No compassion and expensive. Went to him from the church we attended together in a time of need and left crying. 0 stars

Dr. McLeod is brilliant. In dentistry, he is a genius and an artist. I've been seeing Dr. McLeod for 8 years. I had avoided the dentist out of shame. I was embarrassed that I'd let my mouth and teeth get in bad shape. It's a self defeating reason not to take care of oneself. Anyway, a friend HIGHLY recommended Dr. McLeod and so I made an appointment. I needed plenty of work done, so I embarked on a journey with Dr. McLeod and his team and it didn't take long for me to consider myself part of a family. Yes! I said it. I think of my dentists as family! Lol. Mary and Sandy make sure that I keep up with what's needed and I trust Dr. McLeod with my mouth (and life tbh). Last year I had an injury that knocked out several teeth and damaged my upper arch. It was devastating. Dr. McLeod dug in and started me on the 17 month journey to recovery. I fell and knocked out several of my upper teeth. It was a nightmare. Through the upper denture...dental implants, and finally a bridge. Dr.McLeod guided me...and now I have a better smile than I did before. I cannot recommend Dr. Mcleod enough! Seriously, our teeth are the anchor to our face. They aid us with eating abs nourishing our body....take care of them and let Dr.McLeod and his team help you. read more

Have I not written a review for McLeod yet? How is this possible This doctor is extremely talented, as well as thoughtful and amusing. As great as his personality is, the most important thing is his extreme ability and perfect, dare I say, skill. He is sassy, and I love that. He is also extremely kind, intelligent and honest. He's been my regular dentist for around a year now and sort of my therapist He is wise ppl! I recommend him to ppl all of the time and you all are no exception. read more

Dr McLeod is the epitome of the Bible verse: Titus 3:8 The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. He pays attention to all details. As an educator I appreciate that he explains the reasoning, the chemistry and how the technology that he uses supports creating the best fit for the work he is doing. He truly uses technology to improve his practice down to the precision of the use of anesthesia practice. I appreciate that he calls to follow up on how my family is doing after treatment. I love that I get to choose my background music And so appreciated is the cleanliness of the entire office. Mary at the front is terrific to stay in touch about appointments and Sandra (?) is very caring. She won't let you leave without making sure all is right. We have been going to a dentist for years that does not match most of these descriptors. I've stayed with her because with a decent size family and living paycheck to paycheck the cost is much less. Dentistry has felt like a bit of a luxury. This experience has been helpful in my thought process. read more

Mere words simply do not do justice to how wonderful Dr. McLeod is. I feel privileged to be his patient for over 20 years. Everything he does, he does right the very first time. Such passion for his work! His dentistry truly lasts a lifetime. I recently decided to have him straighten my teeth through the Invisalign system, and I could not be happier. I have a tricky bite issue, and Dr McLeod has worked tenaciously with Invisalign to give me a perfect smile and a corrected bite. Seriously, he makes you feel as if you were his only patient! His staff is incredible, friendly, always on time. I thank God that we are so blessed to have Dr. McLeod. (And his poetry is incredible...it will make you emotional!) Thank you, Dr. McLeod! read more

Doctor McLeod is the best dentist in LA. I had a bad luck before with a dentist who put me through a lot of pain with a crown. When the crown finally fell out( after 3 months of pain) I was given Dr. McLeod's info from my friend. Dr. McLeod spent over 2 hours cleaning my old crown, disinfecting it, and making sure it fits. I had another crown put in yesterday, and I don't have any pain. Dr.McLeod spends his time perfecting his work until the patient is satisfied. His staff is very friendly, and for people like me, who have limited finances, they work with me, tell me ahead how much I'll be paying, and get my permission before Dr.McLeod does anything. I'm really grateful for this guy and his staff. read more

Dr. McLeod is literally the very BEST dentist I have ever had in my entire life, and I honestly can't imagine ever going to another dentist again. Once you experience the best in his field of dentistry, why would you want to settle for anything mediocre? I had a serious situation that needed immediate attention on a day that Dr. McLeod's office was closed. A good friend of mine was able to reach him and arranged for an emergency office visit at short notice. This was my first time ever seeing Dr. McLeod, so I went to go meet him at his convenient West Hollywood location. Since I was a newbie, I wasn't sure where to park. This courteous Doctor went above and beyond and was kind enough to meet me outside the building to direct us where to go! It is evident upon meeting Dr. McLeod for the first time that he takes pride in his profession, has a passion for what he does, and genuinely CARES about his patients well-being. I have never met a more honorable dentist. I always experience mild anxiety when visiting any dentist. I think I have a slight phobia of some sort... My heart starts beating fast, I get nervous, my muscles start to tense, and I am on the verge of panic... The moment Dr. McLeod introduced himself to me I felt an automatic sense of comfort. He is the consummate professional with a warm smile, friendly disposition, and a hilarious sense of humor. I was extremely impressed with the cleanliness of his charming office and the high-tech equipment he uses in his dental practice. I'm such a big baby when taking X-Rays because I have the WORST gag reflex. I was starting to panic... Instead of becoming impatient with me, like most dentists have done to me in the past, Dr. McLeod worked with me, gave me explicit instruction, and talked me through the process until I was comfortable enough to proceed. The X-Rays were done digitally, which made them ready to be analyzed in a jiffy. He assessed the situation and immediately got right to work. He is very thorough when explaining absolutely every little detail with your situation, ensuring that you are aware of what he is doing and why he is doing it. Dr. McLeod took care of my situation in an expedient and thorough manner, he was attentive, gentle, and went above and beyond what most dentists would do. He even chatted it up with my daughter for a bit and made her laugh... I highly recommend Dr. McLeod for all your dental needs! If you are looking for someone who truly cares about your dental health and you as a person, please look no further! I understand that no one "likes" going to the dentist, but I assure you, this Doctor will definitely change your perception! Even after all his great care, he followed up with me via email to make sure I was doing okay... How many dentists do YOU know does that? I sure didn't! He truly goes the extra mile, and I am so very appreciative of that! read more

Dr. McLeod is the best of the best. I wish I had been going to him YEARS ago... it could've saved me so much repair work. I had been going to Roxbury dental and all my crowns are ill fitting and giving me problems now. But I guess you don't know a good dentist from a bad one until you've had a good one. Live and learn, eh? After my very first appointment, the Dr text messaged me to make sure I felt OK. (I never answer phone calls, OK?) Dr. McLeod is passionate, empathic and very talented at what he does. After getting a very painful tooth taken care of, we straightened out my bottom teeth in a mere 9 months with just a small, custom-designed device. He and his staff explain everything thoroughly and don't employ any fear tactics. I feel like I am in good hands, and that the work I am getting done is QUALITY. You'll never forget an appointment because you can get text and email alerts. Also, he's a fantastic storyteller. Can't be mad about that. ps Thanks Gigi! read more

I went to Dr. McLeod recently for a preliminary consultation and an extraction and a bone graft (in preparation for an implant) on the recommendation of other Yelp reviewers. This was literally the most pleasant trip to the dentist I've ever had. If you can imagine having a tooth taken out of our mouth, bone graft placed, and gums sewn back up, and still coming out feeling like you've had a good time...well, let's just say the guy's got a rare gift...Dr. McLeod's great personality and sense of humor and the friendliness of his staff made me feel right at home from the get-go. I was extremely impressed with his assessment of my teeth, and the detail with which he explained the procedures. And, most importantly, I was impressed with the precise job he did on my extraction. He did such a clean job taking out the tooth that afterward I didn't even need pain killers or antibiotics - and this was one hell of a big molar. Overall, I can't say enough positive things about Dr. McLeod's work, his personality, his office staff, and the experience as a whole - I have found my new permanent dentist here in LA! read more

Dr. McLeod is the best. I met Dr. McLeod at a dental conference this past month in Orange County. I am dental student in the Los Angeles area and was invited to attend this conference. I heard Dr. McCleod speak at the conference and I thought what he had to say was amazing. At the reception for the conference, I bit into a piece of pizza and my front tooth cracked. This tooth was previously bonded together from a basketball accident. I was sitting at a table full of dentist that were close by (within 20 minutes) and none of them offered to fix it for me. I went up to Dr. McCleod and asked if he knew anyone in the area. Without hesitation he offered to make the hour drive to his office and fix it for me that Friday night. A classmate and myself followed him to his office that night where he opened up his office and fixed it for me. Dr. McCleod is one of the most genuine, caring dentist I have ever met. He took the time to make sure that my tooth looked great after restoring it. The first shade he selected he didn't like and took the time to change shades so it blended with my natural tooth so nicely. I am amongst dentists and dental students all the time and these professionals have a hard time seeing which tooth was fixed because he did such a great job. I would recommend him to anyone. Not only did he do a great job at fixing my tooth (and yes I critiqued his every step being a dental student) but he did it with a passionate caring heart. He made me feel so relaxed and welcome at his office. You can see the passion this man has for dentistry and it shows with his patient interaction and with his work. Stop looking for other dentists. Dr. McLeod's work on my teeth has always been perfectly done. He and his staff are very friendly people who have always made me feel relaxed and safe. Being in a dentist office is not easy! But his office personnel know this and have a wonderful attitude about them that takes a lot of the apprehension away. Over the years I had the pleasure referring my clients and friends to Dr. McLeod. I also referred one of my employees (Amit) who had horrible teeth situation and Dr. McLeod and his team did a wonderful job for him. Thank you guys. Keep it up. Avi BD read more

I would like to start off by saying I received no compensation/discount for this review because it will be so fabulous I know that will be questioned. Put simply, Dr.McLeod is hands down the best at what he does. I came from out of town scouring many websites to find a suitable dentist for the extensive work I needed done and was incredibly nervous about getting the chicklet-like veneers so common to Los Angeles. I began with an initial free consultation where he examined my mouth and teeth in it's entirety and was incredibly knowledgeable and kind in explaining why I needed every procedure and in answering my (many) questions. He also was honest, telling me the bare minimum of what work he would have done on his own daughter versus what could be done later or wasn't necessary. Dr. McLeod provided me first and foremost, with the most beautiful set of not only veneers but TEETH I have ever seen. He provided me with a full set on top and they look completely natural (what I was most concerned with). I came back to college without telling anyone and my close friends mentioned to me how fantastic my teeth looked, but had no idea why. He also performed eleven fillings for me (yes, eleven I have terrible teeth and a bad grinding problem). I am a total baby about pain, and I can honestly say this was completely painless. His right hand (wo)man- Sandy, was an integral part of this and also did a fantastic job. I never imagined in my life that I would enjoy going to the dentist. But after my (many) sessions getting my various procedures done, I got to know Dr. McLeod and the staff very well and can say from multiple experiences that every one has been fantastic, as I just finished my final one. Everyone is so friendly and passionate about you having the best experience possible. Should you have any problems, they are quick to let you in the next day to get it fixed without charge. Additionally, I received multiple calls from Dr. McLeod himself the night after visits where I had gotten extensive work done to check up on how I was doing. He gave me his personal cell phone number on the first visit as well should I need to contact him first after hours. His prices are reasonable - INCREDIBLY - reasonable for the area. However, the work he performs is quite truly, the Rolls Royce of dentistry. As an ode to this, he only accepts four patients a day to ensure he is giving each patient the time and meticulous care they deserve. My only tip regarding pricing is to go early and try to find parking somewhere other than the parking structure under the building. I know there is a close lot nearby that charges around $10. If you park beneath the structure, you will pay around $33 + tip for any visit that is an hour or longer. I never realized how bad my previous dentists were until I visited Dr. McLeod. I will never let another dentist touch my teeth again. Do yourself a favor and book an appointment with him the next time you are seeking dental work. You can thank me later. :) read more

I suffered my wisdom teeth for 15 years longer than I should have (OK, that makes me sound old... they came in early!) so when I moved back to LA and plucked up the courage, I knew I was in safe hands with Dr. McLeod and his team. I was given a comprehensive treatment plan that covered and prioritized all the things I should explore having done. Everything was carefully explained to me: how it works; why it works; what's the latest or plain old safest option for things like a bite guard. Check; Crowns. Check... Look, no one's thrilled about seeing the dentist but if you want an incredibly kind, attentive, skilled dentist, this is your guy! After treatment, he calls you to make sure you're OK. Very professional, skillful and kind. I came here for several years, and hopefully will be able to again once I'm back in a steady job. The negative reviews do have a bit of a point: 1.) This office is not cheap. I had a very cushy health insurance plan at my old job, and even with that I'd still have to pay about $50 for each cleaning after insurance (plus the $25 copay, so about $75 total). Now that I'm shopping around for cheap freelancer's insurance, no dental plan I can afford would cover anywhere near what he charges. Rebuttal: He does a great job, and good things cost money (it's across the street from the Soho House--that should be a clue). Plus, if you've got a good enough insurance plan to bear most of the burden, the cost might not really matter to you (in years past it was totally worth an extra $50 to be seeing a dentist I knew was a class act). 2.) He doesn't shy away from recommending things to you. He'll give you a document of suggested procedures, and even if you're like me, growing up out of a decade of now completed teenage orthodontia, he'll still have recommendations for you. Rebuttal: I'm a pretty big doormat, and even I have never had any trouble politely declining (or just blowing off) his suggestions, due to me being poor. They'll run the cost through your insurance too, so you know what you'd be on the line for should you decide to take him up on it. Conclusion: I'd highly recommend Dr. McLeod to anyone with the money to pay out of pocket, or a good enough dental plan to help defray the costs. I'll be back as soon as possible. It really has the "long-time family doctor" vibe there, and he really earns your loyalty. read more

I came to Dr. McLeod's office needing remedial work. I had stopped seeing my former dentist after he had some health problems. I needed old filings and crowns removed and replaced. We have begun a program of getting my mouth in top shape. The only thing good enough for Neil is perfect. I am paying more than I was before, but I am interested in a long term result and feel that it is well worth the price. I don't want to have bad teeth later in life, and I surely do not want to be drilled on as an elderly patient. I think it is best to do the job once. Nine months ago I asked him what he thought about my lower front teeth that had gotten horribly crooked after I turned 50. He said that he could straighten them without pulling any teeth or braces. I still have 9 more months to go, but the device that he fitted me with has worked like magic. The teeth already look natural, but we are going for perfect. I am 100% satisfied. read more

After dealing with horrible dentists through my health insurance, I was fed up. But knowing how difficult it was to find a "good" dentist, I started on Yelp. I found Dr. McLeod's information and figured the good reviews were worth a shot. Dr. McLeod is a true professional who loves his profession. While getting my root canal therapy, I felt very relaxed because every step along the way, Dr. McLeod lets you know what to expect. My experience with Dr. McLeod was excellent from start to finish. Because of less than favorable experiences with other dentists over the years, I often find myself anxious - especially when I have to transfer to a new dentist. But on the glowing recommendations of some trusted friends, I made an appointment with Dr. Mcleod and have never looked back. I recently found that I had to have a crown replaced from a root canal tooth to address decay etc. To be honest, I had to resist the urge to flee at the mere thought of anything remotely connected to my many root canals. Thankfully, Dr McLeod squelched all anxiety from the moment he approached the situation. It was also refreshing to have a dentist who's sole purpose during the visit was to attend to the problem within my mouth, and not the mouths of four other patients simultaneously waiting in a dental "assembly line." It was a new experience for me, and I must say that I enjoyed it. Yes, you read correctly. I actually enjoyed a dental experience! Dr. McLeod and his staff display meticulous attention to detail. I enjoyed a feeling of uncharacteristic calmness in the chair that I'm sure was a direct result of the good doctor's expertise and reassurance. He takes great pride in his work and approaches it with all the passion of an extremely accomplished artist. Every aspect of the work is discussed and if something is left out, he is always open to anything you bring to his attention. The front desk and other office personnel are always kind and patient. Dr. McLeod's assistant Sandy is wonderful and highly knowledgeable about all things dental. Those attributes coupled with her kindness add to the reassuring feeling that you are in good hands. Darleen, the hygienist gave me one of the most gentle yet thorough teeth cleaning I have ever experienced. I am not usually one to write a review, but I made an exception in the case of Dr. McLeod, not only because he is truly exceptional, but also for the sake of those who may be as anxious as I once was. If you are delaying your dental work or simply trying to ignore it because of unpleasant experiences in the past, please take the time to visit Dr. McLeod. I assure you that you will find him to be everything you have been seeking in a dentist. Pros: Professionalism, personal attention, cutting edge equipment, expertise, his excellent collection of music along with all his other artistic proclivities, and last but not by any means least, the doctor's delightful sense of humor. Cons: None. All positive so far. read more

One Sunday afternoon I was flossing and in an instant there went my old composite fillings. Prior to this (for a few years) I was having issues with sensitive teeth and every time I went to the dentist they would "drill and fill" and say that "this should do it." and if it did not, I would need one or more root canals. Nice. Unfortunately the sensitivity never truly went away and I avoided the dentist for a 4 years. I made the big decision to look for a new dentist. I literally stumbled upon Dr. McLeods website and reviews and decided to call him up. The offices are sparking clean and the equipment is state of the art. The entire staff are friendly and super knowledgable in what they do. On the first visit Dr. McLeod meticulously looked through my mouth and teeth, noting all findings. I needed two crowns but not a root canals because Dr. McLeod went in and removed all of the decay that other dentists had missed and just patched. As much as i dreaded "major work" being done this ended up being no big deal! I was very comfortable through the entire procedure and after. I appreciate everything that Dr. McLeod and his staff did and they made it clear that they want each patient to keep their own teeth healthy for life. read more

HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE!!! A Total CON MAN. I felt I was in a used car dealership and not a dentist's office. The person is extremely pushy and just wants your money as quickly as possible. Here's what happened when I went to his office. I needed 2 root canals and have a tooth missing, so an implant. I saw reviews of this person on google so went there. Friendly behavior at first and looked like he was a nice person. Then they take X-rays of my teeth and he starts talking about root canal. I already knew that so I was like OK, lets do it. Check out the prices he quoted me. Mind you I have Aetna PPO dental insurance. He tells me for root canal, post and Crown the whole thing would cost me upwards of $4600 EACH ($1800 root canal, $800 post, $2000 crown). I was SHOCKED. I haven't gone to a dentist in a long time but 4600??? Something didn't add up here. He also said he's will give me a whole breakdown of his services and how much they would cost. For 2 root canals and 1 implant and 10 other things he added which apparently were VERY ESSENTIAL for me, the cost came close to $30K. Are you kidding me??? 30,000 DOLLARS ??? His reasoning - After looking at your X-rays, looks like your last dentist hasn't done a good job. I'll have to redo all of it. WOW.. really? CON ARTIST Flag. I told him I have to think about this cause I don't think I can afford this much money. Here's where the PUSHY Salesman attitude starts. He kept on and on about how I have to get this done immediately and how he cares about me and would like to treat me like a son... bla bla bla. I smiled and got out of there, not even making another appointment even after his equally pushy receptionist Mary kept on making sure I come back in like 2-3 days and also to pay them first for this consultation and x-rays, because their policy is to take money upfront and then they send it to insurance company. After getting out of there (Thank God), I spent some time online and got a couple of other dentists with 5 star reviews. and got a quote. For 2 root canals and implant with my insurance I was quoted close to $3K ($800 root canal, $200 post, $800 crown). After insurance deduction was close to $500 per tooth. As for me I'm NEVER EVER going back to this person again in my life. If you go to him, divide his cost by average 4-5 times and you'll get the real number of what other equally good or even better dentists charge out there. read more

Here's the bottom line: He was very kind and helpful but regardless of a few years or many years of experience I think more time and consideration should have been taken. It was the sort of alarmist attitude and very quick jump to a conclusion, that turned out to be incorrect, that prompted me to give a negative review. Take this as you will, many other people seem to really like him. For those interested in my response to Dr. Mcleod's post, feel free to read on. And sorry for the long post again! To clarify a few things, I do not recall mention of decay under the filing as well, there was from what I recall as you said significant decay on the root itself - which turns out there was none at all, nor was there decay under the crown as you mention. As I also expressed in my review I was aware that only 1 of the roots of the tooth was filled due to such sever calcification on the 2 unaffected roots that the root canal specialist after a lot of time and effort, decided it was indeed best to leave the unaffected roots in tact as he was very worried about cracking the tooth in the process in which the tooth would then have to be removed. There simply seems to be 2 schools of thought on this and that's totally fine that you are of the other. I have had another dentist assess that this was a wise decision by the specialist (who had no association or affiliation with the specialist mind you). Additionally the specialist I went to see was the original specialist who I trusted and has a guarantee on all his work, so I think my assessment to return to him to address the issue was a fair one. What concerns me is how quickly Dr. Mcleod jumped to a conclusion and how there was no effort made to contact the dentist I have been going to for the past 16+ years (which I told him about as well) in order to obtain any additional charts or do any other research on my dental history. I was in the chair for MAYBE 20 minutes and I sincerely feel that a little more time and careful consideration could have been made. Like I said in my review, I did NOT get any work done by him and cannot attest to his level of skill and artistry which I'm sure he's probably quite good at. I am just very glad that I got not only a second opinion from my root canal specialist, but from another dentist as well. I also waited several months before posting to this review to be sure that these additional opinions held up and they did. I have not experienced any additional pain and all is well. For me a dentist should be very thorough, thoughtful in this process, and let the patient know of all their options and all possible issues of these options. In this case it was decided very quickly that I had a major problem and the reality of it was that I did not. Simple as that. I appreciate Dr. McLeod's effort to make the situation right but I still feel it important for me to be honest about my own experience. I cannot in good conscience give more than 2 stars based on my own experience, I'm sorry. read more

I remember clearly beign asked to proceed AFTER the numbing shot was given. Nowhere on your estimate do you say that all teeth could be repaired by fillings, but you suggest crowns. Crowns don't last forever either, why not offer implants or dentures as a more permanent solution?? At the other dental offices i've been to, the charge would have been 1 for temporary + lab fee and the rest at the time permanent crown is placed. I thought that is the meaning of payment at a time service is rendered? In regards to cement left behind.. If you as a specialist know this can happen ( and cement was left on both sides of the crown) why not do a quick X-ray (esp. its all digital now) to make sure its all good? read more

Stop looking for another dentist right now. Dr. McLeod will solve all of your problems. Well, at least those that concern your teeth. The day before New Years Eve, I chipped my front tooth more or less in half. I was in Texas flying back to LA on NYE, and I frantically called about 20 offices trying to find someone who could squeeze me in on the holiday weekend. I got off the plane and had a lovely message from Carol from Dr. McLeod's office saying that, yes, they could take me right then and there. No other office said such a thing. I drove right over, and a couple of hours later, my tooth was as good as new. His examination of my mouth was the most thorough I've ever received, and the dental work was phenomenal. This man's experience has clearly served him well. He knows what he's doing and enjoys doing it. He truly does have a gift. I highly, highly recommend him. read more

I went to Dr McLeod, as per a friend's recommendation (and after seeing what an incredible job he did on her teeth!), to have veneers put in on both my top and bottom teeth. Now mind you, (like most dental work), veneers are not a "fun" procedure. But if there is anyone who could make it a comfortable experience, it's Dr. McLeod! This man goes to great length to assure the comfort of his patients and is one of the warmest and most charming people I have ever met. As far as the outcome on my teeth: his work is ABSOLUTELY impeccable! My teeth are stunning, this man has improved the quality of my life GREATLY by giving me the confidence to smile and be proud of my smile! AND he called after procedures to see how I was feeling! Such a personal touch in an increasingly impersonal modern existence. I highly recommend him to ANYONE! read more

He told me to go elsewhere when he figured I wouldn't be able to pay his prices. Unfair and unreasonable treatment from someone I thought was so great. he's really not that great. read more
