Went today and loved the Rob Haynes band! Played 50s and 60s and actually sounds like Elvis and Jerry Lee. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. For all concerned about how hot it was.. I spoke with Neil. I will never purchase food from this establishment again. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get a to go order, it was wrong, poor quality, and "we ran out of what you ordered". I have frequented this establishment in the past and have never experienced what I experienced tonight. I travel for work and was told about this business. I entered tonight and stood at the bar waiting to be served only to be addressed by a hostile employee. Me and my partner reluctantly ordered a drink. I said to the bar tender," I know you must be having a rough night " because it was so busy. He snatched our drinks and poured our drinks out and refused our service after me saying I know you're busy. When we asked why is he refusing us service he said because he wanted to. When we asked for the manager he said he was the manager. We decided to just leave this establishment. This is unacceptable behavior coming from staff. Whatever happened to costumer service. I will be escalating this event. This so call manager was hostile from the start. It appeared to be racist and biased. There were several consumers around complaining about the same employee. I'm so mixed on how to rate this venue, but I actually believe I should try to some sort of reasonable recommendations. We were greeted by a nice lady and security at the door. The cover charge on Thursday is $10, and I arrived at 7 pm. There are multiple tables reserved so you can sit yourself to whatever is available. Our waiter came over with the menu and gave a few minutes to look it over. We told her it was our first time , and if she had any suggestions on food. She explained that she hadn't eaten anything on the menu, but a lot of guests ordered pizza and barbeque items. She also stated they were out of Steaks and Onion Rings. I asked if anything they were out of anything else. She said not that she was aware of. They have 2 options on the menu for fries. She explained that the house fries were freshly cut and made to order but would be an up charge. I asked if the tamales were made with beef and no pork, she said she believe its all beef. I explained we dont eat pork and she confirmed with kitchen it was no pork. We ordered the tamales, smoked turkey sandwich, brisket sandwich, 2 orders of house fries, catfish platter, long island, green tea shots and double shot of jack. Few minutes later she returned to say they were out of brisket. We ordered the honey gold wings instead. I also told her the Catfish basket would be a to go order. The smoked turkey, honey gold wings, house fries and drinks arrived. A few minutes later the hot tamales arrived. The smoked turkey was maybe thick sliced turkey lunch meat and heated on a flat top griddle. Nothing about the turkey was smoked. It had a sour taste in addition. The hot tamales were covered in chili and cheddar cheese. I've attached the menu that doesn't list Smothered or Covered hot tamales. The whole wings were pretty good in flavor, taste but quality/size was extremely small. The up charge freshly cut made to order fries were raw and undercooked. They had the texture of carrots. We sent the smoked turkey back and house fries. I asked what on the menu was fresh? Is the Catfish fresh? She said no, I told her to cancel that order. She said the pizza is fresh and made to order. I ordered the vegetables pizza. It arrived with no seasoning, no taste, vegetables raw, large sliced tomatoes and just not worth even eating. I didn't send it back. At this point we realize this place is GREAT for music, vibe and drinks ONLY! Sadly I would rate them a 5 based off the DJ but most people eat, dance, and drink. Came here on Thanksgiving Day since it was the only option we could find in town, passing through on our way to Texas. The Thanksgiving dinner option was a good deal- $20 for a big platter of food, but it was lukewarm and had been sitting out in a buffet. They also ran out of cranberry sauce. It would have been better if it had been hot. When we walked in we didn't see a hostess and looked confused so one of the locals told us we could sit anywhere. We had to wait a few minutes before someone came over to take our order, but they were prompt in getting us our food. Thé pumpkin pie was also subpar and had more of a chunky texture. read more

My first visit to Neil's was a good one with lots of friends from St. Jude for a work party with my sweetheart. The band was great and the typical pub grub and beverages were pretty much as expected but the service was great. Neil's Music Room is billed as a performance & event venue. Their tout live music, cool cocktails & great food with hot home cooking. Their menu is offered Monday through Friday from 11:00am till 9:00pm with breakfast anytime you want it from 11am till 3:00am. They're known for their World Famous Onion Rings (Made the top 100 list in America) and alsi known for the Fat Guy Cheeseburgers and I our homemade pizza. They have regular specials Meat and Two - $7.95, Meat and Three - $9.95 & Veggie Plate - $8.95. They are known for lots of great live music and while it used to be VERY smokey in the past it's a smoke-free place with a nice deck outside as well. We had a large group (12) that ended up there because it has a dog-friendly patio. They have a band on Fridays (and perhaps other nights), which makes this a popular place. By around 8, it was full. That may appeal to the younger crowd, but I'm not sure they have the staff to adequately serve the clientele. We ordered drinks and I ordered onion rings at that time. The drinks came out in a reasonable time but there was a considerable wait for my food as well as everyones else's. The onion rings, to be fair, were possibly the largest I'd ever had. But they arrived cold. At $11, they was pricey, but so big/many I couldn't eat them all - and believe me - this is unusual. Four others had the same (cold) experience, with different dishes including a pizza! Only 1 person received a warm sandwich (I don't think any of the others ordered food). We discussed sending our plates back to be warned, but didn't want to suffer another wait. We left after more than 2 hours of similar service - even our tabs incurred a hefty wait. read more

This review is based on Neil's burger alone as far as food here goes. I have not ventured one bit past a cheeseburger here for a few specific reasons. 1. This is hands down top 3 burgers I have had in my life. It is better than Huey's, BGR, Five Guys, Top's, and anyone else you can compare to here in Memphis. Please let me know and I'll go try it. 2. It's never really busy enough when I am there to ease my sense of food movement or lack of. I'm really strange about a good flow of food coming from a kitchen. Call me crazy, I don't care, but if you aren't selling a bunch of food then it's not being prepped often or turned over in the coolers and lines. 3. It's kind of little expensive for bar food. $14 meat and cheese plate. $6 basket of fries? $12 chicken finger basket? At the same time a 10 oz ribeye is $13??? What does that say about the steak? Anyway 4 stars on the burger. I refuse to eat much else based on my strangeness and the fact that I can't stand cigarette smoke and it smells like old dirty ashtrays in there. I remember Neil's well. It was at Madison and Mclean. Back in my Rock-Roll days, I actually performed there a few times. It was just an old building with that special Memphis vibe. This is my first time to this location. I just didn't get the same feel here. And there were no memories. It's just a strip mall in yuppie Memphis. It's a big spot, and I'm sure they turn up the music at night, but I wish I could go back to Neil's one time the way it was 20 years ago. Plus, I found it strange to have exposed ductwork under a dropped ceiling. I have never seen that before. It looks ridiculous. Like they're trying to do the exposed ceiling and the black tile drop ceiling at the same time. All I wanted was that damn burger. It was damn good too. And did you know, tomorrow they're having free burgers and beer? The burger did impress, but those onion rings were phenomenal. I don't brag about onion rings too often, but they were special. They were sliced thick and dipped in great batter with a little crunch to it. Fried at the right temperature with clean tasting oil, for just the right amount of time. It was a good lunch. The Mexican pizza was friggin great too! 12/29/17 I'm just gonna edit rather than update. I'm also changing from 4 stars to 5. Salisbury steak was definitely cooked in house, as was the gravy. Mashed potatoes came from a farm-not a factory. Just the way I like 'em. Green beans had some substance to them unlike canned beans. I'm sure they were fresh. Had bacon in them too. As a long time customer I hate to write this review. I will never again eat in a place where the kitchen help blows his nose and wipes his hands on his apron again. If this happened in my view once I could overlook it but as I have seen it several times, I can not order anything from there again. when mentioned the ownership seemed to think it is my problem not his. Went here for lunch a couple of times recently. Haven't been here since they moved from Midtown. Both times, we had similar experiences. The 1st visit, I had spaghetti, butter beans, and broccoli. The portions sizes were huge, and the flavor of the spaghetti was superb. Some of the best I've ever had at a non Italian restaurant. On the 2nd visit, I ordered the Salisbury steak, baked beans, and slaw. The portion size of the Salisbury steak was quite small. But, the flavor was fantastic. And the beans were superb. Be prepared, however, if you go for lunch during the week, it takes a while. Service was always with a smile, but was quite slow. Same great Neil's, new location. After a fire at their midtown location, Neil's recently relocated to Quince/Yorkshire area shopping center. The bar is a great size for large parties, and has somehow retained the same feeling as the old bar, with a divide between the bar area, and the dining tables and pool tables. The old shuffleboard table (while singed in the fire) is still usable and displayed in the front window. The menu is unchanged, with old favorites like fried mushrooms with horseradish sauce, and burgers, steaks, and grilled chicken sandwiches with mediocre fries. It is a 21-and-up bar with smoking, though families are allowed during Sunday brunch. A jukebox provides great music options and keeps things moving. Several flat screen televisions show different games, and keep bar patrons happy. Ample parking in lot shared by Las Delicias and MemFish. read more
