So happy to be in the hands of this garage after our car broke down in North Haven -- very friendly, thorough and accommodating.

This was not on my list today but we had to detour this far out of New Haven because most of the…read morecity was shut down for a marathon or something. Anyway, since we're here, we learned that this was some of the more inexpensive fuel in the area so I took the time to fill up. Wide pump area, nicely covered and everything at the pump worked just fine. Even though I don't shop much at Cumbie's, it was nice to get the membership discount on my gas today. I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service I experienced during a recent visit…read more I initially attempted to pay for my gas through the company's app, but the payment did not appear to go through. I went inside and spoke with John, who was wearing an AirPod, using his phone, and appeared distracted and uninterested in assisting me. We attempted to charge $30 for gas twice, and both attempts were denied. When I returned to my vehicle, I discovered that $60 had actually been successfully withdrawn from my account. I also discovered that there were additional unsuccessful charges of $30 and $150, each attempted twice. I went back inside and explained the situation to John. His response was, "I'ma be honest with you, I just started here. I can't do nothing for you." While I understand that a new employee may not know how to resolve every situation, the dismissive attitude and lack of effort to find someone who could assist me were extremely frustrating. I then asked another employee, Niko, for help. I did not know his name at the time, but he was an older gentleman who was working inside. Niko was courteous and assured me that the money should be returned within a few minutes and told me to come back in the morning if it did not. I appreciated that he at least took the time to listen and provide me with some direction. I waited in my vehicle for several minutes before going back inside. At that point, I observed John in front of the counter actively playing with merchandise rather than working. Rosie was also behind the counter playing with the same merchandise, to the point that the customer ahead of me actually asked what they were playing with. When that customer left, I approached Rosie and explained the situation. She agreed that the money should be returned within a few minutes. I responded that I had already waited several minutes. She then laughed and said, in a snarky tone, "How has it been a couple minutes, we just started talking?" I had to explain that I meant I had already waited several minutes before coming back inside and speaking with her, not that we had been talking for several minutes. Rosie then told me she could not help me and that there was no manager present. She stated that the manager was the only person who knew how to handle gas-related issues. I asked Rosie for her name and how long she had worked for the company. I also asked for the name of the older gentleman who had previously assisted me. Rosie told me, "I can't give out that information out, it's private." I pointed out that the employees were wearing name tags, so how could it be private? At that point, John inserted himself into the conversation and said, "That's not true. John isn't my name. This isn't my name tag. I wear this because I don't want people to know my name." What followed was an unnecessary back-and-forth that had absolutely nothing to do with resolving my issue as a customer. I eventually approached another visible employee, Tyler, and asked for the older gentleman's name. Tyler was able to provide it: Niko. I want to be clear that my frustration is not simply because there was a payment issue. Technical and payment problems happen. My dissatisfaction comes from how the situation was handled. Or, more accurately, how it was not handled. The lack of attentiveness, customer service skills, professionalism, and willingness to assist was extremely disappointing. The rude and dismissive interactions with John and Rosie made an already frustrating situation significantly worse. I do want to recognize Niko for attempting to help me and Tyler for actually providing assistance when I asked for Niko's name. Unfortunately, their efforts were overshadowed by the behavior of the other employees. As a customer, I expect to be treated with basic courtesy and respect, especially when there is a financial issue involving multiple charges to my account. Based on this experience, I have very little confidence in the customer service at this location, and this experience will likely result in me taking my business elsewhere in the future.
