Middlesex Auto and their partner shop, Tony's Auto Services, were life savers on a recent cross country trip. After driving 12 hours the previous day, I knew I needed my SUV looked at before another 12 hour day. I arrived just after 7AM, and Javi (at Tony's) was gracious enough to take a look even though their schedule was packed for that day. He determined my wheel barrings needed to be replaced, and brought me directly into the shop/under my vehicle to talk through a few issues and things I should be watching out for (knowing full well any future repairs wouldn't go to them as I'm obviously from far out of state). When the owner came in, he talked me through my options and squeezed me into his second shop to actually get the work done. He ordered the parts and offered to drive me to his other location (which was unneeded but appreciated), and they were expecting me and immediately got to work on my vehicle. The receptionist quoted me 3 hours and offered to drive me up town to kill time along their main street. I again declined but spent some time wandering up there, got a great breakfast, etc. After 2 hours she called and said she'd put an additional mechanic on my vehicle to save time and that it was ready. They even knocked off the additional cost of labor even though it still took the same (or more) man hours to actually complete it! They made further recommendations like replacing my tires (again, knowing they wouldn't benefit from it), and were very honest about what could and could not wait. Middlesex and Tony's fully took care of me, working me into their already too-full schedule, got me on the road, and I was able to finish my trip to see my family. Their honesty, workmanship, and desire to truly help people was very apparent, and I would recommend them all day long. read more

After having my catalytic converter stolen I wanted to get it replaced, nothing fancy. Everyone had told me Tony's was "the guy" to go to. I stupidly agreed to pay $3800 for the repair (new cat + cat protection plate cover) on the Prius I purchased for $5500. I didn't realize until after the part was in the vehicle that I was essentially purchasing the premium version of the potential catalytic converters I could have installed, I asked them for the part number and after visiting the website of the manufacturer, realized they applied a huge up-charge. They were supposed to recharge my AC Freon to 500g but only put in 193g. I found out after I went to the Kia dealer to have it assessed because after over a month of trying to work with Tony's my AC was still blowing hot. Kia did the diagnostic and found only 193g of Freon had been added. Tony's was very difficult to work with, and I also found they were persistent with having my review deleted from another major platform, when all I am doing is posting my honest experience with receipts/proof attached. Great service, fair prices. I called to see if they could fit me in same day and finish by 4pm for a road trip -- my hood was rusted shut, preventing me from replacing my headlight so I could drive safely in the rainy weather. They told me to come right in and they would see what they could do. George and Ismael stood out in the rain trying to loosen up my hood latch, replace my headlight, my tail light, and even did a last minute oil change to make sure my car was safe to drive today. They topped off all of my fluids and fixed my tire pressure without even being asked. I made it out of there with a $35 charge for the oil change and 1/2 hour of labor for the hood latch/headlight repairs, topping my bill off at just under ~$100. (On the contrary, Firestone Auto told me they would charge $200 just to replace a headlight, not even knowing my hood was stuck shut). I will definitely come back here in the future. Auto shops so often leave you feeling like you were cheated, but I trust these guys and felt like they had my best interests in mind. read more

Tony's truly blew me away and exceeded my expectations. As a single young woman who knows next to nothing about cars, I so often leave auto shops feeling cheated or uncomfortable. The customer service at Tony's was honest, upfront and allowed me to feel secure when I usually wouldn't. They are able to quickly make time for me when my car needs attention, and have never charged me exorbitant prices. They don't give me funny looks or scoff at me when I'm nervous about new noises my car is making or something new I've noticed. Because of this I'm not shy or nervous about getting my car the attention it needs, and I am so grateful! read more

I was new to the area and had a transmission issue which needed immediate attention. I asked friends who knew New Haven for recommendations and was directed to Tony's Auto Service. I called and was asked what time worked for me and made an appointment. They did not charge me anything to evaluate my car and determine what was needed. The work was completed on time and the estimate was within 10% of the final bill. They even took care of taking me home when I initially dropped off the car. I am not sure what more you could ask for from an auto repair shop. If needed they will certainly have my business again. read more

My car has been at the shop for two weeks. When it first arrived no one called me to let me know that the tow truck driver had arrived with the car and they began service. Including in these two weeks there's been no call from the shop nor a estimation of how much things will cost just a bunch of broken promises and lack of follow-ups. My last conversation was left with an additional broken promises and even a false hope stating "we will reach out to you by Saturday we apologize for the lack of communication". Nonetheless Saturday has come and gone. The shop was actually based on a referral from a customer sadly. read more

Short version: great staff, great service, and professional and well done repair work. Long version: I was on my to New London, CT from Long Island, NY to watch a friend of mine play in the Coast Guard football game that afternoon. The day before I drove up to NY from MD and I was hearing an odd noise near my front left wheel whenever I tried to brake. The noise continued to get louder throughout the drive and was even worse the next day. Worried about what was going on, I googled "auto repair" on my maps and eventually found Tony's. The staff immediately checked out my car for the issue and showed me what was going on. My brake pads were essentially no longer and it was metal grinding on metal. I decided to get them replaced. On a time limit, they put three guys on the job and four hour repair turned into an hour and 15 minutes. Expecting to be there well after the first half, I only missed the first 3 minutes. I just started taking my car to Tony's a little over a month ago and I couldn't be happier with the service I've received. The first time I went there I needed a new tire, I called George at 4 ish and asked if he had my size tire in stock and he did. I couldn't make it down until after 5 when I got out of work. I got out of work late and didn't make it there till 5:45 pm, luckily he was still there, I asked if he was closed and he said technically yes, but how can I help you. I told him what happened and he pulled the tire and put it on my car with no questions asked. That's great customer service if you ask me!! I told him that I needed the other tired replaced too, but I didn't have the money to have it done for another week. He said that was fine and he would hold the other three tires aside for me. I went back in a week and got the tires replaced. I have had nothing but nice things to say about this place. The staff is friendly and willing to answer questions and they are easy to talk to. When you walk in there you don't feel like you're going to be taken advantage of, you know you're going to get the help you need at a reasonable price. read more
