She said she would be out of town that day even though she had a good 2-3 weeks to tell me that. Not the day right before the appointment. We both agreed to change the appointment to Wednesday instead. But later on she texts me again and tells me she will need a specific brand of hair. It was getting really frustrating because she would only contact you with information at 11PM -1AM. So everything was very last minute. I asked her if there were any beauty supply stores that sell that specific brand near her salon and she still didn't respond so I asked to reschedule. I'm not from the city so I don't know the area well enough to know if there are any beauty supply stores by her who sell that brand. She rudely texted me back saying "hun.... there are beauty supply stores in Harlem." Yes, I am aware of that but I don't know if any of them are going to carry this specific brand of hair. The beauty supply stores in my area didn't carry it and since we're in the middle of a pandemic I don't want to go around too many places searching. Either way I decided it would be best to reschedule, that way I could just buy the hair online and go when I'm more prepared instead of being rushed. Once I told her this she got super mad. She was pissed that I was trying to reschedule and said that she doesn't have to save my spot if I cancel (when as you can see from her text I didn't cancel she asked to reschedule). She wrote a long paragraph in all caps stating all the reasons why she was mad. Then she said bc she doesn't charge a fee for the appointment that I shouldn't care if it's canceled/changed bc spots can't be saved. Which is just completely inconsiderate of other ppls time. If that's the case why even make appointments at all if my spot isn't garenteed? Then she banned me from the store because I said we will have to either reschedule or just cancel the appointment. The bad reviews that she has on yelp about her unprofessional behavior is obviously very accurate. What kind of business owner acts this way especially when they are the one that caused the inconvenience in the first place? I think she would benefit more from listened to the advice from her customers on here and improving customer service rather than just retorting back in anger. I feel like I dodged a bullet and I'm glad I didn't support her establishment.

Very easy to make an appointment and find the shop. I went to Dickey for a new color and cut! What I loved about the experience is that you get to feel special like a celeb lol. Didnt have to say much of how I wanted my hair and Dickey just worked his magic and gave me an awesome manageable cut. He educates you during the process giving tips for your hair texture and how to maintain moisture etc. He also gave great pointers for how to get poppin' curls. If I didnt move across the world after my first experience with Hair Rules I would have definitely been a regular customer. I must say though I loove loove lovvee the quench ultra shampoo/conditioner. Its seriously like no other product. I was using ogx prior (and when I run out of hair rules) but his products really are moisturizing. Great slippage, non-drying. I dont feel like the oils of my hair are stripped upon application and I swear even with the conditioner alone my curls are well defined. I typically add a little curly whip at the end which keeps my hair frizzless (?) lol. The only product I had trouble using after my salon visit was the blow it out cream. I just felt it made my hair sticky even using a dime sized amount so unfortunately that product has been sitting on my shelf :(

Initially, I had a medium size locs which she didn't like how it was parted and pull out parts to make them smaller. I had no issue because I'm thinking the smaller the parts the longer the hold with less frizz. Well, on my second week it didn't hold well since I have different textures and the product she uses to retwist is "Mygel". Let me just say most locticians gets irritated when you questioned them about products use and normally won't service you the next time because they don't like you to be knowledgable on what products they put in your hair. So, a month has past and I wanted to go to her again since I couldn't find a affordable loctician at the time and was told she only accepts appointments through her appointment online site. I never received it which I was waiting for her to email it to me. No response. So I took the initiative to find her site myself and schedule it on there which she declined. I'm thinking ok. She wants to service a gullible client who's willing to pay over $300 for sister locks that would take her a day or two instead of a meaninglessly $100 of a traditional locs that will take her less than 200 hours to complete since I have very short starter locks (4 inches to be exact). Let me just say she done me a favor by declining me because I have found a way better loctician who's willing to school me on lock care and products for locks and scalp. Don't get me wrong because she's a cool person...only when you come to her asking about sister locks. If you have traditional locs then do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Or, you can try her out on a trial and error. I learned my lesson to choose loctitians who specializes in traditional locks.

Diane, the owner recommended a hair company for the extensions and I followed her recommendation. Prior to my appointment I asked Diane if the hair texture of the extensions were correct for my hair. She said yes. Appointment day approaches: Time of the appointment - 10am. When did I leave the shop? 9pm!! She twisted, took it out, re-twisted, looked left, looked right, up and down and basically seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. Diane's reasoning was that the extension hair didn't match my texture. I paid $261 dollars and left out feeling dissatisfied with the style. (Also her attitude was horrid) however, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and returned 2 weeks later. 2nd visit: Today. Now this is the part!! This time around I asked for a Sade ponytail (as it states on her site) which is basically a low ponytail that is braided with extension hair. I will let the pictures talk for themselves. I paid $125!! Again, she blamed the braiding hair, she blamed my hair length and everything else except her lack of skill. $125 and 3.5 hours later and voila!! Client beware!!!

A girlfriend of mine actually gave me the info for a different stylist that she uses regularly but upon calling up for a consultation, he referred me to Diane based on what I wanted to have done. I subsequently called Simplee Beautiful and made an appointment for the following week. I was initially relieved that I could just walk in and not have to have a consultationIt was a 2pm appointment and I got there pretty early but had to wait. I've never seen a set up like this before. It's like a salon mall. The location is a commercial building that housing various businesses. The salons are located on the lobby floor, towards the left at the Sola Salon Studios. There has to be at least twenty mini salons that make up the entire area. They're pretty cute, well-kept and clean. I basically just had to wait until the owner came to begin the process. She arrived at my appointment time and we spoke about what I would be getting done. I wanted to get a colour and have my hair lightened. We decided to cut a significant amount off because I want to make sure I'm starting off healthy. To reiterate, I do my hair myself so I treat, wash and style my own hair at home. Based on the state of my hair and what I explained my regiment to be, Diane offered up some key suggestions to help improve the state and health of my hair. She told me what I was doing wrong and told me exactly what to do and what products to use on my own based on my active lifestyle in order to achieve better results. She gave me a paper an pen so I could write everything down. I didn't walk out until 730 which was difficult. My stomach was growling and this is another reason why I kind of dislike natural salon visits because let's face it, it's going to take a longer time than if the hair is chemically treated or naturally straight which is another reason I prefer to do my own hair on my own time. If I'm going to be anywhere for that amount of time, Id rather be enjoying myself but to at least be in the comfort of your own home makes it a bit more tolerable. In her defense, my colour took a bit longer than expected because she did not use bleach to lift my hair colour, which I respect A LOT, and because my hair was so difficult, she had to process it for longer. In the end, I loved my colour and as for the cut; it's growing on me and I know it's for the best. The price, however, was a little outrageous. I ended up spending $300 for a cut, colour and twist-out style which I think is extravagant. I was prepared to pay close to that for what I originally intended to have done (dyeing clip-in pieces to match and style everything) but a big chunk of that got taken off the table while we were discussing possibilities so, I have no idea where the styling portion of my balance came out to $135.00. She had already quoted me $100 + $10 for the colour and extra processing time plus $55 for the cut. I am definitely willing to pay for something if it's worth it. I probably would have been a return customer had the end price not been so ridiculous and also not explained considering we changed the original plan, the fact that I was e-mailed a receipt without itemization and the length of time I spent, I probably would not come back. I basically spent 6 hours of my last vacation day, sweating under a dryer and steamer. As I said before, I was given a lot of gems of information during my visit and I definitely took notes, asked questions and picked Diane's brain for anything that might help improve my natural hair journey and I plan to implement her suggestions in my regiment, beginning this weekend after my heavy workout days. While I wouldn't go back, I am at least happy that I left looking good and got a chance to get information that will ultimately help me in the long run. If you do decide to check out this salon or any of the other salons located in Sola Salon Studios, make sure the stylist is aware of exactly what you want and you're both satisfied with what will be done and how much each service will cost. So, if you call up for an appointment and they schedule you, you may want to ask for a consultation first so that everyone is on the same page. I said before that I was initially relieved that she Diane did not require a consultation prior to an appointment but hindsight, I think I could have made a more educated decision on whether or not the price would be worth it as well as knowing exactly for what I am paying.
