When we first began our search she asked me what were the things I wanted in an apartment. I was looking for the following: -Large bedrooms -Lots of natural light -High ceilings -Attractions nearby the building -Kitchen with lots of storage space -Nice renovations in the entire apartment Once we began to look at apartments I was surprised that I liked all of the places. Throughout our appointments, we met and viewed apartments on 3 different occasions, our showings just kept getting better. Finally we walked into an apartment that met all of our requirements. Agueda was consistent, responsive, supportive, attentive and a listener in finding my new apartment. She has been working in real estate in NYC for 5 years and will honestly tell you the truth about an area, apartment or situation that you are about to walk into. On top of all that she is just a great person and very pleasant to be around which matters because apartment hunting in NYC can be very stressful. If you are looking for a place and want a native who knows the city well and will give you honest transparency about the market here give Agueda a call.

Through street easy, I found a nice apartment and contacted the agent (it was the agent's exclusive so no choice!). I met Linda at her office and she jumped us in her car to the apartment and saw how quickly I didn't like it. Rather than (as most do) saying good luck, Linda took me to a handful of other apartments and helped me to navigate the area as I moved from Harlem to Sunnyside (and I knew nothing about Sunnyside!). Linda even showed me an apartment she knew would be available and I really liked the place. She made the paperwork super easy, is always available, and is still a great contact for neighborhood needs. She made sure the apartment was cleaned and painted and helped walk me through all the ins and outs of the place. I can't say enough that I really dislike using a broker and paying the fee. Linda was very reasonable with the fee, and I actually felt that she worked for the fee (again, big firm brokers just want and get the fee using exclusive listings, but Linda took the time (as a very local broker firm) to make sure i was taken care of. I would recommend her to anyone looking in the queens area - she even showed me some co-ops, but didn't feel ready to do that (she was helpful in starting to help me think about it though) and if I choose to go that route I will use her!

My experiences with Berkeley Cooperative Towers Section 3 Housing: Berkeley Cooperative Towers…read moreSection 3 in Woodside, NY, is a place where the only thing older than the 60-year-old garage is the mindset of the slumlord-style co-op board. Their latest masterstroke? Voting to deny a disabled resident the right to install an electric car charger. It seems the board is on a mission to protect the garage as if it were one of the Egyptian pyramids--a sacred relic that must remain untouched by modern conveniences like, you know, electricity. Living here feels like stepping back in time. The board must believe we're still in the Ice Age, where Neanderthals roamed, and mammoths were the preferred mode of transport. Electric cars? Laughable. But if you've got a horse-drawn carriage, you might just score a prime parking spot. Perhaps they're waiting for Christopher Columbus to stumble upon the garage and marvel at its complete lack of progress. Or maybe they think a few windmills will power the building's future--a charmingly delusional plan in a world racing toward electric vehicles. Meanwhile, other co-ops are adapting, upgrading, and increasing their value, while Berkeley Towers clings to the past like a dinosaur stuck in tar. Let's talk about property value: Without electric chargers, this co-op is plummeting in appeal faster than a woolly mammoth falling off a glacier. Who wants to buy into a place where the garage is a time capsule, and the board actively works to deprive garage owners of basic amenities like electricity? It's as if the board is committed to running the property into the ground--true slumlord like behavior at its finest. So, if you're nostalgic for the Stone Age, enjoy declining property values, and want to be ruled by a board that thinks progress is a threat, Berkeley Cooperative Towers Section 3 is your dream home. Just leave your electric car--and any hope for the future--far, far away.

Because we just moved in, I wanted to withhold ratings for now and update this review at the one-year mark. However, since Yelp will not allow a post to publish without a rating, I am assigning a 3/5 star rating purely as an interim score for the algorithm. The apartment itself has great bones; it was handed over freshly painted and exceptionally clean upon move-in. The trimmings and finishes in this railroad-style unit are of higher quality than we are used to, every room features ceiling lights, and both the kitchen and bathroom have windows. Furthermore, Mr. Jake L. has been excellent, precise, and highly responsive to all of our communications. However, there are some downsides? We discovered a roach infestation immediately upon moving in. While Jake quickly connected us with pest control, the exterminator warned us that eradicating them will be a long, years-long process. We are also experiencing secondhand cigarette smoke from other units/street? leaking into our apartment. With a young child in our home, this is a major health concern, and we currently have no clue how to address this issue or get it resolved besides running an air purifier at max speed. Additionally, the condition of the stairs leading up to this fourth-floor walk-up does not inspire much confidence. While we knew during the lease signing that there would be no elevator, laundry, or live-in super, and we have successfully made the required lifestyle adjustments, the lack of an on-site presence remains anxiety-inducing. This is especially true because we have experienced major leaks, flooding, and gas leaks in past apartments, but due to having on-site supers', we were always able to get help expeditiously. Rialto management provided a 24/7 emergency number, but not having a physical point of contact on the property keeps us on edge. While building management is communicative, we ultimately have to see how the pest issues, the smoke infiltration, and the lack of an on-site super play out over the course of our tenancy.

His office was also very quick to issue refunds of deposits whenever my application was not the first one in and not considered. I know Steve's central goal is to make sure people find a HOME and not just to get them into just "any" apartment as fast as possible. There were plenty of times Steve could have just told me to take X apartment but he knew I was looking for a special spot for my young son to grow up in and he worked hard to make sure I was completely comfortable and would not settle until the exactly right fit was there.
