The location had previously been home to the King's Court restaurant. Kearney (a bartender) and Kardos (a chef) had previously worked there, while Rizzo and Hey were customers there. When the owners of King's Court were looking to sell the location, Kearney approached Rizzo with the idea of opening their own restaurant. Rizzo has a background in marketing while Hey manages accounting. The focus of the menu is primarily craft burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, tacos, wings, and other various pub food staples. They also feature an impressive craft beer selection. I was recently at Liberty Rock Tavern for a fundraising event for the Closer To Free Ride. After scanning the menu, I decided to order the Bada Bing Bird: a crispy chicken sandwich with pesto, provolone, roasted red peppers, prosciutto and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious!!! It paired really well with a couple of cold craft brews. Liberty Rock also has a food truck which visits breweries and other various locations around the state. While visiting Tribus Beer Company a couple of years ago, Liberty Rock was the food truck that day. I ordered their Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich (with crispy bacon, ranch, B&B pickles, pickled Jalapeños, and American cheese) with a side of Waffle Fries. I think it may be the best chicken sandwich I've ever eaten!!

A Shore Thing: Diving into Delight at Lazy Lobster 6…read moreBroadway, Milford CT. Nestled along the shimmering shores of Walnut Beach in Milford, CT, the Lazy Lobster (now under new ownership) beckons with its inviting charm and coastal allure. Upon entering, you're immediately enveloped in a warm, nautical atmosphere adorned with marine-themed decor--think driftwood accents, maritime photographs, and vibrant hues reminiscent of the sea. The gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore creates a soothing soundtrack, while the salty sea breeze mingles with the aroma of fresh seafood, making every breath feel like a mini-vacation. The outdoor dining area, complete with charming tiki umbrellas, invites you to soak up the sun while enjoying your meal, offering a refreshing breeze from Long Island Sound. The restaurant features two bar options: the front bar, which overlooks the street and opens to the outside, allowing you to sip cocktails while enjoying the coastal vibe, and the back bar, a full-service bar that's cozy and enclosed within the restaurant, perfect for a more intimate setting. The menu reads like a treasure map for seafood lovers, boasting dishes as fresh as a sea breeze. The standout is the Lazy Lobster Roll, available in three sizes: the 4-ounce, the 6-ounce, and a generously portioned larger option. Each roll is piled high with succulent lobster and served on a buttery baguette (yes, you read that right--a baguette!). You can also opt for the hotdog bun version, inviting you to dive in with reckless abandon. Accompanying it are crispy fries and tangy coleslaw, creating a delightful contrast to the richness of the lobster. My companion tried the butter-poached lobster tacos, which come with tomato salsa, avocado, and lime-cilantro dressing, showcasing the ocean's bounty wrapped in corn shells--delicious, even if she prefers flour tortillas. To wash it all down, we sipped on cocktails: the Lucky One High Noon Lemonade and the house Margarita, each refreshing as a dip in cool ocean waves. As you savor your meal, tales of Milford's rich maritime history add intrigue to the experience. The area is known for Charles Island and Captain Kidd, with whispers of lost vessels and ghostly apparitions of sailors who never returned. This lore enhances the atmosphere, making each bite a connection to the sea's mysterious past. Quinn, our server, embodies the spirit of the restaurant--welcoming as the tides returning to shore. Her extensive knowledge of the menu is impressive, and her willingness to share stories about the Lazy Lobster's history makes the dining experience feel personal and engaging. Her attentiveness and friendly banter create a sense of community, reminding you that good food is best enjoyed with good company. The Lazy Lobster is more than just a restaurant; it's a "catch of the day" in every sense. With delectable dishes, a vibrant atmosphere, and service that feels like a warm embrace, this beachside gem promises a "whale of a time" that lingers long after the last bite. If you're seeking a taste of the coast with a sprinkle of local charm, this is the place to drop anchor.

Sharing my dining experience. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great!…read moreWe were seated inside the dining area with the AC. Which is totally fine except from the door being open big black flies were circling all of the costumers including me as I was trying to eat. Everyone dining was frustrated from that. I also want to comment on the decor of the inside, the remodel is new but the tables and chairs feel like a hotel common room space. I didn't understand and didn't match the outside beachy feel. But I'm mostly mentioning the furniture bec the small circle tables by the bench are so small it is difficult to fit both plates, drinks, silverware, etc. It wasn't a comfortable dining experience which I will comment on later in the review. Our waitress was nice but inattentive. We did not really even see her and our food took a long time. (Tables seated after us were served before us or noticeably quicker) during the wait time we did not see or hear from our waitress. Had to ask another person for the missing butter on my plate. I ordered the 1.5 lobster which was $38 and overcooked. It was difficult to break its shell bec of that and I had to ask for scissors. The meat was dry and firm. Also, I did not like the plating as it was so small you didn't have room to put the parts you didn't want and the liquid was making the lettuce stick to everything; on top of an already small table it was just a messy, crowded, fly biting experience lol. I encourage the restaurant to think about redesigning the plate as it is an iconic meal off their menu. I also found it interesting that none of the sandwiches came with fries besides the lobster roll or if you got a burger. And unfortunately they were out of oysters which I wanted to order. The mac and cheese was bland with no flavor. But the clam chowder was yummy! And the Hawaiian burger was good as well.
