There are a lot of places in Seattle to see a show. This is one of the best. Why? Well, it's: Intimate - the size is such that you're never far from the stage. The only downer to this is that it gets PACKED and that makes it hard to move around. Divey - This venue has a dive feel to it, but they pull top notch acts. So you get the quality music and sound, but with a less pretentious feel. Also, the drinks are cheap and STIFF. Comfortable - The vibe here is laid back (at least for the shows I've been to). That's what I want when I'm headed out to enjoy music. Got a great patio - The patio is awesome. It's large, they have a hidden bar out there which always has less of a line than the bar inside, and the roll-up door means that those outside can enjoy the show too, with even more elbow room. And they have heaters for cold nights. Got a balcony - which can be a good place to post up. In a good location - Which makes attending shows easier. I don't have to battle downtown bullshit to get to my show. I mean, on weekends, Fremont has its fair share of BS. But it's not as bad. Yup. I dig this venue. read more

All the reasons I hate Nectar: 1. They made us move our table (Time: 7:30pm, Occupants in Bar: 10) 2. They took our table away, and we had just ordered food. (Time: 7:40, Occupants: 12) 3. They took our barstools away, it was my make-shift table and I had just gotten my pizza. (Time: 7:45, Occupants:14) 4. They made us move "away from the wall to allow a clear walking space" (um, the bar is empty...). Meaning once again my pizza, my drink, and I had to move. (Time 7:46, Occupants 14) 5. They burned my pizza. Black 6. The whole staff were assholes. They were acting all crazy and busy and just plain rude...again, it was not crowded) 7. Bad dirty vodka martini. Ever swallowed ocean water?...yeah.... 8. Show didn't start for over 2 hours after they said it would. 9. I saw a bug in one of the drinks he was making someone. Gross 10. Ruining a good show by being a bad venue I hope I never have to go there again. read more

Nectar lounge is always a good time! They have an eclectic selection of live music showings that range from bluegrass to jazz fusion to hip hop. This combined with a big dance floor attached to a nice patio. Winning! I took one star off because the bartenders are seriously slow. And the bar is sometimes understaffed on Friday nights (which is just..heinous). The average wait time for a drink has been anywhere between 15-25 minutes for me. And this is time spent not dancing. read more

I purchased a ticket for a show there. I lined up a little before 7 for a show that was supposed to have doors open at 8PM. After almost 9PM someone announced that they were delayed and would be opening in another thirty minutes, but there was no assurance when the show would start. It was a work night and I decided to cut my loses as no one can be sure when the show would start (and I was having doubts there would even be a show). I called the venue the following day and voice my concerns and asked for a refund. They woman on the other end decided to tell me all the ways that I was wrong and that is how it normally is at concerts. I told her I have been to several shows and (while they often do not start on time) the venues at least open when they say they are are. She took my information and said the owner would be in touch in the next day or two to see how they can make this right. Here I am two months later with no return call, no refund or anything. I will never go to another show at this dump and I would discourage others from going there as well. read more

Not much to cover that hasn't already been covered. My first Yelp event! w00t for me! We arrived at 9:45 or so, and found parking RIGHT AWAY! holy shit, what? score! and close by too! The drinks were good, and actually cheaper than I had planned on, so that's a plus. Next time, I'm asking for mel or tony's tab however.. ; ) My coffee bitch described it to me before I went, and he got all the material things right (cemet floor, balcony table area, etc) and the rest (glassy eyed white people not dancing) totally wrong for last night! The line to the ladies bathroom was typical of any bar or club, and there was, *of course* no line for the men's. The 3 guys in there when I visited were very nice and all washed their hands. I was complimented for washing mine as well. For a guy's bathroom, it was clean...wow. I had a great time, I have not done the 'out dancing' thing in a while and it was a great time. I really liked the DJs and they did a good job on the Prince v Michael choices. Although, I thought they pulled out the "bigger" MIchael hits a tad early..(though my sense of time was..uh..way off)...and pulling out the Jackson 5 and Ms Jackson at the end was a cheap ploy to make Michael a winner! My friend and I finally gave in at just before 2am ..which I believe means I outlasted all you yelping-youngins' ....and headed back to the burbs'. I went to Nectar for the first time on Tuesday night, and while I didn't get the memo that I'd need a scraggly beard and blank expression to fit in, I still liked the place. The aesthetics aren't much to write home about (standard small music venue: beer-stickied floors, not many seating options), but I thought the acoustics were pretty great. My friend and I ordered a couple Blue Moons (bonus points for the orange wedges!) and nabbed a good spot on the floor where we could swoon over the sexy, melancholy frontman. Unfortunately, we happened to be standing next to the lead singer of the opening band, who was trying his very best (and very loudest) to pick up an equally annoying girl. All during a very quiet, soul-baring set of Willie Nelson covers. Def the most disrespectful display of sheer douchery that I've seen in awhile. But Nectar was pretty cool. I can't wait to check out the next Prince vs. Michael night! read more

Nectar played host to my best friend's wedding rehearsal "dinner" and drink-fest/frat party this past Friday. In from San Francisco for the weekend, we were consistently surprised by the awesomeness of Seattle bars. In fact, we may defect. The bars were just that good. Nectar is like a garage with a huge bar, a bandstand, a dj booth, a patio, and a loft. If you don't think that sounds like a major score, let me add that they have delicious bar food in enormous portions for rock-bottom prices and the music ranges from gangster rap to old school hip hop to metal to pop and everything in between. They were having some trouble with the sound system the night we were there, but it seemed like they were working it out. The cocktail waitresses jet around awful fast in their itsy-bitsy skirts and took great care of our group all night. The bartenders were friendly and chatty and it was not hard to get a drink at the bar on a Friday evening (this is the opposite of San Francisco and I really appreciated the change of pace). Great bar, huge space, awesome vibe. Now when do we get one of these in SF?? read more

After hitting up Norm's down the street, Nectar seemed like a safe-haven for the "normal" kids. Though I'm pretty sure at some point that evening (probably while looking for parking) I uttered "I am never coming back to Fremont" - I lied. You should go to Fremont and you should go to Nectar. This place is awesome for when the sun is out because of it's big outdoor deck, rivaled only by the Red Door. Evenings here have always been hit or miss. I've been here when tons of people are there, the music is bumping, the cover is inexpensive and it's a ton of fun. I've also been here when the music is lame, the cover as overpriced as the drinks, and dead. Those times luckily are not as often. This place is more open than the High Dive and not as douchy as the Ballroom. Check it out! read more

The nectar lounge is the perfect spot for intimate music shows and full energy! I have attended this venue multiple times to watch friends perform, or to participate with the musicians themselves and always have a blast. The people are very welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere is lively and fun. And I always get to dance my ass off! read more

Update 6/12/08: So they've upped their happy hour prices by quite a lot, and the service has gotten really bad. It's very sad, I used to love Nectar so much. Downgrading from 4 stars to 3, and that's at BEST. I'm keeping the below information so people know how good it COULD be there and request a reversion! What would you do with your last $4? I would go to Nectar for happy hour and get myself an en-tire pitcher of Bud Light. Sitting outside in the summer at Nectar with a pitcher and a pizza is about as good as it gets, on a regular day. Their happy hour menu is great - full size pizzas for $5, house special drinks for $3 (there's a different one each day, I like the Patio Daddy-O on Sundays), and the aforementioned $4 domestic pitchers. $6 for microbrews! I mean, you might as well just each order your own pitcher and save the pint glasses for people wanting mojitos. Inside you'll find a large stage, original artwork which I really like checking out every time I go, and upstairs, a pool table and a fun little sectioned off area that you can reserve (for free, I believe!). Sometimes service is a little slow during happy hour but it is because there's usually just one waitress trying to get those pitchers and funny named pizzas to everyone in large quantities. I know I contribute to their workload by ordering lots of everything, so I really can't be throwing stones. The only thing I don't love at Nectar is the happy hour menu bruschetta - it's tiny. Go with the hummus platter. Or just get an extra pitcher (what's another $4??) and drink your dinner. Edited to say: there's a "bar dog" who sometimes sleeps in front of the bar, and he didn't mind at all when I brought my dog, Ellie Bluebell, with me to sit outside and have a pitcher. I wish I could give Nectar "No Stars". Talk about misleading information. I purchased tickets on line (TicketWeb) to go to a show that was advertised to begin at 8:00 pm. It didn't say "Doors open at 8:00". Knowing this is a bar where bands generally start late, I arrived at 8:15 pm on 10/14. Boy, was I surprised when i found out that the band did not start until 10:30 pm!!! I spoke to the "manager?" at the door - Michael B.. He looked at their calendar and confirmed that the show was indeed listed at 8:00. I told him I was leaving and wanted a refund. Michael then very calmly told me, fine and to contact TicketWeb and they would refund my money. Well, today, after being on the phone for 30 minutes with TicketWeb they said 1. They never heard of Michael B. and 2. I should have read the very fine print that they don't refund money. C'mon Nectar. You showcase fine music in Fremont. How about some truth in advertising? I really wanted to see the band. Had I known it started at 10:30 pm, I would not have rushed through dinner and left friends to make it to the show just to sit around in Nectar's bar for 2-3 hours. Seriously, people should not be drinking for 2 and half hours BEFORE the band starts. Oh yeah, the poster INSIDE Nectar said the warmup band started at 9:15, but when I walked by later in the evening after leaving Nectar - the warm up band did not start on time either. read more

Finally made it to the Nectar to see, direct from Cuba, the salsa band Wil Campa Y Su Gran Union, & it was a pretty cool way to be introduced to the venue! I've been in Fremont many a time, and had always wondered what it would be like to see music here. From the outside, the venue looks cool with the huge patio in front. And it gets better inside. The stage is short but wide (like the kinda girls I like), but this makes for more room to dance....well sort of---if the joint is packed, it's going to be hard to dance up in there. I liked that there is a nice balcony upstairs. If you want to chill and get a good view of the show, that's a nice vantage point. And there is also floorspace to dance up there as well! Even though it was a bit loud, the barkeep was able to make our cocktails efficiently & they were good; didn't have to wait long for drinks. The sound was good, the lighting was good, and we just had an overall awesome Cuban party there! Bring back more salsa bands, cuz I'd totally go back!! [PARKING WARNING: be careful where you park. I parked us down near the water a few blocks south and our night ended with us discovering that our car was broken into. Busted the window and snagged our stuff.] read more

So you have to know what you're getting yourself into. Last time I was at Nectar I got into a fight in the bathroom line, helped a bartender pick up pieces of a bottle that smashed when it hit the concrete dance floor and left at 2 in the morning covered head to toe in beer. In a word, Nectar is a shitshow. I wouldn't go here on an average night out in Fremont. Usually I'm careful even when walking past on the sidewalk on an average night out in Fremont. But if a band I like is playing, I make sure to get there early so I can get in before they call capacity. It's small enough to feel exclusive, large enough for dancing - all in all a fun place to hear good music...as long as you know what you're getting yourself into. read more

Helluva HH! (I'd use the term "Triple H", but I think that's copyrighted by a very large WWE wrestler). $5 pizza with great crust, cheap pints and a bucket of 5 Sessions for $9. Get there early for the patio and order the bucket of Sessions. Why? Because 1) It's nice out 2) there is 1 (one!) waitress for the whole place and after your initial order, you won't see her again. If you don't need that much to drink, throw one at her to get her attention so you can order another pizza. read more

What a strange night at Nectar! Traveling through a space-time warp, my ears were greeted with Michael Jackson, and Prince, and nothing BUT Michael Jackson and Prince, (except for the unfair advantage the DJ gave Michael by playing Janet tunes during his floor time) as all of us sweaty dancing people struggled to come to terms with the age-old question: who is KING? Michael or Prince? (Wait - Elvis might be angry!) Well, it's no contest for me, as Prince is a genius. Even Michael himself gave a nod to the-man-who-at-one-time-needed-only-a-symbol-to-identify-himself HOW many times by naming his sons all PRINCE Michael? What's the more important part of that name, ladies and gentlemen? We're all about the well-muscled, "petite-er" than thou man of Purple. But they didn't give his music as much time as they gave Michael Jackson's, at least not before I left. In terms of the club itself (oh - I guess that's supposed to be the point of my review?) it lived up to its club status by almost never having toilet paper in the women's bathroom, having an acceptably sticky dance floor and long waits for drinks at the bar. I did like the outdoor patio, though. Cooling off outside every few songs was necessary in order to avoid passing out and being trampled by avid 80's music fans. (Of which I am one). I give it four stars because rarely have I seen such enthusiasm in club-goers - almost everyone was dancing almost all the time, which just makes for a fun night. Whether that is due to location, atmosphere, or the music played, Nectar got something right. read more

My personal favorite Live Music and Event venue in Seattle. Tucked away in downtown Fremont is the gem that is Nectar Lounge. I discovered this place when I came back home from college 4-5 years ago. Has a fantastic dance floor. A sizeable balcony if you want to get away from all the dancing. Plus it has a giant garage door that opens up to a beautiful patio. For a smaller venue it has so much character and so many places to hang out. Funk, 80's Cover Bands, Total Request Live 90's nights, Ska, Punk, Reggae. This venue does it all. Whenever your looking for something to do Nectar is a solid choice. Always places to park around the venue. You get the vibe of a city venue without the craziness of downtown. This place completely rocked my ass this evening. I got here early after the Boozefest for Cystic Fibrosis to see the Boss Martians play as I was sure that the other 1000 people were going to crash it first and I couldn't get in. Their drinks at the bar kind of sucked, but we can forgive them these little details when a good band is playing and talking shit to the audience who doesn't seem to be jamming to what they're throwing down. Pick it up, people. It's a party, not a funeral. One of the worst experiences I have had at a bar. The bartender was an asshole and I was correct calling him on it. Really, shitty behavior on his part. Appreciated how the rest of the staff handled it, but I should have been allowed more conversation with then manager and the bartender. I also was cheated out of 30 dollars for the show ticket. I had avoided Nectar like the plague. Its in Fremont which is my second least favorite place in Seattle. To make matters worse there are a ton of hip-hop shows there and I am an avid hip-hop fan therefore I miss a lot of fucking shows. I found out a favorite group of mine, Sweatshop Union, was performing there and vowed to suck it up. Fremont, here I come! Nectar is small. That was the first thing I noticed but wasn't a problem for me since I enjoy the small club environment. My friend and I went up to order some brews and oh no! my request for a Manny's resulted in a cup full of foam. The bartender had to run back and connect a new keg. She was deeply apologetic for the mishap and I told her no sweat. I can wait for beer. Boy, can I. It was a great fall night so the big garage doors were rolled up. My friend and I checked out the outdoor area which was quite spacious. There was a crowd but not so much you felt suffocated. My friend and I hung right beneath the roll up doors. It was great being able to hang partially inside Nectar and outside. We got a great view of the stage and honestly the place is small so there really isn't a bad place to be. Despite my Fremont hate I'm glad I decided to check out Nectar. I will be there more often now. No more missed shows for me! read more

Nectar might be my favorite small/mid-sized venue in Seattle. Several reasons. *It sounds GREAT. Solid sound system with great people behind the mixing board. The venue is large enough so you can actually hear all the instruments on stage! *A good variety of shows! Some venues have their niches, Nectar definitely has a broad spectrum of shows with lots of dance, hip hop, R&B, funk, and rock acts regularly rotating throughout their calendar. *There are tables and seats upstairs, so you can sit down and enjoy the show with a nice clear view of the stage. On a warm evening they can raise the garage door, opening up the outdoor patio! Heck yes! *Good drink selection - not ridiculously overpriced, with decent food to boot! *Location. You have a convenience store, Rancho Bravo, and a marijuana dispensary all within a block. *I have also had the pleasure of performing at this venue, and I cannot say enough good about how professional, kind, and accommodating the staff is. Now to address a few of the complaints that have arisen here on Yelp. Not to pick on anyone specifically, but I gotta say something. The parking is bad? Boo hoo. Welcome to Seattle. The ticket said 8pm, but the show didn't start until 9? That's because 8pm is the time the doors open. This is usually how this sort of thing works. The headliner that you wanted to see didn't start until 11pm? Well no shit. This is how concerts work. First there are opening acts - usually more than one, each of which will play 30-40 minutes, and after all of those are done, THEN the headliner plays. This is par for course at literally every concert ever. If all you wanted to see is the headliner, then you shouldn't arrive at 8pm and complain about having to wait around. read more

I'm not much of a club-goer. You won't find me drunkenly dancing on tables (or soberly dancing on tables, for that matter), and I keep the sisters locked and loaded, if you know what I mean. But I do love some good Latin dancing, and apparently Nectar is the place to get your Latin Spicy Groove on. Not the night my cousins took me here, though. Instead of a steamy salsa, I got a great story--complete with taking home a reggae CD by my new boyfriend(?) Jagga. Yup, I cam right in time for AfroBeats night. Not that I have anything against reggae; I just don't usually listen to it. That said, it was pretty fun getting our dance on, even if that meant having to swat off the mens like flies, laughing at the huge amount of white, dreaded hippies, and inadvertently inhaling ganja.... Nectar has a really interesting setup. Pay steep cover (thanks, cousin!), hang up your coat (it's not a checked rack, though), stay and dance inside with the bar, go upstairs and watch others dance while you lounge with the upstairs bar, or cool off outside on the connected patio with another bar. I did like how the patio opened up and aired out the inside; otherwise, I could see it getting really, really freaking hot on concert nights. A fun night that I won't be forgetting anytime soon. read more

NOTE: I'm reviewing this place on the basis of a show, so if you're looking for general bar/food info, I shall direct you to other reviews. I attended the Datarock show recently, and was not only shocked by how horrible the sound was (the bands were also obviously irritated by the lack of skill of the sound guys as well), but how terribly they treated the headliner. Because they let Mad Rad completely stomp over the other bands' sets (they didn't even let Kav get off the stage, and refused to let Esser play until the club SHUT OFF THE SOUND and tried to shoo them away) and didn't assist with any band setup at all, Datarock ended up going on a half-hour late and didn't even get through their entire set before Nectar shut down the lights and shoved everyone out the door. The whole experience was handled so wretchedly, it made me ashamed for the ENTIRE Seattle music scene in general, that international headlining bands got treated such like poo. Good job making us all look like d-bags, Nectar staff. I was gonna head here to see the Neon Indian show in November, too - I WANTED to like this place. And I will admit that the outside bar area seems pretty nice, and I don't know about their food. But for shows, it's wretched. Go elsewhere. read more

There is not a bar venue in Seattle that I find worthy enough to pay a charge for, and maybe Nectar agreed because they negotiated on their own cover charge by 50%...a five dollars savings! The night I came to Nectar, there were three bands of a range of genres. They all seemed to be good... This coming from a 45% sober customer. The drinks also seemed to be good... So the Nectar Lounge has a nice feel to it, staff is friendly, ambience is nice. If you're coming here to chill with people and don't really care about the music that much, you should be fine. If, however, you're planning to come listen to an artist belt out your favourite tunes, please make sure to check how many goddamn opening acts there are. We came by to listen to Phutureprimitive, and were so super chuffed we even arrived ages early to get decent parking (there's no street parking) - and we had to sit through two achingly long sets of some really average opening acts. No offence to the openers, but I came to see Phutureprimitive. I've been to plenty of concerts before, but it took so long to get to the main event, I just upped and left. Seriously. read more

came here for a matt wertz concert and had a pleasant time. the demographic that night was 25-45 yo, both male and female-nice laid back crowd looking to enjoy some fun pop rock music. lots of standing room and ample barstools allowing a cozy and comfy atmosphere. bartenders were accommodating, fast, and friendly. overall, it's a nice bar with a local dive atmosphere and my only gripe is that they don't offer any sweets or desserts :), however, they do allow you to bring in something if you really have the need for a treat. not sure who the sound engineer belonged to when the opening act was performing, but audio definitely needed to be adjusted. the instruments were so loud and competing with the actual artist i couldn't hear vocals or anything else except for loud noises. once matt wertz hit the stage, his personal engineer seemed to appear and all was well. read more

This is my favorite neighborhood bar and lounge. The best part about this place is that they have live music here very often. The music varies in style too which is great. Sometimes it is Rockin, Jazzy, Hippity Hoppin, Raegaeton, Salsa beats , or a Funkilicious party. I always enjoy their happy hour. I know a lot of the people who work here even though it keeps changing. There a few people who are always around like Ken the bartender. A great guy with a nice smile all the time. The pizza used to be amazing but Big Rob is no longer working in the kitchen. The hummus plate is great here. Nice warm pita, tomato/red pepper hummus, cucumbers, peppercinis, tasty olives, and yogurt sauce for just $3!!!!! And the pitchers of beer $5-7 at happy hour are really cheap - Mack and Jack, Pabst and Miller light. Ask about their special Raspberry Finlandia which they infuse themselves. One of the owners also makes a stiff long island if you are having a bad day. Their outdoor seating are draws lots of people on a warm summer Friday. The crowds are different depending on the music. The variety of people it brings in makes it one of my favorite places! read more

Nectar is the best all around joint in Seattle. It has great happy hour, outside seating and they book great music. It is a little bit cramped for concerts but I have to say the bookings trump that. Every time I have been to Nectar I have enjoyed my time. It is the perfect spot to sit out and have cold brews during the summer. Doing well with what they have got. Nectar is located in an old garage in Fremont which was later converted into a baby-diaper laundry service for years. Stylishly re-done as a two floor club the venue has been booking some of the best and most diverse music in seattle. Accoustics can be marginal at times and the small size can get people dancing early on slow nights and leaving early on busy ones (too packed). They added an nice covered outside area and outside bar too. read more

This a great place to see some of the up and coming bands play. The place isn't too big but the you can't beat the price to see some the great acts that roll through here from time to time. The only bad thing about some of the shows is that it can get packed in here real fast and it kind of sucks chilling on the porch outside when it's raining. It's located in Fremont but I feel like it gets less of the frat/sorority crowd that frequents Red Door, Ballroom, and those other places down the street. read more

I stumbled across this bar last night after leaving the arcade. As soon as I heard "Shakedown Street" blasting through the streets from a live band, I just had to check it out. I just had a ginger beer which was good. I was more about the music anyway. Great venue for smaller shows. It was packed and people were happy and dancing. Such a good vibe in there!!!! Wow, am I ever old. Wow, am I ever un-ironic. Wow, am I ever deaf. None of this, however, is necessarily Nectar's fault. The show was good, I could see, and the pizzas looked pretty tasty. It didn't help that Mr. M. forgot his ID, so we were down on the "dance"? floor with the all-ages kids and noplace to sit. I came to the Nectar Lounge for the Love and Light and Pega5u5 show. I had never been here before so it was a good chance to check out a venue I had walked by several times before. Pros: Security/front-door was quick and efficient Quick, knowledgeable, and helpful bartenders Outside covered and heated patio/smoking area Drinks were inexpensive (I bought at least three drinks and even with tip, the tab was under $20 so was a pleasant surprise. I only mention this because somebody else had posted drinks were expensive?) Plenty of parking nearby Cons: Dance area inside is a bit small during the winter months, but I'm sure in the summer when they open garage doors it's much bigger and better.
