I've heard people describe food as being "so good you'll slap yo mama" which apparently means the food is good. Well I had the BLT with a basket of fries, and it's so good, you'll lock mama in the basement and set the house on fire. The BLT was humongous with generously buttered toast, giant pieces of Daily's bacon, and lettuce and tomatoes that were FRESH (this is in a state where you have to check the expiration dates on canned goods). The basket of fries was brilliant, weighed more than mamas ashes and urn combined, and they had soda machine with lemonade and Sprite, so I could make a 50/50 drink like a damn boss. tonight was the first time eating at nap's and it did not disappoint. after ordering "the nap's deal" (one for my wife and one for me), we gave our name and sat down at the counter, facing main street. it wasn't until after we were leaving that the counter windows we opened up. we both ordered the 3/4 burgers medium rare with pepper jack cheese and bacon. after hearing my name called, i retrieved our order and saw the big burger and a generous helping of fries. the fixings were to the left of the kitchen. delicious! read more

I wish I could give 4.5 stars. The service in the bar area is 5 stars - I have never seen a team of people so on top of everything. The manager should give the women working the bar a huge kudos, they were amazing. We had the burger special and a french dip. Both were excellent and came out very quickly (which was nice given we were eating dinner at 9pm after fishing all day!). The only thing that could've been better was the dinner salad. Lettuce was a bit limp but honestly we didn't care that much given how excellent everything else was. Kudos to this place for maintaining excellent customer service when many others are struggling to do so. read more

I've been told by countless number of people to come here and I finally made the short trip from Missoula over to Hamilton to give this place a shot. It's a very homey restaurant with a small menu that means nothing but business. They have salads, sandwiches, an assortment of sides but the main reason people come here are for the burgers. I got a 12oz burger ($6.25) with bacon ($1.50) & pepperjack cheese ($.75) and a strawberry milkshake ($4). Even though you pay for each extra you put on, it is still pretty affordable. Also, I need to reiterate that this is a 120z (3/4lb) burger!! I held it next to my face and it was just as big!! As soon as you're order is served, there is a small self service station for condiments and standard dressings (lettuce, tomato, sauces) to complete your burger. I finally bit into it and was instantly transported to heaven and back with each bite. This burger was so big I had to cut it into quarters to make it more manageable. Despite that, I couldn't finish the last 3 or 4 bites. They make it a big deal that the burger is patted down fresh every single day and it was very evident with how tender and juicy it was. Naps has catapulted itself as the one of the best burgers I've ever eaten in my life. I seriously had to take a 4 hour nap afterward. Know I know why they call it "Naps". It's that good! read more

The best burgers in the Bitterroot... I have great memories of this place with friends and family over fifteen years (makes me feel old). The mandarin salad is a treat unto itself, and easily a meal if you throw some chicken into it. A "plain" 6 ounce cheeseburger medium well usually fits the bill. (I did order a well done burger here once... They were very busy; my burger was very well done; I won't order a well done burger when at home again; nuff said.) When we have ordered the larger burger, it was always to share. My sweet husband always ends up ordering onion rings, fries and (now) sweet potato fries for everyone to share. Once our order is called and returns to the table, speaking ceases and feeding begins. =^) We love that they have gift cards so that we can stuff Mom's and Dad's stockings with a few lunches to start out the new year. Thank you, Naps, for being a great consistent place to come home to when we are lucky enough to make it to the Bitterroot. read more

Best food in the Bitterroot and possibly the best burgers anywhere. I got the 12 oz. more-than-you-can-possibly-eat burger with smoky thick bacon and blue cheese. They have all the fixings on the side counter (sauces, pickles, pepperocinis, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, blah, blah ...) The regular fries are huge and come crispy hot. My husband had the steak which was done perfectly with a pile of flavorful mushrooms. When I go to Montana, it is all about the huckleberries so when I saw that they offered a huckleberry shake, I was all for it - even if it was 20 degrees outside. My only very small complaint was that they only offered one type of salad that had canned mandarin oranges on it. Of course, people don't come here for the salad. read more

I am visiting family in the Root, yes from MT. and we went here to see the new place, well, there were several things that occurred so good thing Naps is only in MT. The very cool lights above the dining tables have about a 1/4" of grime on them, that was the first look. The wood walls looked like they could use a good, regular cleaning as well. The duce next to us was occupied by an older couple and I heard the lady say "Is there supposed to be chicken in my salad with steak?" The salad was wilted, not the fresh large salads I remember at the old location. And I did see, there were literally 6 pieces of steak on it the size of my thumbnail. I heard the lady say, this is supposed to be 4 or 6 ounces I think. So she takes her salad back up and stands there quite a while and they take it. Approximately 12 minutes later a young girl brings her, her salad and an older gentleman asked how was everything. The couple obviously are locals and reply fine. The salad was not re-made, less salad then what she took up to the counter and the sliver of steak pieces was diced up into tiny bits. They were much too kind not to complain but as a part-owner in 3 restaurants in the Pheonix area, this was certainly not how you handle business and how you treat your locals, anywhere. My burger was OK, mediocre at best. Much fewer fries then you use to get as well and not crispy like they use to be, could have been in the fryer a bit longer. My husband's extremely overpriced steak was tough. Kitchen staff needs some help, ongoing training would be beneficial. On a good note, the young lady taking orders seemed very proficient, friendly and patient, all excellent employee attributes. And the condiment bar was stocked and that young lady was personable and hopefully changed her gloves after touching the corner of the wall before placing more lettuce on the bar. read more

You order at the counter and once your meal is ready they call out your name and you go gather your grub. Went for the cheesesteak due to a serious craving for red meat. Excellent serving of tender steak strips (not the cut of beef one expects on a cheesesteak, but it was good in its own way) with a pile of fresh griddled red onions and lots of stringy cheese. They also come with shrooms but I'm not hip on the fungus. It was an honestly enjoyable sammich but really needed a little kick. An application of salt and pepper helped. Large basket of sweet tater fries was indeed large (shared it and still couldn't finish them - even after tucking some away for the pup waiting patiently... soooo patirently... in the car). Cooked to order, they were perfectly crispy. Chocolate malt needed some help... as in more malt. It was a good chocolate shake though ;-) Service was wonderful and the other food we saw passing by looked worth a trip back for more taste-testing. read more

We came on Memorial Day and got charbroiled chicken sandwich and French dip. Both were really good! The fries were my favorite part - hand cut and perfectly fried! We realized we hadn't tried Montana's Best Burger so we came back to try one. We learned that sharing a burger would be a good idea, so we got a 6 oz with fries and they split it for us in the kitchen. It was definitely the best burger we've ever had in Montana and in the top 2-3 ever! The fries were not as crispy so not as perfect as our first visit but still crispy and yummy! I've heard about Nap's for years, and finally talked the rest of the family into giving it a try. We're so glad we did! The service was quick, the place was clean even though they were moderately busy, and the servings were HUGE!!! My son loved his chicken strips, and he's quite the connoisseur, trust me. My husband had the chicken Philly and I had the Cheesesteak and our pup was well fed from our leftovers when we got back to the car. My husband says the fries are the closest to In & Out he's ever had and he's moaned for years about the lack of In & Out in his life. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is that it's a little overpriced for a burger joint. There are no servers, you order at the counter, bus your own table, and fill your own drinks, and it's still $11 for a sandwich, before you add fries or a drink. read more
