In 2012.I hired National Solar to install 12 solar panels on my residential property. The price was competitive, the crew was efficient and cleaned up after themselves and I enjoyed great savings on my electric bill. In the intervening years, part of the equipment failed and National Solar honored its 20-year warranty and fixed the problem at no additional cost. By 2023, the technology had improved and I hired National Solar to replace the 2 panels with 16 more efficient ones. My next electric bill was under $5.00. I sold my property last August and am computing the cost basis on my home for tax purposes. I could not find the original contracts and receipts for payment, so I called Notional Solar and asked if they still had the records. They did, and emailed copies to me that evening. This company has done an excellent job of selling a guaranteed product, has honored the guarantee and has come through when I requested additional service. We interviewed 4 companies. After 3, we realized that most likely getting solar panels just isn't in our future. Then, we talked to National Solar. For the first time, the sales person knew what he was talking about (my background is energy), he explained their system in great detail, the company has passed state standards re state tax credit, the components are American made, the price was very reasonable, and they could install by year end so we could get the federal tax credits. First I want to say about how easy it was to get set up with National Solar. My wife encountered their presentation at a county fair. Then we had a gentleman come over and got a brief explanation of the process. After we had agreed to sign up with them, there were maybe 2-3 documents for me to electronically sign, but other than that, they took care of all the local / state / and power company paperwork. We did encounter one small hurdle with the paperwork, but it only delayed the process a little bit. They still took care of it all. National Solar is not just another solar company. This one is by far the best because of the exceptional customer service from every department, locally manufactured product (all made in Washington), and quick installation. I went to a housing show at the Portland Expo and there were several solar panel companies as there are at all home shows these days. However, the sales rep at this show gave me a flyer, explained their product and told me about the rebates from the federal government and my electrical company. Combined with the rebates and the savings from making my own power, the system will pay for itself in only a few years. He said someone from his office would call me the following Monday to set up a time to do a free estimate and go over some financing options if so desired. They did indeed call that following Monday and came out two days later. The sales man was very thorough and worked with us on getting the best deal possible since the federal rebates will be going down more and more each year after 2019. We have a 3,000 sq.ft. house so we got 14 panels and with the rebates we will be paying less then $10,000 total for everything! We signed some documents and National Solar did everything else. They got us great financing, got all the required permits, scheduled the install, the inspector and the electrical company to come out to finalize everything. The installers were professional, kind and quick. There was no clean up for us to do inside or out and they did it all in one day (only 6 hours). The project manager was always easy to reach and there for me when I had questions. I HIGHLY recommend this company if you are interested in getting solar panels. Buyer Beware. I was Scammed by the salesman for this company. I was specific when I told him I wanted a system that would allow me to be completely self sustainable when the power grid goes down and he took advantage of my lack of knowledge, he misled me and failed to disclose vital details about the system he was preparing to sell me knowing if I was aware of the details I would not have purchased a solar system from him. I discovered after the system was installed that National Solar is contracted by energy trust of Oregon to sell grid tied systems. This system is completely inoperable when the power grid fails. They left a pull start generator that I discovered later was the back up to the system. When I contacted National Solar and spoke to the general manager I received a tuff luck attitude. I told him if I wanted a generator back up system for my house I would have purchased a whole house generator and not a solar system. He said he would upgrade the generator, that was over a yr ago and they never followed thru. It gets worse. I started receiving huge power bills and shut off notices and found out the system hasn't worked since August of last year. Once again I contacted National Solar, they said they would send me a part in the mail and I still haven't received anything or even know where to go from here. This company sold us a system for $22,000 telling us we'd get an average of $150 per month off of our electric bill. The salesman also told us we would get money back on our federal taxes that we could apply to the balance due on the account (they had in house financing). To date, the highest average we've had is $52 month power generated. As far as a tax refund, it was a TAX CREDIT. No money is received. We are now paying $278/month to get approximately $52.... no where near what we were told we should generate. The touch screen monitor they provided so we could see how much our system is producing has stopped working twice. And lastly, we have to call and call to get any help or try to get any answers. It has been the most frustrating thing we have ever been through. As far as I'm concerned, we were scammed. When I finally made the decision to follow my neighbors and have solar panels installed on my roof, National Solar was definitely the way to go! They measured my roof and explained the best way to lay out the solar panels for the greatest efficiency. After getting all the necessary paperwork done (City of Lebanon, Building Inspectors, Pacific Power, etc., etc., etc.), the panels were installed in one day and I was shown the the process to flip from PacPower to solar power in one easy step. National Solar also offers financing for their solar panels through a credit union in Washington State (Salal CU). They too were very easy to work with and basically did *all* the work for the loan. I'm very happy that I had National Solar install these panels. Now, working with Arcadia to use wind power for the rest of my electrical supply, I am off the grid until I leave this house! read more

We scheduled what we thought was a free estimate with National Solar after speaking with a representative at the Salem Home Show. We were told that if we signed up for an estimate through the home show and purchased solar panels through them we would receive two free solar panels. When a representative came for our appointment, we noticed he was dropped off by a car that had another business logo on the back, and left. The representative glanced at our roof from the front of our house, and asked to look at the electrical box- but took no other steps to evaluate our home or roof. He then sat down at our table and showed us a very simplified youtube video of how solar panels work. We expressed that we wanted to get a new metal roof for our home, and wanted to do solar panels at the same time. The salesman said that they were roofers as well, and would put on a new metal roof at the same time that they installed solar panels. He indicated that houses use between 1800 watts and 4000, depending on the size of home and power uses. We have a very small home, and did not have any of the power using factors he listed, such as hot tub, swimming pool, electric vehicle, or deep freezer. He then said we would need 3500 watts to power our home. We asked what time of home would use 1800, and why we would need near the maximum wattage if our energy needs were so low, and he would not explain and seemed to backtrack the 1800 estimate. It began to be clear that he was just attempting to overload us with information, and throwing out a lot of random numbers, many of which were illogical or conflicting. The salesman went on to calculating "quotes" using a blank piece of paper and an old calculator. The original quote was 35,000 for a new metal roof and enough solar panels to completely cover our electricity usage. He then said that if we signed today, we could take advantage of the two free solar panels offered at the home show, or "the value of two free panels." Somehow, when he made this calculation the value of two panels amounted to $10,000, which did not make sense if $35,000 was to cover a new metal roof, and ten solar panels, plus labor. The new estimate was appx $25,000, but we would have to sign a contract that day to take advantage of the "value of two free panels." We tried to ask questions about the metal roof, and whether he could give us information about the roofing material and options. Despite his insistence that the business was certified and licensed to reroof homes, he did not have any information about roofs, or materials, and began to become rude and aggressive with us. He adamantly denied that there was any variety with regards to metal roofing material. We explained that we had received information and quotes from various roofers, and that was certainly not our understanding. He argued and told my husband that he seemed to be having trouble speaking, which was bizarre and not true. We asked why he didn't have any information to give us about the solar panels he insisted we purchase that day, or why he didn't have any information about roofing choices. He kept saying "its the same as anything else, you can go to home depot, and pick whatever you want." I tried to clarify and asked if we signed this contract today, when would we pick the roof options? and he just said "as soon as possible!" I again asked if he had any information about what roofing choices their "roofing company" could provide, and whether there was any cost difference in choices, and he continued to argue with my husband, saying something incorrect about being in a "free market place" and suggesting that no one has the exclusive right to sell any product, which is of course not true. I said will you give us a solid copper roof if that's what we "pick as soon as possible," and he ignored me. Finally we asked him to leave, because he was arguing with us and very rude, and he was completely unable to give us any information about what we were being pushed to purchase for $25,000 that very day. He had no information about roofing whatsoever, and displayed clear lack of knowledge about the types of metal roofs available. He also gave us no specific information about solar panels, other than a youtube video not created by the company. He had nothing with him besides a badly tattered and dirty tote bag with an old calculator and a notepad, and a strange fake electricity bill with no name or address on it, that was intended to demonstrate what our bills would look like with solar panels. After we asked him to leave, he sat at our table and texted his "ride," then waited outside at the end of our driveway for ten minutes until a woman in a non-company car picked him up. Afterward we felt unsure if he even was employed by the company, as it was clear that his "estimate" was based on nothing and didn't refer to any particular products or services. read more
