Hello world!! I went to Nappstar for a maintenance and when I showed up for my appt I was placed at à shampoo bowl and left for 1 hour. I was excited to come for my service after driving 9hrs. After 1 hour waiting à young lady walked over and said it is going to be another 35-45 minutes and stated if you want to wait you can but if not you can get you deposit back. Never once did they take into considération I drove 9hrs just for the appt. Both owner were présent and not one time did either one come over and apologize to me. My appointment was schedule with one stylist and end up getting someone else. I was just so unhappyq on how the entire salon handle the whole situation. Very unprofessional being that both owner were présent. Still to this day no téléphone calls or text for apologies. Nappstar made sure they texted to make sure clients are on time but they didn't make sure their staff made accommodation for a client schedule appointment. It also would have made more sensé if one of the owners would come over and addressed the situation at best but nothing happen. I agree with the other reviews about them being con artists. I am extremely disappointed. My whole experience with Nappstar was SO unprofessional. I made and confirmed my appointment 3 days ahead of time. The night before my appointment I was told the stylist I had requested could not make it. I had no time to find another salon or even pick another day because I was traveling that night. Fine. I agreed to see another stylist. I requested 2 French braids and was quoted a different price than what I normally pay. In all honesty, every time I go I'm quoted a different, more expensive price than what I normally pay. But once you say no they quickly say "ok". I feel like they're always trying to pull one over on me. The stylist I saw was extremely nice and accommodating, but I think this was the first time she was doing this style (again, for the greed of money, I was put with a stylist who clearly didn't know what she was doing). My braids were uneven, messy, and my part was lean. I did not have time to have her redo them. I reached out to the owner who was extremely rude and caught an attitude with me very quickly. I don't judge customer service by how someone responds when things are good, I judge it by how they handle undesirable situations. I could not believe the things that were said to me. I had to tell her that this wasn't the way to speak to a customer. And I had to remind her that I was PAYING for a service NOT begging a favor. After all of this the owner simply said "sorry you didn't like your style, if you don't want to come back, that's up to you". They're obviously money hungry and greedy, and honestly that won't get them very far but you can already see that from the other negative reviews. I went there for instalocks on my natural hair. Beforehand I had to send a picture of my natural hair, state my desire parting, and pictures of the look I was going for. I was told that I would have to pay $200-$300 extra on top of the $530 because I wanted small parts, and I have a lot of hair. I was fine with that. When I got to the salon, the hairdresser convinced me to do medium parts instead of what I originally wanted. She started complaining about how it would take too long, and medium parts would still look nice & how I can stick to paying $530. I don't know what was the point of me having to send pictures and tell them my desired look before the appointment if the lady wasn't going to do it the way I exactly wanted. It wasn't until I went to another loctician that she informed me that the NappStar loctician did my parting in all different sizes. She made the parts in the front and back medium than the parts in the middle huge. At the time, I didn't notice because I couldn't see the middle of my head. Thankfully my new loctician fixed my parting; she told me I wouldn't have noticed until it grew out that the parting was not consistent. Why convince me to do medium instead of the small I originally wanted, then you technically do medium in the front & back only and large in the middle? $530 is too much money for inconsistent parting on a permanent hairstyle. Soooo I had a horrible experience with this salon. Let me start by saying that I had my hair done once before last August and didn't have any issues, but this time was MUCH different. First, I made an appointment for some Senegalese twists, and I sent a picture showing what I wanted. I got the appointment and pricing. I was scheduled with Scarlett. The day of the appointment comes and I arrive at the salon around 10:05am for a 10 am appointment. Nobody is there. I text the person that I made an appointment with and they said that the stylist would arrive shortly. She came and went to open the shop, but she didn't have her keys!!!!!!! LIKE HOW DO YOU GO TO WORK WITHOUT YOUR FREAKIN KEYS!!! So we had to wait for Jasmine to come and open the salon. SHE ARRIVED TWO HOURS LATER!!!!! At this point, I'm annoyed because I could have spent my day off doing something else. I explained to them that I had an engagement to attend that evening, so Jasmine offered to help Scarlett twist. Big mistake! You can clearly tell that two people were doing my twists. I kept asking if this would blend when it was finished and I was assured that it would. Meanwhile, they are both texting, answering calls, and making personal calls while doing my hair. ON TOP OF THAT, THE AC IN THE SHOP WASN'T WORKING AND IT HAD TO BE NO LESS THAN 90 DEGREES INSIDE. I WAS PISSED!! Jasmine said she needed to run to Home Depot for a hose, and I'm thinking , "Why didn't someone show up BEFORE clients are supposed to arrive to make sure the shop is ready for business?" Also, I kept reminding them that I had somewhere to be, but clearly they didn't care. They finally finished my hair around 7, and I told them I needed to be at my event by 8. I was LIVID to say the least. My hair was supposed to be curled at the end, but I just wanted to get outta there before I cursed someone out. I did not get the style that I asked for and I'm disgusted with how unprofessional my experience was. I will NEVER patronize this shop again and will be sure to tell everyone within earshot about my experience. My experience with this salon - though limited - was an absolute disappointment. I called last week to make an appointment. I showed up 30 minutes early for my 8 a.m. service. I called the stylist about 7:50 a.m. to let her know I was outside. She wasn't even at the location on W. 20th St. in Chelsea. My phone call woke her up -- in Brooklyn! She said she could get there in 30 minutes. She called about 20 minutes later to say she could get there by 9 a.m., an hour after my scheduled appointment. She asked if wanted to wait or reschedule. Reschedule? Really? Why would I give a nickel to this unprofessional operation? She claims she called me at work to confirm. I was off yesterday and my cell number is at the end of my voicemail. PLEASE READ!! I contacted nappstar a month​ ago to get loc extensions. The girl on​ the phone was really nice. I​ have natural hair in the middle of my back that I​ had been growing for the past 8 years. I​ was quoted at $600 for 6 hours the install and 185 per pack of the 16-inch​ hair. I​ was told that my hair would be interlocked then the extensions would be added to the end. When I​ arrived at​ my appointment tay was looking through​ the closet. they were all whispering over their earpiece to each other. it made me feel really uncomfortable. I was told that they only had 2 packs of 16 inch and I​ was told that it would cost "only $5 more"I​ kept thinking if it did why don't​ they absorb the cost since we had an agreement of the length and color I​ was getting when I​ paid the $300 deposit. When I​ looked at my bill to pay, I​ looked at my bill I​ realized that they over charger me by $50 for the install service, I was told that the price on the​ website needed to be updated. I went back​ and forth and told the guy billing me that I​ was quoted $600, ​not $650. He eventually honored the $600 price. They washed my hair and gave me my break down of my receipt​​ when I​ realized that they charged an extra $15 per pack of 18-inch​ hair. I​ brought it to the owner attention. She got on her earpiece and whispered something. Then said to me that they would give me a free style. I​ told her I did not want a free style I wanted my money back, she obliged. The owner then parted my hair and coiled it. I​ was concerned about the fact that she did not coil my hair till the end and told her. she told me that the woman adding my extension would add it to the end. I only need three packs of the four packs I bought when one stylist wanted to open the fourth pack I told her I didn't need it and she started arguing with me about it. she eventually didn't and I got my money backstylists worked on my hair and it took about an hour and a half which only adds up to about 4.5 hours. Meaning I paid an extra $150 of styling time because they did not do it in 6 hours. one of the stylists actually cut my hair off when she attached my extensions and the two other stylists didn't​ instead unbeknownst to me they were wrapping my hair around the extension. When I​ got home I​ realized that my hair had these huge bumps where my hair was connected to​ the extension. The loc had a bunch of straight hair sticking out of it. THERE WAS THREAD THROUGHOUT THE LOCS Also,​ they had attached the extension at about two inches from my root causing me​ to lose the length of my real hair. My hair was stiff​ and looked like I​ had barrels in my head. The LOC WAS JET BLACK AND DID NOT MATCH MY HAIR COLOR which is a 1B. The only time it looked almost real was they I​ did a braid out or curled it. when I​ looked at my individual dread I​ noticed THE DREADS ARE MADE WITH STRAIGHT HAIR NOT MARLEY HAIR. Since have had my​ dreads I have pulled about 9 INCHES OF THREAD OUT OF MY DREADS. In an unrelated trip to the beauty supply store, the worker there asked​​ me how long I​ have had my loc extensions. The embarrassment​ I​ experienced knowing I spent almost $1200 to have people notice my hair was fake. I responded its that obvious? she said yes and began to​ point out that the locs were too big for my parts. she then told me that the locs were too stiff and did not move like real hair and the HAIR LOOKED FAKE. About a week ago, I​ noticed what I thought was the marley hair that they charged me $30 extra for was unraveling. fed up with my dreads looking uneven because my hair started locking and was way thinner than​ the bump of hair that was wrapped around it. I​ proceeded to cut the "marley hair" they wrapped around my hair just the marley hair in an attempt to make the loc look evener​. To my horror, THE LOCS STARTED FALLING OUT IT WAS NEVER CROCHETED. They simply took my hair and wrapped it around the loc. I wanted to cry. I​ contacted ShellyT locs on Rogers Ave in Brooklyn. When I got to the saloon the girl asked me where I got my hair done and before I could respond she said Napstarr. She told me I WAS THE SECOND PERSON THIS WEEK TO COME IN TO GET NAPPSTAR HAIR REPAIRED and that IN THE PAST MONTH 8 CLIENTS HAD COME IN TO GET THEIR LOCS FIXED FROM NAPPSTAR. To reattach​ the locs she had comb out the loc to create a base​ when she realized that the loc was constructed by strands of straight hair being bundled​ together at the center and shorter pieces of what looked like scraps or straight hair was woven together around it. when the stylist at shellys tried to comb out the loc at the end to make a base the locs just started coming apart. she was finally ​able to reattach the loc. she went through my head and found that the locs were barely attached to my head and they started coming out in her hand. she ended up repairing a total of 9 locs. Annette is absolutely amazing and it is a credit to her that most of her business seems to be from referral. I have been to her on three separate occasions and now keep a standing appointment for every four weeks. In Fall 2013, after seeing Chescalocs mention her stylist's name (Annette aka NappStar) in a YouTube vid, I set my appointment because I had a wedding to attend. Been coming ever since. I latch my locs every couple of months and maintain them on my own, but come to Annette when I do not have the time to style my own hair. Here's what I love about Annette: 1) Reasonable prices. 2) Beautiful hairstyles. Her fingers work like magic. 3) She works fast! I have about 100 locs. Annette washes, retwists and two-strand braids my hair in no more than 1 hour. I sit under the dryer for another hour or so. If i could give no stars, i would have. My experience with this salon will be memorable as one of the worst experiences in my lifetime, be it hairstyle or otherwise!!! PLEASE ADHERE TO THIS WARNING!! Where do i begin to rip this band aid off. About three days ago i called to make an appointment for a twist out style. Upon calling i got a person who stated her name was Jasmine. Having never been there before, I was naturally a little apprehensive as to how good they were. I explained to this said Jasmine that i needed whoever does the twist outs best. AT first she gave me Scarlett. Then, as an afterthought she stated she herself should probably do my twist out and they would be PERFECT. And so begins the red flags! I was told it would cost $95. On the day i called to confirm, i was then told it would be between $110-$120 depending on length by the same Jasmine. Moving forward, I was running late with a few things and informed her early on that I would be about 20 mins late. She then told me she already had someone ahead of me, it would be fine and gave me the option of making it a night appointment at 8:30. Mind you, i was told i would be the first of the day. At this late hour and having nowhere else to go instead, i decided to persevere. God knows i read all the warning signs and bad vibes i was given! Upon getting there at 8:15, I found the little tiny shop pleasant enough. Jasmine was the only stylist there and she had a customer in the chair whose loss she wa retesting. It took a minute, but i busied myself while waiting. Now it's my turn. She washed my hair, she blow dried my hair, then she put product in my hair. She then proceeded to give me tiny twists all over my head, then set me under the dryer. Let me state also that i have very soft hair. When i was done drying and she proceeded to take every twist out, i had to tell myself DONT PANIC. IT LOOKED HORRIBLE TO SAY THE LEAST. And it only got worse from there. The finished product was the equivalent of a birds nest. THIS I SAY AS A GOD FEARING WOMAN. I made the choice immediately to pay her and run out of there before everything got ugly. In a perfect world, this Jasmine surely should have reached in her pocket, first said sorry, then paid me. I was going to order some Loc oil from Nappstar (aka Fashion Dreads) and I noticed a fee for package insurance. So I opened a chat and asked why I have to pay for package insurance. They said that it's like car insurance which the owner pays. I told them that it is NOT like car insurance because that's paid AFTER you purchase the vehicle - NOT BEFORE. I said that I have to trust that they are packaging it up safely, which is ridiculous because if there is a problem with anything in the order, THE BUYER HAS TO PAY RETURN SHIPPING TO HAVE IT CORRECTED! Sure..their marketing is great.. but its very deceiving. There is a strong focus on models, influencers and "celebs" as the owner want's Nappstar to be the new "it" salon for all the kids at the cool table.. not so much on everyday people. I was a client for over a year and I can bare witness that there is a HUGE difference in how the staff treats their clients based on their social status. First off, this salon is EXTREMELY overpriced.. now, I usually don't mind as long as the quality and customer service is excellent.. however, that isn't the case. You can go to any of the 5 boroughs and get similar service for half the price.. what lured me in initially was their instagram page and seeing all the beautiful styles and promo videos. I always wanted dreads and they advertise that they "specialize" in extensions so it was a no brainer for me at the time. I got them installed, which cost me over $1500, I had to place a deposit of $300 and the rest was charged the day of.. which they charge based on length. After the install, I was not satisfied with the quality of the hair. Mainly, because it's very stiff.. it feels like a Brillo pad but I was told after a few weeks it will soften up and settle which it did, but then they started to fall out.. oh, you have to pay extra to have them reattached each time too.. yes, even if you paid an arm and a leg to have it permanently installed in the first place.. this happens every few months so you can imagine the extra money they must be making from that alone.. Needless to say, I'm no longer a client after paying THOUSANDS of dollars on my hair and not seeing any results or feeling appreciated as a client. If you're a regular person interested in getting "permanent" loc extensions, my advice to you is to save your money and go elsewhere! read more

I'm very unsatisfied with their customer service. I was told one price on the phone which I felt was very outrageous too begin with. My service took 6 hours from start to finish okay I have never had too sit for 6 hrs straight too my hair so it was frustrating for me. Then too top it all off the way they made me feel was like I was being extorted for money because if more than one person works on your hair the customer gets charged for two people working on them verses one person so the way is was broken down too me was that if my service is for let's say 4 hours if another stylist jumps in an helps the one that originally started your hair an that person stays 2 hours working on ur hair along wit the other person instead of the customer paying for 4 hours which is the original agreement the customer pays for 6 hrs. Because stylist 1 did 4hrs. An stylist 2 did 2hrs so they add the hours up together n charge the customer for the service. This is absurd y not jus split the cost is 4 hours between the two stylist??? Was my first reaction seeing that my hair took 6 hours too do n two people did I was charged for 6 hrs for stylist 1 n then charged 2hrs for stylist 2. So in total I was charged for 8 hrs instead of 6 which was the original arrangement that was made. Don't get me wrong my hair came out better than I was expecting it come out. I jus don't like how they over charged for a service that's was 6 hrs. An the male receptionist that they have is rude as fuk. The phrase the "customer is always right" is a false positive statement. An I'm not sayin I'm right but these people need too better explain to the customer their pricing before allowing customers like myself to make an appointment an then get bombarded with something out of left field. Stay away from this place. I decided to go here do to the all of the good reviews that I saw on line. Big mistake. I arrived with my two daughters who was also getting their hair locked along with me. Before I went to the shop I looked at the pricing for children and adults online according to what size locks that we wanted for our hair so I went in knowing what amount I would have to pay. I showed both of the stylist the size of the locs that I and my children wanted. One of the stylist did exactly what I asked for, another stylist Jackie did not. Of course being new to locs and having done some research I know some things but not as much as a stylist would about starter locs. Jackie the stylist worked on my and my eldest daughters starter locs. I specifically told her the amount and the size that I wanted our locs be in order to style and still maintain volume. I checked my daughters and my part to loc ratio and I said to Jackie a couple of times that the parts looked like they were too big for the amount of locs that I wanted, Jackie assured me several times that I would get over 100 hundred locs in both of our heads. So of course I relax and trust her word because she is the stylist and supposedly knows more about starting locs than I do. When it was time to pay they asked me for well over what the pricing on the website stated ($400.00) and then proceeded to tell me they were charging my children with adult prices, strike one. The stylist at the desk tells me that the age for children ends at 9 and I asked if that was on the website. The stylist then calls the manager and the manager refunds $30.00 of the initital $400.00 off the price because as she stated there were 3 people that came in, mind you the price was still well over what was priced on the website. A few days later I decide to count all of our locs and realize that Jackie had not done what I had asked and payed for as far as the amount of locs that I wanted. I call Nappstar and ask to speak with the owner and I speak to Melissa. I then proceed to tell her that I have a problem with how my hair was done and ask her how we can go about fixing it. She then tells me that if it was a problem why didn't you say anything before you left. I stated to her that I was tired from being at the salon all day and I was not about to count all of our locs that night. She says to me that we can come in to have the locs split but that it would be an extra. I asked her why would pay extra for something that should have been done the first time that I payed. Melissa states I can come in but she would not be doing my hair which as an owner of the salon didn't make sense for her to say. I stated that I would come in but I would not be paying for the stylist to correct something that she should have done in the beginning. I will never ever go to that salon again. Shady business practices as far as switching up the prices once a clients hair has been finished. Also just a lack of respect and quality when it comes to the customer experience. Interested in faux locs (My sisters & mom have dreads & I'm 100% natural so I wanted to experience what's it like to have dreads). Spoke to Scarlet & she answered all my questions. After I left, I received a call from Annette asking me to come in & consult with her bout hair, length & any questions I might have. Met up with Annette the day we scheduled for & it was productive consult (my mom even got her hair styled real quick in a funky style). When we were done with the consultation, we scheduled an appointment. One thing I like about Annette is her honesty & bedside manner. She told me the type of hair I need & don't. Be cheap with the hair if the style & time isn't. I got my locs done right before my baby shower. I wanted this style also for low maintenance after I gave birth. 3 months of this style, it came in handy regarding my hair. I'm going to take it out soon so it won't lock to my actual hair. The only thing I didn't like was how the ends always picked up lint like a lint roller. After this, I don't think I want dreads (too heavy)- I like my natural afro! She is incredibly professional as is her assistant. Has an engaging personality as well. Beautiful studio but I will not be returning I originally went to get my locs reinstall. Before the stylist started i told the owner as she was preparing my hair the weak spots around the perimeter of my head. I also explained that this in properly for 4 time in my life being in a hair salon because I always had terrible experience. Fast Forward my hair is done literally 2 nights after i had placed my hair in a bum and placed my bonnet on. The next day when i took my hair down the locs on the nape of my neck was on the ground (oh not only that guess what ? My hair broke off as well and did I mention my hair was shoulder length which they cut with out my acknowledgement) I called for an appointment for which I left work early for to get my hair fixed and the stylist told me if we were to fix all of the loose locs we will have to charge you. MIND YOU MY HAIR WAS JUST DONE THAT SUNDAY AND I CAME BACK THAT SAME WEEK TO GET IT FIXED. Why should I pay u to fix your mistake smh never again. 85 per hour for nothing. read more

I went to nappy professional lockticians. I spent $520 on the hair, which was supposed to buy 3 bundles of 1B. The labor for installation was $85/hour. When I arrived, the extensions were not ready. The owner asked again to choose a color, rather than admit she was not ready, which is not professional. I waited an hour before work started, which means they do not value my time. At that exorbitant rate, I was charged while my locktician was putting band aids on her fingers, texting her daughter, and combining locks as if she didn't have enough from what I paid for. Rather than consulting with me about what size locks I wanted, they made a judgment on their own based on the amount of hair I has purchased At the end, the owner kept passing by asking the locktician why she was working so quickly, as if they were trying to run the clock and maximize profit.They were combining extensions of all different lengths, then offered to cut it even afterwards, despite the fact that it was not what I had paid for. While I was still seated, they turn off the a/c and began choking me as they mopped the floor with Clorox. At the end, I was charged for every single minute, breaks, phone calls, texts, band aids, combining hair. And she expected a tip, for a total of $1520. I left with my hair not twisted,and after a month it is coming apart as if I have neglected. I rate them a 3 out of 10. read more
