1000% had unusual experiences with him. Always felt poorly draped, and he worked in front of a wall of mirrors. He always had a computer screen open. And repeatedly trying to 'work on my tight adductors' by pulling my legs apart. I actually wore bike shorts one time for modesty, and he stated 'this isn't going to work for me' and when I asked him what he meant, he snapped my shorts against my leg and said 'these'. I can't believe how long it took me to figure out that this guy was highly inappropriate and I should have filed a complaint at the time. Stay away! read more

I was sexually assaulted by Ted Johnson. There was no consent or conversation about how Ted practices. Ted touched my anus during a massage session. He also rubbed his penis along my forearm, lifted the sheets inappropriately, and commented on the attractiveness of my body. Agree with all the #metoo reviews. While Ted delivers a good massage, he definitely plays all the tricks described and progresses into invasive and uncomfortable touching (and looking thru the sheet). After s good number of sessions (2018) where he repeatedly used maneuvers too close to my crutch or extending my feet to rest on his shoulder and sometimes feeling this hair in my foot or opening my legs too much, he ignored body language and engaged on asking if I have traumatic issues that need to be addressed. Talks non stop and uses the words sex, sexual, sexy, etc. I ended up wearing activewear at some point and keeping my pants on during the session. Also ignored my nut oil allergy (in the intake notes) a couple times and caused me an allergic reaction. My colleague, also female, had a phenomenal experience and was very surprised about mine. Perhaps there is a type that he is after. Why I continued going back? Suffered a concussion and had no bandwidth st the time to establish a new practitioner, until these sessions became too stressful. I haven't gotten a massage in almost 2 years. A bit of full disclosure here: I've never had a 'Therapeutic massage', and I am VERRRRRY leery of 'alternative medicine'. That said, I'm an now a convert. Therapeutic Massage is a real, and viable form of therapy, and Ted Johnson is the Real Deal. THE ROSES: Lovely therapy space. NFM is in West Seattle's North Admiral neighborhood in a quiet neck of the woods. The practice is in an old but very tidy bungalow. Septimus, the Therapy Cat, prowls about and makes friends of all the patients. Lots of crystals, herbal tea, and other 'new-agey-woo-woo' tchotchkes about. BUT...let's get down to the therapy. I have dealt with low back pain for nearly 40 years. Ted does a serious massage that really seems to make a difference. Is it for real? Well, let's put it this way: Group Health Co-op did a study on Therapeutic Massage, and determined that as effective therapy, it's 'all that', and have selected Ted J. and NFM as PPOs. So yeah, it's the real deal. Besides being very good at what he does and being very professional, Ted is just a very pleasant fellow. THE THORNS: None. THE VERDICT: Therapeutic Massage is real. Ted Johnson is a superb practitioner of same. If your health insurance doesn't include a massage benefit, maybe you need to shop around a bit? Strong recommend! read more

I have been receiving professional massage from Ted for at least ten years. I found him while I was living on Whidbey island and for five years Before moving back to Seattle I drove to Seattle to see Ted--the best decision I ever made. Ted is always professional, on time, courteous, and a kind gentleman. Ted's experience and additional sports massage training have helped me live a pain free life. Ted has given me 100% of his attention during sessions and always wants to be aware of what's going on physically, spiritually, and emotionally in my life--which makes our sessions just that more tailored and effective. I always feel welcomed and made to feel at home and it's always fun to see what's happening in the garden as the season tick by. I saw Ted for a handful of massages to treat whiplash from a car injury. At the first massage, things seemed fine, but then he gradually got too close to personal areas. In my last massage with Ted, he was massaging my abdomen and then put his hands very low on my pelvic area. He said he was checking my uterine health.... Are you F***ING kidding me? There is absolutely no reason why a massage therapist treating me for a neck injury should be doing that. Since then I have seen another massage therapist; I told her what happened and she confirmed that it was completely inappropriate. I know that many people use Yelp reviews when choosing where to take their business like I do, which is why I think it is important to share my experience so that other women can be warned when selecting a massage therapist. read more

Ted Johnson is the BEST Massage Therapist I have ever seen. And I'm confident saying that he will be my guy till the end of time. I am a career fine dining server on my feet long hours on cement floors. I get remarkably tight, knotted and have bouts of chronic pain throughout the year. So, I call Ted and he gets me in stat! Now, I have insurance which he takes, but even if I didn't i know he is reasonably priced, although he is the best massage therapist in town. He also offers 2 locations for ease of scheduling. If you go to SABA the location is modest but clean, and operates as a Multi practitioner therapeutic office. Not a spa, but his room is quite warm, cozy, wooden and tranquil. Now where it gets really special is at his private west Seattle location. Enter the retreat experience! For both mind, body and spirit! Set in a beautiful garden lies the gorgeous cottage Admiral Healing Arts and Ted's Natural Flow Massage. It's worth it to come here if you can, but SABA is great too! Your experience will knock your socks off quite literally! Ted's style is deep and effective. You can work together to penetrate those trouble spots that others just graze past. This somewhat interactive massage explains the energy work he integrates into the massage. You could also lay just there, quietly and fall asleep as you melt into the perfect balance of relaxation and deep tissue massage. Ted just seems to know what you already need. Never again. Not only did he talk nonstop the entire time, but I am pretty sure that was to distract me. Every time I had to roll over from lying on my front to my back he would "readjust" the top sheet by picking it up and fluffing it, like you do when you are making a bed. At first I just thought it was an oversight, because I'm sure he could see everything (I was not wearing a bra). But after he did it again on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th appointment I felt completely violated and never went back. I wouldn't trust this "therapist" at all. read more

Talks non stop! About nonsense. I know more about this man/his exwife/privileged child than I know about some of my closest friends. I talk for a living and all I wanted was a quiet peaceful massage before my day started but I felt like I had to engage in conversation it was very annoying. At times I could tell he was checking his phone or ipad. Massage seemed as scattered as his train of thought, towards the end. Spit flew from his mouth onto my face from the incessant talking and I wanted to scream. Contacted and charged my insurance before the massage after he insisted I pay my 'copay' after. Called my insurance and they said I didn't have a 'copay' and could wait until the claim was processed. Very eager for money and yelp reviews. I will not be returning. read more

Absolutely the best in West Seattle! I've been seeing Ted for close to a year now, and he's helped me actuate some much needed self care as well as recover from getting rear-ended earlier this year. I'd recommend him to anyone, as he is highly qualified and able to help his clients improve their overall health and well-being based on their personal goals. The space he works out of is beautiful and in a certified backyard habitat, meaning there are trees, flowers and wildlife everywhere you look. While communication between the massage therapist and client is critical, and Ted does a great job of communicating with me as a client, he also intuitively communicates with my body. I have had lots of massages where I have communicated my ailments and left the massage without those areas being addressed. That never happens with Ted. He always addresses my issues and still manages to get a complete full body massage into the session. Ted is definitely in my top 5 massage therapists. Thank you to the Yelp users who helped me make my decision to come here for a therapeutic massage. My main concern was, can my Group Health insurance cover this? I've had one session several days ago and, so far, so good! I really felt comfortable here - I met Ted, his wife, other clients, and held/petted the adorable resident male kitty ambassador. Everyone was just wonderful and I felt at ease. I'm not a massage aficionado - only had a handful of massages, but I felt like I hit the jackpot with Ted. Thought I had lower back pain and a tinge of plantar fasciitis in my left foot? But apparently, I have other things to work on. Wow, the power of massage AND mindful thinking. Feel like I am in good hands for this. For someone with a roller derby background, it made my heart sing that Ted has other derby clients (and attends bouts/supports this)! What? Awesome. I felt like I made new friends. Right now, it's the middle of the winter, so the garden is not as apparent, but it looks lovely even in the fading light. The best place to get a massage, whether it is therapeutic or just relaxation. I've been coming here for both in the last few years. The environment is "An urban oasis" like. The garden leading to the cottage as well as the waiting and massage rooms. Calm energy. I do a lot of physical activities, gardening, sports and I have little kids, so I can feel that reflecting on my body. I've had some urgent situations and Ted always does his best to fit me in. I've even brought my mom here when she was visiting and she said she's giving 5 stars. That's huge! :-) Ted is very knowledgeable about a lot of "well being" related things plus he knows exactly where each muscle or tendon is. He's experienced and intuitive. I was in a car accident last year, I knew exactly who I need to see. I always get a great service and feel amazing after my massage. The only things that's not great is that at times it's hard to get in thanks to my busy schedule. I guess, Ted is popular. And I'm not surprised. read more

I have been to a few massage therapists in my life, which garnished little to no results. My particular problem had to do with computer posture and tightness in my psoas muscle and hip imblances. Ted is an extremely talented massage therapist and probably the most knowledgable in regards to postural distortions I have met. After 3 sessions I have seen a notable difference in improvement in balance and tightness and changed some of my dietary habits per Ted's advice. This has worked wonders and made my overall physical health better. I stand straighter and notice my old incorrect holding patterns of sitting going away. I would recommend him to anyone looking for anyone looking for a massage of any type. As far as I know he is one of the only Grouphealth massage provider that deals in highly effective active release techniques. I have had plenty of massages in my life and not many can compare to the way Ted Johnson works on the body and gets to areas where you need that extra attention. He expertly manipulates the body and incorporates various techniques depending on what you need where. Knows how to get deep into the tight spots and knots and moves your body into positions where you can receive the most benefits. If you are feeling tight in some areas he may use stretches. He knows how to find the kinks and relieve them. He also takes health insurance. If you like a very light type of massage he may not be the right masseuse for you otherwise I highly recommend him and the healing he will bring to your life.
