(This review is for the Fleet Feet RALEIGH) I have been a loyal customer of Fleet Feet for over 10 years and have recommended the store to many friends. I also brought my kids there for years when they were running XC, so our family has purchased many many pairs of shoes from Fleet Feet. I purchase running shoes there every 4-5 months and, until now, have never once returned a pair of shoes or complained. My most recent purchase was $180 pair of Saucony running shoes. After only about three weeks of use, the sides of the shoes began to wear down significantly. Given my long history with the store, I brought them back expecting at least a conversation about the issue and perhaps some assistance. Instead, the experience was extremely disappointing. The staff seemed disinterested and abrupt, and the interaction made me feel as though I was trying to pull a fast one being dishonest about the issue. After more than a decade of loyal business that was incredibly insulting. Rather than taking the time to understand the problem they insisted it was my issue and possibly the use of gym equipment! The solution they offered was simply another pair of shoes priced lower than the ones I had purchased, and the overall tone felt like they just wanted to move me out the door as quickly as possible. It's unfortunate, because Fleet Feet has always been a store I trusted and recommended. I hope management takes customer loyalty more seriously in the future. read more

I ordered two pair of sneakers and was called for pickup. I am a Black man. I went to the store and was looking at other sneakers patiently waiting, when another customer who was White came in from behind. The representative walks up to me and says I'll be with you in just a second and starts waiting on the white guy. I felt racial overtones and I left. I came back and told the rep about it and he says he was trying to get the customer on the waiting list. Why didn't he put me on the waiting list? So he ask how can I help you? You can't. I was so excited to check out the store in the Village Market but was very disappointed in the customers service-I walked in yesterday and there were 5 employees working-two just talking to each other and two at the register and one helping a customer-the two talking just looked at me and continued to talk-I walked around the store and a couple entered after me and the young female employee stopped talking and literally bolted to the couple to see if they need help while I stood there and watched her-then the male employee looked my way and finally asked if I needed help-this may seem petty but customer service has really been lost lately-I was in there a good 10 minutes and planned on purchasing an expensive pair of Hokas but I walked out! Went in today thinking that I could just walk in and choose the spike running shoes for my daughter. Not so!!! You have to sign in on a board to meet with a consultant personally. At first I thought it was so I could be sold something that I don't need. Totally opposite of what I was thinking! He talked to us all about the shoes, gave her tips on running and even got me a 15% discount on the shoes. He never once tried to pressure me into buying anything else. When I decided to start running at 36, I knew that finding the right pair of shoes could be a make-it-or-break-it proposition. A few local runners recommended Fleet Feet, and I'm glad they did. From the moment I went in I felt like I was joining a family, and the care and attention they've provided me have earned them a customer for life. I never knew that having shoes fitted was such an art, but it is -- and they do it. From the contraption they measure my feet with to the little marks they make on my foot to measure it, it's obvious that fitting shoes is more than asking my size. And then they have me try on what feel like a dozen different pairs -- and if that's not enough, I go outside and they watch me run in them! I also tried one of their training programs (a 5K trail running program), and I was equally delighted with it. Shelly did a wonderful job of turning us into finely tuned running machines (as finely tuned as I'll ever hope to be, that is), and I finished my first 5K trail run last weekend. Like most running geared stores, you'll get some great service here because they really want to get you into the right gear. They do fittings for shoes (of course) but also for 'the girls' if you are looking for a good sports bra. The location of this store is also great- right beside Whole Foods and very convenient for me to stop in right before/after a run for stuff I 'need'. They have a good selection of handheld and belt water bottles, great watches, and excellent Hammer Nutrition products. I also like the 'sweaty bands' they sell here to keep my hair out of my face. They also have a loyalty program and you get 15% off after spending a certain amount. One thing I would like to see here are smartwool socks. Love them for running all year. read more

Came in the other to get new running shoes since I want to start training for half. It was Friday morning and the store wasn't super busy but there was a steady stream of customers. I've never been fitted for shoes before, so it was kind of an exciting experience having my feet measured and testing the shoes by running up and down the hallway outside. She not only helped me picked out a pair of perfectly fitted shoes, she also informed me about the various running trails/events since I am new to the area. I came here to get a new pair of running shoes. It was well past due, so I came in prepared for a fitting--brought my socks, my old shoes, etc. The staff member was nice--he watched me walk and run, looked at my old shoes, and let me try on a ton of pairs. He was patient and knowledgeable. He also said that I had a neutral gait, which I am a bit skeptical of (considering that every running store I've been to in the past has told me that I'm an overpronator and put me in stability/motion control shoes). This is a franchise--the owner owns this location and the North Raleigh location. One of the reasons that I chose Fleet Feet over other locally owned running shops is that it's a chain--so I figured if they didn't have a pair of shoes I wanted, I could get it at one of the other area locations (Carrboro, Durham, N. Raleigh, etc.). Not so fast--this location only works with the N. Raleigh location because they have the same owners. read more

We were looking for a good place to get good shoe inserts/ orthotics for my daughter who is an overpronator and has low arches. The problem has been causing her some knee and back pain. We had heard great things about this store from other people and after doing a bit of additional research we decided to try it out. As soon as we entered we were courteously greeted and our needs were determined. Liz gave my daughter a free 3D analysis of her feet/ foot posture and spoke to us in detail about what the analysis showed us and what types of things we could consider to help her. There were no high pressure sales tactics at any point. After Liz helped my daughter try out a number of inserts, my daughter selected a pair that she said felt right. They can be swapped out into different shoes. We also asked about a pair of running shoes that wouldn't require inserts (in addition to the inserts for her other shoes) and Liz showed us some that would work well for her feet, but also said she could use the inserts for now and see if she got into running (as she has not started yet and already has a pair of running shoes she could use with the inserts). I was very happy we found this store because I was concerned about my daughters feet and the people in this store were very knowledgeable about her problem and products/ shoes which could help (as we had heard from others). I feel she was well taken care of. I also felt the prices were very fair. read more

The store was nice, and the technology was amazing, but what really made the experience a 10/10 was Ryan, the employee who helped us. The staff at Fleet Feet Sports are wonderful. I went there to be fit for a new pair of running shoes. Jen had me take off my shoes and watched me walk. She taught me about my feet and how I need stability in my shoes. After I learned about my muscles, staying hydrated and that my feet aren't supposed to hurt after a four mile run..... I walked out with new socks, inserts for my poor bones, body glide so my thighs don't rub together from my "eating too many wings over football season". And a new sports bra.
