I'd still rate this as a can't miss, because it's so lovely to sit on that deck with a drink and the ocean and town below, but you can find better food elsewhere in the area. The music is loud, which annoyed me at first when I would have preferred a more relaxing experience but I grew to enjoy the lively atmosphere. Hate to do it, but I guess I have to be the first to give this place one star. We came to Cinque Terre for our honeymoon, and were attracted by the stellar reviews and view at Nessun Dorma. Turns out you can be seated faster if you sit on the non-cliff side -- still get a decent view, but be warned that some spots on the left have no umbrella and get quite hot during the day, so I'd suggest asking about shade or bring a hat! All the same no problem, we had our sunblock. We decided to split the meat and cheese board. Although the cheese was quite tasty with varying levels of sharpness, the meat didn't taste quite right (almost like it had been pre-sliced and was sitting in the sun for quite a while). My drink, some sort of Lemon Spritz, was extremely sweet to the point where I couldn't drink it. The mixed fruit salad was actually quite good and refreshing. Service was okay but honestly we didn't expect much at a place like this -- if the experience is otherwise good, we don't really care too much about service. I understand that it's all about the view, and they're trying to move people in and out quickly. The real clincher was that we both came down with severe food poisoning the next day. I always hesitate to blame one restaurant for food poisoning because I know it can come from many places and timing is hard to calculate... BUT this was the only meal we split all day and the following morning, and we both got very sick (including severe stomach cramps for our train ride back to Florence, which was pretty miserable). So, here is my plea to the folks at Nessun Dorma: I understand you get a lot of tourism, and maybe the food quality has dipped a bit in reaction to that. But do not let food freshness or sanitation start to slack. That's all. Ciao! read more

The café is fully of tourists, but it's a great place to relax & stare at the beautiful scenery! In the summer, it'll get hot since there's not much shade. My husband and I were in Cinque Terre during our honeymoon in Italy. After hiking from Monterosso to Vernazza early in the morning, we took a ferry to Manarola as we had heard that Nessun Dorma was a beautiful place to have lunch. We got there WAY early (10:30) and their pesto making class was just beginning. Lucky for us, there was room for us to join! The views from this place are jaw dropping! During the class we were provided the highest quality ingredients- basil so fresh the roots were attached, abundant pine nuts, flavorful garlic, aged pecorino and Parmesan cheese, and delicious olive oil. With pestle and mortar, we went to work under Simone's watchful eye and instruction. Our results were delicious, and we were also treated to a beautiful charcuterie board and Cinque Terre white wine, all included in our $50 class fee. We even got to take home our aprons as a keepsake! This was one of my favorite days of our two week vacation. While I'd highly recommend visiting Nessun Dorma at any time for the beautiful views and fabulous wine and food, I'd encourage people to take this class as it was super fun, reasonably priced, included a ton, and ensured our seat instead of waiting in line like other diners. read more

We ate here because it was one of the last places open, and it did have a great view of Manarola. I didn't really like where we were seated though. We weren't right next to the fence, and I was right in front of the music speaker. The music was hip hop and not very romantic. The waiter was a little "off" too, but he did get our order correct. The food was ok, but not as great as all of the reviews were. It was just ok. We had to eat fast and catch the last train out. Perhaps we just had a bad experience. The view was beautiful. This place was absolutely amazing. This is your spot if you love wine, meats, cheeses and bruschetta. It is all fresh food with an amazing view. It is reasonably priced as well. This town is by far my favorite and has the best food/restaurants out of all 5 villages. Superb views and great food make this a wonderful spot to immerse yourself in the Italian culture ! The walk up is not too bad with plenty of photo opportunities. What a magical place and so glad to have finally made it here. Grab an appetizer if you want to call it that as the portions are large and we called it our dinner. The service was terrific and we only had to wait a few minutes for our table for two. We came here first and what a great start to our first night in Cinque Terre. From here, the next morning we hit the breakfast/lunch cafe just across from the train tunnel in Manarola and that was our breakfast go to place for the next few days. By far the best lunch we had on the entire trip. Make sure to come hungry because the portions are HUGE! My friends and I came for lunch after bookmarking this place on Yelp for the breathtaking views, but it is so much more than the pretty view. For those of you who don't know, Cinque Terre is where pesto was founded so be sure to get the bruschetta with tomatoes, mozzarella and pesto. Among 4 girls, one order is more than enough since they give you 6 large pieces. We also shared the meat platter which takes up the entire table and is enough for lunch. Stopped in for a post hike drink and snack while we waited for the last boat back to Monterosso (it leaves at 5:50). The view is awesome. On top of hat they have good drinks and snacks. The classic bruschetta came with fresh tomatoes and what we both agreed was awesome bread. With our second round of drinks they served a complimentary pesto bruschetta which was also as delightful as the tomato. They have a lot of two too tables you can relax at while taking in the ocean and Manarola. The service was prompt and you pay at the window as you leave. First off, the view! Spectacular! It is so mesmerizing, you won't want to leave! But, this is not an "all looks, no substance" kind of place. We had a platter of meats and cheeses which were excellent quality cuts. As for the rest, anything that includes their basil pesto is sure to be a winner! We had a few focacces and all were terrific! Wow, this place was everything I had hoped it would be- we signed up for the Pesto class months in advance, and it was the highlight of our 3 week trip to Europe! Simone is an amazing teacher and shared so many tips- plus you are there before the restaurant even opens- so no waiting in the insane line to get a table- after the class you are served a complementary lunch tray of cheeses, meats and bread, along with a carafe of their house white wine. A line started forming outside the restaurant around 11 am and by noon when they opened, it was down the whole hill. Everything was delicious and we got to eat our pesto with lunch- we were not rushed out after the class, but were invited to stay as long as we wanted to enjoy our wine and snacks. Views are amazing ! However it's directly in the sun and not all umbrellas cover the tables. But if you wanna sit and people watch people jump off the rocks and enjoy the views then you won't mind sitting in the heat. I sure didn't ! I only had the bruschetta and a cocktail. We had friends recommend coming to Nessun Dorma during our visit to Cinque Terre and when I stumbled on their website I found they did a pesto class- how amazing! I could not have imagined a more breathtaking experience! The view alone was magnificent but then having the owner teach us how to make pesto from scratch was truly phenomenal! It was one of our most memorable experiences during our two week trip all over Italy! We finished the class with local wine with our new friends made during the class- by the time we were leaving there was a line almost down the mountain to get in and have lunch. I wouldn't dream of missing the pesto class if you have a chance! Make sure to bring cash to pay .
