Brought my 2014 Focus in because the radiator had problems and the car was overheating. They replaced the radiator incorrectly and left the engine thermostat locked open. I went back to my dealer just to find out I needed a new radiator ($400) and had to pay for a new thermostat ($1100). If you need a new tire, fine, but their mechanics don't seem to know what they're doing. read more

Unfortunately, I live close by and have been forced to use this place due to its proximity a few times. The next time I have a problem, I will definitely go to another place for my auto care. I recently had some work done on the car that was unavoidable. During this last time I had a lot of complaints with the price quotes, time estimate and customer service. Price quote: I was initially quoted a price prior to getting started, which was in a decent range considering the work I was getting done. However, when it came time to pay, the price I ended up paying was considerable higher than what was quoted. Now, I understand that things change as time goes on while working on your car and they might find stuff that requires a higher charge..but the change was vastly different. It varied by a few hundred dollars!!! Why would it vary a few hundred! If something changes they should give you a heads up and let you know up front rather than after the fact with no choice but to pay. I noticed on prior reviews that this was a common occurrence at this location. Time estimate: I was told the job would only take a few hours maybe 4-5. I dropped the car off early early in the morning thinking it would get done and be ready to go by late afternoon...Fast forward to a day and half later. I ended up getting my car the next day before closing time (7pm). Once again, I understand things come up and make it take longer. I admit I was a little upset how long it took to get done but it was more of the lack of communication that really made me upset. It would have been nice have a courtesy call to let me know it wasn't going to be done when it was originally planned for. I had to call to get updates on the status of my car. I was basically told after a while that "it'll get done when it gets done." Nobody wants to hear that when you were told it would only take a few hours and it ended up taking a day and half to complete the job. Customer service: This is by far and away my biggest complaint for this location. The customer service or lack thereof is horrible. With all the inaccurate price estimates or poor time estimations, nobody was every apologetic or even nice about it. If you're going to nickel and dime me and waste my time than they could at least do it with a SMILE!! I felt with every conversation I had with them from beginning till end that i was inconveniencing them. Now I am sure the the job is hard and they are overworked, but thats not an excuse to be rude to customer. I am sure a lot you people who read this will still go anyway because of it easy and convenient location, but if you can...AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more

I looked online (I live 8 hrs. away) and told her to get over to this Firestone as they were only open another half-hour. Not happy with this place. This morning I noticed that one of my tires looked low. Since I knew it was time for an oil change, I decided to kill two birds with one stone. I'd previously taken my car to Valvoline for oil changes, but the location most convenient for me has unfortunately closed. I was really busy at work, but did a quick Yelp search and stupidly ignored the bad reviews. So I took my car in. By the time I got help at the counter I'd forgotten to ask if they check tire pressure as part of the oil change. When I realized this later, I didn't worry about it. I thought it was pretty standard for an oil change, and if not, I could always stop on my way home. They called me over within the time quoted. As I was paying, I asked if they'd put air in the tires. "Oh, everything looked good," was the response I got. I asked for clarification- it looked before or after they serviced the vehicle?- and let him know I'd realized it was low earlier that day. "No now, now it's good. You should be all set." Great. So I went out to the dimly lit parking lot where I couldn't see anything. Trusted that what he'd told me was true. Got home and guess what? The tire's low! Now that I'm home and have more time to research, it looks like a tire check isn't part of their oil change. That's fine if it's not, just tell me it's not! Don't lie to me! read more

Due to convenience of location, I've had to use these guys a number of times in a pinch (flat tire, dead battery, new tires, light fixes). I strongly feel that they need a management change to improve their approach to customer service and how they do business. With numerous employees I have had conflicting estimates (of how much time or cost or what was wrong), and they are hardly ever apologetic about anything, tending to act as if talking to you is bothersome or inconvenient. They always take about twice as long to do simple jobs as one would expect, like repairing a tire, and, in comparison with other auto shops like SKF nearby, you get the feeling that you're paying more for everything than you should. Do they always find random things that may or may not be wrong with your car but now need repairing? Seems like it. I've also had to call them repeatedly to check in on when my car would be ready -- a common complaint among other reviewers -- as they are terrible about telling you accurate times and don't check in regularly enough with customers. I was told one time my repairs would take about an hour and they'd start working on it right away, but then 3 hours later they hadn't called back. Just not good customer service. Like I said, I don't blame one person who works there. I'm sure they work hard. But there needs to be better leadership at this place to instill a change in how they do business. It's unfortunate that such a great location for an auto shop in downtown NH is such a let-down. You've been warned. read more

I was referred I this Firestone by Enterprise rent a car due to a slow leak in my tire for the rental vehicle. They made me wait 2 hours while they were trying to get an approval from Enterprise claims department. Funny how I was able to get an approval in 15 minutes so I can get out of there and continue my vacation! read more

I took my car in here to replace a flat tire and asked them to do a full tune-up on the car. The price was expensive, but I went ahead because it was convenient. After that, pretty much every aspect of the transaction was frustrating: * No one called me to tell me the car was ready. After two days of calling, I finally found a person who would comment on my car's status. * He listed everything wrong with my car in total jargon. It turns out after a 15 minute conversation that nothing is acutally wrong with the car -- it's just old. * The original service I requested was to rotate and align the tires and change the oil. Turns out they don't align the tires because it's an extra fee. They only check the alignment and then tell you if they need to be re-aligned. More than $350 later, I still haven't had my car tuned up properly. I will never use another Firestone Tire. read more

Came to this Firestone to fix a leaky tire last year since my tire indicator light came on. This place is the worst. They replaced the leaky tire with a brand new one. When I drove away, the light was still on. I called Firestone to ask why. They told me if I kept driving the light would turn off on its own. Fast forward a year later and the light is still on. Both J&J in Madison and Valvoline in New Haven told me the guys from Firestone broke ALL FOUR of my tire sensors, each of which costs about $60-$120 to replace. I went to Firestone for what was essentially a $30 problem and now have to pay over $200 to fix the damage they caused and never even owned up to. A reputable mechanic told me he has no idea why Firestone would say the light would go away on its own, and that suggests Firestone was incompetent, careless, and attempted to cover up their mistake. Instead of owning their mistake, they tried to bury it. Good thing I can Yelp about them though. Yes, it is conveniently located to Yale students with cars, but trust me, it is not worth it!! read more

Been here a couple times, mostly for oil changes, but just had tires done about a month ago. Oil changes have always been good, and they haven't screwed anything up, so thats a plus. Tires that I ordered were out of stock, so they upgraded me to a better tire, another plus. I dropped off my car at 9:30am, and told them I get out of work at 5, but that I could be flexible a bit, and if they needed more time, call me so I could make arrangements. At 5pm i still hadn't heard from them, and when I called they said it wouldn't be ready until 7pm... ridiculously inconvenient. read more

This Firestone is amazing! The managers are so trustworthy. I've never had a better experience with a car mechanic. Let me illustrate with a little story-- I went to a Firestone in Milford on Boston Post Road (next to Uno) when the engine light on my 2002 Toyota Highlander came on. That bad Firestone charged me $190 to inspect my car and told me that they would have to spend 3 hours working to replace a faulty wire connection. I was in a rush so I went back to New Haven. A few days later I went to the Good Firestone (this one in New Haven). They took my car over night and examined it. The ran the same diagnostic check. When I picked up the car, I was told that the original diagnosis was wrong and that they just needed to tweak a tube connected to the exhaust. This good Firestone charged me NOTHING! They didn't charge me for the work and they didn't charge me for the new diagnosis test. I was amazed. I trust this Firestone, take my car there, and suggest that you do, too!!! read more

Do not go here. I've had my car serviced here several times and some how I've needed new rotors on my car annually...red flag. They suggest more work than needs to be done for their own benefit, not the customers. For instance, I had my car serviced recently where they replaced ANOTHER damaged rotor and rebuilt a caliber. In addition to these $700 repairs they said my car needed an entire new exhaust system. Parts "needed": (according the firestone lol) -Remove and replace Front exhaust pipe -Remove and replace Muffler and Tail pipe Assembly -Remove and replace pre-muffler or center pipe exhaust system. They quoted me at $1,041.00 for parts and labor. I happily declined. Not once did they mention what was actually damaged, or show me the damaged part(s). I went to another shop through a referral from a friend. Barrys Auto in Cheshire, well worth the drive. The Honest mechanics at barry's sent me a photo of the slightly damaged pipe, spliced the damaged area and i got a bill for $68.00 dollars. Quite a difference between price no? Its laughable. Screw this place and their dishonest practices. the only thing they have is convenience, its right by my apartment. But the is nothing "convenient" about $1,000.00 of work that I don't need. Find a different shop and save yourself financial burden and stress that comes with dealing with dishonest people an shady business practices. read more

They showed me the parts that needed to be replaced, it was nice to be involved- there's no run-around at this place! They have free wi-fi so I worked while I waited, and they guaranteed my parts, which isn't overrated. I'm not from this town, had an unlucky situation and got a flat tire on the DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRE, while on the highway. got my car towed to the nearest location. I called at 7:05am to get the process going, an employee named Austin told me they're gonna take a look and it will be resolved. By 10:45am I call to see how the process is going, they then told me I'll be needing two tires and not just the one since there was another tire that would be needing fixing soon but it's obviously not necessary now, so I simply asked for the one. They said they'll be needing to order it since they didn't have my exact tire in stock. I said okay what would the time frame be because I had company with me when I got the flat, Cody, an employee then tells me 1-2pm. I then head down to get my car but got a call and missed it stating they ordered the wrong size tire and I will now have to wait until 2:30 to get the new one. And that's not even the best part yet. I was beyond thankful they didn't charge me any labor so I only paid for the tire which was very accommodating. But I then drive home, everything's good but my car is quite shaky even at 60mph. By 6pm i leave my house, to find the tire alarm ringing about a flat, so I then get out and my drivers side tire is fine, go around the car to find my passenger side tire is now flat and my father found a nail in it. I'm not sure if they ordered a new tire, popped that and rotated it but even the scratched, rigged rim from the flat tire on my drivers side was on the passenger side which confused me for sure. My passenger side tire also had no cap on it so I blow it up to see if that was the problem my alarm goes off and now I'm happy again. 1:00pm the next day i wake up and notice the passenger side tire is now flat AGAIN. So what did I pay $206 for? Did you guys rotate the tires? Did you plug the old one and place it on my passenger side? EITHER WAY I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED THIS KIND OF SERVICE AND I ACTUALLY GO TO THE FIRESTONE IN MY TOWN AND I LOVE IT. It was obviously the employees at this location, I definitely will next time get a receipt for the time my tire order was put in for order after I called 5 minutes after opening. There's no reason I had to wait until 2:54pm to get ONE TIRE PATCHED AND PUT BACK ON!!!! YOU GUYS NEED TO DO BETTER. There were plenty of them sitting around and laughing as well, and don't get me wrong, definitely have fun on the job but not ONE CAR WAS BEING WORKED ON WHEN MY AND 3 OTHER PASSENGERS PULLED IN. read more

My family and I have been going to Firestone locations in New York and Connecticut for years for our auto service and tire needs. I took my car to Firestone in New Haven, CT because I was hearing a grinding noise as I drove. I had been having the problem for a while and took the car there once before, but I wasn't able to give them the proper amount of time to figure out the issue. Once I was able to afford more time, they were able to figure out that cupping of the tires was causing the problem. All 4 tires were under warranty, so they replaced them at no cost. They also did a free alignment (of course, I have a lifetime alignment with Firestone) and threw in installation and taxes for no charge! I walked away with four new high quality tires for free! And the car now drives like it's floating on air. You can't find this level of consideration, honesty, and service anywhere else. Sure, things go wrong from time to time. And it can get expensive. But I trust the technicians at Firestone are being honest with me. I appreciate the consistently high level of courtesy and professionalism from the staff at the New Haven, CT Firestone. They have earned my trust. They make sure that I have the peace of mind that my family is safe. And that's beyond valuable to me. read more

Terrible experience. Don't ever go there. If you happen to have a problem they don't take responsibility and you'll have to pay yourself for any damage they caused. They broke my car and it cost me $450 to fix it somewhere else. Robbers. This is what happened: I took my car for an oil change and checkup. The next day I had no brakes. I went back to Firestone to tell them about the problem in the hope they would fix it (they had said that the breaks were fine the day before and I had never had a problem before!). They told me it had nothing to do with them since they only did a visual inspection of the breaks. I had to take my car somewhere else and was told the break liquid pump was broken. Then, when we saw that the break liquid tank's lid was loose and there was no liquid we realized what happened. The guys at Firestone left the lid loose, the liquid went out and I drove on an empty tank. The pump worked with no liquid until it broke. It cost me $450 to fix it. read more

Went in for a standard oil change and tire rotation on a fairly new car. It's partially my fault for not reading the line items they added, but it's unethical in my opinion to add line items such as a "vehicle inspection" and "special oil change" even though it was clear I simply needed a synthetic blend and tire rotation and nothing more. It appears they charged me for full synthetic as well. All in all I was overcharged for multiple line items that I cleared had no need for and that's an unethical business practice. read more

I went in for an emissions test that was supposed to take 15 minutes. One hour later, I checked in to see what was causing the delay and found out it my car was ready to go; the guy at the front desk just hadn't told me. The completed paperwork listed my car as being registered in the wrong state and when I asked them to correct it, I was told they'd have to redo the whole test to fix the clerical error. Also, over the course of the 1.5 hours total that I sat there (for a "15-minute job") I saw a mechanic be unnecessarily rude to two other customers. No thanks! read more

If there is one thing that I hate, it is being lied to by a mechanic. Its true, I do not know the most about cars... but I do know basic mechanics and dynamics. I went into Firestone with some fluid leaking from my radiator, and for an oil change. When I came back to pick up the car, the oil change had been performed, but then I was told that the radiator was cracked in half, and that all of the hoses in the car needed to be changed. Now, granted, this was winter when I took the car in... but something just did not sound right about even being able to drive a block in winter with a radiator cracked in half... so how had I ever made it there that morning? So, I thanked them for their few thousand dollar estimate, and went my way. The next morning, I went to S.K.F. and spoke to Ray (see my review and raving about this mechanic and how wonderful he is) only to discover that my radiator was NOT cracked in half... that my hoses were just FINE... as a matter of fact, the big problem was that the rubber o ring had corroded over time and that was causing the leaking. So, $40 later, I went home a happy man. Never... ever... ever... will I return to Firestone... give your local mechanic a chance... they need your business, and realize that if they lie to you, you wont come back. read more

Zero stars, and I lived across the street. Once I went in, gave them 4 days to change my oil, rotate and balance tires. When i picked it up my car wouldn't start. They told me the battery was dead and i needed to buy a new one. Clearly these jackholes left the lights on. Again, out of necessity, i went back. Was told it needed new tie rods. no thanks, just change the oil and fix the tire. Drove with a vibratio b/c the tire wasn't mounted right, which i fixed at a buddy's house. I took it to ANOTHER FIRESTONE and was told the tie rods were completely fine, there was no issue whatsoever with them. They're the worst. I now take mine all the way to Bridgeport. read more

I should have given them 0 star... I sent my car in for a complete inspection. When I drove out of the parking lot into the street, my rear wheel on the driver's side was coming off... All screws were gone. Two of them were found on the street. I was shocked. I was driving very slowly, it could have been lot worse. The mechanics fixed it and sent me home, they claimed it was because I left the car in their parking lot overnight, someone was trying to steal the wheel, didn't make it but only loosened the screws (I was speechless). I was angry and scared. You tell me if anybody should go to this store and have his/her car fixed there. read more

First review, but the honest and friendly service we had from Dave at Firestone is worth mentioning! We had a tire blow and had the car towed here, not knowing what to expect. First, we were pleasantly surprised by their flexibility--we opted to change all the tires on the car and weren't sure which to choose, and Dave was happy to let us shop around that evening online and then let him know which we chose the next day. Then once the tires were selected, the turnaround was quite quick to locate them, bring them in, and install them. The price for the tires was a little high (though still fair), but for simplicity's sake we went ahead. The best part was that when I mentioned the price seemed high to Dave, he volunteered that if I found a cheaper price online (factoring in shipping), he would potentially refund us the difference. I did some research and called him up with what I found, and sure enough he did exactly that! Just felt honest and straightforward from start to finish. read more

I have taken both my cars to this location and not pleased with service. Most recent experience- had my car in for wheel alignment- simple enough right? Wrong! After I was charged was advised car will continue to pull to right due to bushings need to be changed. Drove away and car still had same issue. Took car to dealership no problems with bushings and alignment done correctly. I had been their customer on & off for about 6 yrs. No more! Pay the extra somewhere else. read more

Purchased 4 tires today. Had a spare tire on. Spare tire requires shortlet lug bolt. Gave instructions to put the spare tire lug bolts in a bag I provided and place bag on passenger seat. Also, I provided 20 new lug bolts and gave instructions to place old bolts in a bag I provided and place in trunk. Upon completion of the wor, I did not see spare tire lug bolts on passenger seat. I inquired and was told that they were in the trunk. I searched the trunk and no lug bolts at all were there. I inquired again and as I expected the spare tire lug bolts as well as the old lug bolts were in the shop. Other then that small SNAFU the service was good. The point I'm trying to make is to inspect your vehicle prior to leaving to insure you have what you need before leaving the premise. Had I not checkEd I would have been in a world of trouble if I needed to use my spare tire. Paying attention to specific instructions is not their best attribut. read more

I was on a road trip traveling from Virginia to Rhode Island and noticed I had low tire pressure. I called this Firestone and the said they would be able to fix my tire right away. It turned out my back tires were in really bad shape. Got 2 back tires and they didn't charge me any labor for it. Ryan has great customer service and I even got to see him deal with a difficult customer (Who was a total D Bag) very professionally. I had the same experience as Jordan Y. My exhaust pipe cracked late on a Friday night, and Firestone was the only place I could find that could see me on Saturday. They told me (1) that the pipe was cracked somewhere that couldn't be welded, (2) that I needed to replace my catalytic converter, too, (3) that that would run me about $1000, and (4) that there was a good chance that in doing the repairs they'd wind up needing to replace the oxygen sensor for another $500. Had a feeling it might not be as bad as they made it out to be, so I went down to A American Muffler on Whalley, where they said they could weld the crack for $60. And they had a good, honest discussion with me about whether I should replace the converter now or wait to see if I pass inspection. So either Firestone was trying to rip me off, or they're terrible with exhaust systems. Take your pick. Oh, and the kicker -- I called a Volvo-specific shop that used to work on my car back up in Massachusetts, and they said that the only way that the price they quoted me could be possible is if they were planning on installing a low-quality converter. So they were trying to lard me up with unnecessary services *and* sell me cheap parts. read more
