Under new & greatly improved management. We had a fantastic experience staying at Needles Outpost over Labor Day weekend 2015. Clean tent sites, clean campground, clean restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, clean office/store/gas station, and VERY friendly staff. Cost exactly the same for two nights camping as it would inside the park after factoring in the $10 park entrance fee. Sites for car/tent camping inside the park - less than 5 miles away - were mostly primitive, with only one compost toilet per campground. Needles Outpost had two restrooms - one for men and one for women. Two toilets, two showers, and two sinks in each. Even though they truck in the water, with our fee for a 2 night stay we got tokens for 1 shower per person in our group. Since it's the middle of the desert, the showers operate on 5 minute timers to conserve water - which has to be brought in by truck. The best part is that instead of trying to rush to get done in 5 minutes from start to finish (impossible if you're helping small children get clean at the same time as yourself), the timer only counts down while the water is running. Think Navy ship shower - turn the water on, get wet, turn the water off, lather up from head to toe, turn water on again, rinse completely, turn water off). HUGE red rock in the campground bordering all the campsites on the east side of the grounds. We took two hikes, each lasting more than an hour, up on the rock and still didn't get to explore it all. High on the rock we saw petroglyphs and were treated to fantastic 360 degree views. It was only about 3 miles from our camp site to Canyonlands N.P. Visitor Center. Thank you, new management, for a great desert camping experience. We'll be back again next year. read more

Showers and Bathrooms Dirty and Need Repair. Although there are a few BLM and National Parks Campgrounds in the area we decided to spend a number of nights here recently because of the availability of showers. Initially I was ok the campground. Although dusty, the sites have a decent amount of space between them and they all have some view of the "needles" on the horizon. They each have a fire ring, picnic table and most have a small amount of shade. When I went to take my $3.00 shower it was a different story. Outside the ladies bathroom was a sign stating that one of the two showers was not working and it "will be fixed by 1 pm tomorrow." The other shower was working but was not draining well so I had to stand in a few inches of dirty water from previous showers in order take mine. The bathroom looked like it wasn't cleaned very often. I thought of speaking to one of the managers, named Amber, about it; however it seemed whenever I went over to the office she was in some sort of upset with a customer so I decided against it initially. On the second day I did speak with her about it and her attitude was that I was bothering her and she got defensive but she did say that they were working on it. We stayed all four days of our prepaid reservation. The bathroom and shower situation remained the same as did the sign outside the women's bathroom. read more

We met the new proprietor of the Canyonlands Needles Outpost and her trusty sidekick and water truck driver,.fresh from Evanston, Wy., She was a treasure trove of misinformation regarding the Outpost, the Needles area, and their history (rest in peace Dick Smith). The "store" was sparsely stocked with snacky items and pop.The lunch counter had obviously been relegated to history with a soft drink cooler shoved in front of it.SITLA, who owns the property and finally succeeded in evicting the former long time owners, Gary and Tracey, had graded the entry road and placed a couple of culverts to deal with flooding, Strange they never bothered with that when the previous proprietors were there, The road improvements are undoubtedly designed to accommodate oil exploration and production...which is the ultimate goal of our SITLA who's motto is "No piece of nature undrilled or undeveloped".Granted that Tracey could be pretty "tweaky" and cantankerous, she and Gary ran a thoughtfully and well stocked clean store and campground. Gary was an expert guide and historian of the area...his knowledge surpassed most of the Park Rangers. A sad end to a venerable landmark. I suspect that when the new lease runs out in a year,SITLA will proceed with leasing the place for oil and/or gas development."Leave no natural piece of land undrilled or undeveloped". read more

*NEW OWNERS* If you read any of the previous negative reviews you will see that a lady named Tracey owned this property years back and the land was seized by the state of Utah. Within the last month a lovely couple (I believe their names are Amber and Chris) have bought the land and are doing what they can to turn the place around. We stopped in for some gas on the way into our campsite in canyon lands and was greeted by a cheery lady who convinced us to stay camp here instead. They charge the same rate as the national park campsites. You also get 3$, 5 minute showers if you camp here (6$ if you're just passing through). Some of the camp sites have shade and picnic tables. Behind the campgrounds is an awesome rock formation that is super fun to climb on and the perfect place to watch the sunset. They have a breakfast lunch and dinner menu that you can order from, including milk shakes and smoothies! Inside the shop you will also find anything you ever forgot to bring; including frozen meats! Stop by and check this place out! Give them your business so they can make this place a perfect place for passing travelers! read more

All I can say is STAY AWAY FROM THE NEEDLES OUTPOST!!!! After driving up the road at 15mph the owner, Tracy, came out and yelled at us and told us that we were driving like recklessly and her husband, Gary, said that he was going to write down our licence plate and give us a ticket. We were all shocked and tried to calm them down, but since they were more than likely on drugs they freaked out even more so we decided to leave. While leaving THEY THREW A BRICK SIZED ROCK AT OUR CAR AND SHATTERED OUR REAR WINDOW!!!!!!!! Mind you that we were all inside the car and trying to leave peacefully. We stopped and asked them what they were thinking and they fully denied everything and said that we must have kicked up a rock while driving that somehow defied the laws of physics and shattered the rear window of our sedan and continued to swear and threaten us. Finally after sending some friends in another car to get the police (because there is no cell service) we decided to leave because we felt very very threatened by these mean and irrational people. read more

We were so impressed with this place!! Most of the tent sites back up to a sandstone rock outcropping, which you can climb up to watch the sunset. It also provides shade for a couple extra hours in the morning. Wasn't critical when we stayed there in October cause the mornings were cool enough to sleep well in our tent, but in the summer I imagine you would really appreciate those extra hours before your tent starts to cook! The tent sites are separated from camper sites as well, to make the tent sites quieter. The shop is well stocked with food, drinks, medicines, firewood, etc- and the staff was friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are in good shape with running water. BEAUTIFUL place to stay with great access to Canyonlands. We'll be back! read more

We we're camping near by and decided to grab some snacks and extra firewood. We went in and noticed nothing is priced. I can give you a run down though. 3.2% beer was $20 for a 6 pack, an ice cream bar was $4... Gas was over $7 a gallon Ect. It was pricey. But non the less we were going to buy a few things. Until the lady working started yelling at my son for touching things. He was grabbing the snacks he wanted. She told him that's a thousand dollars. Do you have a thousand dollars, no so quit ****** touching stuff unless your going to buy it. ( my son is 4). Needless to say we set all our stuff down and walked out. We would rather drive back to Monticello or Moab than give her a penny! read more

Needles Outpost is under new management. We opened for business on the 5 of September, 2015. We have a c-store with gas pumps and all the ice you could possibly want! The campground is great with rock climbing the is just right for small kids and challenging for the brave at heart. The showers are wonderful after the long hiking, biking, or jeeping that go with this area. The quiet is great out here. So come on down the weather is GREAT!!!! We went here when we couldn't get a spot in the park and it was fantastic! Its super close to the entrance of canyonlands. It's under new ownership (if you read the previous bad reviews about the old owner), and the new owners is a nice couple who are very charming! $20 a night which is great and the sites are super unique. I'm pretty sure the new owners even made breakfast if you wanted it. The only thing about this place is I would defiantly recommend a strong bug repellent. There were little bugs everywhere, but that's not the camp sites fault. Overall we had a great time and would definitely come back. read more

Camped here 9/22/17, it's definitely on it's way to 5 stars. Spectacular views, nice campsites, quiet with roomy teepee's for those so inclined. Amber was really pleasant and helpful when we arrived. The facilities are a little on the basic side but well kept and functional. Given the remoteness of this spot they have a lot to offer, and it's obvious they are dedicated to improving the business they've just recently acquired. It's the west and little rugged as it should be. Thumbs up! read more

The location is beautiful. But the staff/owners are jerks. The after hours checkin involves reading handwritten notes on the side of the door. These are hard to read and written in a collage across an old mailbox (A professional printed sign would help greatly). However be warned, if you don't follow all the rules the owners, emerged like a troll from its dungeon, to yell at you for endangering their cats. Clearly cats are king. I would never stay here again. read more

Awesome campsite!!! Beautiful location, the campsites are nicely spaced out and right up against the red rocks. Gorgeous view to wake up to. Very convenient location only ~5 minutes from the visitor's center. Very reasonably priced general store given the remoteness. Owners were very friendly and even let us check in a little early before we headed into the park for a hike. Highly recommend, would definitely stay again!! read more

So happy Needles Outpost has re-opened under new management. You have access to supplies until dark now instead of the previous 4pm cutoff. Very friendly and it was good to have a place to camp once again outside the Nat'l park. A shower in the desert is a wonderful thing. Previous bad reviews were on the previous proprietors and it's safe to go back in again. :o) read more

Really cool campground. Remote and primitive. It was awesome to have showers and such easy access to the Needles. Will definitely stay here again, probably for multiple days while I explore all that the Needles District has to offer. read more
