We had to order one of their sig crab dishes, and we rounded out the meal w/ beef and long beans, sweet & sour pork belly, eggplant and fried rice. The crab was amazing! The curry sauce was so deep & complex. In addition, the crab was fresh bc they have tanks in the restaurant. Of course I called dibs on the head, and it was packed with goodies. I added rice to the head (in Ilocano this is called "labay", adding rice to soup or broth to extend the meal). I was in heaven. The other dishes were all big portions and very good. The meat was tender, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. I believe all the other dishes were ~ $20/each. The staff was super nice. We didn't have a res, but luckily we were seated in 20 min on a busy Sun night. Regarding the dining area, its tight but comfy. You have to wash your hands after, and the bathrooms are clean. I will def return the next time I come home. I want to try another crab dish (about 8 versions), and build a meal around the crab.

Pork chop was salty and crispy. Honey walnut shrimp was big, juicy and the candied walnuts was plentiful. Malaysian fried rice tasty, and the Singapore rice noodle flavorful. The meal was scrumptious and delicious like a well prepared home cooked meal! Will definitely be back to try new items on the menu.

After visiting Singapore many years ago, we enjoyed the flavorfulness and spiciness of the street…read morefood at the hawker stands, which was a mixture of Indonesian, Malay and Singaporean cultures. Occasional eateries have opened in HI offering this cusine, however, many were short-lived. In 2014, Emily Terukina immigrated to HNL from Singapore with her husband, Gavin. She worked as a host and kitchen helper at the Pig & the Lady. After missing her native home cuisine, she left the Pig & the Lady to open her own restaurant pop-up at the Hapa Market and Grill in Palolo called Shioketh on 9/7/24. Emily uses her traditional recipes to display the authentic flavors while growing up in Singapore, with slight adaptations to the likes of the local residents of HI. Huband Gavin oversees the back end of the restaurant's operations, including graphics and web design. Emily chose the name "Shioketh," which is a Singaporean/Malaysian slang term meaning: * "Shiok" = delicious, pleasurable, superb or highly satisfying and frequently used to describe a great meal. * "Shooketh" = a slang for shaken/surprised. She hopes to provide fun, casual food options of Singaporean flavors that leave her guests both satisfied and craving for more. Generallly open on Saturdays only, Shioketh offers a rotating, limited weekly menu that includes: * Entrees: laksa curry, beef rendang (Indonesian curry), ayam penyet (crispy Malay chicken), nasi lemak (coconut rice with chicken and egg), crispy wonton with noodles. * Sides: sambal goreng (stir-fried tofu, long beans, tempeh, shallots); blooming eggs. * Desserts: pandan waffle, Kaya sweet bun. * Drinks: Pandan iced coffee, bandung/yuzu fuzzy, mango cream soda, lychee/watermelon cucumber spritzer, iced teas. I had the following: * Salted egg popcorn chicken plate. Super crispy popcorn chicken tossed in a creamy, spicy salted egg sauce and finished with fried curry leaves, served with jasmine rice. Delicious, flavorful, seasoned sauce that was fiery spicy that complemented the chicken and Jasmine rice topped with garlic chips! Excellent spicy sauce that had me wanting to eat more and more! * Ginger fried chicken with fragrant chicken rice. Crisp, juicy ginger-marinated chicken fried with garlic, curry leaves, and blended macadamia for subtleness. Paired w/ fragrant chicken rice infused with ginger aromatics and war spices. I expected the chicken or the sauce to be spicy, but both were not; however, I enjoyed the spices that they were cooked in! Yum, very delicious! The juicy chicken is best eaten when freshly fried and dipped into the sauce for the best flavors! * Pandan coffee. This was a cold brew coffee topped with pandan coconut cold foam and sweetened with gula melaka palm sugar. I enjoyed the rich and creamy coffee with the subtle taste of the pandan foam! Very refreshing! As the weekly menus change, I plan to check Shioketh's Instagram site to see what food items will be offered on future dates. And if I see a menu item that interests me, I will preorder before the Saturday to guarantee having it. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. Since I had preordered the food items and coffee, they were ready at the time of pick-up. There are a few tables for dine-in, and when we arrived at the peak of the lunch hour, all seats were taken. However, I had previously ordered online for takeout to ensure that the food items would not be sold out. Note that even if you dine in or take out, all food items are served in take-out containers and are made to order to ensure freshness and quality. Shioketh is generally open on Saturdays only from 11a to 3p, unless it is participating in private events; check their Instagram posts a few days prior for their schedule. Free parking in private lot shared with Hapa Market and Grill. I look forward to trying more of the different dishes offered! Love the delicious Malaysian cuisine with the accompanying spiciness, the authenticity of the menu, and the friendly staff that make this an amazing dining experience! I am glad that Shioketh has garnered a loyal following over the past year and wish them continued success. Support local!

During our visit, we ordered: 1) Pandan ice coffees - looks like a good amount of pandan crema added to the drink but the pandan flavor was subtle. Would've liked it to be stronger. 2) Pandan waffle w/ gula melaka - arrived hot. Good waffle but, like the iced coffee, would've liked the pandan flavor to be stronger. 3) Beef Rendang combo - the flavors were good but the portion was small. For the price ($28, I think), I expected more.

So I was excited to try this restaurant but also a little disappointed to find out this is more like an Asian fusion restaurant. Tried a few dishes and they're alright but I would not recommend it if you are looking for authentic Singaporean/Malaysian food. Nasi Lemak: the rice didn't have much coconut flavor. The curry chicken and anchovies were replaced by Portuguese sausages and bacons. It was written on the menu though I just didn't pay attention lol Roti prata: not bad but the portion was quite small for the price Laksa: the broth was spicy and not much flavor profile. Noodles were overcooked and a little mushy. Food was definitely pricey but it was expected. It was at Ward and the decor was really nice. The restaurant is just beautiful. Service was also excellent. I still think it is a fun place for gathering given the great ambiance and the excellent service.

I heard they will keep this space for special events. The restaurant is quite busy and I'm glad we had reservations. Good thing I was there prior to lunch hour opening, otherwise we may lose our reservations since the person who made reservations tends to be habitual in arriving late. We dined in May, but it's been awhile since I first dined here. I preferred dining in Chinatown during lunch time than at dinner. Our waiter was really nice and helpful. I forgot his name, but I remembered that his eyeglasses that he wore was cool/funny, since the frames for each eye didn't match the other eye! lol. Funny it wasn't me who first noticed it. One was square frame and the other was a round frame! The restaurant doesn't do anything special for birthdays except may write Happy Birthday in chocolate on the dessert plate that you purchase for the birthday person. Their desserts are unique and refreshing. I think there are some rotating desserts /flavors like their seasonal menu for their main menu. I guess you can always keep coming back without being bored of the menu! I was bummed to see a previous dish posted of a pasta that I wanted to try that wasn't on the current spring seasonal menu! When we dined for brunch over the weekend, I was able to get the Hainan chicken with the crispy roast pork combo. It was very filling , tasty and satisfying. I do love ginger sauce on the cold ginger chicken but sometimes the chicken is just okay. This Hainan chicken was really good and the chicken was really moist! I thought it was the best I've tried! It was good that I wanted to takeout one last time in August before they moved! No more the 50/50 combo with the crispy roast pork on the lunch menu during the weekday. It was on the spring menu. Of course it's best to eat it in the restaurant than for take out. Bathroom is a must for me when dining out and they had only one shared bathroom for everyone! There was a guy who tried to make several attempts but wasn't successful, since there was always someone in the restroom. I'm glad the waiter told me there was a bigger separate bathroom with several stalls for men and ladies upstairs. You go straight through the kitchen to catch the elevator and to another kitchen /storage area! Thank Goodness! Best wishes at your new location. You offer yummy and tasty food!

The tables and benches are very basic and not cushioned, which makes for quick customer turnover. We hardly waited 2 minutes before they called us; even though there was a queue the entire time we were there it seems they go really quickly. Focus is on noodles (recommended) or rice dishes. We had beef chow fun (thick noodles) and a rice-noodle soup with pork and picked cabbage. Both dishes were very good. The chow fun was smoky, as if cooked on high heat, and the rice noodles were nicely spiced. The rice noodles came in a delicious broth. Parking is tough in Chinatown but there are several pay lots around. Be careful because the private pay lots can get expensive. There's also two municipal pay lots, each about 2 blocks away.
