To Goodwill Customer Relations & Management, I am writing to…read moreformally report an upsetting experience at your (A1A Palm Beach Gardens) location on Sunday, Sept 27 involving a staff member identified as Joe. As a regular customer and vintage enthusiast, I frequent Goodwill often and have always appreciated supporting your mission. However, the behavior I experienced this past Sunday was entirely unacceptable and inconsistent with Goodwill's core values of community respect and service. The store's listed closing time was 8:00 PM. I arrived at 7:45 PM, fully aware of the time and intending to make a quick 5-minute visit to look for specific items in what is a relatively small store layout. Joe wasnt happy when he saw me coming. Shortly after arriving, Joe began yelling at my party to leave because it was "almost 8 PM." Rather than issuing a standard, professional courtesy announcement regarding closing time, he spoke to us with extreme hostility and raised his voice. When I directly expressed my shock at how he was addressing paying customers, his aggressive tone did not change. Furthermore, when mentioned that this poor treatment would be reflected in a customer review, he dismissed the concern entirely, stating that he "didn't care" and that we could write whatever we wanted. While I fully understand and respect that staff need to prepare for closing, there is a clear distinction between giving a standard closing announcement and verbally screaming at customers who are shopping during posted operating hours. Treating patrons with blatant disrespect damages customer loyalty and reflects poorly on your organization. I am requesting that leadership review this incident, address Joe's conduct with appropriate retraining on customer service standards, and follow up with me regarding how this matter is being handled. Thank you for your attention to this issue. I look forward to your response.

The store is small inside but packed with clothes, accessories, perfume and cologne, and a few home goods. They had a nice selection of purses. Items were both new in package and used. For instance I saw new bedsheets and comforters, some clothes still with tags, and children's shoes. Outside they have a few books, artificial floral arrangements and plants, appliances, and other large items including a bicycle. The store is operated by a family and the kids were playing while the adults sat outside. I am more of a vintage shopper so the items here weren't really my taste but I would stop by if you needed inexpensive clothes and shoes or perhaps something for a residence starting out.

Yes. At first I thought there was only a main room with crafting items, miscellaneous new stuff, home decor, movies, and electronics and a room with clothes and accessories but I saw a couple coming out of a side door. If you go through it, there is another huge room filled with furniture, books, crafts, and tools. Interesting find in the front room, a pair of signed ballet shoes but I couldn't make out the signature. I ended up purchasing a brand new Alex wooden dragon castle set for my students for $10. It is going for $40 at Walmart right now. If you are into crafts they have tons of crafting items. This thrift store is for anyone who likes to hunt and doesn't mind if they have to dig around. I am pleased with what I purchased so it was a win for me. I'll probably be back to raid their craft bins.

Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. This Goodwill in West Palm Beach operates as part of the Gulfstream Goodwill which operates in 5 counties, Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee, St. Lucie, and Indian River. There are 27 retail locations, 2 outlets, and 41 donation centers. Gulfstream Goodwill Industries Inc., was founded in 1966 by former Mayor of West Palm Beach, Ham Anthony who decided to establish a Goodwill enterprise in Palm Beach County. Mr. Anthony brought together local business leaders who shared his vision and created the first board of directors made up of some of the most prominent businessmen in Palm Beach County at that time. They have their own parking lot with some spaces, but you may use pay-for street parking if all of them are taken. (Do not park in residential areas if you're not from the area - you must have a resident pass visible in order to park in residential areas, unless you're in a marked pay-for parking spot.) The shop is very well laid-out and organized with clear signs labeling where you can find specific items. They are donation-based and carry a variety of items including clothing, accessories, shoes, furniture, home decor, kitchenware, books, and entertainment. Staff were friendly when I visited there. Personally, I feel that you can find a mix of prices and items there. Some items were reasonably priced, but there are some higher priced items there. (I did feel one Christmas tree decor item that was metal felt a little steep - I guessed it was $25 but checking the sticker, it was actually $85.) I believe if you look through the items, you can find deals, but please do not walk in expecting a case like these social media stories where you find a rare item and the shop priced it incorrectly for dirt cheap. Overall, it's a good spot to check out once in a while if you're in the area.
