A lot of my childhood memories don't even really include buying things here- my parents weren't exactly rolling in the dough in the 90's but this place was so magical I never left disappointed. But- here's my adult perspective review. I love coming here for the nostalgia, gifts for everyone in my life, the seasonal items, and for The dopamine hit. I love all of their fidget toys, tiny silly toys like baby doll race cars (as in a car in the shape of a baby), blind box toys and their trading set up, and baby section. This is where you go when your friend is having a baby and already has all of the gear she needs. This is where you get stickers, your Christmas ornaments, a jellycat moon that is larger than you, a family of squirrels, a custom dollhouse family...I could go on and on.

Although the pricing here is completely ridiculous ($700 for a stuffed animal?), the selection…read moreabsolutely makes up for it. There are toys for people of all ages...and I mean all ages. I was even able to pick up some fidgets for myself for prices comparable to Amazon which was cool (I believe the brand was in contract with Terra Toys). The staff was decent and not hovering. The most obnoxious part was navigating the store with all of the kids running around but the store seems very ADA friendly. My nephew seemed to enjoy the store and that's all that matters, even if he wanted a $20 hand puppet that was probably $2 wholesale. I'll keep this place in the back of my mind! I loved the miniature series of collectors' items.

They even have a great variety of paints, posters, games, and books too. I visited during the winter holiday and the staff was super helpful and friendly as I made my way around the store. I was offered assistance in finding the specific grade level flashcards and resources I was looking for. There is such a great diverse offerings of methods, themes, and strategies on all the things needed to help support any learner. I loved looking at every single thing in this store as I shopped. There was also great pricing and a large clearance area too worth your time to check out. I highly recommend signing up for the members free/texting offers. They always have great deals and offers. They offer discounts and freebies all the time.

I found everything I needed and wanted, from lesson plans to games, all at a reasonable price. I must add that the staff was very instrumental in what I needed more than I did. They also suggested I get a discount card, but no need for that because teaching for me was only for one year! So I like to give them a big thank-you from all the teachers who show up, lost, after not teaching for a while!

They've been in business for forty years and it's easy to see why. They've cultivated a welcoming environment for everyone from the "comic book nerd" to the novice. From the outside, it sits quietly in a North Austin shopping center near Hop Doddy's. If you blink, you might miss it. Once you step through the doors, you feel transported to a totally different place like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter story. You find shelves of comics, books, games...everywhere your imagination can take you. Dragon's Lair has been part of the Austin community since 1986. You feel a rush to flip through comics, try on costumes or transport yourself to a fantasy land. New releases co-exist with long loved series. Graphic novels, tabletop games, miniatures, dice, and collectibles are readily available. The prices at Dragon's Liar appear reasonable. According to the store manager, the tables within the store are reserved for Magic tournaments, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) campaigns, and board games spread across tables. The energy is welcoming fostering collaboration between new and existing players. The shop cats, Diana and Brigid, wander through aisles like they own the place, which makes Dragon Liar feel homey and welcoming. The store stays open late sometimes, acknowledging that games and stories don't always fit neatly into set hours. Dragon's Lair is huge, busy, sometimes overwhelming in a good way. It reflects Austin's creative culture...inclusive, and deeply passionate.
