My experience with Nevada Retina Associates was incredibly frustrating from start to finish. They repeatedly "lost" my referral (even after it was sent multiple times), don't accept emails, and made me wait nearly a full day just to confirm they had it. They also refused to schedule my appointment without insurance info, only to tell me after I arrived that they don't take my insurance. They charged me $500 upfront, then later said the visit was only $130. I was also forgotten in an exam room for 40 minutes, and the front desk had no idea where I was. To make matters worse, my insurance later confirmed this office actually DOES accept my plan, which means my out-of-pocket cost should have only been $50, and they aren't willing to refund me immediately, as they did with the $500. Now have to wait for them to process this mess via the insurance. So no follow-up, no accountability, and now I have to start over with another doctor and pay again. And when I spoke to the billing person, Shannon. She was very rude. I had to remind her that if the shoe were on the other foot, she would feel differently. Completely disorganized and unacceptable for a medical office dealing with serious eye issues. I would strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

As a former patient of this practice, I would very much recommend you finding a different retina doctor and as a patient, this is your right. Though I transitioned to Dr. Friedlander after having difficulties with Dr. Germoyvych, I found the transition to be equally unsettling and the practice overall was not what I was looking for with a retina doctor. He was, in many instances, short, discourteous, rushed, dismissive of concerns, and consistently gave me eye injection in both eyes. I grew tired of having my concerns never addressed, not being able to even ask questions of him, and feeling dismissed as a patient and person. Ultimately, I went to HD Retina Eye Center under the care of Dr. Hardeep Dhindsa, who is a first-rate retina doctor, surgeon and a truly great human being! I can no longer recommend Nevada Retina Associates as I feel that their devotion to patient care and well-being is lacking in many regards and I found I was much happier with Dr. Dhindsa. But to each their own, however. Some may have a different interaction with Dr. Friedlander than I did. No matter what, there is still room for improvement in this practice and the office as well. read more

Several years ago I was referred here for a tear in my retina. It was urgent and they got me in right away. I had Dr. "B" and she was so good and decided it was best to keep an eye on me for several years just to be sure no other tears formed. The surgery for this condition was laser and it was fast and easy. It is funny when the machine stops and you see everything in purple for a few minutes. Everything was explained to me before hand and other testing was performed. Sometimes there was long waits in the waiting room before taken back and I was moved around to other rooms. I went her with no idea what to expect and was relieved when it was done. The laser was easy and the hardest part was getting the follow-ups. Nice location and quiet. A few years ago I was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, and I am 74 years old and very active, so it scared me to death. The doctor that found it said it would blind me, and for the last 5 years I have been terrified! Today, after a referral from another eye doctor, I saw Rob Welch and he took very patient care to check my eyes out thoroughly, and when he told me something that gave me hope for the very first time in a long time, he said I would not go blind it was like a weight had been lifted from me! My Mother was recently mistreated and abused by DR. Elena Geraymovych MD, FACS. The first bad experience was the doctor slamed the head rest in to her head which produced injuries. A big fat eye floater accompanied by white flashing trails appeared in my right eye on Sunday. With no "Iron Butterfly drum solo", it became a big buzzkill for me. Thankfully, my Renown PCP was concerned and through ongoing communication through "MyChart", I was able to obtain a referral to Nevada Retina Associates and an immediate appointment this morning. Located off of Sierra Rose and Kietzke, easy access. Nice, busy office with mostly folks my age as retina challenges happen to those up there in age. Went through the barrage of getting my eyes stained, dilated, photographed. Luckily no retinal tear, but some thinning found. The doctors are very nice, thorough. Got the whole lowdown on what was happening and what to look for. I'll be back for a follow up in a month. Relieved that no eye trauma was found. For now, I'll sit tight and enjoy the floaters and trails. Put on some Grateful Dead and have my own psychedelic show until it resolves on it's own. Peace out! read more

I had a situation involving my optic nerve and eye inflammation and Rob took such attention to detail about my case to gain insight to lead me to a Neurologist upon his referral. I cannot thank this team enough, words don't do it justice. The office is beautiful and the waiting lobby is warm and inviting with plenty of seating. I was first seen by Rob Welch who diagnosed me with major debris in my eyes. My left eye was super bad with floaters that seriously affected my vision. The decision was made to perform a vitrectomy. I just noticed that the review I posted on Google was deleted. Although I'm extremely frustrated, I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised to find businesses like this one eliminating posts. I'm hopeful that review sites such as Yelp remain resistant to being coerced by businesses in removing (truthful) critiques. As far as this center is concerned, I wouldn't recommend it. My mother, who is visually impaired, was rudely interrupted by this center's female ophthalmologist. She rushed through the consultation, failing to provide data and/or images to support her suggestions. This behavior caused my mother to feel insignificant as a disabled individual; her condition did not improve. If a blind person like my mother was generally treated badly, the possibility of "professionals" at this clinic continuing to lack qualities such as humility towards patients is high. read more

Let's just start with this, wait times. Wait times are a thing, they are not fun but sometimes it is something that has to happen so patients can get the care that they are there for. My eye doc referred me over to the retina specialist due to some issues. This office called me the very next day after I saw my doctor and had me in there with in 3 days. I had to change that first appointment due to conflicts in my own schedule and the staff was amazing and great at accommodating me. When I arrived, the staff was about a half hour late calling me back. And I was annoyed but by the end of my visit I totally understood why. Grace got me settled in the room she explained everything she was going to do in the process putting many of my nerves at ease. She handled my dilation and my imaging. After that Rob (nurse practitioner) came in to do some following tests. During this time he explained exactly what was going on that landed me in the office. He also explained that he noticed some other problems in my imaging and these needed to be looked into. They performed further imaging with contrast (right there in the office), and after that I was able to see the Doctor. Sadly the condition that they are seeing is not one that can be treated there. So I am being sent to a different specialist. Pretty much what I am saying is that cases like mine, are why there are long wait times. They take time with each and everyone of their patients and go above and beyond. read more

I was treated in So Cal for the last year at supposedly the best Retina disease care in Beverly Hills. Five offices in So.Cal. I was referred to Nevada Retina Assoc s. by Lasik of Nevada. I could not be any happier that I found Nevada Retina Assoc s! Their office is beautiful, their staff smart, courteous and delightful. Dr. Friedlander and Rob Welch (nurse practitioner) were fantastic. These Doctors, staff and facilities were so much more professional and pleasant than I have ever had before. My rating star could have been more than a 5 since Dr. G has been wonderful, caring, patient and professional in all manner. Initially from the beginning my mother has been seeing her since last year and my mother loves her. I certainly understand doctors have an outside life and need personal time off which is why we (my mother) don't get picky when we need to see another doctor because the primary doctor is out. However, today, 04/19/2023 was scheduled for her routine eye injection appointment but of course we were given the option to wait till Dr. G return or see Dr. Friedlander. Which again we don't mind. We come to the appointment and the assistants are always great to us, but when Dr. Friedlander walks in he starts questioning us of why my mom is continually being treated for eye injections, which I would believe it's noted on the chart but "ok" I'll explain. He gives this weird smile and says if he was my mothers Dr. he would have stopped the injections a while back because their not making any changes but since she wasn't his patient he was going to still give her the shot and have her return in 3 months and see if anything changes. He also questioned about my mom's post op appointments with Dr. Gammet for her left eye surgery she had done last year July which again explained to him she was no longer told to return, her last post op was in Jan 2023 and everything looked great. Again with that weird looking smile. Personally me and my mother felt like he was doubting Dr. G recommendation. I'm currently in the medical field myself and have worked with many doctors and of course every Dr. will have their own medical opinion. I would doubt that Dr. G is not looking out for the best decision for my mother's care. Nor that she would just want my mother to be put in pain or any discomfort just because! I'm really looking forward to my mothers next appointment but obviously requested for her to see her original Dr. and ask Dr.G what she thinks of her colleague opinion. I see patients all the time and would always say great things about Nevada Retina Associates but now if one of our patients where to go to this clinic and have to be treated with Dr. Friedlander and be treated unwelcome or not given the best patient care I would be so ashamed for referring. But other then this experience I would always speak and say positive wording of Dr. G she's awesome and that's why now we would only stick with her and keep our appointments only with her even if we have to wait for her return! read more

I just had my second visit with this group. My first visit was in their Carson City office, my second was in their Reno office. I am very happy with the care I received from Rob & Dr. Friedlander. I was given very through exams at both offices and would highly recommend either location. I would also like to mention the professional and pleasant manner of their entire staff. Re wait times, mine were more than reasonable and I have no complaints. Please bear in mind that retina specialists treat serious eye conditions and emergencies. This can take time, so if you do experience a wait, please know that you will receive the same through care that the people ahead of you did. Relax and know that you're in good hands. I saw the negative reviews on wait times and wondered if these people went to the same retina specialist I did. In my case, my cataract surgeon wanted to make sure my retinas were okay before working on my eyes. Honest. He sent the referral to them on Tuesday afternoon. They called me immediately and I was in two days later. No. Not a typo. Two days. The staff treated me great. The ophthalmologist was very professional and showed me exactly what she was looking at. The wait time was miniscule. I was out in about an hour. They had a letter clearing my eyes for surgery a day later. I hope I never need their services but if I do, I won't hesitate about going back there. read more

My 80-year-old father always jokes that he needs to bring a salami sandwich when we go to Nevada Retina, as he waits all day. Today was no exception. It's been 2 years since my dad's last appt with NV Retina, and now I remember why we skipped a year -- after waiting hours we saw the doc for about 5 min, got handed around to others for dialation, etc., and the doc was severely lacking in bed-side manner. Today, we drove 40 minutes from Gardnerville to be to his 10:10 appointment on time, and then we waited ... and waited ... and waited. After 40 minutes, I asked the front desk how much longer we'd have to wait? I was greeted with an attitude of annoyance that I would ask, and that I should know better as their standard wait times can be as much as 2 hrs from your scheduled appointment time -- then your appt itself is another 2 hours. We were told they often book emergency same-day appts which take precedence. Not sure what constitutes a "retina emergency", but I guess they must get a lot of them, as it's always a long wait. Either that, or they just plain overbook and don't care how it effects their patients' schedules. I find this totally unacceptable. Their patients' time is just as valuable as theirs. Ten minutes later I was told it would another 30 minutes before we'd be brought into a room, and then it would be at least 2 hrs before we'd be done with the appt. After 75 minutes of waiting past our scheduled appt time, my father had a bathroom accident and we had to leave. Truth is we would've left soon anyway -- my dad has little patience for waiting that long. He finds it very disrespectful to make us wait that long past our scheduled time for 5 minutes with the doctor. I feel the same. They rescheduled us to see different doctor in 2 weeks. This doc, they say, sees his patients more quickly than the doc we were schedule with today. Right now, I'm researching if there are any alternatives to Nevada Retina in the Reno/Carson area. We really don't ever want to return to this company. Nevada Retina is in desperate need of a better business model. And, I repeat, Nevada Retina needs to realize their patients' time is just as valuable as theirs. read more

If you've been to an ophthalmologist you know you have time to wait, plus after being dilated. This being one of the many ophthalmologist I've been too it is one of the fastest. The technology is a little behind but the doctors are very smart and fast. I've had great appointments with rob and Dr G. The other men are bit slow with bedside manner but still get the job done. The ladies up front are amazing and do what they can, especially Julia, always nice to see her. So far I've had Dr G go above and beyond to help me with my eyes, she is the only doctor I feel that has taken the steps in the right direction with extra care and referrals. read more

They do not keep their appointments. I had mine canceled two hours before it was supposed to happen because the guy I was to see did not want stay at work after 1 pm that day. Never mind that fact that I had to wait three weeks for the appointment, and it is another three weeks before I get the honor and privilege of being allowed in their practice once again. Go to the other retina place in town and hope these losers go out of business. Oh yea, one more thing. They ha e two offices, one in Reno and one in Carson city, each of which they seem to staff half time. They clearly think that when their patients wait for them, then that is a good thing. 1 year later now...my appointment was for 10 am today and it is now 11:15. I am still waiting in the lobby. These guys are jerks. I am stuck with them because of my insurance. Do not let that happen to you. read more

But I was told after one full hour AFTER my appointment time that's just the way it is. Simply unacceptable. My time is valuable. I am told I can just wait and waste my afternoon till they get to me. I left. I have never had to wait 60-90 minutes past my appointment time to then be moved to the back in another area and wait another hour. 3 appointments and they all went this way. Horrendous wait times. Their scheduling needs to be reevaluated and FIXED. We've been waiting now for 2 hours and still waiting. Eyes dilated and need to be re-dilated. Overheard that the doctor wasn't even in office, so why do they have you come in just to wait. Then one other patients complained, and their response was expect waits of 2-3 hours blah, blah, blah, is just plain UNACCEPTABLE. Our time is just as valuable as the docs. When we finally asked how much longer it will be? excuse was a room wasn't available and just waiting for one. Can we say poor business management. I hope we never have to come back!!!! read more

My mother has been going to Nevada Retina for several years for Macular Degeneration. Both Dr. Neilson and Dr. Freidlander have the compassion of a rock. They are both cold and rude to their patients. Everyone on staff is totally miserable and over worked. Luckily Dr Denza left the practice and we are able to have him as her doctor again. I cannot believe that Dr. Carl Nielsen, retinal specialist and co-owner of Nevada Retina Associates, is the same physician whose blog boasts of numerous academic accolades and vast experience in his fiekd. I have wet AMD in my right eye and had received injections in Oceanside, CA, where I live half of the yea. All my records were sent to the office of Nevada Retina weeks before my visit to Dr. Nielsen. I checked several times by phone with the office to make sure my records had been received. I must have an inection once a month to maintain the improvement that has occured in my eye since beginning injection therapy. The retinal specialist in Southern California where I had the original treatment, is kind, gentle wnen injecting my eye, and very much a caring, accommodating medical professional. Perhaps, I expected too muh of the same ttreatment by Dr. Nielsen. He entered the room in which I was sitting with a wide yawn and barely looking at me aksed why I was there. I had to ask his very competent and pleasantl assistant, Yvette, to locate the information. Still not convinced that I knew why I needed the injection, he proceeded to shine a very strong light in my eyes to confir for hismself why i needed an injection. Never mind that I had undergone a series of computerized examinations in his office before seeing him. Had he even looked at then? He never indicated what he was doing or why. His attitude was one of indifference, boredom and condescension. He proceeded to finally administer the injection in a gruff, rude manner. He grabbed my head, and jabbed the needle in my eye. Upon leaving the office, I noticed I had an air bubble in the corner of the injected eye. This can be avoided if the psyician carefully checks the needle for air before administering the injecions, which Dr. Nielsen did not do. Also, I noticed a terribly annoying floater smack in the jiddle of my right eye. It is so annoying that I will have to seek laser treatment to remove this annoyance!! Never had such problems with the California specialist. I am sooooo sorry I went to Dr.. Nielsen. His arrogance, and unpleaanty attitude are so horrendous that I will be flying once a month to California to have the injection administered by the doctor who is not only competent and compassionate, but, also, a phyician whose office is always filled with patients. Also, Dr. Nielsen wanted to give me a visual test I had had in December in the Californai retinal office. Ethical or mercenary??? You pick your choice!!!!! I would WARN ANYONE WHO IS THINKING OF BECOMING A PATIENT OF THIS HORRIBLE DOCTOR TO THINK TWICE, AND TRY TO FIND A RETINAL SPECIALIST WHO KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING AND TREATS HIS PATIENTS WITH RESPECT. DR. NIELSEN, MY ADVICE TO YOU IS TO GO BACK TO MEDICAL SCHOOL AND LEARN HOW TO BE A HUMAN BEINGWHO TREATS HIS PATIENTS WITH RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING. Nevada Retina Associates operates their office approximately 3 hours behind schedule on a daily basis and they don't even bother to offer an apology. Do NOT make any other plans if you are going to Nevada Retina Associates. You will need half a day to get in and get out of there. Nevada Retina Associates do not respect or value your time as an individual. Nevada Retina Associates acts as if they are doing you a favor by seeing you as a patient. Nevada Retina Associates has completely lost sight of who is the customer! Doctors at Nevada Retina Associates are clearly OVERBOOKED and OVERWORKED. The doctors are BURNT OUT and it shows! The doctors lack any type of Doctor/Patient communication skills!. Nevada Retina Associates has the WORST communication of ANY type office or business I have been to as a patient, client or customer. The office staff is friendly, but overall indifferent and could care less about the you as a patient. I have seen patients asleep in exam rooms because they have been sitting there for hours waiting to see the doctor. I have seen elderly patients begging to know when the doctor will finally see them after hours of waiting. I can't quite figure out if Nevada Retina overbooks so heavily as a result of greed, indifference or arrogance! Either way, you pay the price as a patient. I suggest you bring a LONG book when you go to see Nevada Retina because you will need it! It's not just me! I went to Nevada Retina for a possible macular degeneration test and found the office to non patient friendly. I was there for nearly four hours being bounced between rooms, had this exam done, had that exam done and still today my eyes are screwed up due to the exam I had that includes the sodium IV. Just horrible service, no answers and just over all dissatisfied. I will be informing my primary optometrist that this office is full of quacks.
