To make matters worse, I was told I needed a brand-new starter, when in fact the only issue was a missing bolt -- a basic oversight that raises serious questions about their diagnostic process and integrity. This experience strongly suggests either a lack of technical competence or intentional upselling of unnecessary repairs. These guys are really honest. We were driving home from Rhode Island to Maryland when we hit something on 95 and we heard a horrible metal on metal grinding sound. AAA recommended this Midas. We called and they promised to get us in today as they knew we were far from home. Once we got the car there, they were able to look at it and determined that just a backing plate got pushed out of place. Fixed it and we were on our way in 15 minutes. No charge. I'm positive most other garages would have charged us for something completely unnecessary. Like I said, these guys are honest. Brought my car in for a routine cvt transmission flush as a precautionary maintenance 2016 Nissan rogue with 65,000 miles after the flush the car never ran the same again they did something to the car and now they tell me I have to replace the transmission which is going to cost 6700 dollars. My car was perfect and now it's not the manager Scott Harrison is a scammer because I'm a female and the one who he spoke with I told my spouse and he called them and told them it's their fault and he wanted the owner number in which he refused and my spouse said your lying and he said come and tell me to my face I picked up my car and he told my son to tell his dad that he'll be at the shop late to come down and tell him to his face wanting a confrontation after they are at fault for messing up my car. I brought my car here, they constantly kept saying they'd call back in 30 mins after diagnosing, I had to call about 7 times for them to actually check it. Then when they checked it, they didn't even check what I told them to. After calling the last time they fixed my car in not even a couple hours, which was weird for the job that was being done at the time. He was aggressive the day prior and 12/27 he got physical. It doesn't take a whole garage of mechanics to do the job. Tried getting a solution prior to the assault and asking for PROOF, set this man off. This dude has an attitude problem and has mechanics threatening people with tire irons. We got our vehicle back in worse condition and have not received a refund or anything due to MYSELF calling the police on the shop manager for getting physical and even pushing me. Midas did not give the Midas touch, do not waste your money here. Already contacted corporate and still have heard nothing. I was able to negotiate prices for my VW Jetta. Scott initiated a few services in my Jetta. I purchased my BMW and receiving services here that require an overnight stay. My vehicle was on the lift for multiple extended days and vandalized-likely by a staff member at this location. Upon my confrontation Scott just smiled and couldn't provide a suitable response while haggling next to an in-house green bicycle with training wheels that he had rode at one point. Scott ended up calling a local Autobody specialist to fix the scratch. In addition I also noticed oily marks on my leather door and minor imperfections around my vehicle after services at this unprofessional franchise. To this day I have yet to receive reimbursement for a rental vehicle that was orally negotiated with the manager. Overall, the services were unprofessional and surmounted to a progressively hostile interaction. read more

WICKED EXPENSIVE ! SHOP AROUND ! Our 2007 Volvo V90XC needed an exhaust system. Midas estimated $3,882.96 total with $3,095.96 for parts alone We had the same work completed for only $ 1,734.98 !!!!! C'mon Man ! To his credit the local Midas manager Scott called me to discuss my review. Scott was polite and insistent. Unfortunately I lost my cool at Scott's string of respectful excuses. Scott said that they were so high because they were quoting brand new Volvo parts ( for a 14 year old car with 160,000 miles. " How does that explain your labor charge being double the competition, I retorted. " Scott asked a lot of questions and never apologized for his ruinously high estimate. We did agree that I would not be back. That is fine with me since I can no longer trust them. read more

Had a part replaced and they charged me $300 more then actual Toyota part. (I called Toyota) Called and asked them why it was so much more then any other place and he then said it was also diagnostic fee etc. but it wasn't it was listed as the PART cost. Very disappointed with how I was treated $300 more for autozone and $290 more then Toyota. Definitely took advantage because the labor etc was all listed separately. SAD! read more

Would not recommend this location to anyone especially women. My mom took her car to be checked and was given an estimate of $1,300 for a new radiator. My mom took her car to another mechanic for a second opinion and it turned that nothing was wrong with the radiator, it was a cracked water pump. They only charged her $150.00. I was kind of desperate to tune up my car before the storm, so I found this shop because they take online appointments. The shop itself is honest, easy to find and the people who work there were very friendly. It's a bit out of the way, but it's on a street with tons of mechanics/auto body shops, so that sets them apart. You can't afford to be mean when you have tons of competition. I paid about $60 for an oil change (synthetic) which is about what I expect, and was done in about 75 minutes. I noticed with other customers they did not try to up-sell them on services or make things seem more dire than they were, so I trust them on that level. Normally the level of service in and of itself would get them 4 stars. I just don't understand why the workers would not wear masks in the middle of a pandemic, considering the governor's mandate. Even if you don't want to wear the mask all day, which okay, at least wearing one when interacting with the public should be okay, right? I doubt I can come back here after writing this review, but I subtracted star for the minimal safety precautions (they had hand sanitizer for the front desk, no masks, no sneeze guard). Header: Honest, friendly business. They know cars. They do a great job. They have the lowest prices around. First some background: I have owned a 1998 Volvo S90 since 2006. It is my baby. I began my relationship with Midas of Branford because I wanted to get new brakes and struts. They gave me the lowest quote for the service by at least $200 of anyone I talked to. Money talks. Well, these are the guys who found that a tensioner pully of the timing belt kit installed by SKF Automotive in 2012 had come apart, and advised me to take it back to whoever did the job. They also found a vacuum hose was completely detached. I've been getting EVAP and "System too rich" codes for years and none of my other mechanics have been able to find the problem. Not sure how they missed the vacuum hose that was apparent to the Midas guys on a once-over of the car. All of this was without charge since they were only inspecting the brakes for me. I got the timing belt kit replaced by SKF and came back to Midas for the brakes and struts. They did the whole job in a day, ride feels great, and my brakes don't squeak anymore. The mechanic mentioned that my radiator was leaking, and sure enough, a couple months later, my hot-air stopped blowing. They replaced the radiator for less than I expected it would cost (again, love saving money). Shortly after, the check engine light came on again. They did a smoke test and found a leak and plugged it. No charge. During this they discovered why my steering fluid drains out every 3-4 months. I am getting a new steering rack from them. Once again, not getting creamed by labor charges, and the manager made a point of finding the lowest cost for the part I needed. Check engine light is still coming on, but I am sure they will do something about it without more line-item charges like some places do. They kindly attempted to diagnose the CEL again for no additional charge...but....let's just say the CEL is still on. For difficult to diagnose performance problems with the engine, particularly European cars, it would be better to take it to a specialist, but for routine stuff like radiators, suspension, steering, brakes, and mufflers, they are going to be much cheaper than your dealership. They have 4-5 people available to work on any given day and room for 4 cars in the garage, so they have the ability to do the job today or tomorrow, in one day. I was kindly picked-up and dropped-off in Branford. The manager is clearly respectful of the customer, and has a "thank-you for flying with us" attitude. All work to be performed is clearly explained and quoted. read more

I had a flat tire and needed new tires anyways so I purchased 4 new tires from Midas and had my car serviced on 11/5/22. I decided to also get an alignment on my vehicle at that time. Unfortunately, one of my rims was damaged and needed to be fixed so Midas was only able to do 3 tires and I needed to get the rim fixed before I could get the 4th tire done. I got it fixed and brought my car back on 11/12/22 for the 4th tire and the alignment. I was told it would take about an hour to complete. I had lunch in the area and was surprised that when I drove by after an hour, my car was in the same spot with the donut on. I called Midas for an update and they apologized and stated they hadn't started my vehicle yet and it would take another hour. I was even more surprised when I got a phone call from Midas, not even 20 minutes later, stating my car was finished. I confirmed with them that everything was completed to which I was told it was. When I arrived to Midas I stated that I was confused as to how they completed the tire and the alignment within 20 minutes. I was told that the person who I first spoke to and told me it would be another hour was confused and didn't realize that they had already done the alignment when I had driven by and saw the donut still on. I was confused as I did not think you could do an alignment with a donut on the vehicle but was ensured that it was fine. I left feeling uneasy and decided to call around. I called multiple Firestones and Midas stores in the area, all of which told me that you can not do an alignment with a donut, at which point I realized that I never received my alignment paperwork. I was not far from Midas so I drove back to get it. When I arrived I asked for the paperwork. The man working at the front desk went into the shop area and I see him and another worker talking. I see something print, get crumbled and then he comes back to the front and tells me the printer isn't/wasn't working and that is why I didn't get a print out. The person in the shop comes to talk to me and tells me he can "show me" what they did with the alignment. They then proceed to "show me" the alignment, which took less than 10 mins. Miraculously afterwards they were able to print something, that had the wrong car year, with a before and after alignment diagram. Not sure why the "before" would have been showing that the alignment was off when they stated they did an alignment. The next day I was still frustrated and started asking around to see if anyone knew who the store manager was and who the workers were that I was dealing with. I found out the workers name was Scott Harrison. When I called on Monday to speak to the store manager, it sounded like the same person from the weekend, Scott Harrison, and he stated that he was the store manager. So obviously my complaints about what happened would go nowhere since he is the one who decided to do an alignment on a car with a donut. So, I called corporate and got a case number, was told that I would receive a phone call from the local franchise district manager within 2 business days. Many days passed so I called to check on the status of the case. I was surprised to hear that they called the local store and was told by the workers that I was satisfied with my service. Corporate also said that there was a note in my case stating that the franchise manager had called me that morning and spoke me with and that I also told him that I was satisfied with the resolution to my concern. I did not speak to any franchise manager and never did I express ANY satisfaction with anything that happened at Midas. I paid close to $1000 to have my car served and to this day, have not received the services I have paid for. I am currently looking into other options for further this case as this is unacceptable and potentially illegal to state that a service was provided that was not. read more

Our dealer said we needed new breaks and a couple hundred dollars of other adjustments related to the breaks. We took our car here because we had previously gotten great service on our other car which had a Midas warranty. When we took our new car here, they looked at us like we were crazy, showed my girlfriend how to check your own breaks, and explained that we did not need anything done. After 30 minutes in the shop and no charge, we will definitely be going back for any and all repairs that we need. Saved us hundreds of dollars and were as professional as you can be. I had previously sat in the waiting room and overheard them talking about other repairs. They are honest, fair, and dependable. The mechanic was very knowledgeable and honest taking the time to show me my SUV needed an alignment ( which they don't do )and telling me that my brake pads are good but will need roters when I'm ready. Going to a shop without my husband I always feel I'm going to get ripped off but I didn't. They didn't try to upsell an oil I didn't need. $44.00 for an oil change and a very good diagnostic. Nice and fast. I desperately needed a battery and Advanced Auto was unable to follow through on their installation. They sent me to Midas up the street, and failed to tell me it was going to take a little while. After a mini breakdown because I feared I was going to be late for a meeting, the guy at the desk hurried the mechanic to complete the installation. 10 minutes later I was all set to go and was not charged anything. They even offered to return my old battery back to Advanced Auto so I could pick up my $5 recycling deposit later. I hate car issues, but these guys made it manageable. read more

I got an oil change the other day and I must say, that this is a great place for all car services. The manager, Chris, is polite, professional and very well schooled in all things related to cars. I witnessed Chris manage his shop and aid customers seamlessly. He even filled a customers tires and repaired an plastic oil guard after the shop was technically closed (the shop closes at 5:30 and Chris performed these repairs around 5:45). I will definitively be back for more oil changes and any other car needs that I have. read more

I was extremely happy with the service received at this location. I was able to make my appointment for an promotional oil change online, which was confirmed with an email from Ron. When I brought the car in, it was taken into the bay within a few minutes of my arrival. I had some concerns about a couple of minor car issues, and instead of being subjected to a sales pitch, was given straightforward answers and solutions. The mechanic even told me the tires were okay when my dealership said a few months ago that they were on their last treads and HAD to be replaced (see my Partyka review). He also reattached my damaged splash pan so the undercarriage had some temporary protection until I can get a new one. No extra charges were put on my final bill even though extra time was spent on the car. This place is run by knowledgeable, respectful, and most of all HONEST people. This will be my go-to garage from now on. read more

I've had them do some work on my brakes in the past and been incredibly happy. Today, I stopped by because a screw on my license plate was rust-locked and I broke off the head (and all around just jacked it up).
