I'm only signing up to Yelp so I can illuminate the world on how absolutely awful this company is and how horrible of an experience it was to "work with" them. I'm also only posting here because this company isn't even registered with the BBB!!! Don't do what we did. Do your research, people. Also, I'm sure Jeff, the owner, will know exactly who is posting. I don't care. What I didn't say to him today, wish I had, and will say here is that that guy is a big fat lying d**k. F**k head. He even sank so low as to lie to both my husband and I seperately, then tried to pin the two of us against each other. "Well, how does the lack of communication you two have look? I can't help it if you two aren't on the same page." Who the fuck does that???
We were recommended this company by a friend that has had them do work several times and just got lucky. We figured we'd be fine. We did not get lucky.
We ordered our windows in the beginning of November with about a half down deposit (which pretty much covered the cost of the windows.) The only thing we've gotten as a written contract was that first quote (again people, learn from our mistake.) We went ahead and ordered (what we thought to be) Retro-fitted windows that would fit into our current trimming. We waited the standard 4 weeks for the windows to arrive and in the beginning of December were thrilled to find out that the guy had measured our openings WRONG. TWICE. Now that the windows were here, we had taken off of work, and all the guys were here, they circled the house for about 45 minutes and discussed the best way to save themselves from eating the cost of the custom ordered windows. NOT how do we make OUR MISTAKE right for our customers? No. They talked the whole time on minimizing the damage done for their end of things.
Their solution was to demolish our trimming on the internal and external surfaces of our house (and leave our bedroom covered in dust that took us about a week to get rid of, God knows how much of that shit we breathed in during this time) and have their guy who had "worked a bit with wood" build our window frames. They only did that one window because at that point it was about 5pm. Another lesson people: insist on what you want. Had we insisted on the retro-fit windows, we would probably be posting about them trying to charge for their mistake, rather than us bending over backwards to work with them and living through 6 weeks of construction hell.
They came back about TWO weeks later and demolished the rest of the windows, leaving the cinder brick exposed to the inside. Again, lots of dust. Again, exposed brick that was dirty and spewed dirt all over our home, only now it was every single room. Our cat constantly had something new in his mouth that he pulled from those exposed frames. Also, basically the only thing a burglar would need was a box cutter to cut through the caulk on the outside frame and hop inside of the house. Thankfully that didn't happen.
We lived that way for THREE weeks, through Christmas and New Year's, with guests coming to our house. I cleaned the house about twice a week and there was still constantly dust coating everywhere. Any idea how frustrating that is?
Finally in the beginning of January they brought in another guy to build the internal frames and fix the stucco ripped out on the outside frames. He made it quite clear that he was coming from another expensive job and we were his second priority, as he was doing our job as a favor. He showed up about a half hour before sundown to do about 90 minutes of outside work. Needless to say, he had to come back the next day to finish the sloppy job. He insisted that all of this would be invoiced to Nelson Glass, as it was all related to the window demolition. Are you counting? This is now FOUR days of taking off early or completely from work.
So what was left was the inside caulk sealing the trim to the window frame. Meanwhile, we had noticed a screen that already had a quarter sized tear in it. We waited ANOTHER week and took another day off early from work for the caulk and screen (5. That's five days.) Also in this time we had had several discussions with Jeff regarding how awful this has been and how long it had been and that we really didn't think he deserved to make full price when we bent over backwards (and got nailed in the ass) to fix THEIR mistake. We were in the middle of negotiations (Jeff was supposed to call my husband back to finalize the discount) when the tech came today to finish the job and insisted that I sign off on the dotted line. When I didn't agree, the tech called Jeff and we spent about 30 min on the phone, where he said the glorious quote at the top of this review and also threatened to take us to court. That's when the full blown liar came out of him. He claimed we owed another $100 for the stucco work. He claimed he was being ever so nice by giving us 6.5% off.
Summary: 10 weeks. Over Christmas. 5 days off work. Fuck this guy. read more
