Rick is an absolute professional. After having stumbled upon his store on Yelp with high ratings and positive reviews, I took my car to his workshop this morning. He agreed to give me his feedback even though he does not do transmissions. He took my car for a 15minute ride and told me everything was fine and maybe I should visit a transmission shop if need be. He didn't charge a single penny for his time and was courteous and friendly all the while. If you're reading this you already know about the solid 5 stars this place has earned over the years so I apologize if this is redundant. Rick's is a small "hole in the wall" place behind a vacant building that's home to honest and straightforward guys who are genuinely helpful. I brought my ride in there and they were able to diagnose the issue, explain exactly what it meant, and have me on my way in less than a day. On this visit I elected not to fix the issue (it wasn't an immediate threat and I wanted to save a little to make it happen) and they didn't even charge me for the labor to have the car put up and completely diagnosed! These guys have such integrity and are brilliant - why would you bring your vehicle anywhere else with service like that? Go to Ricks, they're the best in the area for sure! read more

Rick's is my go to mechanic with any of my car troubles. Just recently I brought my car in for a tune up as I have an upcoming road trip and just hit 50,000 miles, Rick called me later that afternoon and said I'm good to go. He didn't even charge me for diagnostics and explained why the one issue I thought I had wouldn't require any service. My original experience with Rick's came when my car's windows suddenly stopped working. I called my dealership and they explained it'd be a $99 diagnostic fee in addition to whatever issue they found with my window. I figured I would call around and found Rick's. Took my car down, later that day he called me to come pick up my car. Rick only charged me $20 and thoroughly explained the issue that was causing my windows to malfunction. I can guarantee that the dealership would've set me back a few hundred dollars. I felt bad only paying $20 bucks! Great guy, highly recommended. read more

Rick's service is top notch! He was very friendly and respectful. The price was fair and he did so much for me free of charge!!! I went to this place because they said they would squeeze me in and I was desperate for an oil change. I arrived on the dot and there was no wait. I was in and out in 20-30 min. I asked for an oil change only but Rick went ahead and filled up my windshield fluid, cleaned up the corrosive on my battery connection and did a thorough inspection for leaks and tire pressure voluntarily. He even offered to pump my tire because the pressure was a little low! He did point out some minor cracks on the exhaust but also said that they weren't urgent and might cost more than their worth. Bottom line: a very honest man, excellent mechanic. Highly recommended! I would come here again. The shop is tucked away behind the building next to the U-Haul place. It's not very conspicuous but totally worth the search! read more

I came here back in July 2014 because my brakes were grinding. They lied to me and told me the rotors were already turned down and that I should get new rotors on my back wheels. They also put on new breaks. The brakes fail 15k miles later and they put them on wrong. They also used the crappiest materials they could find for rotors. This place is terrible. Avoid them at all costs. They essentially stole $400 from me. They put the crappy materials on my car and they didn't install them correctly. read more

This is my second visit to ricks auto center and it was just as pleasant as the last. I have never felt as comfortable receiving work on my vehicle as i do with these professionals. I needed service done on my front rotors/brake pads. So i called in to clarify some of the specifications of the job and one of the mechanics mike was able to answer all my questions and concerns in a friendly patient manner. I even let him know i was under time constraints and he was gladly willing to accommodate upon sufficient notice. I highly recommend this auto shop to those looking for honest mechanics. read more

Rick is the best! I moved to New Haven for grad school with an older, out of state vehicle and was informed by the first shop I took it to for an oil change that I needed a ton of work done. In search of a second opinion, I asked my favorite bartender (a local!) for a recommendation of trustworthy mechanic. He referred me to Rick, who was just opening his own shop, and I couldn't be more grateful. Rick is honest, friendly, and down to earth. He's the first mechanic I haven't been wary of as a single female getting work done on my car - I always felt like I was getting the run around and "recommendations" for things I didn't need. Rick gave it to me straight, told me what was absolutely necessary, roughly how long I could go before replacing other parts and doing additional maintenance work. He took into consideration that I'm on a student budget, and told me what he would do if he were in my position. Rick gave me an estimate of what the cost would be, and honored that estimate once all repairs were finished. His shop is a little off the beaten path, but I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. If I'm just getting an oil change and waiting for him to finish, his wife Keri is a riot to visit with. If my car is going to have to stay at the shop overnight or over the weekend, I take my bike along and bike back to New Haven on the Farmington Canal Trail.
