International Cheese - Sandwiches of the day

This is a great little independent cheese shop somewhat hidden away in Liverpool Street Station…read more The shop - as its name says - stocks a wide variety of cheeses from around the world (well, mainly Europe), with cheeses from France, Switzerland and Italy being particularly well-represented. I once found Džiugas, a cheese from Lithuania, here, though have not seen it recently, and was really pleased because, well, it's very tasty, and it saved me from having to fly to Vilnius just to get a taste of it once more. In addition to cheeses, this shop also stocks chutneys, cake mixes, biscuits, jams and sandwiches. The sandwiches do seem to be priced quite reasonably, and when I popped in one evening, were going for buy two for the price of one. I haven't tried them myself as I don't quite like their range of breads (white sandwich bread and baps). Staff are nice and friendly and happy to look for and suggest cheeses in accordance to your needs. International Cheese also offer cheese hampers, boxes and wedding cakes, so it's a great place to pop into for gifts as well.

Fabulous little shop specialising in cheese of course. If you want to get some Stinking Bishop or a…read moregenuine Swiss fondue kit this is the place. Or for some bloomin good Cheddar They don't just do cheeses though. They have a mouth watering selection of chutneys and preserves. Loads of pates (including Fois Gras I'm hoping it's the ethical version I don't want to ask), port, and even Kendal Mint Cake. If I had to sum up this place I'd say it was a British Deli, if such a thing exists, and allowing for the occasional Swiss and French cheese They also do an excellent range of sandwiches. With the exception of a token turkey sandwich they all include cheese. And of course it's not just cheese, but specified types of cheese, whether cheddar, brie or soft, in ploughman's, with chutney, with ham etc. All fresh cut and simply wrapped in clingfilm. Prices start under £3, so very competitive too.

I made a visit to Fortnum & Mason when my husband and I were visiting London a week or so ago and…read morehad such a great time. Fortnum & Mason is department store, but it's not your average department store. It's a food department store? I don't even know if there's a word for that! Founded in 1707 in the St James's/Piccadilly area of London, the store is modern but has retained some really incredible historic details: the mechanical clock on the facade, a double-helix staircase, and more. They sell tons of biscuits, tea and coffee, hampers (we call them gift baskets in the US, I think?), candy, chocolates, and more. Everything is beautiful and beautifully displayed. In the biscuit section of the store ("The Biscuitorium"), they sell roughly 70 flavors of biscuits and have an incredibly intricate replica of the store made from biscuits - like a most beautiful biscuit doll house you've ever seen. If you head downstairs, there's also a fantastic food hall and their fancy Wine Bar & Restaurant. After buying a few tins of biscuits upstairs, we went downstairs to the wine bar, where we ordered their Oysters & Champagne deal (6 Carlingford oysters and two glasses of Blanc de Blancs). Other than the oysters taking a bit of time - they brought us some extra Blanc to make up for it and the oysters' adductors muscles not being disconnected prior to making it to us, it was a great little break/snack during our first day of touristing around London! I'm not usually a shopper on vacation. But I make exceptions for stores with history, and Fortnum's has that in spades. It's a great place to stop for some edible souvenirs!

Before leaving London, I had to pop in…read more Starting my day early in the Parlor, I grabbed a small bite. My waiter was most genteel and even brought me a surprise birthday sweet treat! Post-nibbles, I traversed each floor, of course, settling on teas to acquire, for the trip home. F&M has a wide array of teas, some familiar and some which are signature to the brand. The staff are quite eager to assist, and properly demure when doing so. After completing my shopping, it's quite easy to admit that I'm now a tea snob, from this point going forward. LOL
