We came across Need for Build from a recommendation both through work and through the Next Door app. We've had a couple of horrible "catch a contractor" type situations in the past with jobs left for me to complete when most/all of the money had been paid. Not this time - Danny and Avi came to our home, assessed our needs and tastes and wrote up a quote for a complete bathroom remodel. What made them stand out was that Danny provided some pretty creative and artistic design ideas on the spot and offered to meet us at the local Floor and Decor store to help decide on the final design while choosing the tile, grout color, etc. Their involvement through this phase and Danny's eye for design really made this part an enjoyable experience. Following that, the crews that were sent were incredibly efficient, clean and showed up like clock work every day. The bathroom came out on budget, on time and looks incredible! During the bathroom remodel, we decided to hire them for a second job - to replace our entire home's carpet with wood flooring. Quick tip.. I'd never recommend anyone to do two major constuction projects at the same time while living in the home - especially right before Christmas. But that was our own crazy decision. The flooring install progressed pretty quickly and Danny and Avi made sure that every little thing was taken care of before signing off and making final payment - and we were able to decorate everything in time for the holidays! What we realized afterward was that the way the floor installer put down the stairs was not what we had in mind. He has used a moulding/lip front edge rather than a flat "bullnose" design. It was not very comfortable when walking up and down. We brought it to Danny's attention and he brought out a crew to redo the stairs to our satisfaction! No arguing, no haggling for additional cost - just a great company standing behind their work. For these reasons, I will be using them again when we begin our next projects to improve our home. I highly recommend anyone else looking for a reputable and honest contactor to give Need for Build a shot. read more

Need For Build did an outstanding job modifying the side yard of our house. The job included clearing large sections of dirt, building a 3' by 50' retaining wall, and installing pavers. The cost estimate came in thousands less than the others I received for the same work. They started on schedule and had a time estimate of 2 to 3 weeks, but they actually finished in only 8 working days. They were very flexible and made changes to the plan at my request as the job proceeded. The work crews were all very polite and helpful; they cleaned up each day and left the final site looking excellent. Another good point is that David was both the salesperson and the project manager so he showed up every day to make sure the progress matched my expectations - I've had other company's sales people disappear once the sale has been made, but not David! read more

5 mos later, one of our wall caps came loose. I contacted our Project Mgr, Ivan, and 30 minutes later, two N4B workers came and reattached the cap. I know it's not a big deal, but it's comforting to know that the relationship with N4B extends beyond the conclusion of the job. We met with a total of 3 contractors before deciding to go with Need For Build to build a retaining wall and replace our existing fence. Our patio was in bad shape and getting worse. The wooden frame cover had dried rot in several areas and mold/fungus growth from leaks through bad built. Original owner decided to use rectangle red bricks to do the flooring, which of course became uneven over the years. We basically can't use our patio. Our friend had their whole backyard remodel by Need for Build around the beginning of the year, and we really like how it was done. My friend is an extreme exacting type of person, down to the millimeter of everything! So when he actually recommended the a company, we won't need to interview anyone else. Rachel was in charge of our project and was so helpful and there every step of the way! The crews (Fernando, George, and the men) were all so awesome and very professional. They came when they said so and took down and removed our old patio within two days! We choose to have plain concrete patio and not the stamped color one so we can match our existing side. It took the team one week for completion from start to finish. We absolutely love our new patio, and have been showing it off. It has been a pleasure working with Rachel and the crew members from Need for Build. They may not be cheapest but not the most expensive either...they will work with your budget and work with you on all level. We will not be using Need for Build, so my feedback is for the initial experience. We made an appointment to have an estimate done on having our front grass replaced with turf and a river rock border. Two employees came on time and were courteous, knowledgable and great representatives of the company. The problem came when what we had assumed would be a 30 minute discussion and measure turned into a 90+ minute meeting, where we reviewed all of the details of their accreditations, insurance, examples of interior remodel projects and other items prior to the presentation of the estimate for our project. While it is impressive, I feel that info might be better to cover in such detail once a client has agreed to the project. I think that it would be helpful that when the appointment is set that the potential client is told that how long they should expect to set aside for the appointment. Also helpful to discuss potential budget in advance as well to make sure both parties are close to "the same page" as far as cost goes. At the end, the project came in much higher than we had anticipated and we decided to not continue, but we were impressed with their employees. read more

I researched many companies prior to selecting Need For Build to demo two large sections of block wall and install vinyl fencing in my backyard. Even tho they won't the cheapest, I l chose Need For Build because of Rachel's professionalism when making her presentation and the fact that they had their own employees (no subs) and they would do both the demo and install of the fencing. The demo and fencing involved getting buyin from three neighbors and an HOA. Rachel did a fantastic job putting all the docs together to obtain approvals. So after an initial bad experience and review I was contacted by one of the owners of the company. He was extremely apologetic and said this is not how they do their work or run their company. He explained he wanted to set up an appointment to personally come out with a different project manager to get a quote for me and make sure i receive a real 5 star experience. We found dry rot outside of our home and contacted many contractors to help us with this project and need for build was the obvious choice to us. They were quick to respond and sent out a team to take a look at the damages. Dereck and Rico where extremely helpful and made sure we understood everything that was happening. After speaking with them and going over all their licenses and why we should trust them it made us feel very comfortable knowing they had the knowledge and experience to tackle this project. On top of that they came in with the most affordable pricing out of any other local contractor we spoke with. So much so that we were able to add on new gutters to our home as well as replace our front porch steps that was also affected by rot. In the end the work turned out amazing and even though they where the most affordable I must add NO CORNERS WERE CUT. They went out of their way to get the best materials for the project and even found the matching panels for our wall after I was told by others it wouldn't be possible to match. Avraham and Mariano did an amazing job fixing everything and going above and beyond to even add some new hardware and a support to our patio cover (no charge to us) after seeing it was not in the best shape. Need to build was good about answering questions via the yelp message option and was able to come out for a late afternoon appointment. Where things fell apart was when I tried to do the follow up and the actual onsite appointment. When I spoke with the young lady who called to confirm from the office - I asked that the employee coming out please text me vs ringing my doorbell as I have dogs and I did not want them to bark and get worked up. This was not communicated when the employee came out. Additionally when David came out I asked for three quotes and he was Exceptionally hesitant to give me the quotes. He seem to only want to talk about the first quote which was for concrete slab. When I asked him why not the other two options which was a sunroom or construction build he kept telling me how there were so many so many so many options. I told him it didn't make any sense as someone in the construction field he would be able to tell me which type a sunroom kids would be the best option and Know which vendors would offer them here in San Diego locally. While trying to steer the appointment back on track David kept bringing up my backyard landscape which is in progress as we are converting to zero scape. He started trying to sell me on artificial turf telling me that they had the best brand and I told him we didn't want artificial tour that we were going to do zero scape and thanked him but I told him I really wanted to finish talking about the construction quote that I was trying to get. I asked him if he could email me the information he told me yes he took down my email address and then when I tried to follow up with the office I was told they do not email quotes. During the on-site visit David wanted to go over the history of the company and sell me on the fact that they were licensed contractors and other information like that and I told him I was really only interested in the quotes as I am working with the bank and need the information in writing. I made two attempts to get the quotes and I was told only if they could come back out to my home and do the company history presentation and then they would review the quote but no emails. Although I'm fine with the way my backyard turned out, I think things could have been handled differently. To begin,I have never done a big project like this before so I was unprepared for what to expect. The contract was written like "$6,500 due upon completion of retaining wall, $12,000 due after paving stones are installed, etc. There was no breakdown of what the materials will cost, labor, etc.....like how did he come up with the numbers???!! I was quoted with a price for the project but as it progressed, there were additional costs I wasn't aware of and things kept adding up. Example: 3 -4 (medium) trees needed to be cut, I had to pay for 2 propane tanks, the glass and lava rocks for the fire pit, etc., among others, things that I wasn't aware of at the time of the quote and wasn't aware wasn't included. And those were little things, they wanted to add $17,000 at one point, which I turned down and got completed with someone else for $2,000!!! After the project was done, I was left with dust everywhere, fire pit didn't work right when I hosted a small get-together, and because they mixed cement on my asphalt driveway, it ruined the area and I had to get the whole driveway resealed at my expense. The project was supposed to be done in 2 weeks but it took 2.5 to 3 weeks longer, which I have to understand because some materials were in short supply due to COVID. Al and the crew that did the work were fantastic, the only good thing here. Tommy also added things like patio lights, a few stepping stones and a few succulents. If you decide to go with this company, make sure you have a breakdown of costs in DETAIL so you get quoted correctly. Don't sign anything right away without careful review of what you're getting, obtain additional quotes if possible. I had a budget for this project and at the end it cost me more than I wanted to spend, hard lesson to learn. read more
