International Cheese - Sandwiches of the day

International Cheese

Liverpool Street / Broadgate

This is a great little independent cheese shop somewhat hidden away in Liverpool Street Station…read more The shop - as its name says - stocks a wide variety of cheeses from around the world (well, mainly Europe), with cheeses from France, Switzerland and Italy being particularly well-represented. I once found Džiugas, a cheese from Lithuania, here, though have not seen it recently, and was really pleased because, well, it's very tasty, and it saved me from having to fly to Vilnius just to get a taste of it once more. In addition to cheeses, this shop also stocks chutneys, cake mixes, biscuits, jams and sandwiches. The sandwiches do seem to be priced quite reasonably, and when I popped in one evening, were going for buy two for the price of one. I haven't tried them myself as I don't quite like their range of breads (white sandwich bread and baps). Staff are nice and friendly and happy to look for and suggest cheeses in accordance to your needs. International Cheese also offer cheese hampers, boxes and wedding cakes, so it's a great place to pop into for gifts as well.

Fabulous little shop specialising in cheese of course. If you want to get some Stinking Bishop or a…read moregenuine Swiss fondue kit this is the place. Or for some bloomin good Cheddar They don't just do cheeses though. They have a mouth watering selection of chutneys and preserves. Loads of pates (including Fois Gras I'm hoping it's the ethical version I don't want to ask), port, and even Kendal Mint Cake. If I had to sum up this place I'd say it was a British Deli, if such a thing exists, and allowing for the occasional Swiss and French cheese They also do an excellent range of sandwiches. With the exception of a token turkey sandwich they all include cheese. And of course it's not just cheese, but specified types of cheese, whether cheddar, brie or soft, in ploughman's, with chutney, with ham etc. All fresh cut and simply wrapped in clingfilm. Prices start under £3, so very competitive too.

A simply brilliant cheese shop. It looks a bit foreboding from the front because there's a big…read morecurtain to keep the smell in (I mean, it's a shop full of mature, delicious cheese), but step inside and it's a lactophile's dream come true. They have a fantastic range, and the lady in the shop was perfectly happy to chat and let us try samples and tell us all about the different cheeses. They also have a little offcuts basket, so if you want to buy little pieces for 75p a go, you can take small pieces of cheese instead. It's a hidden gem - my partner and I have now started a cheese fund so we can treat ourselves here every now and then!

Of course we stopped to look, being from Wisconsin, and they looked up, smiled at us, then went on their way working. On the way back past the store, we had a go in! It's tiny, separated by a plastic curtain into a refrigerated area holding hundreds of varieties of European cheeses. Since we typically stop in the afternoon for a cheese snack, we thought we would buy some and take them back to the flat. We chose a Shropshire blue, Emmental from Switzerland and a soft cheese from France. The store was spotless, these ladies were very accommodating and knowledgeable and for 12 Bucks bought enough for a few days. The recommendations were excellent. This store is highly recommended on your trip to London.
