry I need help and you are paid to respond with some thoughtful response. I think working with Carole a couple days before in the sister Durham store severely spoiled me and I expected way too much out. Unfortunately I was sent to Raleigh because the only shoe that met the qualifications "All Black" and "Slip Resistant" and "6E" was at the Glenwood Ave Store. To wrap up I spoke w/Chip and asked should I just return the other shoes (that didn't meet the qualifications) back to the Durham store, because I understand that returning shoes at another property you didn't buy from skews the #'s negatively and I understood there are commissions per sale. After sharing my need to return the shoe/insole he refused to wrap his mind around the idea that I only needed 1 pair of shoes and was puzzled why I was returning the more expensive (non qualified) shoes. The one HONEST thing he did do was he kept saying, "you don't take from Peter to give to Paul," he said that 4 times. Is that a biblical reference for commissions? I'm pretty sure that's not in the Bible. Still, I get it, that's why I asked him what I should do. Unfortunately his resolve was to tell me "yes I can handle things here, but I can't make a return on the whole order, and then resell just the 1 shoe" that I picked up from this store + a pair of shorts (ie - their deal is $100 you save $20, if my product was $84.99 then I bought another $32 pair of shorts to get the deal). You'd think in normal circumstances the company would WANT me to buy more, but because of the commission structure (I bet), he told me I would forfeit the $20 off and I would save nothing, and he couldn't do anything to help me. Again quoting "taking from Peter to give to Paul." I looked at him and asked him "so youre saying that you are taking care of your other reps but there is no way to take care of your guest in front of you?" I told him that the shoe I was getting from him was not "sold" from Carole, I wanted to buy the shoe in Raleigh but Clara the other agent from Durham did not SELL it she spent 2 minutes with me giving me a shoe that didn't fit! She was asked to put a hold for the shoes in Raleigh but she said I'd get the option for another $20 off if I went over $300. Just a backup option! But nope, it was a curse. Literally Chip started "shh"/shushing me. My wife came over from a quarter of the building over and told Chip "please don't shush my husband again." And again, "Shhh", and then Chip says "DAMN!!" I've spent an hour with you! WOW...I sat by myself for 30 min w/my shoes. Total of 10 min or less with Chip in conversation...w/constant short/snippy responses. Chip, quit cussing / shushing your guests. Don't cuss at work. Greet/welcome ppl not demean them. read more

DON'T SHOP HERE! I would give no stars but but that is not an option unfortunately. Customer service is nonexistent at this location. I came in from Chicago to visit my mom, and stopped in to get a pair of running shoes. No one even bothered to greet or acknowledge us. Two employees were standing behind the counter just chatting away, while we were standing there waiting to be serviced. After about five minutes, we had to asked for assistance, and you would have thought we were asking to have free shoes based on the looks we got! They were annoyed that we bothered them and interrupted their conversations. Now they had to actually attempt to provide service to a paying customer. I think I'll be conducting my business online. I will never be visiting the store again and neither will my mom and she lives here and wears nothing but new balance products. read more

I purchased three pairs of tennis shoes from this store. I have a high arch and use a "runner's lace". As a result, the shoe laces were too short to comfortably tie. Mark did not have the exact color of shoe laces I needed in the correct length in stock, so he removed laces from identical shoes to mine and gave me the longer laces. He also gave me a spare set of laces for each shoe. The service I received from this store was exceptional. read more
