The dental hygienist is great but Dr. Silvera will recommend all kinds of unneeded work and I don't trust him at all.

This is the worst dental place. I went there for cleaning, but they said they won't do anything before an exam. So I did an exam there and try to get an appointment for the cleaning. They told me I need all kinds of works done, but they never schedule me for cleaning. But they billed my insurance for cleaning my teeth, which they never did! And they told me my fillings were covered by the insurance, but I got the bill after all the filling done. They told me the insurance didn't cover the white fillings, and they assumed that I don't like silver fillings. Come on, if you don't ask, how would you know if I don't like silver teeth??? And they also over booked a lots!!! I had to wait over an hour to see the dr!!! I will never go back there again!!! read more

Let me start by saying that I have never received anything but the best possible service for myself and my wife over the past few years going to see Dr. Silvera. These rating sites have an upside, in that they make business have a certain level of accountability, as well as highlighting excellent businesses that would otherwise go unnoticed. Unfortunately, the downside is a few bad experiences, or a few angry users can hurt unjustly. Dr. Silvera has never made me feel more comfortable. After a traumatic experience when I was younger, I have run away from dentists, avoiding visits and never finding one I was comfortable with. My wife wasn't much better, (yes, I know, we're a couple of fraidy-cats.) but Dr. Silvera and his staff treated us with respect and presented extremely high levels of comfort throughout every procedure. I would recommend Dr. Silvera to anyone I know, (and have!) without question. I've never waited more than a couple minutes for service, never felt uncomfortable, and have always been treated extremely well. Your experience is extremely important to them, and they do everything they can to put you at ease while doing the best job possible. I have been going to see Dr. Silvera for years. I used to have nightmares before going to see the dentist and wouldn't sleep the previous night. He's a great guy and an even better dentist. I have incredibly sensitive and problematic teeth and have never had a problem with him. His office is always squeaky clean and his staff is great. Dr. Silvera is the best dentist I've ever had in my life! His practice is very well organized. I never have to wait for more than a few minutes. He is very concerned about my comfort during dental procedures, and he does beautiful work. I especially appreciate Dr. Silvera's care for my holistic dental health. He will alert me that I may need to replace an old filling within the next year, or that I need to increase preventive actions to avoid a crown. I see him at least twice a year, and there are no surprises. In fact, Dr. Silvera is more of a perfectionist than I am; he has returned a crown to the lab because it didn't match my teeth EXACTLY, and he even drove over to the lab with me to work together with them to make the right match. Best of all is Dr. Silvera's kindness and caring. He puts his soul into his work, and makes every effort to meet the needs of his patients. My teenage sons love him, too, and never object to going to the dentist because they know they will get their dental treatment in a pain-free, personalized, professional environment. Although we have insurance, there is usually a co-payment, and he is always very clear about what any procedure will cost me out-of-pocket. I have been to many dental practices over the years. Dr. Silvera's is the very best I have ever had the opportunity to experience. I would like to say that the office is pleasant and easy to find, and there is always parking available. The staff is super friendly, and have all been with him for a long time. They are very accommodating with schedule- even if the office is busy! I love that I can get a text confirmation for my appointments too. going to Dr Silvera's practice is one of the best experiences ive had. I went in there for a few issues and all were resolved in a few sessions. the staff are all so friendly, experienced, and care about you as a patient and customer. the doctor is experienced and gave me on several occaisions different optionsfor treatment plans. He isn't pshy and gave me a priority on the treatments to fit my budget. His work was excellent, he even followed up with me the night of the procedure to see how I am doing. The parking is easy and free, so follow ups are easy. the office is clean and orderly. Best of all he has a machine that makes crowns in 45 minutes, saving the hassle of temporaries, follow ups, and all the time needed for those. I am very greatful for the doctor and his staff, and I am def going back. read more

Dr. Silvera came highly recommended to me by several different family friends when I first moved to Los Angeles and was very reticent about looking for a new dentist after a bad experience with one in New York. I had been looking for someone knowledgeable about TMJ because mine was particularly painful and at the time (this was 5-6 years ago), Dr. Silvera had a really great and effective physical therapy program for TMJ that I did for about a year until I didn't need it. I've been going to him ever since. Dr. Silvera always gives you all the time you need. He's scheduled longer visits for me because of my TMJ. When he heard through the grapevine that I had been taken to the hospital for an emergency, he came to the hospital personally to say hello. I can say without a doubt that I trust him implicitly. The staff is always friendly. Marsha and the dental assistants always ask after my family. I appreciate the texts and call reminders for appointments as my calendar app is not as trustworthy as these folks. He's either a liar or a terrible dentist. A few months ago I went in there to find a new dentist, and it was a slight emergency as I had tooth pain on the day before a holiday. He was the only one I could find. The conversation was nice, the offices were a little dull and lifeless. However I wouldn't have cared if he was a good and HONEST dentist. Alas, it wasn't to be. $170 for him to stare at my teeth and take a bunch of Xrays. I didn't even get a cleaning for that. He tried to sell me on this branded Sonicare-like electric toothbrush that I later discovered had terrible reviews. He told me I have three very small cavities that he would have to fill, and he also recommended these things called Six Month Power Braces. I thanked him and went off on my way. I later canceled my appointment to fill the cavities when I realized he might be playing me. I had never had a cavity in my life, now I have three? Two months later I go to an appointment with another dentist (I considered telling you which, but then you might think I was a shill for them, so I'll just say she was very skilled). For $130 I got xrays that were available immediately on an LCD screen in front of me, a cleaning, and a little lesson on what cavities would look like on xrays...if I had any, which I didn't. She also said the "Six-Month Power Braces" were only good for minimal movement, and that I'd definitely need regular braces (alas). Disappointing. Point is that Dr. Silvera either sucks as a dentist (finding cavities where there are none), or outright lied to me. Either way, don't go to him. EDIT: Oh look, the recent positive reviews appear to have joined and posted one review just for this dentist and nothing else. Surely that's not suspicious at all. read more

I can think of a few things I'd rather do than go to the dentist: eat a plate full of brussels sprouts, listen to Elizabeth Hasselbeck try to put together an original thought or spend hours in 405 traffic so horrific that it makes me want to drive off an overpass. However, going to Dr. Silvera's office is as pleasant as a dental experience can get. Dr. Silvera is professional, extremely competent, congenial and funny. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a certificate for customer service excellency hiding in his office somewhere. Once when Dr. Silvera was running behind with another patient (the only time he's been late with me), he came out *himself* to tell me they'd get to me soon and to apologize for the delay (which was only 20 minutes). I was floored and greatly appreciative. I have had doctors keep me waiting for an hour past my appointment and never have they made mention of their being tardy for the party much less apologize for it. So, two snaps to Dr. Silvera and his staff for that. My time is valuable too and he obviously appreciates that. He also remembers and calls me by name, so there's none of that, "Hey there, uh, girl I saw last week of whom I have no recollection," or, "Hi, Janet, nice to see you again," leaving you wondering, "Who the heck is Janet??" Even the staff is wonderful. The receptionist (I'm sorry if that's the incorrect title!), Marsha, always greets me with a big smile and she has an upbeat & warm demeanor. I am instantly brought to a smile when I walk in and see her at the front desk. I'm smiling just thinking about it. The hygienist is great too. She knows her gums! She didn't lecture me about flossing more to the point where I leave feeling like the worst tooth owner in the world who fails at life and should just give up on living and my teeth. She simply encouraged me to be more vigilant about taking care of my teeth and reeducated me on the proper toothbrushing techniques by appealing to my vanity - I am not interested in having my teeth fall out and looking like I belong on peopleofwalmart.com. I'm saddened to see the 1-star reviews here because a. they mentioned nothing about the quality of care provided by Dr. Silvera and his staff, which is stellar, and b. I've never had any problems with billing. In fact, Dr. Silvera's staff has been very helpful in keeping me apprised of the costs of procedures so I can be careful not to exceed my yearly insurance maximum. Lastly, Dr. Silvera's office is hooked up with DirecTV in each patient room. So, I actually get to leave work to go watch The Golden Girls or Desperate Housewives or CNN while my teeth are being prettified. There's also free parking in the back, so no worries about having to pay exorbitant parking fees to a greedy parking garage. I could go and on with more examples of awesomeness, but I think this review is long enough. I really couldn't ask for more - except, well...could I have just a *little* bit of candy to snack on while I'm watching Law & Order: CI? :)). read more

Eh- After reading rave reviews about Dr. Silvera's office, i decided to give it a try. Lets just say they ran my insurance verification, told me everything they were doing that day was covered, and now i have a bill for almost 200 bucks. After calling the receptionist back a few times, her only response to me was "no i never told you everything we were doing that day was covered". i was in shock because i remember quite vividly telling her that i would not proceed with the x rays/examinations if they werent covered by my insurance. Well, in short- Beware. just because they tell you one thing- do NOT take their word for it and make the mistake i did. You are better off calling your insurance company and verifying your co pay yourself! One star for this office is as low as i could go. Dishonesty is not to be tolerated especially from a Dr.! I found Dr. Silvera via 1-800-Dentist about three years ago when I had an emergency and my regular dentist was not available. Dr. Silvera is excellent, makes each visit pain free (as humanly possible), and both he and his staff are friendly and ver professional. I stayed with Dr. Silvera and did not return to my former dentist. What I especially like is the reminders they send (!) and their flexibility if you need to change an appointment. I have recommended Dr. Silvera to our other nuns and to lots of friends who like him and his staff very much. When I needed a tooth extracted, he sent me to a specialist. I feel that Dr. Silvera really has my dental health in mind and when a specialist is needed, he recommends one that he trusts. BTW, the hygienists who work there are terrific. Very gentle and they don't scold you for not flossing! (Though they encourage it and congratulate you when you do!) The office is very clean and you can watch the TV, news, or whatever, while he is working - if you feel like it, that is. read more

Dr. Silvera was highly recommended to us by a trusted friend when we first moved to LA in 2008. I've seen many a dentist in my life and Dr. Silvera's office, by far, has been the most pleasant. He took the time to listen to my concerns and create a game plan for addressing all my issues, spacing out the procedures so I wouldn't be out of pocket all at once. The results were better than I had hoped and I love my smile. His staff is efficient and communicative. They seem to have very current dental equipment because they use gadgets I've never seen in any other office and my dental cleanings have never been more comfortable.
