Assisting Hands - Meet the owner of Assisting Hands Palm Beach: Marina Ramirez

But I hope that when you read this it will help you to make the call to bring what will shortly feel like extended family into your home. I still remember the angst my wife and I felt when it was time to go back to work and we needed to hire a nanny. Who's going to love and take care of my child as I would. This is what we all felt going through search for the right people and we knew as soon as we met Marina we'd found the right place. Even though she was going on a big trip the very next day, she come over and sat with my mom and I. She wanted to get to know my mom, and learn what was happening with her health. She wanted make sure she had the right person on her team, who had the necessary tools to assist my mom where she needed it, but also give her the space she desired when she wanted it. Marina's team understands the word dignity. And they understand empathy. They realize that many times when they are called this may be the first time someone may have the need to have home care. The search for the right team is hard work. But Marina's team also understands the stress, fear, perhaps even anger felt by the person who needs assistance. This is a loss of freedom and control that for some, can be very difficult. It can bring emotions to light that are unexpected. The experience Marina's team brings in situations such as these reminds you that you have hired not only someone who can be there when your mom is hungry and can make her a home cooked meal, but a professional who has been there before and can help to ease those situations where there's someone who may be scared or perhaps dealing with a sense of a loss of control. Whoever does the intake will get ALL the details! What they like to eat what they don't. When they like to rest and when they are most active. What's the med schedule? Is there an exercise program? Are there therapists coming in for PT, or Occupational therapy. Once ALL of the details are understood a schedule is made and before you know it, you and your loved one will be meeting your new new caregiver. My mom was with a wonderful woman who ultimately became her right hand. She was an absolute professional who charmed my mom as well as my sisters and I. We felt lucky to have her in all of our lives. We could be with my mom whenever we wanted. There was no feeling of awkwardness or anything like that. And the amazing part, was when it was time to leave, we didn't have to worry. We new our mom was in the best possible position with that someone who we knew truly cared about our mom and her well-being. You know you've been in that spot when no one answers and the panic starts immediately?? And if we had any questions or concerns we could give my mom's caregiver a call and she'd be there to answer the phone. That alone...I know you get it. As a post script I'll also include a brief note concerning our insurance coverage. Assisting Hands did a great job of making this part easy for us. For the majority of the time they were with my mom the insurance company was fair and provided the coverage that my mom needed. However there was a very unexpected change that occurred in coverage at one point. The kind of change that makes most of us hate insurance companies....The details are unnecessary, but I want you to know that Marina and her team were staunch supporters of ours throughout the struggles we had with the carrier and we were reminded once again of the true partnership we knew we had with Assisting Hands.

SERT Data Recovery

Ended up going with another outfit and paid less than half what I was quoted by SERT, and when I informed "Todd" from SERT that I had paid $400. (which would have been $300. with the outfit I went with, except that my drive was encrypted so it cost an extra $100.) and recovered all of my data, Todd replied (after-the-fact of course) that I would have paid less with them, which is absurd based on that he was arguing beforehand about how his $899. fee was reasonable. It would appear that there are "two" Todds, because sometimes he replies with somewhat helpful messages and other times seems to be irritated and writes negative emails that appear to stem from insecurity and resentment that other companies out there are thriving charging far less for the same services. My advice would be to avoid SERT at all costs - from what I can see, this is another of those outfits that gets hold of your broken drive and then extracts whatever they can from you. My review is based on the inconsistent quality of customer service and that they quoted me $899. and assured me that no one could do the job for less, and then had the gall to try and claim that they would have done it for less, after I did find another outfit that did do the job of 100% data recovery. Very unprofessional attitude. In sum: this is how the "data recovery game" works: most all of these guys are more crooked than a barrel of snakes and will extract as much as they can out of you once they have your drive. Some will quote a very low initial price and then once they have your drive will quote something like three hours of work at average $300. per hour - others like SERT will quote you around a thousand right from the getgo - in sum, most of these guys try to get the magic figure of around $1000. from you. If you can, as I did, find a place with great reviews and a flat fee that is reasonable, go for it. Yes, data recovery is not cheap, yes it will cost you a few hundred dollars, but no, there is no reason to pay more than that, not even for "chip off" USB drive recovery, it still should not cost more than a few hundred dollars. Do not pay more than a few hundred regardless, hold your ground, and you won't go wrong. I gave them two stars (versus just one) because SERT was up front about price gouging - versus some of the others that lure you in with some hope that they will charge little, and then end up charging as much or more than SERT anyway. P.S. Be wary of five star reviews for companies that come from Yelpers with just a few reviews....

Our external hard drive with over a TB of data was 80% recovered and the turnaround time was less than 24 hours. The 20 years of videos, photos, and music was worth every single penny. Yes, there are cheaper places out there, BUT my IT friends all had the same recommendation, SERT. I did a Yelp quote with another business and even they recommended SERT. I would absolutely use Todd again. Again, yes it is super expensive, but this man has an amazing skill set and it is worth the price.

Miina walked me through everything and made this very difficult time more tolerable. I am so grateful for how nice, patient, empathetic, and caring Miina was with me and my needs. Miina arranged the priest for the service as well. At a time when I could not tolerate decisions or problem-solving, Miina stepped up and made sure to help me make my husband a nice service, memorial and military honors and burial. I would have been lost. All County is a very busy funeral home. Yet, Miina explained things like time-sensitive forms for death certificate and the importance of checking that the information I put on this form is correct or it will lead to long delays to have the death certificate corrected. She checked with me two times before she submitted the form I was responsible to fill out for the death certificate both by email and the phone so I understood the significance of checking every letter and number. I appreciated that she checked two times, knowing I was struggling to pay attention. This is a form filled out not by staff, but by me - the person burying the loved one. She made sure I understood that how I fill out this form is how it goes to relevant agencies. Miina always responded within the same day to emails or calls and she always let me know if she would not be available on certain days. At the end of the day, funeral services are a busy non-stop business. I always felt taken care of by Miina. Of course, I also did not expect things to be done for free - I requested services and expected to get the chosen services for stated fees which are provided to us. I see reviews of people being angry because they expected a business to provide a service for free or angry because the person filled out that death certificate data form wrong, so they blamed the staff when the staff does not fill out that form for the death certificate - the family member is responsible for that form. I get it. It is a hard time, things are hard to process, and it is really hard to pay attention. I also get that I am not the only person to which they are providing services. In addition, there are other agencies the funeral home has to work with and has absolutely, no power over how and when those agencies get things completed. Yet, with all the complications of working with multiple outside agencies to complete everything so we can get to the service - I felt looked after by kind, caring, and empathetic staff - always! I found Miina and All County to be honest, informative, helpful, up-front and really caring and compassionate. I found Miina to be thoughtful and conscientious in her efforts to make things easier for me. She was a helpful guide and I am so very grateful for her going above and beyond in ensuring the things I asked for were completed even when I was not capable of following through or following up. I recommend Miina and All County because they showed up for me! I do point out that the individual also has to manage expectations - in other words, unrealistic expectations always lead to disappointment. I was not disappointed in any way whatsoever. I expected to buy the services I requested for the prices printed. I was pleasantly surprised by a staff that goes above and beyond - they truly care and are sincere in their desire to do the best they can. Thank you Miina and thank you All County!
