    Mussels

The best caprese salad I've had in Italy so far, and the mussels were so fresh and prepared very well! We also ordered the house white wine which was delicious, and made in corniglia which is hard to come by. It was a very special bottle, and had the owners face on it! Felt more personal.

Given that this was our very first meal upon arrival in Corniglia, is it really any surprise that we over-ordered... excessively? The two dishes we intended to be our mains ended up being our starters (some absurdly massive mixture of green beans, olives, octopus, and capers; and an enormous bowl of pesto pasta). Which left the one dish we'd ordered, thinking it would be an appetizer, a misto di mare, showing up late to the game and finishing us. I mean... just look at that monstrosity: http://bit.ly/oVnJyq - now imagine eating a full meal before starting to dig into that thing. Hellloooo, distended bellies! As far as the restaurant experience goes, you're unlikely to leave hungry, that's for damn sure. As per most typical dining establishments I encountered on our journey, the service is... unhurried, let's call it. Which was fine for us, being on holiday and all. As a country, Italy will teach you to slow down and smell the roses. Or smell your neighbour's food, at least. Visiting Cinque Terre just shy of peak season and actually renting a flat in Corniglia meant not having a problem scoring a seat at il Pirun, however I could see this place getting rammed later on into the summer, as there are only ten tables, perhaps. In addition to offering a cosy dining establishment on the first floor, the ground level serves as lovely enoteca, where we were quick to purchase a bottle of a Sciachetrà to take away. It's apparently a renowned locally produced wine. Again, I've never considered myself much of a wino, but it was quite lovely for sipping on its own, and quite syrupy sweet, not unlike a port. If you're bedding in Corniglia, your dining options aren't that abundant, and this was one of the better restaurants we encountered in Cinque Terre. Definitely take advantage of this local gem - if for no other reason than to sample some of the fine vintage of the land. And hey, if you're in for a beer and a belly full of pasta and fish (and come on, what's the point of coming to Italy if not for pasta and fish), il Pirun will do just fine for that, as well.

There aren't many places to have dinner in Corniglia, so luckily Il Pirun has pretty good food. It can get a bit pricey, though, depending on what you get and how much you eat. My wife and I ordered the frutti di mare - a seafood platter appetizer that was LOADED with really good seafood - anchovies, shrimp, and smoked fish. This is what made our meal worth it. We also ordered the Tagliolini with pesto and tomato sauce. The pasta was well-made and I really enjoyed the pesto. Corniglia is a small town where not everyone speaks English, so be prepared to do a little self-translating if you encounter one of the waiters who may not speak great English.

Beautiful restaurant and delicious food-- but the terrible management forces me to warn you to avoid at all costs!!!!

The food was delicious, and it was reasonably priced. So why only two stars?!? Because they wouldn't make us change (They didn't "have any"), yet they would not take credit card. That means that we paid an extra 8€ish -- which is almost $10!!!! You might ask why we didn't just order something else. They make you pay downstairs, so we had already given up our table. TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. I suppose since they serve tourists, they can take advantage of all customers -- revolving door. On another note, based on our experience, I would skip Corniglia all together. Nothing special there. We wanted to do all five towns to say that we had hit each one-- you are better off enjoying your time at one of the other towns.

Absolutely Delicious! Very authentic Italian food at great prices! Get the Trofie Al Pesto!

I can't imagine why this place is less than 4 to 5 stars. The food was so high quality and flavorful. They offered things that were not on every single Cinque Terrre menu. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Corniglia

Right off the bat, a lil bit of a weird vibe from the hostess and the waiter that gave us nonstop stares as we sat down and then proceeded to bring us stale bread in a paper bag. At first I thought it was just a few stares because we're American and that's maybe understandable, but every time I would look over in their direction I was met with intense eye contact and it made us all feel very uncomfortable and almost unwelcome. The inside ambiance was also a little sterile but whatever, it was also colder out so their outside area was closed so that was a bummer but understandable. We ordered the Trofie Al Pesto and the Lasgana, as well as the grilled mixed seafood. The pesto came with prepackaged Parmesan (felt a lil weird for a restaurant in Italy) and was a lil too sauce heavy. The lasagna on the other hand was outstanding, probably the only win of the night. Grilled seafood was okay too but nothing special. Overall just a weird and off vibe from the service, nothing friendly or outstanding like the reviews said. Definitely will not be returning and left us with a bad taste in our mouth once we left.

We came in not knowing what to expect--whether it would feel overly touristy or genuinely authentic--but it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome, especially traveling with our young daughter. The class itself was both fun and informative. The owner took the time to explain the history and importance of each fresh ingredient, which made the experience feel meaningful rather than just a cooking demo. What really set this apart was the atmosphere. It was interactive, relaxed, and genuinely joyful--we even found ourselves dancing with our daughter by the end. Enjoying freshly made pesto and burrata while overlooking one of the most stunning views in Cinque Terre made it unforgettable. A special thank you to Michael, who went above and beyond--answering all our questions and sharing great local recommendations, especially for swimming spots. If you're visiting Manarola, this is an absolute must-do experience.

The view alone is insane -- straight-up postcard-level Manarola cliffs and pastel houses glowing in the sun. And then there's the owner, whose energy could power half of Cinque Terre. He literally won this failing spot in a contest and turned it into a full-on experience. Locals may not love that he's a southerner who made it big, but honestly? He's built something incredible. The pesto class is a highlight. You learn exactly where every ingredient comes from, and you realize how tiny an amount of that super-strong garlic you actually need. And smashing basil by hand in a mortar and pestle? Way better than a blender -- you can taste the difference. After class, you're absolutely not leaving hungry. They load you up with wine and a charcuterie board that's basically a meal. And yes -- at some point, you will dance. It's just that kind of place. And the sign you pass on the way in? "Today is a good day to be happy." At Nessun Dorma, it really is.

This a great place to do a little wine tasting and to pick up some wine from the Cinque Terre region. One of the wines we sampled and immediately purchased was the Sciacchetra, a dry dessert wine produced only in the Cinque Terre. I'm not usually a fan of dessert wine, but I enjoyed the Sciacchetra. This wine is not exported out of the area due to the limited production quantity, so you should buy it if you are in the area. Vineria Santa Maria was one of the few places that allowed you to sample the wine for about 9 euro. They offered a bottle for about 33 euro and I noticed that this variety can easy go up to 60 to 80 euro per bottle. You can also purchase other varieties of white wine from Cinque Terre and the surrounding regions as well. If I ever find myself back in Vernazza, I will definitely stop in for more wine from Vineria Santa Maria.
