So, I know we're meant to be a chain friendly independent supporting community on here, but, I have to detail my first experience of Nandos, as it was just so bloomin' good. It needs sharing. My diet's an interesting tale, a long one, which probably needs telling elsewhere; not here though. People have said I should pay the spice-based emporium a visit for a long time now but I've just never really got round to it. But, finally, I have. And wow. Just wow. I'd seen the Nandos sauce range for sale in the supermarket alongside my favoured Reggae Reggae before and not thought much of it, bar: "wow, they say that's really spicy, I want to try some" - but I generally stayed loyal to Levi Roots. Now, though, I've had a chicken doused in piri-piri sauce. And I'm sorry Levi, but I'm a convert. The food (including pudding) was impeccable. The service was mixed, but our main waitress was keen, polite and friendly. She loved piri-piri as much I did. I'll be back.

I heart Nando's...literally. I even have my own loyalty card...i'm a devoted fan you see. I first visited Nando's probably over a year ago and loved it instantly. I like how there's table service but things are so laid back that you get your own drinks and ice, cutlery and sauces. I've had to sit and wait for a table every time I've visited this particular Nando's, but never had to wait longer than around ten minutes. Plus waiting time is a great time for picking out exactly which dish you want! I always go with my friend and we share one of the combi-platters of chicken and chips, cooked to medium spice then lash on the peri-peri hot sauce. If you are a fan of chicken (or chips, try the peri-peri seasoned chips) then you'll most likely love Nando's. The price is great so it's ideal if you're on a budget and the restaurant is huge and looks like something fresh out of the Rainforest Cafe. Top marks from me!

Nandos chicken is really nice and their spicy rice is too. The sauce is worth coming for too. Not sure about everything else. I'm not sure all this warrants the hype for this particular chain. Everytime i've been the service has been hit and miss and confusing and i've always had a feeling that the staff are trying to rush our group out to get a new group in. The service is really odd in Nandos. The drinks menu coud do with sprucing up too. They need a larger selection. This place can get VERY busy. I'd go on weekdays and avoid weekends.

Unlike other outlets nearby, they don't charge more for the location which is a credit to Nando's ethos as a brand as I often feel frustrated at the pricing of food at motorway services, a visit to Starbucks across the way or the nearby Texaco garage will make you realise how rare this is. The staff seemed pretty friendly and the indoor area was a little small, but still had enough room considering the large communal seating area outside. It felt pretty modern inside. This store has been closed for quite a long time due to COVID-19 restrictions limiting travel, but they did re-open in April, despite visiting not long after the re-opening, the staff did seem friendly and happy to be back, which was nice to see. I do think based on the location it would be nice if they adapted their menu similar to what they've done at London Gatwick, which is the only Nando's in the country to have a breakfast menu, I think that could do really well here based on the location and a lack of similar offerings within Extra Skelton Lake. My food quality was fine, I did find the chips tasted re-heated, they weren't hot and were slightly soggy so it was disappointing, again I do find the takeaway packaging to be poor quality and messy, but this is common at all Nando's locations. The chicken always seems to be good here though! 3*

Forever, I've seen the one Portuguese listing, and forever I've ignored it -- I didn't believe it'd be true Portuguese. Spoiler alert: I was right. It really isn't. However, this isn't to say it's awful. The 'Portuguese' part of this place is that they serve spicy, charcoal-grilled chicken. A half portion costs £4.70 and it's a sizeable bit of bird. You can get the whole one for under seven quid, if you're inclined. I chose medium heat and this was fine. The chicken was well cooked and the chips are your basic take away fries. What's annoying about this place is that they don't specialise. They've gone out on a limb and decided to offer something no where else in Leeds does, but they don't do it mind-blowingly. I could barely call it authentic, although I've not been to Portugal. They also serve a ton of other cuisine on the menu -- lasagne, curry, etc -- so it's sort of a jack-of-all affair. I did however make the whole thing worth it by ordering a bubblegum milkshake -- it's bright blue and it's sugar-tastic. I definitely like that! In summary: it's fine. I wouldn't say it blew my mind.

Nando's became a bit of a craze a few years ago, and I've been part of that - I probably go every few months or so, and I do love it dearly. There is plenty to love after all - the casualness, the refillable drinks, the refreshing lack of waitering service, and of course the expertly marinated and grilled chicken. This Nando's, being in Kirkstall's forever busy entertainment park, should really be bigger, however, as it attracts hoardes of people every night of the week. If you go on a weekend, expect a half hour wait and your food to take another half hour to come. If you really fancy a Nando's, I'd recommend the one in town - they're just better equipped to cope with a rush there.

My friend took me to Nando's in The Light and I've been converted ever since. I was initially a bit scared by the whole 'ordering at a counter like in Maccies but then going to sit down and oh my god will they bring me my food what happens with the drinks aaaaaah' thing, but now I know what I'm doing it's not so bad. This particular Nando's is nice. The decor's the same as in all the rest, but there are high ceilings, and there's plenty of room too, so even when it's busy it doesn't feel jam packed like the one in The Light. The service is a little on the slow side, particularly if you're getting a take-out, but I don't mind becuse of the tasty chickeny goodness that's on its way to my tummy omnomnom. Ooh and the olives are super yummy.

Over the years, I've found the choice of food outlets quite limiting here so it's quite refreshing to get a Nandos. I think it might now be open nearly a year but I only managed to get there for my 1st visit 2 weeks ago. The restaurant echos the Nandos theme with the dark wood tables, booths and dodgy plants. The perky staff give you a warm greeting and if possible offer you anywhere you like to sit. i usually like to sit by the kitchen to watch them at work. The experience begins with conquering the huge menu- chicken in nearly every form possible, vege patties/burgers, salads and for the ultimate carnivore- a steak roll! The ordering has to be done at the counter to specify the product, the spicy level, the accompaniment and the drink. Many combinations are possible and you could visit many times before they'd be exhausted! The food is delivered to the table but you have to help yourself to cutlery, extra plates, unlimited drinks and the famous sauces. Don't be fooled by the 'wild herb' sauce- it's more lethal that the XXL hot. The concept is very good, it's fast food which is also quite civilised but you just can't help picking the chicken up and getting it all over the face (that's my technique anyway!) The only complaint i have about this chain is they're usually quite slow in cleaning the tables and I also on this visit saw a server pick up some cutlery off the floor and put it in the cutlery bucket where customers help themself. I know when you help yourself to sauce/cutlery/plates there will be some element of not being very clean but overall- its a good place to eat. Oh, and they offer a loyalty card to ultimately get a full chicken- for free!!!!!!!
