Our Samsung dryer didn't heat up when tumbling, we of course You Tubed what could be wrong and then we're pretty sure it was the heating element. After going back and forth whether or not to buy a new set we decided we would have it repaired. I came across General Appliance Service on Yelp and like the reviews. They charge $79 diagnostic fee that can be applied toward the repair. I booked online for an appointment the next day! It was very easy and received an email confirmation. Rob came out within the two hour window as quoted. Very personable, knowledgeable and wore a mask. He quickly got to work and diagnosed the problem as a bad heating element. He had the part in his car so after a fair price he got to work fixing our dryer. They were very quick to set up an appointment. My refrigerator and freezer were not cooling. The tech was very professional got to work. The coil was all frozen up the defroster unit needed to be replaced. He replaced the defroster and defrosted all the ice in and around the coil. The cost was around $400. Moriel came wearing a serious mask and gloves, and he was a splendid technician. He spent a long time taking apart and diagnosing my washing machine and then returning the next day with the appropriate part to get it working again, leaving a spotless work area. I called this company to have my subzero serviced. I paid $700 total for two separate visits and to have a plastic liner replaced. The main fridge still indicated it needed service 2-3 weeks later, so I called the company again. When Rob came back for the 3rd time to my home, he called someone else on speakerphone to help him troubleshoot the issue. I was then told it would cost $2300 plus labor and tax to then fix the issue. I asked him some pointed questions to understand why any sort of leak with a $2300 estimate hadn't been diagnosed previously, as it had just been serviced three weeks prior. I asked him if we could speak to the manager or the person he'd called earlier to assist him earlier to help understand what occurred. He then told me angrily that I'm "rubbing him the wrong way" and that he doesn't like my questions, muttering the F word under his breath by my front door as he walked out. The entire issue after multiple separate visits to my home and the $2300 estimate he gave me was notably incorrect - thank goodness I rubbed him the wrong way and he left - I've paid another company $300 to have the issue correctly assessed and the appliance is now running perfectly. read more

Just finished a service call with general appliance which started yesterday. My three year old whirlpool convection oven started turning on but itself. Over heating and burning food. Rob came out and did basic diagnostics and determined the oven if left plugged in could start a fire, since it was heating up with out being turned on. He said it was related to a power surge and that the mother board which controls the oven was bad. He also looked at my whirlpool French door fridge and was able to correct an airgap and ice buildup issue. Rob returned today with an associate. Both were very professional and knowledgeable about the appliances. I am glad I found them and will be using them as emergencies pop up in the future. read more

Rob came to check our whirlpool washer due to a bottom leak. We showed him a video of the leak as it happened. This is the type of problem that does not occur constantly. He spent some time trying to pinpoint the cause for this leak but was not successful as when testing the unit did not leak. He closed the unit and asked us to call him back whenever we see the leak again. I would highly recommend calling this company if you need any appliance serviced. I scheduled an appointment for my Samsung refrigerator's ice maker that kept freezing up. Instead of just fixing it for about $600, they made me aware of a lost class action lawsuit by Samsung that requires them to fix it at their cost not mine, and they aren't an approved vendor of Samsung to do the work. The technicians came out twice to fix a leaking problem on my KitchenAid refrigerator. They were always on time, masked, neat and well mannered. They made sure the first time to diagnose the problem but had to order a part. When they came back to install that part, they noticed another issue that I didn't know about and that they could have ignored, or charged more, but they did neither. I know that I might be the first to write a review here, but with the 50 I have written before, it is rare that I will give anything 5 stars. There is no question that when you really need to have a great appliance repair done immediately, you feel like you are at a disadvantage. We had a refrigerator that stopped working at around 8pm on a Monday evening. Sears Appliance repair told us they could get someone out on Friday. Three other services gave us similar timeframes Wednesday-Friday. This is especially critical for us because I am diabetic and have medicine that requires refrigeration. Rob was there the next morning at 8:30, as promised. He was professional, attentive, fair in pricing and didn not take advantage of us because of the critical time frame.
