Overall very uncomfortable experience and I will never go back. I told my bridal shop to stop recommending her as a seamstress. I made this appointment almost a month ago and told her that my wedding is early June. She did not mention that this would not be enough time to alter my dress when I initially booked the appointment over the phone. She didn't ask any follow-up questions and just booked me. Fast forward to today, I go in and arrive 15 minutes early to be courteous and punctual. I awkwardly stand there for 5 minutes without any acknowledgment, and then a women (I'm assuming is her) comes over and takes my dress. When she is going to hang it up, I asked her if it was okay that I brought a second dress (my rehearsal dinner dress) but before I could even finish she harshly cuts me off and told me "you need sit down, I have another client". I was very taken aback but how rude she was and it honestly caught me off guard. It was so bad I almost debated just taking my dress back and leaving but because I had waited a month for this appointment and my wedding was in a month, I figured I might as well see it through. Huge mistake. I change into my dress and describe to her the alternations I was looking for, which is to shorten it a little and also remove the breast cups. I did not think it was a significant amount of alternations but she seemed to think so. She then proceeded to tell me that she "may" be able to do it, but then looked at her calendar and said that she couldn't guarantee it. I honestly was so confused because she knew my wedding date when she booked this consultation appointment. If it wasn't something that could be done I feel she should've just told me up front rather than let me wait until the appointment. At that point I didn't even put up a fight as in the back of my mind, I knew I wouldn't have been comfortable with her altering my dresses anyways. She gave off the impression that if anything needed tweaking or wasn't to your satisfaction you would be SOL. All in all, a huge waste of my time. It would've been less of a bad experience if she wasn't so rude upfront. I'm starting to think her 5-star google reviews are faked, as at least on Yelp there are a few honest reviews that mention her bad attitude to her clients so it seems to be a common theme. First off, I want to say I have no doubt that Natali would have done a phenomenal job on altering my wedding dress. But my experience with her is the reason for this negative review. I had a complimentary consultation with her mid May. It consisted of one hour of her going through the process of making her marks of where she will hem, take-in the bust, and create a bustle. All in all, the quote for it was $500. I agreed to that, fully entrusting in her process, and made my next appointment with her for my first fitting the following month. Fast forward two weeks after the consultation and I'm having major dress regret. I ended up buying a second gown to wear for the reception. So I called Natali yesterday to tell her I've decided to cancel the bustle (since she had not created it yet), but I still want the rest of the alterations. She sounded upset, and told me to come in the next day. I agreed, assuming that we would go over details again in person. Less work for her to do on the dress essentially, right? What I didn't expect was that I would leave with my dress today. She told me that she no longer felt comfortable doing the other alterations. She said she spent a lot of time during our one hour, plotting pins for the bustle and making all of the marks on the dress, and since I decided to not go through with the bustle, I will need to find another seamstress. She even showed me her knees (from all the floor dress work she does). I was shocked and speechless. As I was trying to rationalize and comprehend in my head what was happening, she told her daughter to start removing all the pins. She then insensitively informed me that I will be charged $50 for the time she spent during our complimentary consultation. As an empath, I 100% understand the frustration of doing all the extra work just to have someone change their mind. But honestly, I didn't think that she would dismiss the work all together. I was caught off guard and I felt like I was being punished. I'm not proud of it, but I started crying. Surprisingly, I think she felt bad and didn't end up charging me, but had me write down on the back of my ticket that I picked up my dress without alterations. She gave me back my dress and told me I still have time to get it altered elsewhere, and then wished me a good wedding. As long as you're agreeable, not an indecisive person, AND you go through what is agreed upon during your consultation, then I'm sure your experience will be just fine. Because god forbid you change your mind on something, you will upset her and leave the shop with your unaltered garments. I waited 2 weeks for an appointment and drove an hour for nothing. When I called to make the appointment I specifically mentioned that it was for jeans. I was told no problem, to bring the jeans and shoes. When I got to the appointment and put the jeans on, I showed her where I needed the alteration and she immediately said "no." She said they only have a soft sewing machine so she couldn't do what I needed done. My frustration comes from the fact that she didn't ask clarifying questions on the phone call when I made the appointment, nor did she give me a chance to explain what I needed. I highly recommend hiring Natali! She is exceptionally skilled and creative. I purchased my dress from a used wedding dress shop. I was happy with it and brought it to Natali for relatively minor alterations, but she told me she had a vision for the skirt and I am so happy I went with it. She essentially reconstructed much of the skirt including changing the placement of the layers and redoing the bustle. It went from looking somewhat heavy to appearing light, flowy, and airy. She of course altered the top to fit perfectly as well. Throughout the process I felt like she was very invested in helping me look as beautiful as possible and she truly cared about me. I went to Juliya a bit over a year ago for alterations when I was Maid of Honor in my best friend's wedding. The dress was not something I thought would look flattering on me, but after Juliya worked on it the dress looked like it was made for me. So naturally I went back to her for my own bridal gown a year later. My dress needed a lot of work. It needed to be hemmed, have the straps shortened, and be taken in, plus I had her move a panel of fabric around to cover a feature of my dress I didn't like. She also recommended a bustier for me which she sewed into the dress. Plus she made a veil for me out of the extra fabric and sewed a rosette from my mother's dress into mine. Like I said, a lot of work. It did end up costing more than the initial quote but you know, that's why it's a quote. All I can say is that the dress was PERFECT. I purchased my wedding dress at Betsy Robinson's, but the reviews for alterations were so mixed that I decided to take my dress elsewhere. After searching specifically for bridal gown reviews, I decided on Juliya, and I am SOOOO happy that I did! My dress had a lot of beading in the top half, and most of it was sewn into that very delicate, stocking-like material that gives the illusion there is nothing there. Juliya actually had to take in areas with that material and I could not even tell! She understands women's bodies and it's obvious in her work. She made my dress look like it was custom made for me! She is warm and friendly, and my mom and I enjoyed my appointments with her! My mom even ended up getting a dress altered for a garden party, and she got lots of compliments on it! I am so sad to be writing a negative review for a place I used to love and recommend to everyone. Sadly, my recent experience was not good. My sister and I recently scheduled an appointment to have our bridesmaid dresses altered. The seamstress was very efficient, pinned our dresses and made us feel confident that they would turn out perfect. She then took me to the counter to calculate the cost of my dress. The dress needed taking in at the shoulders, the waist, and the belt, a small piece of frill removed from one sleeve, and a hem. The price totaled to $310. I studied the receipt, and felt unsure about spending more than three times the cost of the dress (bought it for $99) on alterations. I noticed the hem was going to cost $100. I decided to ask if she would cancel the hem, and I would have my mom do it instead, because my budget was around $200 for alterations. She became furious, and emphasized how rude I was to make her pin up the dress only to change my mind. I explained that I would still love her to do the rest of the alterations, just not the hem, and thanked her for her time. She became angrier and said "You need to find a new dress maker!" She angrily removed every pin and threw them down on the counter. It was a very uncomfortable experience. I left with my dress, only weeks away from the wedding wondering what I should do. Thankfully my mom ended up altering the whole dress, and it looks great! I have no doubt that she would have done an excellent job on my dress, but the way I was treated was very unkind, and I will not be returning or recommending it to my friends anymore. read more

I took in my BHLDN wedding dress to Juliya because of the stellar reviews. After having a terrible experience, I feel ripped off and deceived by the reviews claiming that her work is affordable. I suspect some of these reviews are fake. Maybe the people who wrote genuine reviews have different standards of what's considered affordable because she quoted me $450 then charged me $770. The good: Juliya is friendly, and she did make my dress fit better. For this reason, I've rated her two stars. The dress required standard alterations: the bottom hemmed, the sides taken in, the arms shortened, and a very simple bustle added to the short sweep train. She quoted me $450, which practically gave me a heart attack. After doing some research, though, I realized that this was within the general cost range for wedding dress alterations and decided to go with her rather than look at other seamstresses. Ultimately, the dress didn't end up fitting radically different than when I had it taken in, but it did look nice on me. The bad: First and foremost, the fact that I was charged $330 more than I was quoted without any sort of forewarning. (The $770 alterations were substantially more than the dress itself, which was only $600.) Of all the tailors I've been to, I've never once encountered such an enormous discrepancy between the initial quote and the ultimate cost. She only informed me of the final cost when I went to pick up the dress up. Moreover, she only accepts cash or check, and not anticipating such a higher charge than I was quoted, I didn't bring enough money with me and had to drive to and from my bank in heavy traffic. Second, she ruined the bra I had spent ages searching for. My dress had a v-neck back that was low but not overly so, falling a bit above my elbows. Because I'm busty, she told me that I would need to wear a bra rather than have cups sewn into the dress. (In her words, girls who wear a C or D need to wear a bra. She's clearly has no idea about how bra sizes work because I'm a 30G and haven't worn a D cup since I was 12.) I didn't have anything that would work with the dress, so I asked for her recommendation with the assumption that she was an expert in this sort of thing. Her initial recommendation, a low-back Spanx bodysuit, was laughably bad. I was spilling out of the cups in the largest size, and the rest of the bodysuit was loose, defeating the purpose of shape wear. After going to several speciality bra fitters in New York and London and ordering 10 different options online, I finally found the Dominique Ariel Longline Bra. The smallest band size and largest cup size they carry is a 32DD, so I had to size up two band sizes (34DD) for the cups to fit. It runs a bit small in the band and large in the cups, so it fit pretty well (albeit not quite perfectly). It still peeked out ever so slightly over the edge of the dress's back when I was standing at certain angles, and Juliya said I could leave the first hook or two open. Without telling me, she completely removed several hook and eye closures and sewed back the band, leaving the back panel about half its original height. I was also charged for this unrequested alteration without my knowledge. The bra no longer provided adequate support or a correct fit, leading to pain and an unflattering silhouette on my wedding day. Because it fell too high on my torso, I ended up with a kind of reverse muffin-top (for reference, I'm petite, about 5'2" and 113 pounds). This is noticeable in the photos of me taken from the side - not the look I wanted on my wedding day, but I had to make do. I also paid $80 for a bra I can no longer wear. And her ignorance about bra sizing makes me question her knowledge as a seamstress specializing in women's dresses. Here's the kicker: because this alteration made the band way too loose on my small ribcage, the bra ended up riding up such that it was even more visible than when it was unaltered. Juliya was the worst vendor I hired for my wedding, and I regret putting my trust in her. read more

This past weekend my (now) husband and I got married!!! It was quite an undertaking because we had only began the official planning barely 2 weeks prior! So it wasn't actually until 6 days prior to the wedding that I actually found my dress - eek! Finally finding the perfect dress was just a miracle HOWEVER the size 10 was not entirely realistic. But to my surprise (with the assistance of my nieces and sister-in-law) I was able to zip the dress and it was just BEAUTIFUL - a floor length maxi chiffon dress - perfection! At 11:00 on Monday Juliya's daughter, Kristina, emailed me (even though they were closed!)!!! She had passed the info to Juliya who texted me as I was reading the email from Kristina!!! The Gods were smiling! Juliya had me come in on Tuesday morning. I put on the dress and Juliya looked at how it fit and what needed to be repaired - she never took a single measurement! At the same time I handed her my toddler son's dress pants that needed to be altered. Juliya was/is honest, sincere, genuine, polite, professional, fair, and wonderful! She promised the dress & pants by Friday afternoon but called me Thursday afternoon to tell me it was all ready. I picked them up and tried the dress on and IT WAS PERFECT!!! The 2 stars are for the work Natalia did on my wedding dress. It fit perfectly. However, if I could re-do any decision leading up to my wedding day, I'd choose to go somewhere else for alterations. My sister came here for her wedding dress alterations and had a wonderful experience. I didn't think twice about coming here for my alterations. I brought some of my sisters and my mother to see my second fitting. My sisters weren't there when I chose the dress, so it was meant to be a special moment for them. Natalia told me very harshly "next time do not bring all these people". It made what should have been a special moment awkward and embarrassing for my younger sisters. Natalia then yelled at my mom for taking a photo of me because she thought she was in it. She demanded for my mother to delete it. No matter the situation, no one should be talked down to the way she spoke to my mother. Lastly, Natalia gave me a price estimate at my first fitting that we thought was very reasonable. When the day came to pick up my dress and pay for the alterations, I was discouraged when Natalia said: "I made a mistake, sorry" and proceeded to charge me over 100 dollars more than what she originally wrote down on the estimate. I'm very impressed with the quick and friendly service I received from Juliya's and I'm surprised to be the first review! Juliya's is located in the Stevenson shopping center off of Greenspring Valley Road. Her shop is located in a small building in the parking lot. When you walk in you are surrounded by racks and racks of clothes. Within the studio are a few large sewing tables and a changing room. Note the big sign on the wall that says CASH AND CHECKS ONLY PLEASE. Juliya greeted me and I showed her the bridesmaid dress I was bringing in to be hemmed. She gestured to the dressing room and told me to let her know when I was ready. Like most bridesmaid dresses, the fit is not ideal. Juliya worked quickly to pin the hem around the bottom of the gown. When she was done we discussed the fit of the rest of the dress and she was very honest with me about what wouldn't be worth tweaking. I appreciated the honesty because I know plenty of other places that would have gladly stretched my bill as far as they could. I made an appt a few weeks ago to have some pants hemmed. When I arrived, at 10, she was opening, and took someone before me. I said I had an appt at 10 and she replied that she double booked. Fine. I waited 20 minutes and she was very quick in marking my pants, and said they'd be ready in 2 weeks. Yesterday, I went in to pick up my 2 pairs of pants, and had 2 more with me that needed tailoring. Juliya gave me the finished order, then went back in dressing room. I waited, as I didn't know the charge. Finally she came out and I said I have 2 more pairs of pants that need hemming and she said no. No time for me. What? She didn't honor the appt I had before, so I did a walk in like everyone else.
