Place looks a bit rough from the outside, but has the best cinnamon rolls in town! Super good and baked fresh daily! The inside has a pretty nice lobby with tables and a couch. Would love to see them add some more lighting as it seems like a cave inside. Some more light would make it more like a working space and bring in that "cafe" feel. I'll for sure be back here to try the coffee and have another cinnamon roll! They also sell the pastries at Big Creek down the road, but the coffee is really bad at Big Creek - will be going to Mineshaft from now on. read more

Everything I've had from here has been amazing. I'm not sure why Hamilton has the best iced Mochas, but the one from Mineshaft is my new favorite. The friendly barista suggested I add a shot of peppermint which was a brilliant idea. All of the scones are insanely good. The Huckleberry Lemon is my favorite, followed by the Orange Cranberry, but you can't go wrong with any of the flavors. On a whim I grabbed a Whoopie Pie too. I always *think* I'll like Whoopie Pies and then I'm always disappointed and end up tossing them after one or two bites. BUT I finally found one that's perfect! read more

The breakfast Pasty is perfection! The dough is not too thick and it is just a little crispy. The potato, egg and sausage were amazing, but the real winner is their gravy. It is a warm creamy peppery gravy that compliments the pasty well. Mineshaft Pasty is a comfortable place to get a great cup of coffee and a bite. We sat on the couch and just relaxed with our Mocha coffees and breakfast. The staff is super friendly and we were told if you call in they will put aside the huckleberry lemon scones until you get there. Those sell out everyday. read more

We visit Montana 3-5x year, always been big creek coffee goers, after discovering black coffee in missoula a few weeks ago I was loving how convenient I can order a cold brew 15 minutes rather than driving an hour away. Met the owner today, love what she offers the community, she is finalizing set up for hiking rentals...really cool and overall inviting atmosphere. Took our almost 2 year old son in, purchased one cookie and she gave us 2. Will gladly be vacation before heading home next week. read more

Full disclosure, I've never had a pasty in my life until I came here.... and I'm probably never having another one as good. I've been spoiled. My favorite is the traditional Cornish hen with gravy. It's as much filling as is it flavorful. The service in the restaurant is warm and cozy, they treat you like family. The location in downtown is also very convenience as it has a lot of parking. This is my favorite place to eat when I'm in the area. Pasties are hard to come by, even in a state steeped in Irish heritage. Really good pasties... impossible. Mineshaft blows you away with the creativity and variety in flavors and consistent deliciousness. Their wide selection of other pastries and breakfast items will make your mouth water. My kids love the mini chocolate lava cakes. Well worth the clean up! I've been impressed by the way this business adjusted what they do during COVID-19. They're a small family owned business like all the rest. They've worked hard to keep Montana well fed in a safe way during this strange time. Serves pasties, which are somewhere between calzones and handheld Aussie pies. There's not just the traditional Cornish pasty of beef-onion-potato, but weird ideas of their own creation which vary day to day. On the menu that day besides the Cornish were a breakfast pasty (with scrambled eggs, potato, and I don't remember what else) and what I got, pork with cheese, hominy, onions, chiles, and salsa. This was not only much tastier than it sounds, it was big enough to save up half for reheating later, at which it was just as good. read more

A hidden gem in the Bitterroot! I've only had their scones (huckleberry/lemon, huckleberry/white chocolate and blackberry/lavender/white chocolate) and fancy coffee (Mineshaft - chai, espresso & vanilla) but all are the most delicious I have ever had (and I am a huge fan of small batch bakeries!). The woman who helps me is very warm and friendly, and shared that she and her mom make the pastries. I wish I knew their baking secrets! The vibe inside feels like a cozy neighborhood gathering place and each time I've been there are small gatherings of locals who have settled in for a proper catch up. Delicious!!! I've only had pasties (pastys?) in Michigan and there they are very traditional and utilitarian... ground beef, potatoes, rutabagas. Mineshaft makes not only a beautiful pasty, but they have a delightful way of creating inventive flavors. Breakfast pasty with eggs, yummy additions like mushrooms, cheese, pulled pork, beef tenderloin, even a vegetarian option! My only complaint but s that they were out the of the one I really wanted to try (The Hipster). They also serve a full range of espresso drinks and coffees to go with their house baked cookies, cupcakes and scones. The vibe is very relaxed and the walls are covered with art by local artists. This may be a very short review as I must drive back down to Mineshaft Pasty, immediately, so that I can purchase every remaining pasty in the shop. I picked up several of their pasties; the beef, potato onion and the breakfast pasty. Both were outstanding! Just the gravy for both was phenomenal. The crust was flaky and light. The fillings were mouth wateringly delicious. I grabbed several cinnamon rolls on recommendation along with an assortment of cookies and some scones. I've yet to try the aforementioned goodies as I'm still swooning from the pasties. Don't delay. Drop whatever you're doing and drive down to Hamilton right now so that you too can partake in the glory that is Mineshaft pasty. Grabbed some pasties to go for dinner tonight. First time here and oh so good :-) The two young ladies behind the counter warmly greeted us and took the time (even though they were about ready to close for the night) to explain the pasties that were available and sweetly helped us with our order. Impressed with service off the bat... Then, the best part ... When we got home and began eating wow! Sooo delicious. For those of you new to pasties, they are a folded pastry case with a savoury filling, typically of seasoned meat, potatoes and veggies. Seriously, the pastry is amazing! It's flaky, flavorful and holds together well. The pocket contents are delicious. We had some Cornish pasties with brown gravy and a Green Pig pasty with a Chili Verde sauce - both excellent! Visiting the area briefly one morning I stumbled upon Mineshaft Pasty a hidden gem in the area. I planned to have a quick scone and a cup of coffee. One hour later I had finished the huckleberry lemon scone and was dying for more. I was watching others eating something that looks like a light version of a calzone. I couldn't resist and I'm so happy I didn't. The breakfast Pasty was fabulous, light with a lot of flavor and the crust was incredible. This is a must visit local shop. The mission is to creat a community meeting area and to create a place for to owners teens to learn work ethic. My hat is off to this couple following a dream and helping others at the same time.
