The place was cute and had a variety of gourmet looking cupcakes and specialty cakes. When we arrived, our cakes were ready to go and looked really good. (see photos). Both cakes had a 'spilled martini glass' theme with olives, etc... The smaller cake was supposed to be chocolate with raspberry and the larger sheet cake was lemon. I guess people must buy these cakes for looks only. They held up really well in the transport of the cakes to the party. The birthday boy was impressed with how they looked as was everyone else at the party. The problem came when we went to taste them. They weren't good. The larger lemon cake was incredibly dry. It even looked a little overcooked when you saw the cake itself. The chocolate cake was much more moist but there was no raspberry. There was some other type of frosting between layers. I don't know if they just messed up or there was a miscommunication, but there was definitely no raspberry. I love cake and I especially love chocolate cake (check out what my last meal on earth would be on my Yelp profile), but this cake was just not good. It didn't taste awful, it just wasn't worth eating. I took one bite and I was done. In the end we were left with two cakes that no one wanted to take home. No one at the party wanted pieces to go and I think the cake it still sitting uneaten somewhere. A very weak 3 stars for very nice presentation but cake you just don't care to eat.

After we completed our errands this afternoon we decided to stop in to The Nest for a round of drinks and appetizers before returning home. We had the pleasure of being served by the owner himself, who is an extremely friendly and polite gentleman. The vibe upon walking in immediately felt casual and welcoming. The owners passion for what he does shines when he speaks about the menu and about the restaurant. He was extremely attentive despite being short staffed this evening, and being it was our first time in he took the time to explain that the restaurant uses only locally sourced ingredients, and makes as much as they can from scratch in house. The drink menu is pretty expansive and is full of many craft cocktails that are not commonly found elsewhere. Being someone who loves a French 75 and a Tom Collins, I was happy to see both. You'll find many specialty flavors of margaritas, gin and tonics, and smoked cocktails all made with locally distilled spirits. Additionally, they have a nice selection of local beer, wine, and cider when available. As far as the food menu, there are few (if any!) other restaurants I can honestly say I would be willing to try every item on the menu, but this is one of them. There is a unique collection of dishes and options for everyone, with entree options varying from red meat, to seafood, to gluten free, to vegetarian. We opted for two of the appetizers, the baked Brie and nuts and the bison carpaccio. Both were exceptional and fresh tasting. The quality of the ingredients used is apparent. This place will have to be one of our go-to spots from now on. The service is enough to keep you coming back, but we are so looking forward to trying everything else the menu has to offer.
