Wow, this place is a literal cluster-f@ck. My wife had an appointment at 8 am (the time they open). We watched them open the doors. She walked in and checked in. 47 minutes later, still sitting in the waiting room along with half of Reno. This place looks like Grand Central Station without the charm. Are we waiting for them to finish patients from the previous day?!? Either the care providers are MIA, screwing around in the back, or the staff doesn't know how to get the day started. This is about as professional as a 6 year-old's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. read more

After receiving a referral to an eye retina specialist I first tried another doctor but having difficulty getting an appointment or callback in a timely manner I had my eye doctor send my referral to HD retina as an acquaintance said they were good. I was able to make an appointment quickly and within a week of my call. My appointment date came without a problem and I knew to expect an hour or more for complete dilation and tests so made sure to get a ride to my appointment. I received a couple texts to remind me of my appointment and also to let me know they looked forward to my visit. :) My check in was quick and friendly and paperwork took me about 15 minutes then I waited another 15 minutes then was taken back by Alexis the PA. She was very nice and explained everything as we went through my history, short eye exam, dilation and then took eye pictures. We chatted as it was easy to talk to her then I waited for Dr Fuller to come in. It was another half hour wait but once Dr Fuller came in it was a quick intro and eye check then he went over my condition and I was shown pictures of my eye and told the procedure to fix it. It was all explained thoroughly and I was given pamphlets so I could completely understand everything. Now to schedule my procedure which should be in the next month! Tried to see the doctor today. My wife had an appointment to see the specialist. And filled out the paperwork and delivered it before the day of the appointment. Received three messages reminding her to be there 15 minutes before appointment time. 30 minutes after the appointment time still in the waiting room asked the receptionist for a status was told they were getting the room prepped. 15 minutes later still not called in. I wanted to leave a review for HDRetina Eye Center; specifically, Dr. Spencer Fuller and his AMAZING support staff that got me into the office the same day I called them as I was concerned about a possible Retinal Tear/ Detachment in my right eye. I had a prior vision exam by DeMers Vision Center (Dr. Macintyre), and they referred me to HDRetina to be examined for the possible retinal tear/ detachment. Dr. Fuller performed the examination of my eyes, and determined that I did in fact have a tear/ detachment, and immediatelÿ he decided to perform laser surgery on my right eye. Getting me into the office that day, not being an established patient, and examining my eyes and performing the laser surgery probably saved the vision in my eye. THANK YOU!!! read more

The wait time on your first initial visit is very long, but gets better over time. The pre-testing, dilation, eye charts and photos all take a great deal of time. Once you are seated in an exam room, you wait to see Dr. Dhindsa as well. He is worth your time and wait for he is an extremely caring man, very kind, salt of the earth and is compassionate and respectful of your time and eye issues. He has very good bedside manner and a reassuring presence that has a patient place a lot of trust in Dr. Dhindsa's care and knowledge. I am so glad that I left Nevada Retina Associates to come here to see Dr. Dhindsa, he is great and the rest of his staff is very caring as well. Dr. Dhindsa and his staff are the best period. They care, they listen, and they give you 100% excellent care. If you want the best for your eyes, he's the doctor you want to take care of you. His staff are friendly caring people as well. As far as the negative posts, they are sour grapes, and I don't believe them, I doubt anything would make them happy. I've been going to Dr. Dhindsa for several years and know several others that have been going to him for sometime no one has had any complaints. Great doctor, lots of med students getting training. Not necessarily eye med students, that's ok, they can do basic prep before seeing dr. You go there for Dr. Dhindsa. That is where you get proper care. He is busy and office always full. I always plan on two hour visit, lots of waiting. I don't mind the wait as long as eyes are being treated properly. read more

I had an appointment scheduled since a few weeks ago. When I scheduled my appointment, I made them aware of the insurance I had and they said that accepted my insurance. The morning of my appointment they refused to see me and said that they could not take my insurance because they weren't sure they could bill my secondary insurance and they didn't want to lose the 20% my insurance didn't cover. I definitely do not recommend this clinic as they are more concerned about money than patient care. read more

I am writing this review for my 90 YO mother who has been a patient of Dr. Dhindsa's for about 5 years. I have attended 90% of her office visits with her. Dr Dhindsa's care has been exceptional. Exceptional in quality of care, knowledge of physician and staff, consistency of care, compassion for her/our concerns, flexibility in emergencies, knowledge of medications, seamless billing and prior authorization services. Even the waiting room is consistently clean and well managed! ...and I can't forget to mention that my mother's 94 YO sister has TRANSFERRED TO "HD Retina Eye Center" after a horrible incident with another retina specialist in town. My mother lost sight in her left eye about 15 years ago and we are very protective of the remaining sight in her right eye. She has a diagnosis of ocular occlusion (internal bleeding) in her good eye. We are grateful and blessed to have this care available to us. read more

Staff and doctors are exceptional. My only complaint is it is extremely difficult to talk to a human if you call in for any reason. You have to leave a message and get a call back within 24-48 hours. They do have an emergency number that shouldn't be called if it isn't an real emergency read more

The employees were attentive and friendly. Dr. Dhindsa was through with the exam and explained all about the procedure needing to be done, but seemed put off when asked how often he has performed my particular surgery. As if I shouldn't ask, then I started to inquire about the cost of this procedure because I'm on Medicare...suddenly he seemed to be in a hurry to his next appt. when I tried to ask him another question... his reply was "I need to get to my next appt. otherwise I will get a bad Yelp review." What the heck?? He left me with the tech to follow up with the answers of how much it would cost. 20 mins. later the office lady came in to inform me that "Dr.Dhindsa has decided that he's not comfortable doing my surgery." Was it because I asked how often he's done this surgery, or because I wanted to know up front what the cost would be???? His arrogance overshadows what his skills could be and, in this case, I dodged the bullet on having him work on my eyes. Thank you Dr. Dhindsa for being so egotistical and self-absorbed. I can't begin to tell everyone how extremely impressed I am by HD retina. Dr. Dhindsa is by far the best doctor I've ever had the privilege to meet. I highly recommended HD Retina to everyone. All the employees are extremely nice and helpful. They all seem to be happy and love their jobs. Once I met Dr. Dhindsa I knew exactly why they were all so happy. He's a CLASS ACT and so full of information. Dr. Dhindsa saved my vision and I'm extremely grateful for him. He walked me through one of the scariest times in my life. He made me feel as if I had nothing to worry about and that he would have no problem fixing my vision. My 90 year old father was referred by his eye doctor to this group. They refused to allow me to accompany him on the appointment, despite his age and being very hard of hearing. They gave him reams of paperwork to fill out by himself and when I went to check on him after an hour and a half they said he was still waiting to see the doctor and that his new patient appointment was scheduled for 3 hours! When I told her that was information we should have had beforehand she replied, " well we try to tell people but sometimes it gets overlooked "....At this.point I have no idea if these guys are competent or not but right now I am totally underwhelmed! My partner and I recently came to Dr. Dhindsa for a second opinion. Not only did he take the time to meet with us for an emergency appointment but noticed an issue with my partners eye that two other specialists had missed. His diagnosis led to a possible treatment that may save her vision! As a few fellow Yelpers pointed out, appointments take a long time. A few hours in my experience. However, it is clear that this is because Dr. D and his staff do things carefully and thoroughly- something that is critical when it comes to important vision issues. After visiting every specialist in town we won't go anywhere else! I suggest taking something to pass the time when you visit his office, but know that it will be well worth it. Also, I learned that Dr. has traveled the world providing free vision treatment to people in need. His office is full of eclectic art, much seems to be for the places he has done out reach work! I have been here 3 times so far with my mother. I am NOT a patient here. The only nice thing about this doctors office are the receptionists. They are welcoming and friendly. The wait time here is INSANE. Each visit has been an hour wait. One visit we were here for about 4 hours. That is NOT ok. They have made us feel rushed every time we have been here, which is funny because they were soooo slow at everything they were doing. I understand they're a specialty doctors office but they should figure something out in reference to managing peoples wait times. My mom had to use the bathroom before her visit and they told her to run.. which bothered me because you shouldn't be talking to any patient like that. And then of course when she got back we ended up waiting 15-20 minutes anyways. The nurse assistants/other staff are snooty, seem like they aren't happy to be there and they never seem to be on the same page with each other or the doctors. Anyways, I personally wouldn't recommend this doctors office to any of my friends or family. read more

Dr. Dhindsa is a breath of fresh air! HD Retina is hands-down the better choice than Nevada Retina! First off, if you go to any Retina specialist in Northern Nevada, be prepared for a long wait - that's just the nature of the beast. That said, we were in and out of HD Retina for a new patient appointment before we were even called up from the waiting room during a recent "attempt" for an appt at Nevada Retina. Arrived at HD Retina at 8:35am for an 8:45am appt. At 9:35am we were brought in to an exam room for the first part of the process, then moved through 2 other parts of the process before seeing Dr. Dhindsa at 10:50am. We were out the door by 11:00am -- 2 1/4 hrs from our scheduled appt time. While 10 minutes with the doc might not seem like much, Dr. Dhindsa made the most of this time. He gave my 80-yr-old father a hands-on examination, was very informative, personable, answered all our questions, and gave my father the time and attention that we never felt like he got from any of the docs at Nevada Retina (who, incidentally, didn't have a fraction of the bedside-manner that Dr. Dhindsa has.) Also, Dr. Dhindsa explained that the kind of "macular pucker" my dad has is nothing to worry about, rarely changes, and barring any major changes to his eye sight (which records of the last 5+ years saw no change), Dr. Dhindsa didn't see a need for my dad to continue with a Retina specialist, his regular eye doc could follow up. ... previously we had to sit through many years of LONG waits with Nevada Retina, to only get 2 minutes with the actual doc (who gave no hands-on examination), and would abruptly say "no change; see you next year" Keep in mind, we were one of the first appts of the day at HD Retina; I understand they can get backed up as well if you have a later appt, but even if that had been the case, I found HD Retina to have a much larger and more attentive/friendlier staff, and a brighter and cheerier waiting area, which seemed to make the wait time go by more quickly. Bottom line tips: (1) With any Retina specialist in Northern Nevada you will have a long wait. Know that going in. (2) Try to book the 1st appt of the day for the least wait, if you can (3) Bring something to keep you occupied and perhaps some snacks (4) Pick HD Retina over Nevada Retina, as Dr. Dhindsa is more worth the wait read more

My husband had an emergency eye problem...detached retina . I accompanied him to the HD Retina Center where he was treated with utmost professionalism by the staff and Dr. Dhindsa . If you want a scary situation, it is a detaching Retina and where one can't see out of one eye. It was a relief to be welcomed to the Retina center where everyone was doing an outstanding job of comforting a patient and the doctor was warm , caring and professional. He was upfront with the diagnosis and the possibilities of the outcome. There were many people in there for various eye difficulties and all praised Dr. Dhindsa and all praised what Dr. Dhindsa had done for them. I researched Dr. Dhindsa and found out that he travels the world treating blindness. Kudos to this doctor who helps others to see! read more

I wonder at how this office has 4/5 stars. I suspect the level of care from the doctor may have something to do with it, but I did not get that far. I had an 8:15 appointment and arrived at 7:55 to get the new patient paperwork taken care off and the insurance information figured out. I didn't think that this was going to be a problem since the office contacted me a few days before to get my insurance information beforehand. I completed the paperwork before 8:15 and gave the receptionist my insurance card/drivers license. This is where the trouble started. There were about 5 other patients in the "waiting area" (quotations on purpose--read on the find out why) and the receptionist was responsible for checking each person in, entering all of the new patient info into their system, and taking a photo of each person before they could be seen. Unfortunately, this created a bottleneck at the check-in desk as it appeared that they schedule multiple people for the same time (and with one doctor, this is obviously a problem). My paperwork was finally entered at about 8:30 (15 minutes after my scheduled appointment was to begin) then I was informed that there was a problem with my insurance, which would have been understandable, however I gave them all of the information a few days prior. They ended up calling my insurance company and got everything figured out, but this what not until 8:45. At this point, I was growing irritated and asked how much longer it would be until I saw the doctor. The receptionist told me that my appointment was "right on time" and I told her (in all honestly, curtly) that my appointment was at 8:15. Apparently, the receptionist took exception to this and told her manager. I was finally called, but only to be taken to a second waiting area. I was not even in the actual waiting area at the beginning! My frustration was mounting as I noticed about 5 other patients already seated in the second area. It was now about 8:55 and was approached by two women who asked to talk to me. The manager (Eva, Ena?) sat me down, as if being called into the principal's office, and told me that the receptionist complained about me. She then said it was not their fault for the delay since it was an issue with my insurance. Huh? In a very condescending tone, she told me that I was being rude to the staff. At this point, I reminded them that I had provided my insurance information days earlier. They didn't care, but made it seem as though it was my fault. I was floored. I immediately asked for my co-pay to be refunded and left. A couple of issues with this place: the check-in process is so clumsy that the insurance issue was not discovered until well after my appointment time. To make matters worse, I showed up 20 minutes early, so this could have fixed beforehand. They also over-schedule causing unnecessary delays. Lastly, the attitude of the staff is certainly not pro-customer, which is absolutely crazy given the number of ophthalmologists in the area. I am going to see another doctor soon. My recommendation is to stay aware from this place unless you have a couple of hours to kill or have nothing better to do with your day. read more

My husband went to our local optometrist for reading glasses. Upon the exam, it was discovered that he had a weak vein which was leaking blood. The blood was pooling in the back of the retina. The doctor immediately called Dr.Hardeep in Reno for emergency resolutions. When we arrived the next morning, we were treated with the utmost of courtesy and good 'ole manners. We had no down time, the staff all worked as a team in sync and the doctor was the most kind and patient person I have met in quite some time. He explained everything from what the cause was to how he was treating it and used plain language. He is, also, part of the Flying Doctors and has been all over helping people, especially children with different eye problems. A true Humanitarian. I cannot compliment this doctor and staff enough. And the waiting area was spacious and very comfortable. read more

I had my parents in for the holidays and my mother had an issue with one of her eyes that she needed taken care of right away (no point going into the details). Dr. Dhindsa's staff made time in his schedule to see her that same day, he took care of the issue and my mother (who has way too much experience with retina specialists across multiple countries for one person) thought Dr. Dhindsa was easily among the best she's seen anywhere. Dr. Dhindsa and his staff have again shown just how awesome they are. I'm sure there are other retina specialists in Reno. However, I feel no need to even find out who they are, let alone actually go to them. read more

Writing this on behalf of my mother. I would love to give a good review about this company as the doctor is wonderful, but I can't because of the staff. First off there is only one problem that I have with this business and that is the fact that one of their girls smelled like "weed" when my mother was seen. I admit she said nothing while she was there but I did call a few days later and informed their manager. She wanted my mother's information which I refused because she does not wish to get bad treatment if she returns. I did however give the girls name and was told that nothing could be done about their employees being on drugs without giving my personal information. I never imagined that would be accepted in the medical profession. Very disappointed that they won't even speak to her about her bad conduct and that she will continue to possibly jeopardize other peoples care. read more

Dr. Dhindsa is a very kind person and skilled surgeon. He performed eye surgery on both of my eyes and am now seeing 20/20. He saved my vision. I was impressed with the efficiency and compassion of his staff. Dr. Dhindsa provides humanitarian care all across the world and has a great heart. I am lucky to have him as a doctor. Yes, the waiting times can be long, but I believe Dr. Dhindsa is in high demand, as he's the best retinologist around!
