I'm not one to write bad reviews but I'm extremely disappointed in my recent experience with Nathan's nails. I had an appointment for 1pm and called that morning asking if they had time to do me and a friend at 1. Nathan told me yes and to come in at 1. At 1:45 he had still not started on me and when I said I would've appreciated it if he honored appointment times he completely lied and said he told me there would be a wait. He proceeded to argue with me and finally started at 1:50. My nails are not even lengths and he was rude about me asking to cut them throughout the service. His wife did a great job with the design but for $70 I expect even nail lengths and a little more respect from the staff. I'll be finding a new nail spot. read more

This place isn't completely terrible, but it's not the greatest either. This was my first time at the salon; I had made an appointment for 2:30 and didn't get started til about 3pm. It seems they might have overbooked, there were only 3 staff members and another woman coming in for a 2:30 appointment as well. Off the bat Nathan seemed completely annoyed two woman showed up with 2:30 appointments. I asked for ombré nails and that I had a picture of exactly what I wanted. Nathan tried passing me off to another nail technician and did not seem to want to work with me. Then when asked if I wanted long or short nails he became annoyed that I wanted long nails. The entire process was rushed he judged the colors I chose and asked why did I pick black it's so messy and hard for him to work with. He went on and on about how Santa Barbara girls only do short nails not long nails and this was too much. He didn't seem to Have good technique or blending skills and complaining the entire time about colors I chose. If he couldn't do what I asked I would have preferred him to just be honest instead of moaning about it and getting mad at me I would have happily accepted it and went with something else. Below are picture of what I wanted vs what I got. I do get compliments on the nails but once people see Them close up the mistakes are hard to ignore. The pinky nail is the worst I asked if he could blend it out he just kept hitting me with "why? Why do you want it like this? Why you do long nails." I personally think he wasn't skilled for the job and just decided to take it out on me instead of admitting it. Not happy about the $75 spent on something I didn't want. But I probably would go back with a more simple design because I did see some nice Simple looks from the other girls around me. Update this place really Effed me over!! My nails have been hurting for a good two weeks now since my natural nails have started to grow out. I tried getting them removed today by dipping them in acetone as I've done many time before when removing dip powered nails. Not only were my nails botched but they used MMA!!!!! This stuff is NOT FDA approved and is even dangerous when applied to your nails!! My nails were super gooey when soaking them in acetone (only mma nails turn gooey during removal) and now I'm left with cuts on my nails, my index finger lost half the nail and pretty bruised and nasty. For using cheap illegal nail acrylic they sure did charge me a lot for some ugly botched nails that would rip off half my real nails! SHAME ON YOU!!! read more

My nails chipped after 2 days. I went in to get one fixed and was told it was my fault my nail chipped and not the product. Funny because anywhere else I go they last at least a couple weeks if not more. Then after I got one fixed literally all but 2 nails chipped in the course of 5 days. Not only that but I have a painful swollen infection on my finger that I'm going to have to pay to get treated if it gets worse. read more

I love this nail salon more than anything else. This is the perfect place for us clients who enjoy quiet, soothing, and enjoyable salons that end with a guaranteed perfect pedicure. Given, I only come here for the pedicures so I can't comment on perfect manicures, but either way this place is a major score. It's best to make an appointment rather than do a walk in merely because it makes the process overall quicker. They usually have many open appointments for day of, all you have to do it call and ask. I've only ever seen 2 people working here, but they both do a great job with pedicures and make the overall time spent here worth it. 10/10, Nathan's Nail & Spa is a slay in my book read more

I went in two weeks ago for a gel manicure and pedicure. I had a previous set that needed to be removed. The whole process was pleasant and everyone was very nice. Water, soda, and jokingly, tequila was offered. The nail color on the fingers were a bit further from the base/cuticle than I would have liked. I feel I need a new set after 2 weeks rather than 3 or 4. The whole process took about 2.5 hours. The price was higher than my usual place in Ventura: $80 compared to $65, which is why I'm giving 4 stars rather than 5. read more

Don't waste your time here, first off they need to improve customer service. Second, their work is subpar and lastly they must not sanitize their tools. I got a fungus after getting my nails done here. I would consider myself a regular at Nathan's. To be honest in the beginning I had my doubts about the nails services here, but I always come back for more! My gel acrylics stay on for weeks. It is reasonably priced with the quality services he provides. He isn't much of a talker, but if you show some interest he will tell you some funny stories. I will keep on coming back. read more

I wanted an acrylic refill and asked for almond shape and Nathan shaped them to perfection. Base price for a refill is $42 and almond shape was $5 extra. The salon is your typical mom and pop shop so nothing fancy, but I will definitely return to see him again. read more

I went here in October for the first time and I loved the way my nails came out! They lasted so long, they never came loose or broke off. I went a few weeks ago for a fill at another salon and they did an awful job. They left big chunks on the side of my nails and they became loose very soon after and one nail fell off. So I went back to Nathan's for a fill and to replace the broken nail. He took one look at my nails and recommended he remove them and start with a new set. He removed my acrylics no charge, took his time, and they came out better than I could have imagined. read more

I got seated soon after and got my nails filled (that i had originally gotten done back at home). Took no more than 45 minutes to do a full of gel acrylic and only $35! I was in the area for a wedding and my usual nail tech only had an appt a week before the wedding. I wanted my nails to look fresh, so as soon as I got to my hotel, I looked up nearby nail salons and brought my mom along. I opted for a gel mani and regular pedi. My mom did a regular mani and pedi. They did a decent job. I've had my gel mani for 5 days and no chips. BUT some of the sides were not painted all the way through and I got a little too much of the clear polish. Minor issues but the job was not perfect. My mom's mani was gorgeous and her regular polish had not chipped days later. Mine ALWAYS chip unless gel so I was really impressed by my mom's mani. A couple of things to note. It was pretty pricey! I live in LA where things are not cheap either and this is probably one of the priciest simple services I have gotten and it was in a no-frills place. My gel mani and pedi was $55 and my mom's mani pedi was $39. The service was a bit slow. We had to wait a bit to get called and then we waited in the pedi chair. Finally, I felt they pushed the extras a little much. However, all in all, it was a good experience and I would choose them again next time I am in town. read more

UPDATE: after seeing this review I received a whole minute and half voicemail of this man cursing me out calling me a b*tch telling me to get out of Santa Barbara and a bunch of other awful things. Yea definitely never coming here again. this was my first time at this nail salon and I'm fairly sure it will be my last time too. I had booked an appointment for 6:30pm, when I got there it was clear that they were understaffed and didn't get started until a little over half an hour later which wasn't a big deal if the nail tech's attitude wasn't so horrible the entire time after. He first asked me what shape nails I wanted which I told him almond shape. After filing the tips he asked me if I liked the shape before he started with the acrylics, I saw that some nails on my left side were longer so I asked him if it were possible for him to trim them shorter. He started yelling at me saying they weren't done yet even though he asked me for my opinion. He then demanded me to show a picture of what I wanted and when I pulled up a picture his tone got even more aggressive saying how it was a coffin shaped nail when I was just trying to show him the color. I asked him why he was yelling which made his time even more aggressive and the other lady worker had to come over to calm him down. After that he didn't yell anymore but kept muttering Vietnamese aggressively under his breath. his overall attitude was just really rude and made this whole experience really horrible. read more

I initially called them to see how much removing acrylic nails would be. Man on the phone was super blunt and rude. But, it was only $10 to get them removed so I went anyways. I honestly shouldnt have even bothered coming in, as the man proceeded to just simply cut down and rip off my acrylics. it was extremely painful, so naturally i was stiffening up a bit.
