Actual rating: 3 1/2 stars. When in Cinque Terre, go for the seafood, so that's exactly what we did. This is a restaurant near the Riomaggiare pier with a nice outdoor and indoor setting. Outdoor is right by the harbor while indoor decor reminded me of being in a cove; dimly lift, stone walls, and abstract artwork related to the sea. Dishes were a bit on the small and pricier side, but they did offer a nice variety of seafood dishes to choose from. We had the seafood linguine, local fish entree, trofie al pesto, and salted anchovies with herbed butter and bread. Everything was tasty, but would have been more of a hassle-free experience if there were a bowl for the discarded shellfish and if the herbed butter had been less difficult to spread. Otherwise, the dishes tasted just fine! Service wasn't the friendliest and came off a bit brusque and standoffish. At one point, we wanted to order another food item and the wait staff person just stared at me in a way that conveyed "Why are you asking ME?", the proceeded to walk off without a word. Perhaps it was a language barrier, but it made me feel bad for asking. Regardless, I don't regret dining here. Located in the marina area of Riomaggiore, we were happy to get a chance to dine here on June 23. Fortunately, we did not need a reservation and we were able to get a table outside at 9:00 pm. We both had the local fish filet with mashed potatoes and a delicious green drizzle (I wish I can remember what the drizzle was made of), as well as the tiramisu. After I was unable to talk my co-travelers out of going here (based on reviews here), I gave it a shot. Extremely rude staff. Just nasty and slow and inattentive. Nastiest is the blond GM or owner. Horrible food (never went to a place where they literally cut shrimp into handful of pieces smaller than peas and called it shrimp in your pasta). Expensive speaks for itself. The best way to explain this restaurant is underwhelming, at best. We came to Dau Cila on our last night in Cinque Terre. We had read that this was Michelin recognized, but you'd never know that from the food served. First off the service was horrific. They sit one batch of tables at 7:30p and another at 9:30p. We came for the 7:30p sitting, our waiter was so inattentive and curt. We had to ask for the basics, oil and vinegar and ice for bottle of wine. Overall the service was unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone a Michelin recognized one. The food was also underwhelming. We got the creamed cod app (3/5), twisted pasta with pesto (3/5), fish ravioli (4/5), baked fish potato soufflé (3/5) with and tiramisu for dessert (4/5). Overall food was okay, not stellar. This might have been our worst meal in Italy, and maybe our most expensive. If you're considering Dau Cila while in Riomaggiore, just pass. read more

Lovely dinner here on our last night in Riomaggiore-great service and delicious food! Make sure to make reservations (we went the evening before and made reservations) because they are fully booked most nights. We ordered the shrimp to start which were delicious with onions and chicory. My fiancé had the pesto pasta which was just okay (could have used some salt and pepper) and I got the sea bass which was excellent and presented beautifully. We got tiramisu for dessert which was also great. Price was reasonable at 80 euro for two drinks, app, two entrees and dessert. We had a wonderful dinner here seated outside right by the marina. Everything about this meal was excellent. It was recommended by the owner of the place we stayed. We were seated right at our reservation time. We ordered the squid ink pasta and the codfish stew. Both dishes were delicious with the perfect seasoning and very fresh ingredients. We also ordered the green salad, which was enough for 2 and had a varied mix of vegetables. To accompany this was 2 kinda of white wine; the house white and a local Cinque Terre variety with a bit more fruitiness. We like our food spicy so we asked for some chili peppers. We also asked for lemons and ice for our sparkling water. Every request was met with an, "of course". The service was great. Finally we finished the meal with some passion fruit pans cotta and cappuccino. Everything was great. Of the week we spent in Italy, this was the most memorable meal for my wife and I. Total was about 75 euros, so it wasn't terrible expensive. If you find yourself in Riamaggiore, reserve a table (7:30 or 9:30 seating) and give this Michelin guide restaurant a try. Great view of the ocean. I was super impressed with their starters (bruschetta and the also their squid). Bruschetta was crispy, salty from the anchovies and a bit sweet from the sundries tomatoes. Fantastic fresh seafood and beautiful views! This restaurant is located right in the marina of Riomaggiore. Our hosts booked us a reservation here following our sunset cruise, and we had a fantastic night out. There was a bit of a long wait to be seated, but the restaurant served us each a glass of wine while we waited. The octopus appetizer was incredible. Perfect location as the outside seating is right facing the Riomaggario Habor. Decent meals. Services was good considering the tourists crowd around lunch time. The beautiful view is what draw us here. Realized the ferry was nearby, we decided to take this photo perfect place to enjoy some seafood. A real dish with mouth watering shrimps next table made us order the expense 60 Europe for two seafood platter. Worth the money for sure. there were 3 different kinds of jumbo shrimp which grilled just right. Still tender and sea tasty. Black ink noodle was delicious. Fried seafood was better that the street food but still my least favorite. It is a hike but hike down those little stairs to the beach stat! There's 2 or 3 restaurants once you climb down. This being one of them with really big patio/deck seating. Eating pasta & seafood while the waves crash right by you? Yes please!! My love affair with Italy has been going on for several years now. People are always always so friendly. This place was no exception! They were slammed for lunch rush yet they were so friendly here. I see some tourists cranky-ing at the other table. Or some going bazooks for slow food. Seriously?? Our waiter was still quite gracious and fast to make everyone happy. And as always, I requested some peppers. Normally they give me peppers flakes in other places but this place, the waiter brought me a single fresh red pepper. Red, plump and almost look like habaneros but not quite. But one? I laughed. He said if I can finish one, he'll give me as many more as I want. Done!! Omg...he wasn't kidding! That Cinque Terre heat, sitting in the hot sun, and that single pepper! I broke a sweat. Wow!! But you know those endorphins! Makes me want more. So much more. Damn it. And he delivered. In the end, we were invited inside, a tiny little place with tiny kitchen and tiny bar for some appetitivo & drinks with all the waiters. Some have family in Rome as well. What do you know! We had dessert, jäger like shots and some other licorice like alcohol on the house!! This only happens in Italy . And got invited back for the party at night right there. There's no clubs /night life in cinque Terre but this place was it! Over all, great food, great service and fantastic views. Felt like I was visiting my long lost ( and very good looking ) family!! When arriving in Riomaggiore after a long day of travel, what many want is to be able to sit down with good food and relax. This restaurant did not accomplish that. For starters, the hospitality was non existent and the pricing of the food is exorbitant for the quality of the meal you receive. After walking in I was sat down and after getting my order I asked for olive oil with my bread. 20 minutes later still no olive oil. I ask again and I never ended up receiving the olive oil. The food is ridiculously priced for what it is, I have has much better meals for less. In Italy you typically pay for service not food, but the food nor service was good here, so what am I paying for? The waitress was inattentive and rude as well. She spoke with a condescending tone since she could tell I was a tourist. This place is a tourist trap, and the only reason I am giving it two stars is because of the location. Went here with high hopes. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere was great. Giving one star because one of the waiters that served us was HORRIBLE. This guy essentially just treated us like absolute garbage. First off, we were the only patio in the table with an unlit candle. A middle aged slim man with glasses (i later learned his art adorned the walls too) came over to our table and we asked if we could have our candle lit. HE LITERALLY SCOWLED AT US AND SAID NO!! Then he ran off without addressing any of our concerns and not like a casual run off like a full on 'don't bother me' run off. We had a few people serving our table but every time he came it was the same, super rude, zero service mentality. I feel like he profiled us as we are young female Americans but realistically I was probably the only person in the restaurant that blogs about where I eat and give restaurant recommendations for a living. So anyway, the night continued on with us having unanswered questions, empty glasses of water and so forth. Also, the guy truly just looked miserable to work WITH. He was red faced and running around in a very calm setting and adding a lot of stress to the atmosphere. He set things down so hard the tables shook and kept almost bumping into other waitstaff. I would say this guy was top three worst servers I've ever had and I eat out at least once a day. Personal message if they ever read it- hey server guy- clearly your art sucks as you're working as a server to make your wages... But your service sucks too so maybe you just suck? I think so. Also, I left my govt issued ID on the table and called later. I never heard back and they never sent my personal ID that includes my address back to me. In America it's only standard to try to contact someone if something so personal is left there but nope! I have to go back and go through the whole "lost or stolen process" even though I know exactly where my ID is. read more

We were seating at the dining area next to the kitchen which is next door in a seperate building. The atmosphere and decor is very unique. It is like we were dining inside a cave. There are a handful of seats which fits about 20 people and the same with the outdoor seatings. The food was delicious! They offer WiFi service. During the end of the of our dining experience the owner and workers had a dinner party of their own at the table behind us which gave us a sense of how close and friendly the community is. Dua Cila was recommended for us as we love seafood. As we had a long travel to get to Riomaggario and it was close to our accommodation we jumped at the chance. Bookings are essential. They have 2 sittings 7.30 & 9.30pm. The view of the harbour was quaint. The sea breeze delightful and great place to watch the people and the world go by. Our wait staff were lovely and cheerful and any request was greeted with a smile. The food presentation was spot on and everything looked mouth watering. Although cooked well we did find that our meals were a little lacking in flavour. Maybe as it was so highly recommended we expected more from this place. We had an amazing experience at Dau Cila. My fiancé and I went for a later dinner with no reservations and were able to get the last open table around 8:30pm. (Recommend a reservation though) We got a bottle of white wine and started with the King Praws which unfortunately had walnuts (which I am allergic to), so she got to enjoy both. She said it was the best shrimp she's ever had. After that the staff was super nice about making sure I didn't order anything with nuts (noci). I had the sea bass entree with broccoli and smash potatoes. It was phenomenal. My fiancé had the sea bass ravioli which also had some noci but she said it was amazing and the mussels in it were really good. We got the panna cotta for desert coupled with espresso shots and a grappa recommendation to end the night. We had almost every server at least at one point in the night. Edwardo was wonderful to us, joked with us and helped teach us some Italian so we didn't sound so silly! Lastly he offered to take a picture of us. Also, there was one man in the back corner who was having a ball with his date, speaking with a heavy accent and flipping his bottle upside down in the chiller when he finished it. Turns out it was Clia, a famous fisherman the restaurant is named after. We didn't get the whole story but he used to own the land and it sounded like he may own the restaurant but didn't want to officially say it. I heard a server say 'evening boss' as he walked out. I wanted to like Dau Cila. The location was lovely, overlooking the water at Riomaggiore on the Cinque Terre coast in Italy. There were white table cloths & candles. The menu looked and sounded pretty tasty. But alas, the service was awful. And to be honest, we shouldn't have been surprised by this fact given the reviews (on Tripadvisor in particular), but we wanted to give it a go as it was also recommended by our hotel and only one fellow Yelper had written about poor service. Ugh. We arrived early before our reservation time, hoping just to have a drink before dinner, but ended up being semi rushed into ordering given that we were seated already. I ordered the grilled fish which came with some smoked eggplant and the husband ordered grilled fish which came with some potatoes and olives. Very typical Ligurian cuisine for the part of the Italian Coast we were visiting. Simple, but if done well, delicious. We also shared a plate of grilled vegetables. The food was passable. I had some bones still in my fillet of white fish, which whilst not ideal, didn't make the meal terminal. I guess what I am saying is that if the service was amazing and the prices a bit more "value for money" I would not have batted an eyelash at the food. But when the other areas lack, particularly the service, well, then you start to pick-a-little more. And yes, we didn't have some do their more "famous" dishes, but you can't have only a couple of standout dishes on your menu. Everything needs to be at a certain standard. In terms of the service, we didn't really expect a lot as it can generally be quite blunt and inattentive in Italy, but these guys literally abandoned us as soon as our food was placed on the table. The husband had to get up in order to pay the bill eventually and this was after we watched a couple of other poor couples trying to get a table but being ignored whilst standing right in the doorway and staring directly at the MANY staff members that passed them by. Awful. There was severe favouritism being given to a table of locals inside, meaning that all the "tourists" sitting outside were basically ignored. I take great offence to this as the tourists are the people keeping these guys employed and in business. If it was awful service for everyone, that's another story again. But this? No thanks. However, he indulged the three of us who were dying to go (the smells coming from the kitchen were divine). The funny thing is that he surprised himself and thoroughly enjoyed his meal. The headline in Yelp says this place is "touristy". Quite frankly, you would be hard pressed to find a non-touristy restaurant in Riomaggiore or in all of Cinque Terre for that matter. But beyond the obvious, our dinner was really, really good. And because the restaurant is at the edge of the village where it meets the sea, the setting could not have been more postcard perfect than it was. The couple next to us had the exact same experience, however one of them received a plate, while the other didn't receive her food until about 30 minutes later. One of the best pesto sauces I've ever had. I had the trenette al pesto and my husband had the frittura (local seafood medley). We had the sciacchetra sweet wine too, as that region is known for it, and it was wonderful. An absolutely terrific meal with an ocean view.
