I unfortunately cannot recommend Natural Smiles of Orlando (Dr. Mercado's office). In 2024, I purchased a $300 "no-insurance" membership for my son, an Army veteran, which was described as including two cleanings and an X-ray. No itemized invoice or written details were provided, it was just added to the account. During my son's first cleaning appointment, the receptionist claimed he couldn't use the plan. Staff insisted he needed a deep cleaning requiring two additional appointments, quoting $1,400 and invalidating the original plan. We proceeded, assuming the $300 plan would still cover basic preventive care later, as no expiration was mentioned. However, when my son tried to make an appointment in 2026, the office stated the plan had "expired" and was valid for one year from time of purchase and would no longer be honored, despite my payment in 2024 for that specific benefit and the lack of prior notice about expiration. This feels like a deceptive practice. Furthermore, my husband, also a patient, was told he needed a tooth removed. A second opinion from an oral surgeon revealed this was unnecessary. Beyond these issues, the receptionist, who identified herself as the "office manager," needs excessive customer service retraining. Front-facing roles aren't suitable for everyone read more

In July 2025 I had a full-mouth X-ray and two crowns done. On November 4th, I came in for a routine cleaning and to ask about food getting trapped around one of the crowns. They wanted to do an X-ray and exam, which I declined since I had one done just a few months ago. I also declined an exam and asked only for a cleaning. When it was time to pay, I noticed charges for an exam, X-rays, and cleaning. I told the front desk I only received a cleaning, and she checked with the dentist. He claimed he had done an exam -- but he was the one who cleaned my teeth himself, and there was no separate exam performed. I'm disappointed because I was charged for a service I clearly declined and didn't receive. Patients deserve honesty and transparency in billing. Always review your statement carefully before paying. read more

It's so weird to say this but I love going to the dentist! For the first time in my life I don't dread the visit. The entire staff is friendly and Dr. Nguyen makes you feel comfortable. Dr. Nguyen goes the extra mile to make sure you understand what work needs to be done and what he is going to do to fix your smile. (He even took photos of my teeth so I could see exactly what he was talking about! So cool!) Thank you Shine Dental for making the dentist a not so scary place anymore! I've been meaning to write this review, but with a busy schedule, you know how it goes.. So here it goes: I'm new to the area & when I mean new.. I'm talkin' from the west coast to the east coast new. So, like you.. I decided to look for a dentist via Yelp.. as well as Googling up one. Thankfully I came across Natural Smiles Of Orlando & wanted to try them out because of the great reviews. As soon as I called with questions I was greeted with a smile over the phone! Magdia (I'm not sure how her name is spelled) answered all my questions & I always felt she was happy to help any time I called - so this made for a good first impression. When it was finally time for my appointment, the great customer service didn't stop over the phone. I felt very welcomed & everyone there is So friendly! Even the doctor! I also have to say the dental technician is such a ray of sunshine, she is great! Not only that, the place is clean & well updated. I also love the location & there is plenty of parking available. The reviews realy did prove this place to be 5 stars.. & I would give them more stars if I could. I will highly recommend this dentist to anyone I come across. I hadn't been to the dentist in YEARS so when I finally went, I was obviously nervous and waiting for someone to tell me I have a million cavities. Of course, I've gone to the entrust regularly in the past; however, the experience hasn't always been pleasant. I decided to go to Natural Smiles of Orlando since my fiancé has been going to this location for years, but with a different doctor. She visited Dr. Jorge Mercado and said nothing but great things. So, I decided to schedule an appointment. Their staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable. When we were done, they sat and went line by line with me to show how my insurance was applied. I have so much confidence in Dr. Mercado and his staff that I decided to get my wisdom teeth out after putting it off for so long! He's been the only dentist that I have met where I've had 100% trust in performing the procedure for me. It's been a great experience and I'm glad my family and I now have a doctor that we don't dread seeing! read more

I recently switched over to Shine Dental and have had an initial check up, 7 fillings done and a night guard made with them. The office is small, housed in an old bungalow which in this case means more personal attention, no loud customers and a family feel. All the staff are really sweet and Dr. Nguyen is young, energetic and so passionate about what he does and encourages you to ask questions about everything and get out instruments and models to demonstrate things for you. Each time I called to schedule they answer right away or call back, have tons of flexible openings and I have never waited more then 3 minutes before being seen!!! While you're getting procedures done they have blue tooth headphones you can wear and TONS of movies or stand-up comedy you can watch. Just be warned, laughing while they're doing a filling is NOT FUN. The office seems willing to work with you on payment plans for more expensive procedures and would rather you make a no-interest payment plan with them then invest in a care credit card (obviously I can't make promises for their office, this has just been my experience). Most importantly, the work he has done on my teeth has been superb and he personally called to check on me the day after getting 5 fillings done. read more

I just changed over to Dr. Rolando Catral at Shine Dental and I am beyond impressed with him and with the overall experience I've had here. He is young and energetic, and his chairside manner is so professional and calming. It's such a relief to have found a trustworthy and wonderful dentist in Orlando. The office is clean and full of windows, which makes for a more comfortable and significantly less claustrophobic experience once you're in the chair! For my initial consultation and cleaning, the check-in process was modern and fast...x-rays were taken and consulted accordingly...and the hygenist performed perhaps the most throrough cleaning I have ever had. On a follow-up visit, I had to get some fillings, and Dr. Catral's work was both efficient and of superb quality. He also took the time to ensure that my new bite would still work with my retainers, and didn't make me feel like I was cutting into his schedule by staying a little longer for this, which I really appreciated. I have already recommended Dr. Catral to a few other friends and family members in the area who are searching for a new dentist. This dental studio is truly outstanding and I only wish that I had switched dentists sooner. This change is one of the healthiest and best things I have done for myself in a long time. This was my first visit with this dentist and company. They were previously Shine Dental. Luckily, they kept everyone's appointments so you didn't have to reschedule. Bad for me though because my appointment was at 8 and now the new office opens at 8:30. They were going to keep my 8 am appointment but since it was Monday, I kinda slipped through the cracks. So my appointment started late. That was really the only negative thing that happened. I was just there for a cleaning and it was fast and efficient. Staff really friendly and helpful. Fun goodie bag at the end with nice toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash. Overall it was a good experience. No need to dread the dentist. :-) read more

I was told to make an appointment at Shine as it was apparently a Dr that was opening his own practice. So I did on my friends recommendation.. After my first visit I don't foresee me every using another Dentist again. From the moment I walked in the staff was great, Dr Nguyen made the process easy by explaining and showing me all my options. I just went back today for two fillings.. No issues. I can't begin to say enough wonderful things about Dr. Catral and Shine Dental. I had a small cavity turn into a much larger one in a short amount of time, becoming so painful I was having trouble sleeping at night. I haven't been to the dentist in years so I looked for one close to home and I can't tell you how lucky I was that Shine Dental was the office I called. The entire staff is professional, friendly and laid back enough that you feel right at home and it honestly made an emergency root canal a breeze. I actually dozed off during the procedure, how's that for gentle care? Dr. Catral goes out of his way to explain the pros/cons of each situation and also the things that might occur. It's this outright honesty that lets me know I'm in good hands and with an office I can trust. Did I mention the exceptional work? I've had an emergency root canal, crown, cleaning and a few fillings down already and I can't believe I waited this long. I have quite a few things that need to be done and I can't wait to go back in a few weeks. I never would've guessed going to the dentist would be something I wouldn't mind doing! How would I rate it, magical. I had a lot of expectations for my lower left molar, but Dr Nguyen took its virginity with kind swiftness. At first I was worried it'd hurt, but the Rohypnol was very effective. I was told I had a petite, manageable cavity; but once he was inside me the whole story changed. All of the sudden I have a bigger cavity, like its new to him.. Next thing I know, he's "applying pressure". When I awoke he was loading my cavity, like an animal. I broke a tooth, and even though I felt a tad closer to my neighbors (it's the South after all), my California upbringing encouraged me to fix it, and fix it soon. Dr. Nguyen is fantastic. I haven't kept up with dental work in the last few years and it was really time for me to get my teeth cleaned and checked. I picked this office solely based on Yelp reviews. My insurance offers a provider search but the only offices coming up with big, multi-location, franchise practices. Their websites lacked the personal feel I was looking for in a dentist. I wanted to find someone who would get to know me and my teeth. I also wanted someone with great training who would tell me what I really needed to get done vs. a lot of unnecessary procedures. My husband visited one of those multi-location franchise offices and had a Dentist tell him he needed thousands of dollars worth of work. Totally insane because he goes to the dentist 2x per year for maintenance. The best part? The hygienist told him that he didn't actually need the work done and to stick to his routine. Back to Dr. Nguyen - he was exactly what I hoped for in a dentist. First, the office is so cute! It's well decorated and clean. The receptionist is super friendly and they offered me water/coffee as soon as I sat down. The wait wasn't long at all. I arrived early and they actually took me back early. Every other dentist I've ever seen has made me wait past my appointment time. I think most of us can agree that the doctor's office wait is not ideal, so this was a pleasant surprise. They lead me back to a room with lots of funny dental art. Another win! Who wants to look at pictures of fake smiles or gum disease while sitting in the dentist's chair? My guess is no one and Dr. Nguyen agrees. His awesome assistant took x-rays of my teeth and then he came in and thoroughly reviewed them with me. He even took pictures of my fillings that need to be replaced so he could show me exactly what he was seeing. The part I appreciated most was that Dr. Nguyen gave me his honest opinion on my teeth; he was even clear on what other dentists might recommend and what he felt would be right for me. His hygienist performed my cleaning and she was so pleasant. She talked to me throughout and was super gentle. My teeth feel wonderful today! I have Phase 2 of my treatment plan next week and I couldn't be happier with my new dentist. i will be sticking with this office for a long time and I'll be recommending Dr. Nguyen to everyone I know. I have been going to this office since I moved back to Orlando. I am very particular when it comes to my dental professionals and I recommend Dr. Mercado's office to all my friends and family. Not only is Dr. Mercado and his team extremely professional, they are also very thorough and patient. Until today, I hadn't been to the dentist in three years! After having awful experiences with my previous dentists, I've been terrified to return. Nevertheless, when I found a HUGE hole in one of my molars this morning I realized I couldn't put it off any longer. I was able to schedule an appointment with Shine Dental just a few hours later! The building is very easy to find, located on a quieter road near Downtown Orlando. I wasn't sure what to expect, but within seconds of walking through the door I was met with friendliness and smiling faces. I was mortified at the thought of anyone looking at my teeth, but Nelly at the front desk kindly reassured me that everything would be fine - and it really was! The wait time was almost nonexistent as another friendly staff member named Tim quickly took me to get x-rays. When Dr. Duy Nguyen came to see me a few minutes later, he somehow managed to lighten the situation further. He was informative, funny, friendly and honest, much like the rest of his staff! I can't tell you how many dental offices I've been to where not a single person had personality. Luckily, this is NOT one of those places. Everything about Shine Dental is welcoming (and everyone has a sense of humor)! No one made me feel bad about my habits and everyone was intent on making me feel comfortable. There were no unnecessary products or procedures pushed on me and they took the time to explain all my options for fixing my dental issues. I can't stress enough how awesome this office is. So I think we have all come to realize that going to the dentist isn't exactly high up on anyone's fun list. I had been referred to Shine by my good friend who said Dr Duy was so awesome and really gentle and cared about his patients so I thought I had a cavity so I made an appointment after about 3 months of thinking about it haha. It wasn't Dr Duy who worked on me, it was his new dentist and his name escapes me, but he is young and so wonderful and graduated a few years back from NYU dental school, so he is very qualified for the job haha. He was awesome, he explained everything and Come to find out, it was just a weak spot on my tooth but no cavity. I went ahead and scheduled my cleaning and surface filling. I had my cleaning today and I am so impressed! Wayne the hygienists did the best job and was so gentle! I kind of can't wait to go back for my next cleaning! Im so lucky to have found this practice. I had the hardest time finding a dentist that would do a teeth cleaning for me while I was pregnant without getting X-rays. I was able to get in for my much needed cleaning. I honestly haven't been to a dentist in years and I was quite embarrassed but they took away all my embarrassment immediately. I felt very taken care of and my teeth feel wonderful. Not only did they put me at ease but I also wasn't talked down to for letting my teeth go uncleaned for so long. I was actually empowered. They explained everything so it was educational. It was completely refreshing. I can't wait to have my baby so I can go back for a complete cleaning with X-rays. Their hours of operation are spectacular too. I can get my cleanings when most places are closed. Every single person was friendly and informative. Very disappointed ! My experience at this office did not meet my expectations. After I had my cavities removed I started to feel a lot of pain, I called in multiple times about it & was told it's normal & that the pain would go away. So since it didn't Go away I made an appointment to be seen again, to only get sent back home with no results. So now 3 months latter I set up another appointment , that mind you is very hard to do, because I have a 2 year old and I don't have anybody that can take care of him while I get seen, except my husband which is at work until 6pm 6 days a week. It is very hard to be able to get him to leave early to stay with my son so I can get these things done. With that being said I go in for the second time & leave with no results again, only attitude from everybody really, like I'm the one that is wrong, if that makes any sense ! All he did was refer me to see a endodontic specialist. He absolutely Waisted my time going there today, making my husband leave early from work & loose money. He could've just told me that over the phone. I patiently waited all these months & have been very nice to everybody but now I'm just pissed. Very unprofessional!
