Texture and color! Crunchy, crispy, creamy, all of it a delight to the senses. That's what this restaurant is about. Well, that, and being absolutely delicious and awesome. I've had my fair share of Indian food and this place is unlike any other. I consider myself quite the carnivore and I'm amazed that Neehee's is not only a front-runner for my favorite Indian restaurant, but maybe restaurant, period. The menu can be overwhelming for a newcomer, so my recommendation is as follows. Take a buddy or date. Get three dishes. Papdi chaat, gobi manchurian, and a dosa of your choosing. Maybe a rice or noodle dish if you want dive deeply into blissful street food coma (highly recommended!). read more

A good Vegetarian joint- I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but it exists. Came here with some friends as our traditional "1st Thursday Middle Eastern" was put on hold due to one of our friends being absent. AMBIANCE- when you walk in, you feel like you're at a fast food joint in India (or what I imagine a fast food joint in India to look like). Menu is behind the register, tables with uncomfortable chairs, and a bunch of people in the back cooking your food. I wasn't sure what to make of this place, but we moved forward. SERVICE- order your food, and they call your number when it's up. I have no qualms with places like this. In fact, I wish more places were like this- you take away the variability of people's experience, and really focus on the food. MENU- The menu is quite extensive. They have both Indian and Indo-Chinese, and plenty to choose from for each. Thankfully my friends and I are well versed in Indian food and were able to make some quality selections. Still, the sheer number of options made us argue for a bit, but we finally settled on some select few dishes. FOOD- started out with samosas and aloo chaat (cripsy potatoes with chutneys, cumin, red chily powder, lime.). The samosas were nice and light. Not super heavy like many other samosas. The aloo chaat could've been crispier, but still tasty. From there we tried the Vegetable Pakoda (green pepper, onion, spinach, carrots mixed with batter and fried till crisp.) If it's deep fried, it's gotta be tasty, and these were no exception. After that we did "entrees" (yes, we did order a couple of dishes. There were three of us though). We tried the Manchurian Rice (vege balls tossed with rice and manchurian sauce.), Gobi 65 (crisp cauliflower tossed with chili sauce, spices and ginger garlic) and PANEER, BABY CORN ,GARLIC NOODLES. Dug both the Rice and Gobi- loved the flavor combos. The garlic noodles were lacking garlic and were some what dull OVERALL- I barely cracked the menu, and what we did have we all enjoyed. I definitely do not know what to order I could see maybe other people loving the food but maybe not for me or at least what I ordered it I'll possibly give them a try again. I love this restaurant, their food is absolutely delicious and worth the wait and the drive! I love the Pav Bhaji, the flavors are intense and I always want more! The Dahi Puri is another favorite, I can't tell which bit is my favorite, the shell, the potatoes, the chickpeas, or the combination of sauces. Growing up, I hated cauliflower with the passion of a thousand suns. As an adult I discovered that cauliflower is delicious when it's paired with flavor! The Gobi Manchurian is amazing and will convert even a diehard cauliflower hater. What I love about Neehees is the selection, so many different choices, every meal is a new adventure. read more

Loved the distinct flavors and spices on the dishes. Most of the dishes were fried or contained fried items, though. The rava dosa was really good although again a bit oily. Finally made it! I've only had Neehee's on my radar since they opened. Ken chose them when we found ourselves in the area, hungry after working out, and he doesn't like Indian food half as much as I do. We arrived at 1:30pm on a Saturday, and the place was packed. So packed, we had to wait for a table. At 1:30! The menu is huge and overwhelming, if you're a relative newcomer to Indian food. But the prices are low enough that you can go a little crazy without too much worry. We finally decided on samosas, onion pakodas, aloo chaat and the paneer dosa. I had the mango lassi, and look forward to trying either the salt lassi or sugar cane drink next time! The samosas were the biggest I've ever had. Bigger is not always better... Very dense crust, very dense filling. I've had better for sure. Served with spicy mint and sweet tamarind chutneys. $2.50 for 2. We would not get again. The onion pakodas was a large app - 8 fried fritters, with the same two chutney dippers. This was well seasoned, and not greasy. $5. May try the veggie pakodas next time. Aloo Chaat was easily my favorite of our dishes. Salty, spicy from the chili and chutney, zippy from the lime juice. A definite repeat dish! $4.50 for a soup bowl's worth of deliciousness. The milli chili paneer dosa was good. Ken loved the cup of lentil soup that accompanied this rolled sandwich, dipping everything in it, including the pakodas! Two dull-ish chutneys came with this. Both added a creaminess to the sandwich, but I didn't love either. I wanted raita (I'm an Indian food idiot, so I apologize if that doesn't "go" with a dosa, but I wanted it bad!). $9-ish, I think. Damn it, I didn't get ice cream! And this was after we walked by big signs on the windows advertising their ice cream, and I thought "don't forget to try that ice cream". Yeeesh. I'm on the fence about this place. First of all, I've never had Indian food before, so this post might be a bit naive, and maybe more about Indian cuisine in general than Neehee's itself, which is why there's an average rating. First off, the menu is confusing. On my initial visit, I thought it was just me, but my friend I came with the second time was also lost. She couldn't figure out what came with rice, what was a sandwich, etc. The electronic menu with hardly any descriptions didn't pair well with the unhelpful and unfriendly staff. Second, the food is alright. I remembered from the first time, when we ended up with too many too spicy soups, that I should pick something off the 'Dry' section. That worked out well for me (I got garlic baby corn, and would order again. It is just what it sounds like). The Chinese/Indian fusion foods were good too. If you're also overwhelmed by the large menu, pay attention to the color coded dots that inform you of spicy, garlic, vegan, etc options. Dosas are good choices for newbies (similar to crepes). I LOVED the falooda drink, something totally different and new. It was similar to bubble tea- a cold, milky drink with solid additions in it. I got mine with coconut ice cream, then they add long strands of vermicelli, gelatinous seeds (basil seeds? sesame seeds? chia seeds?), and rose syrup. read more

Everything we ordered was too salty. I think the only thing that was appetizing was the curried potato with their signature bread and their vegetable samosas. The onion pakoras had nice flavor, but too greasy. The sandwich we ordered had a weird texture and taste, so that might have been just a mistake on our part. Yum!! Wanted to try this place since they've changed locations. Dining room: Lots of flat screens featuring food, menu, Bollywood movie. Food: fantastic! Love that there's a kid menu so I don't have to ask what's not spicy for my boys. We ended up getting the cheese and jam dosa. Very cute. Should have ordered 2. Eat them fast or the crunchiness won't last. I ordered my favorite Chloe battura(sp?). It was yummy in flavor but more brothy than thick? I also tried their sugar cane juice. Menu states 12oz? It was a tiny water cup size and I'm grateful for. It had some spice in it which made it hard for me to enjoy. Overall it's a nice clean place. Will be back! read more

The BEST Indian food I have EVER eaten! I have only been twice because this place is a 45 min drive from my house. A good friend of mine dragged me here saying the food was as close to what she use to get when she lived in India. Everything is vegetarian and while I'm not I still enjoyed the meal imminsley. We've been here multiple times and this place has never disappointed us. Their Indian street food is so good. We ordered vada pav, bhel kachori and dry paneer chilli. Everything was amazing. Vada pav was a bit spicy for us so we ended up removing a part of the vada. Ended our meal with falooda and mango lassi and it was so soothing! Weekends can get very busy so if you're planning to visit on a weekend then do go early to skip the huge queue! read more

Why Neehees, well if you want the most confusing menu and you want to keep jumping up and down to get each item of your food every time the buzzer go's off and if you want a disorganized and dirty dining room, well then this place is for you. I just don't get it "Indian street food" give me a break, next time I will pass, and I like Indian. I would much rather have a traditional restaurant with a waiter that brings you your food cks on you and fills your water when you need more. This was the first time I have tried Indian cuisine. I'm really glad I tried this place. It's not for the faint of palate; the food is pretty spicy. Sometimes as a carnivore I get tired of eating meat dishes, so this offers a huge variety of interesting alternatives. The prices are great. Don't expect the usual sit down establishment, It's more of a very small cafeteria style get your tray and hope to find a table to sit at. Absolutely amazing and quick authentic Indian food with a mix of Indo-Chinese on the menu. The Dosa is to die for, and the feeling of home comes right back with the Pani Puri. You must order the Gobi Manchurian for a crisp and flavorful mix, with a small little kick with each bite. You cannot complete your order without the Mango Lassi! A perfect mixture of sweet and creamy, with just the right amount of mango. It is the perfect end to an already perfect meal. The service is great, your food is ready within minutes depending on how busy it is. Overall vegetarian or not I cannot recommend this restaurant more!! read more

I went to Neehee's for the first time today, and my visit could not have gone better! Before I talk about the food, let me compliment this place for having outstanding structure. All of the menu items are listed with a letter and number, which makes ordering unfamiliar dishes easier and prevents the embarrassing chance of butchering a name. There is also a screen on the cash register which shows you what you ordered just to confirm they heard you correctly - I love it. Once your order is placed you receive a traditional beeper which goes off when your food is ready, which was not long at all. Now on to the food: it was phenomenal! I ordered the Chloe Bhature, and my father ordered the Schezwan Spicy Noodles. Both had a lot of heat and spice to them, so people with weak tongues beware. But if you can handle the heat you most definitely have to give this place a go. I can't wait to come back and try more menu items! read more

I happened to drive by the huge sign on the highway for this place twice today, so I'm gonna call this destiny. When you first walk into the place, you can tell right away that it's very popular. It's full of people and on a Monday night, there was about a 15 minute wait to get a table. The lady who greeted me at the door told me what the best dishes were on the menu, which I really appreciated. The place sells itself on providing Mumbai street food, but there is so much more on the menu. Dishes include favorites from the south of India and Manchurian/Chinese fusion food. I can tell you right now, I've been a lot of Indian restaurants in my life. And usually they specialize in maybe one of those three things. My husband was a little skeptical at first when I told him it was all vegetarian, but when we pulled up and he saw how bright and inviting the place looked, he was excited to try it out. The place is unassuming just tucked away in a strip mall and around the corner from the Hindu temple. The food delivers for a quick bite or a huge sit down meal. The casual atmosphere is bright and clean. The food is on point. We had the paneer veg sandwich, dahi samosa chat, and manchurian rice. All three were cooked well and flavorful. The prices are good because they give a solid portion size. They were out of sugarcane juice when we went which was too bad. The buzzer system is effective but a little clumsy to get your food. But these minor inconveniences are more than made up for by the food. This place gets busy so there may be a wait to get a table. The best part is the fact that it's got a huge menu of street foods of all styles including idli/dosa/uthapam and Indo-Chinese. It's also all vegetarian which means I can come back and order anything off the menu over and over and never get bored! I'll surely be back to Neehee's read more

After an underwhelming visit a few years ago I avoided Neehee's as I felt there were much better Indian restaurants. My parents insisted on getting carry out from here, so I gave it another shot. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised this time around. We ordered an array of things but my favorites were the dahi samosa chaat and the Goni Manchurian. I'd be willing to try a few more things off the menu, but will likely wait for them to resume dine-in service because certain items like dosa probably taste better when eaten immediately after it's been cooked. A great option for vegetarians and vegans. read more

Two times in a row, I have tried to order food from Nehees on a Detroit daytrip and have been unsuccessful. The first time we tried to order, they wouldnt take it over the phone and made us order online, which is not possible when driving. The second time, we went strait to the website and it kept crashing when we tried to check out. I liked everything that I got here, especially the ragda patties. The samosas were good, but the pastry on the outside was a little heavy/overcooked - I prefer a lighter pastry. I thought everything was pretty spicy here - I usually like a decent level of spice, and this was right on the edge of being a little too much. I also tried a rose flavored lassi, which I'd never heard of before, and it was okay. It mostly was just yogurty. My favorite thing about Neehee's is the ice cream. Neehee's was packed tonight. Their staff handled the crowd well and food was ready fairly quickly. After we were assigned a table and had ordered, we waited at our table chatting until our alarm went off. We had a great spot to watch the crowd and figure out dishes to try next time! My daughter enjoyed a dose with cheese, paneer and sweet corn. It reminded me of quality comfort food, an Indian version of grilled cheese or panini. It was large enough that she brought a good amount home to try to reheat in the toaster oven. I loved the Gobi 65! The cauliflower as crunchy and not overly breaded. The spice was set on slow burn. The only thing I disliked about my experience here and it is not Neehee's fault but rather their ignorant patron's. Is this! When in America do as the Americans do. If you are at a McDonnalds or Burger King or Taco Bell you clean up after yourself. I really liked this place, but I ordered G3, an eggplant dish that says it comes with rice, and C27 the Neehee's Special Chaat. I get all the way home and the eggplant dish is in this tiny deli container and there's no rice! I paid $10.99 for a small container of eggplant broth with one piece of eggplant in it and a woody end of an asparagus and one carrot piece. I called the restaurant and made sure that it was supposed to come with rice. They were very nice. I really should have checked my order before heading home, so that's my fault. I just didn't think my order was that complicated. Sad because I was really looking forward to some basmati rice tonight! I will be back though and give them another chance.
