I work in Leeds city centre and have been here a few times for lunch. It's not great and I've never been impressed, but there are five or six takeaways in a row and I usually just go in whichever has the shortest queue. Today was my last visit to Chicko's. The greasy-haired guy who works on the till is not only the most miserable, rude person in existence, but he seems to have a constant cold and is always wiping his snotty nose on the back of his hand. So hygiene is clearly an issue.
Most of the "meal deals" are advertised with a can of Pepsi included, but every time I have bought a meal from Chicko's, I've had to ask for the drink specifically. It seems they are hoping that people won't ask, so they can save 30p here and there.
The last straw came today. I ordered a donner kebab (don't judge me) and the snotty one took my cash without a word of thanks, as usual. Actually thinking back, I'm not sure that he even made eye contact. Anyway, about thirty seconds later an Asian guy brought HIS kebab back to the counter, complaining that it wasn't fresh. The chef appeared from the back and argued that it was indeed fresh, and he had only just cut it, so the customer asked if it was Istanbul donner- clearly a well respected brand with takeaway regulars. The chef reassured him it was Istanbul donner, but offered to replace the meal. The customer then took a seat, but shouted over that he still wanted salad and chilli sauce.
Five minutes passed, and then my kebab was finally ready. Funnily enough, it had salad and chilli sauce all over it, neither of which I asked for, and the whole thing looked suspiciously man-handled. On the previous occasions I've bought kebabs here, they've always come out plain. Today, however, I'd seen the chef putting a polystyrene container in the microwave, and can only conclude that I was served a second hand kebab. So in conclusion, this is a corner cutting, unhygienic and underhand establishment. It might be cheap in Chicko's but even so, you don't get what you pay for. read more
