These guys are beyond fair, have ALWAYS stepped up to the plate and gone above and beyond any other place I've ever been to. The best way to deal with them is face to face, they are busy, so getting hold of them via phone, is a challenge at times. Just go there, you'll be happier. They have told me several times I don't have to do a major repair, where others would have gouged me. My first time with them was after I was forced to go to Pep Boys over the weekend, and they totally gouged me, as well as seriously screwed up a repair. Todd basically laughed, and showed me what they should have done, he even helped document it for me. I went back to Pep Boys and the dude's face turned bright red. They had to admit that they did it wrong. Thanks Todd. I will always be a loyal customer because of their integrity, and good service. Todd, you seriously ROCK. read more

Up until this last encounter I would have given 5 stars, and unfortunately i had to give 1 because zero stars wasn't an option. I had my car towed on July 17th with an issue with my ignition. Here is it Oct 6th and I stopped by to see what was going on since they never pick up the phone or return calls. He gave me some bs excuse saying he tried to get it going twice and failed miserably and that if he can't get it fixed tomorrow he had someone he could refer me to. As I go to leave I take a look in my car that mind you was in the same spot as it was close to 3 months ago. All of the contents in my middle console and glove compartment were all over the front seats. Now I'm pissed, so I go back inside to ask for the key and told him the condition of my car. He has not a care in the world and tried to say maybe it happened before I got it towed. But wouldn't he know that it looked like that since he tried twice to fix my car?? All he had to do was say he wasn't interested in fixing my car. Clearly my car was no priority to him. read more

I took my car to a different mechanic because I was seeing fluid in the snow wear it was parked. A chain known for tire. They had worked on my car before, and I hadn't had any issues. They replaced the Rack and Pin. Assbly. along with two power steering hose. They also made a recommendation that a gasket and oil pan needed to be replaced. I drove it 8 miles and when I pulled into the Driveway smoke was coming out of the hood. About a 1.5 years ago I had a problem with the drivers seat not latching and staying upright. Tech Auto was recommended and Todd had it looked at and fixed it and didn't charge me anything. So when I had this problem with the smoke I had the car towed in. Todd told me the two power steering hoses were installed incorrectly and fixed that along with replacing all the power steering fluid. He also replaced an oil pressure switch which was wear the oil was coming from not a gasket or the oil pan. The radiator cap was missing and they found it down in the engine and replaced the coolant which was wear the smoke was coming from. I will never take my car anywhere else but to Tech Auto. Todd was HONEST, EFFICENT, AND HIS PRICES were very fair. Since this has happened I've told some people about my experience and I've gotten nothing but positive feedback from people I know that also have their car worked on at #TECH AUTO of Hamden 55 Connolly Pkwy. read more

I brought my Acura TSX in today as I was having issues with my alternator. My grandma highly recommended going to Tech Auto as she's been going for years, along with my brother. I was charged the most honest pricing and they fixed my car the exact same day! Very grateful they fit me in. Previously when I had this issue with my car, a different shop charged me much more than what Tech Auto charged me, and they took much longer to do it. I highly recommend coming here and will definitely be back whenever I need work done on my vehicles. Thanks for the very pleasant experience today working on my car and with my situation. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough. Fair prices and does services with integrity. As a female who navigates car repairs herself, I've gotten my fair share of auto shops trying to swindle, disrespect, and talk down to me for wanting to understand the processes. Todd was so kind, giving me his time and attention despite packed schedules. I ask a lot of questions in order to understand my options and the work being done.Todd clarified each one with transparency and handled my inconsiderate probing about parts sourcing with a patience that I really appreciate. End result was repairs costing under his quoted estimate and done that day. I will be recommending Tech Auto to everyone and taking my business here again. read more

I called Todd at Tech Auto early on a Monday. I needed front brakes and thought I would A. Have to wait a few days and B. It would cost me a good bit. My old mechanic had retired and I was definitely looking for someone reliable and honest. Todd told me to bring the car in and they would take a look at it. I dropped it off around lunch time and they could not have been nicer. I was so surprised to get a call by the end of the day that my car was ready. Now, I was worried about what this fast service would cost as I had been a victim of the chain automotive places before. To my surprise, it was totally reasonable. I had heard such great recommendations about Todd and Tech Auto and they were true. Great service, integrity and nice people to boot! I will be a return customer for my automotive repairs and tell anyone who asks to go to Tech Auto. read more

Came here on the recommendation of the law school list serve and, believe it or not, I still bring my car here, up from NYC, whenever it needs anything. Todd is super nice, and we call him the Einstein of cars, because he is always able to get to the bottom of the issue. Honest (often recommends against doing unnecessary work) and always charges less than we expect (and even less then we have been quoted elsewhere). Has kept our 1998 car running i great shape! read more

Ended up having a slash in my tire after something in the road struck it unexpectedly. The guy at the front desk was very helpful and kind. Not to mention a great sense of humor. Tech auto didn't charge me for the service and had my car back on the road in no time at all. Would highly suggest stopping in whatever your car needs anything! read more

We just moved to Ct from NY and our car started making noises like it needed a muffler. I checked out Yelp for a mechanic close by and saw Todd at Auto Tech has some good reviews. He did a great job on our car, was fast and communicated with us every step of the way. Very reasonable too! read more

I can always count on the help at Tech auto. My problem is always fixed and explained in simple explainable terms. Always a great price and if it isn't I am told. I completely trust tech auto! read more

We needed to have a used truck checked out before purchasing it from a dealership, and we live in NYS. They were able to fit us in within a pretty busy schedule, (we called 2 days before) and gave the truck a good, over-all inspection, answering questions with honesty and good humor. We left feeling confident and bought the truck knowing shortcomings to pay attention to in the future. The mechanics and Todd are wonderful, down-to-earth people that are seem to be in short supply these days. Thank you!! read more

*REVISED: GO TO RICK'S AUTO CENTER INSTEAD!!* ( Its right up the street, fair prices and he is friendly) Firstly, I am not one to write a review based off of one bad experience.. Furthermore i was visiting this establishment based off of good reviews on various online services. However the experience i encountered, my god was an atrocity. I was in a rush and was on a time constraint, so wasting time was not an option. I pulled up to the long driveway up to the establishment and as i turn in i see a car blocking my path parked alongside another car on the opposite side of the street blocking the road speaking through the windows. I proceed to beep my horn to persuade the driver to move along as he IS obstructing traffic. Instead of him moving i am confronted with the car on the opposite side of the road pulling up alongside me asking me if i am going to tech auto. I answer yes, and he proceeds to tell me he is the owner and he is speaking with one of his customers and i had to wait. I was appalled. I told him well i guess i'll be going somewhere else, as i reversed and pulled off. I don't know if he thinks even one customer doesn't matter or if he felt that he could do without the patronage that i was offering but he seemed to not care either way. I am of african american decent and i don't know if he didn't take me seriously because i was black but i got the impression that he didn't value me as a customer because i was a minority. I would hate to think that he would behave in an unfavorable way just because of my ethnicity but i cant help but to feel diminished. Unfortunately i can not even give a fair review on service since the owner deemed it fit to ostracize me from his establishment from the start. I hope this business owner develops a better attitude towards life and peoples individual circumstances in general. He had no idea of what i was going through at all. I could of had an engine on the brink of exploding and in desperate need of service but instead of being considerate and moving he decided to pull rank and be pompous and rude to a new customer. Let me put it simply, go somewhere else! read more

This place is incredible. As a rule I hate auto mechanics because they usually overcharge and treat me like an idiot. But this place is totally different. We made an appt, and the owner was very kind about letting us know when our cars would be ready, giving us a reasonable estimate, and being honest. We went to get oil changes/checks on our cars, and also to see if we needed to do anything to "winterize" after moving from California. I would have needlessly paid tons of money elsewhere, but the owner was honest and told us we didn't need anything other than the oil change. My car needs new tires, and he told me where to go and recommended a good brand. He told my husband that he will need breaks soon (probably spring), but didn't pressure us or try to scare us into doing it now/charging us some crazy fee. We will never go anywhere else! read more

This was by far the best experience I have had at any auto repair shop. We were on the way home from visiting family for thanksgiving and hit some snow, which caused a rattling noise. After the first shop we visited rudely told us they were too busy to honor our appointment we had made, we drove over to Tech Auto. The mechanic was pleasant and instantly knew what the problem was. Quickly got the car in the garage, repaired the heat shield, and filled up our tires. Said there was no charge and refused to let us pay him. Truly great service, and I'd go back in a heartbeat if I need help in the future! Highly recommend. read more

Tech Auto is where to go to get your car fixed. My first experience with Tech Auto was when I was having some whining from my engine. There was a loose belt in my car (this was a recurring problem with my POS Mitsubishi) and they tightened it for me, no charge. That pretty much gave me the feeling they weren't going to try and nickel and dime me. My bad old Mitsu had several other repairs during its short life, and they were all handled quickly and competently at Tech Auto. There was one bit of engine damage my car suffered that was close to totaling it, but Todd managed to fix it up. I haven't been in a while, since I finally bought a new car, but once my warranty is up, they'll be who I bring it to. read more

This is the only garage I have ever been near New Haven. It was recommended to me by several friends. This is a very honest garage. The job is done at a fair price and quickly. I went to Tech Auto a couple of time to change my car's breaks and one of the fuel tank gaskets. They never tried to convince me to fix extras. They do the job you ask for. Highly recommended. read more

The service at Tech Auto is fantastic. I took my car to a dealer and was quoted a long list of "problems" that would have cost most of the value of my 11 year old car. I asked at work for a recommendation for a mechanic and was told, "I trust Todd (at Techo Auto) more than I trust most people on this earth." Quite a strong recommendation, so I had to check them out. I was not disappointed. Todd and his staff were honest, thorough, and recommended fixing only 1 of the list of issues. I ended up paying about 1/4 of the price I was quoted at the dealership. My car still runs great over a year later. It is refreshing to feel like you can truly trust a mechanic shop and know you will receive quality work. I live 40 minutes away, but happy to make the commute for future work. Thank you Tech Auto. read more

Absolutely the best place to ever take your vehicle! In today's world of cookie cutter monopolized companies, this shop will bring you back to honest, respectful, knowledgeable, efficient auto repair. Todd and his crew are by far the best. I was originally referred to Tech Auto by a former mechanic who recommended them highly. Since then, i will take my car nowhere else. read more

Todd is the nicest guy. He's a gem of a person and he always has a customer's best interest in mind. The only two things I wish could change were prices, though I understand they are comparable to all the other Connecticut mechanics. The other things I wish could change was if he would allow the customer to bring their own parts. I understand why it's not allowed but it would make my life easier (and less expensive) if it was allowed! read more

I took my car here several months ago, but only just now thought to write a review after recommending Tech Auto personally to a colleague. My car had been making a loud noise for some time, which the dealership dismissed as nothing important. They were going to charge me money to investigate further. I brought my car to Todd for an oil change, and he agreed to look into the noise issue as well (for free!). He discovered it was a wheel bearing - a major safety issue - and performed the work quickly and at a reasonable price. The noise is now completely gone. Todd was fantastic - I can't recommend him and this shop highly enough! read more

I originally took my car to A-1 Toyota, before I realized I was getting a lot of unexpected problems all of sudden. Every week I was getting a new problem when I never had any issues with my car before moving to Connecticut. I even had the unfortunate event of having my catalytic converter stolen. I brought my car to Tech Auto and they did an amazing job helping me out. Toyota was going to charge me $2600 to replace my catalytic converter along with a host of all sorts of issues that I have a feeling they caused. Tech auto replaced the catalytic converter for me for a substantially lower price and practically saved me from being broke. The people who work here are genuinely good people. Their business model is based on having a good reputation with their customers so that they can continue to do business with them for years. They actually care about fixing your car unlike other service stations around the area. I highly recommend Tech Auto if you truly want a trusted mechanic to work on your car. read more

I would not recommend Tech Auto. I went in for an oil change; and the car didn't start after it was performed. It was the 1st time I paid $500 for an oil change. It turns out the connector to the crankshaft sensor was disconnected, and the crankshaft sensor was missing as well. I wonder what happened? No really I wonder what happened. My car was able to drive to his shop, and unable to drive out after he touched it. That's just terrible. It is my opinion that the owner of this establishment conduct his business professionally. His "due care" was insufficient as my car failed to start after he performed his oil change. Anyway, I towed my car to the closest Nissan dealership. They diagnosed it as the problems I listed above. Somehow the crankshaft sensor was missing, and the other part of the sensor was disconnected. (If anyone can tell me how this happened I would love to know.)Thus the car wouldn't start. Once those problems were addressed, the car miraculously started. One of the mechanics at the Nissan Dealership said, "Whoever did this to your car knew what they were doing." Obviously I don't have any proof that there was malicious intent there; but I wonder still none the less. I can't reiterate this enough, this place is terrible. Top to bottom, it's just bad. Either the owner doesn't have full control of his employees or he is complicit in their incompetence. If you need further details on this place pm me. Please avoid at all cost. Although I wasn't successful in getting any form of compensation from Tech Auto's work; they do have the diagnosis from the Nissan's Dealership. Thus there isn't anything that written in this review that they (the owner) isn't fully aware of or can dispute. Last word please avoid. read more

AMAZING! These people are incredibly honest, professional and courteous. I had a loud rattling noise under my car and they immediately identified it as a loose heat shield under my car. In no time at all they just screwed the shielding back in place and I was set to go. NO CHARGE! He's down to earth and knows that it's not worth conning people out of their money for simple fixes. I also saw how he treated the customers standing in line before me, very friendly and very reasonable. I highly recommend this place. read more

TODD IS THE MOST HONEST MECHANIC I HAVE EVER MET I brought my car to the BMW dealership, for a safety recall, and because the car was running rough, I was told the necessary repairs would cost $4500.00. Doing one of the repairs, would eliminate most of the labor for two of the other repairs, but they still wanted to charge me full labor for all of the repairs. I took the car out of their shop and brought it to Tech Auto. Todd immediately checked the codes on the car, and showed me the results; not only were some of the repairs not needed, but BMW's prices for the needed repairs were ridiculously high. BMW wanted to have my car for a week, Todd had the car 1 day. I just picked up the car, IT RUNS PERFECTLY, and the bill was only $1600.00. This is the 2nd time that Todd has saved me from the dealerships; about 6 years ago, a Ford dealership told me that my van needed a new engine, for around $3000.00. Todd checked out the van, fixed it, and I paid less than $500.00 (I still have the van). I can't say enough about Todd's honesty, reliability, and knowledge. Do yourself a favor, and go to Tech Auto, you'll be happy that you did read more

These guys are fast and accommodating. Can't stress how important it is to have a mechanic you can trust. I don't know what the hell is up with that one negative review, but I'm a minority and they treated me just fine. I will say that it can be cold in their office if you're going to wait there for them to do an oil change in the winter. So bring a coat. read more

Being a customer of Tech Auto, rather than going to the local Toyota dealership, has saved us hundreds of dollars a year, no joke (and without any loss in performance or safety for our aging Highlander). Todd the owner is a great person, extremely fair and honest, wise and knowledgeable. He seems to know everyone in New Haven, and has some great stories to tell, if he's not too rushed. Runs his business the way I wish every business was run, honestly and humanely. A real gem. read more

Very knowledgeable and honest technicians. Had a loose and rusty battery terminal and the tech replaced it at a very reasonable price. When I left, the radio wouldn't work, so I went right back and was told the radio fuse had become loose. Tech fixed it at no extra charge. If this place was trying to rip me off they would have, but were honest about the problems and sent me away in an unusually good mood after going to an auto repair facility. I will be back! read more

I was recommended to Tech Auto through a friend who has known Todd for years. My friend knew Todd's father years ago. I thought I was getting VIP treatment from Todd because I "knew someone." But by reading these reviews, it looks like everyone gets the same treatment! My wife and I always buy used cars with low mileage. We save a lot of money doing so. In order to do that we need a great mechanic who is competent and reasonably priced. Todd always does a great job, does not do unnecessary work, and gets the job done quickly. I recommend him to everyone I know that needs a mechanic. read more

This is a great shop. I've apprenticed in a shop and I've moved lots of times: this is the kind of shop I like to seek out and I look forward to visiting (though I don't necessarily enjoy the occasions that bring me there). My Subaru WRX has loudly squeaked from what I thought was the timing belt for over a year. I have brought it to 4 different auto shops to fix the issue, each place charged me 30-40$ to tighten the timing belt (one of which was a Subaru dealership) but the squeaking continued. After talking with Todd from Tech Auto, he immediately diagnosed my squeaking as an issue from the accessory belt. A quick drive over to his shop and a 5 minute fix rectified the issue that has been annoying me for a year! I will definitely be taking my car to Tech Auto in the future. read more

Todd is a true gentleman. I was driving my 2008 Audi A3 up from NYC to Boston when suddenly I started getting a hissing sound when pressing the gas, along with weakened acceleration. It was already after 5pm, and I Yelped around for an open service station nearby and found Tech Auto with its great reviews. I called, and Todd answered and told me he'd already sent his mechanics home for the day, but that I should come by and he'd take a look. When I arrived he checked under the hood and diagnosed an exhaust leak, which was inhibiting the turbo charger. He told me I was safe to get to Boston but advised me to leave the windows open to avoid fumes accumulating inside. Then he sent me on my way, refusing to take any payment. As cold as it was to drive another 2.5 hours on a february night with the windows down, I was so grateful to Todd for staying late on my behalf and giving me the confidence to finish my trip. It's clear to me from the other reviews here that many others have benefitted from his wisdom and generosity, and he deserves all the success in the world. read more
