I really appreciated my time here with Ms. Sophia. She was absolutely kind and gave me the relief that I've been praying to get these past few months. As soon as I settled in she looked into my scalp with her tool and computer and asked me a few questions about my routine and any concerns I had. Then she proceeded to give me a detox mask, hydration mask both under the steamer. I don't fully recall the experience and everything that happened that day but only that my scalp felt so good and light! I opted to get a silk press because my silk press season is over by the time it's consistently 70+ degrees and want to get my hair pressed as many times as I can safely. It's good to have another stylist that I can trust with the health of my hair. Personally, my silk press wasn't as silky as I'm use to but my hair was flowing, healthy and looked very voluminous (-as my mom puts it lol) I enjoyed my services completely and am excited to see her at my next appointment! read more

There is honestly not one bad thing I can say about the service I received from Sophia nor Sophia herself. She was attentive, informative, knowledgeable, and caring of you/your hair. I did the thing--"THE BIG CHOP"-- and Sophia exceeded my expectation 10 fold. I would recommend 10/10. The precision of her cut was on point and she allowed me to ask as many and any questions throughout the process. I've found my go to hot stylist in NY--the search is over! read more

I had been looking for hair salons and stylists the could fit me in last minute for a hair trim and 2 strand twist. I am so glad that I found Sophia E. she responded to me right away and was told that she had an opening the next day first thing in the morning. I was greeted upon entering the hair salon by the two beauticians. Sophia's hands are like magic when she is washing your hair. You just want to take her home with you so she could give you scalp massages on a regular basis. Sophia took her time doing my hair and she asked me questions about my regimen. She was very easy to talk to and kind. She is concerned about your hair and how you feel about the work she has done before you leave the salon. I love how my hair turned out and I made my appointment for the weeks to come. read more

Sophia is fabulous. Not only is she gentle and thorough, she actually CARES and remembers the particulars about you and your hair. I love her and love that this black owned business is in the heart of midtown. Work sis. And can't wait to see you again! read more

10/10 stars! I visited Sophia yesterday with my hair a hot mess. It was dry with broken ends and my scalp has CCCA, an early form of an alopecia that predominantly impacts Black women. Sophia was kind and super knowledgeable and walked me through scalp images to see what was going on with my scalp and hair. She then took her time to set up an easy to follow regimen, gave me a great cut w/ scalp treatment and deep conditioner, and I walked out with a plan moving forward, products to use in my new regimen, and a follow up appointment. I'm so happy with my hair and could honestly cry tears of joy from finding an expert who can help me -- I had really given up hope. If you have any questions about scalp, hair, or just want an awesome cut, Sophia is IT! read more

I've been natural for a little over three years and have always depended on myself when it comes to taking care of my 4a/4b hair (that includes washing, styling, and trimming). But after botching my last trim, and seeing what followed, which was my ends breaking off at a scary rate, I realized that a proper trim was necessary to continue seeing growth in my hair journey. So, it was with trepidation and caution that I approached Sophia at Mane Advocates, with NO prior recommendation, just going off of what I'd read on Yelp. But I can now happily say that I don't plan on trusting anybody else with my hair as long as Sophia's around! I'd come to Sophia for a trim, blow out, and flat iron and she did all amazingly. My ends are beautiful, crisp and even. My hair shiny, sleek, and straight while still managing to have volume. I've never been so pleased with fresh-out-of-the-salon hair as I've been coming out of Sophia's chair. Sophia was even nice enough to give me advice on how to pin curl my hair properly so that I could wear the style as long as I wanted, and she also followed up the next day, making sure I was still pleased as she gave me a list of the products she used that she thought my help with my hair goals. Other pros: I arrived a little later than my scheduled time and was taken without ANY wait. I also arrived with my hair pretty tangled (I finger detangle, and my dead ends made it pretty impossible for me to detangle it properly that way) but Sophia got through it and was able to detangle my hair properly for styling. All in all, the results were what I dreamed my hair could look like after all these years of being patient. Everyone around me is raving about my bouncy, & honestly, perfect looking hair (It doesn't look real!), & with Sophia knowing how to do wet styles, dry styles, twists and twists outs, I just can't see myself risking my hair with anyone else. read more

If you are looking for a stylist and hair care expert you have found your girl. Sophia is very professional, skilled at what she does and she cares about the health of your hair. Another thing I must point out is she doesn't deviate from you scheduled appointment time. A visit to her salon is not an all day affair. You can literally get in and out looking fabulous. The salon is not the gossip type of salon as it is very cozy and everyone including Sophia is very nice. Check her out, you will not be disappointed. read more

I traveled from Maryland to see Sophia for my scalp and hair thinning issues. It was the best decision I could have ever made! She was so thorough and allowed me to ask questions. She pinpointed my issues and put me on the right track to getting my hair and scalp in better condition! To finally find out what was causing my issues and the next steps to take was amazing! Sophia is a expert in her field and I highly suggest anyone dealing with hair thinning or scalp issues book a consultation right away! Thank you for your professionalism and sharing knowledge! read more

I found Sophia through Yelp. I went to her website and was happy to see she was also a trichologist. She is very professional. She looked at my hair and told me what my issues were. She was thorough in her explanations regarding my hair, and she gave me numerous suggestions to help improve the health of my hair. If anyone is looking for a good trichologist, I would definitely recommend Sophia. I wish I would have went to her years ago, but better late than never. read more

I stumbled across Sophia at Crown Worthy through Yelp so it's only fair I add to her glowing reviews. She has such a peaceful and calm energy, you'll feel immediately at ease upon speaking with her. I'm super tender-headed and Sophia is gentle and takes her time when detangling and styling. I've been to her twice: once for a flat twist out and trim and the second time for Affirm Texture Release and press. I was impressed with both services and have finally found my stylist. I love that she asks what you want, discusses your regimen with you and gives thoughtful recommendations on how to achieve your hair goals. I was jonesing for a relaxer and she told me no, which I appreciate! She could have just taken my money and watched my color treated hair break off but she is a consultant as well as a stylist. Her prices are fair and she's transparent about them which is important to me. I highly recommend her and can't wait to go back! read more

Sophia's great! I've gone to her for my last 2 relaxers and I can already see and feel improvements in my hair. I still have a ways to go before my hair is back to full health but I love what I see so far. What I love even more about her is that she recommends great products for at home care also. Will definitely be back for my next relaxer and all to come! read more

I have no words for how amazing Sophia is. She was easy to talk to and knowledgeable. I went in for a virgin relaxer (it had been seven long months) and it was the best hair salon visit I've ever had. She took her time and worked my hair so gently! Not a single burn or over processed strand. She also recommend products that I could use at home in-between visits and even suggested that I could reach out to her if I ever needed to. Sophia is now definitely going to be the only one applying my relaxers! I'm excited to see how my salon visits with Sophia along with my upkeep in-between visits, helps my hair flourish. Definitely recommending her to those I know. Many thanks Sophia! See you for my touch-up! read more

I went to Sophia after not being able to get in with my regular stylist... Wow am I so happy that I did! She's amazing! I was very nervous about trying someone new, but she was kind and comforting. She's extremely professional and very pleasant, and that's not even the best part. Her hair styling skills are superb. I have 3C natural hair that's about bra strap length. She took amazing care of my hair. She washed it, steamed it, deep conditioned it, blew it out with ample heat protectant and gave me a spectacular trim. She actually doesn't get scissor happy. She only took what I asked. The end result? The silkiest, shiniest hair I've had In a very long time. Her blow out survived NYC humidity and my workouts! Then when I washed it, my beautiful curls came right back - healthier than ever. Sophia is gifted, talented and most definitely worth a try! I am soooo pleased!!! read more

I had been searching and looking for a true Trichologist and hairstylist for sometime. I came across Sophia and I read her reviews and thoroughly looked at her website. I decided to book with her and I wasn't disappointed nor dissatisfied. I booked for a Trichologist consult as well as styling. To see my scalp through a camera and she thoroughly explaining my scalp issues was what I had been looking for. I had a scalp treatment which was soothing. My scalp and hair feels and looks amazing!! Thank you Sophia... you have given me hope!! read more

I went to Sophia two days ago for a wash, blowout and flat iron. This was the first hair salon I've been to since living in New York, and I am so lucky to have found someone who knows what they're doing on the first try. Sophia was super nice to me, I felt really comfortable in her care and she was so gentle with my hair. She recommended that I use the steamer to soften my hair, and I'm so glad we did because even now my hair is so soft and smells so good! My hair came out really nice, straight, and flowing. I will definitely be returning, and am already recommending friends to her. Thanks again, Sophia :) read more

I went to Sophia late 2009 for a straw set. She actually gave me a flexi-rod set which gave the same effect. I loved her professionalism and efficiency. The style came out great for someone who was in the process of transitioning from relaxed to natural. I highly recommend her to the African American female seeking a stylist in the city. It's a bit expensive but remember this is Manhattan. If you want Brooklyn prices, go to BK. read more

I've been going to Sophia for a few months now. My hair was breaking, plus I had a serious problem in the middle of my head. Sophia has been wonderful, she makes sure she doesn't over relax my hair, which has my hair healthier and thicker. In addition, she was able to refer me to a dermatologist that gave me a couple of shampoo prescriptions that has done wonders for the itch I suffered from for years. I am really glad I found Crown Worthy, it has really made a difference in my hair quality. read more

I've had some breakage and damage to my hair over the years so I am very cautious about who handles my hair. I had a fantastic time with Sophia getting my hair relaxed, trimmed and blown-out. High level of professionalism and I'm very happy with my results. Reassuring to know your hair is in the hands of a trichologist! Highly recommended and I'll certainly be returning. read more

Sophia is a magician with giving me a painless relaxer. For someone who has suffered from sensitive scalp and near-certain burning each time I got a normal relaxer, Sophia has been able to work wonders and nurse my scalp back to health. Sophia is a scalp specialist. Since I started going to her religiously almost three years ago, I will not able to go anywhere for my relaxer/touch-up. After seeing Sophia, my prior scalp burns, scabs and scars - symptoms of past perms gone wrong - are gone. My hair is also healthy and experiencing growth. You will have a set appointment time and not have to wait like you would at non-appointment based salons. Sophia also gets to know her clients on a professional and personal level. You will definitely get your money's worth. I highly recommend her. read more

Sophia is kind, gentle, on-time, and she knows hair! She's everything I've ever wanted in a stylist. She's knowledgeable about products and truly listens to your hair and scalp concerns. I find that most salons in the city want you out as quickly as possible, and sure you'll look good, but there's no concern about how much your hair is damaged along the way. Sophia is a more forward thinking stylist. She's concerned about the health of your hair as well as how fresh you look! read more

Sophia is a versatile hairstylist in the heart of Manhattan. In my experience I have had seen her do short, long and medium length hair with ease. Sophia does magic with her hair skills. I initially came to see Sophia for a weave consultation and I was completely amazed by her professionalism and knowledge regarding all aspects of hair. I felt at ease during the first consultation and decided to have full weave. The quality of hair Sophia recommended and the style she gave me were a perfect fit for my face. The salon is professional with a selection of wine, cold beverages, and snacks for its customers. Sophia doesn't overbook or have you waiting for your scheduled appointment which is a big plus in my book! In addition to her talent Sophia also provides customers ways to maintain their healthy hair with recommendations regarding products and style techniques. Signature Styles by Sophia prices are also competitive with other salons. Sophia is a gem and I highly recommend her. read more

I went to Sophia over a week ago, and the blow out she gave me still looks fresh and new! I've never met a stylist that was so gentle, she literally detangles your hair without ANY pain. She listens to exactly what you ask for. When she trimmed my hair she took off the exact amount I wanted, which is not what usually happens with most stylists. I also got an Olaplex treatment which was great, it left my hair feeling super soft. If you have natural hair, of any texture, go see Sophia!! She's absolutely my new favorite stylist! read more

I have been going to Sophia for the last two years. She is really as good as it gets! My hair has grown so much and I always leave the salon feeling wonderful. Sophia is extremely professional and always makes appointments so you don't have to wait in the salon all day until she gets to you. Spending the entire day in the salon is overrated! Sophia gets you in and out. I actually can get a blow dry done on my lunch hour. I really respect a stylist who respects my time! read more
