Out steps Shai Nan Kebab! I have been coming here for Kebabs and take aways for at least 6 years and have never been dissapointed. Sadly, last year it was closed for a spell after a fire destroyed most of the inside yet the new place is bigger and better than ever. Most of the skewered kebabs are kept in the chiller fridge for you to salivate over, as well as a great selection of Pakoras/samosa/bahji's. There is nothing done to any of this food in secret- the kitchen is all open plan as well as the prep area so you can see the cleanliness of the food/utensils/staff/prep areas. The skewered kebabs are cooked fresh to order in the tandor so there is a bit of waiting for your order but hey, who doesn't appreciate a wait when you can get to see the life-cycle of the food you are going to eat. The chapatis/rotis/naans are all freshly rolled and cooked to order so again, no 'kept' food. The menu is quite accomodating for most tastes- kebabs/curries/chicken/burgers/fish/chicken portions and then a new selection of desserts and ice cream shakes. Personally, we usually go for the 'Shai Nan Special kebab' which @ £7.50 offers chicken, lamb, shish.donner and masses of salad all wrapped in a freshly griddled naan with lashings of chilli and yoghurt sauce! Definitely one to open the top button of the jeans for! The Mr and i popped by here Sunday eve and got a Lamb tikka naan and I just had a craving for the donner meat and chips- absolutely spot on for both. Even after a 20 min wait we were still happy. Like i said, there are a lot of Take away shops on this shopping parade yet I've never considered trying any of the others as Shai Nan has never let me down and with the regular staff, open-plan kitchen & prep area and a great reputation I can quite justify driving out of my way to go here as I'm guarenteed to get exactly what I want-without fail!

She only eats chips & cheese so anywhere suits her but I have to have kebab! Being as we had to trek to the station to get a taxi we passed Mill Hill. Now I'd usually ask the taxi to take a detour past my very regular kebab shop but seeing as there was no Q and the place was clean and it actually smelled appetising we popped in! Kebab meat and salad on chips and cheese is usually something ppl get wrong (there is a specific science to it!!!) but they got it right- with a very short wait. It didn't last long- tasty enough to demolish every last scrap! The downfalls here are- It gets MEGA busy and due to this is gets food remnants and packaging left on tables so doesn't look inviting They never seem to have enough staff so sometimes you have to wait AGES!(or what feels like ages when you're drunk!) They also cook food to order so there is a wait (also a plus I'd say!) All in all it's a reliable stop off point for a late night feed (just don't go past in the daylight!)

If we're being honest, there are much more refined kebabs you can find, but it's just not that sort of place. The guys are the counter are always friendly - especially when you consider how much abuse they have to take from drunken idiots. Cheap and cheerful, which is how it should be.

Fingers crossed it's temporary, since they were my absolute fave, but there have been a few things not-so-right of late! I will say, however, they're still the only place I know of who do butter chicken, which is delish. Firstly, the time before last there was a weird unidentifiable item in my butter chicken. I couldn't be sure, but it seemed the texture of fish - maybe crab or lobster? It didn't affect the rest of the dish, which I devoured, but I didn't enjoy that. Then I ordered raita to go with some other bits, which was really just not very nice. And lastly, a few days ago I attempted butter chicken again and the sauce was a lot more watery than usual. Not terribly thin, but much less creamy. Sad times! Despite this, I think one last chance is in order. I did love them so much before, after all. Or maybe I need to actually try a different menu item for once, and branch out...

They offer free delivery and accept cash only payments. They quote 45 minutes for delivery, but normally our delivery comes in about 30. I think the delivery time depends on how far you live from them though and I think i live on the edge of their 5 mile delivery radius. The food always tastes like its been cooked fresh and it always arrives piping hot. We've tried their Nan Kebabs. They have both kinds of kebabs if you prefer your kebab in a pita bread. Their nan bread by the way is awesome. I recommend the Chicken Tika Nan kebab. It's enough food for two people and is very nice. It's full of succulent chicken and veg. I cant eat a whole one - but it does hold up to reheating. It wasn't greasy the next day. We also order the meal deal for two which has their huge samosas. To be fair there is enough food in this meal deal for four people. We always have leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. Overall the food is excellent and the price is right. Their service is also friendly and prompt. They offer a 10% discount to students & nursing homes when requested. They also have a 10% off on collections over £20 - but this excludes meal deals and set meals. Free delivery in a 5 mile radius to LS7 2PW

However after living in Leeds for a few years I have managed to sort the rubbish from the superb (and there is a lot of rubbish!). A particular favourite of mine is Zak's! Zaks specializes in Indian cuisine however offers other dishes such as kebabs, burgers, chicken and calzone's which are just as yummy! (Calzone combo is just amazing!) Zaks curries are a tiny bit more expensive than some of the thrown together takeaways in Leeds, nevertheless with that extra bit of money bumped on the price, you know you are going to get a quality takeaway! I always order a chicken pasanda from Zaks which comes in at £5 which is really reasonable for a really tasty dish! All their sundries and startes are equally yummy scrummy with a huge selection of nahns, rices and bhaji's! (oooh getting hungry now!!) In addition to the obvious Korma's, Vindaloo's and Masala's, Zaks creates dishes created for your tastes. I always add sultanas to my pasanda and they are more than happy to do it, often for free! If you are eating as a group the set meals are a really good idea. Not only do they offer a variety of Indian dishes but are good for money! (Set Meal for 4 could feed the 500 and only costs £30!) Perfect for a night in with film or in my case, X Factor! My pals always say that Zaks does "THE BEST" donner meat and chips. It is not dripping with grease, it is not dry and is not too large. My girl friends swear by it as their favourite takeaway guilty pleasure! The pizza's are the weakest point on the menu and are nothing to rave about. But if you stick to the curry menu, calzones,, chicken and donner meat you really cannot go wrong!

It was my last night in Leed and we just got back from Fruity Friday, so it was like...2 am and one of the places that's still open is Zaks. I think we waited for 30 minutes to finally have our food delivered. I thought that was fair enough. It really didn't feel like 30 minutes because we were all gossiping and having so much fun. haha I have to say, finally! I got my fix of Indian curry!! I've been craving it ever since I got to Leeds and I Zaks didn't disappoint! We had the spicy curry (forgot what it's called, sorry!) and the butter chicken. The only reason I remember butter chicken is because I have been saying it over and over again during the 4 days I was in Leeds, my friends got sick of me mentioning it 24/7. I finally shut up when I got my chapati and butter chicken!!!!! I love love love love the butter chicken! perfectly buttery and the chapati was chewy and pull-able. haha so goood I can cry... The spicy one was a bit too spicy but it's good from time to time to switch from the butter chicken to the spicy one. I wish I have Zaks and my friends here in the US ='( haha oh well. If I were in Leeds, I'd probably order from Zaks for 1 week straight or until I get sick of butter chicken and chapatis. hahaha

It's a little bit…read moredifferent to your average take away, as the menu avoids stacking up the greasy options of donner meat and shit burgers, and veers more towards special grills and other treats. The first meal I had was their lamb chops from the grill, mash, and veg. I have to say, I was really impressed. The lamb chops were cooked beautifully, and had a lovely charcoal grill taste. The mash, which could easily have been smash I suppose, tasted lovely and buttery and the veg were freshly steamed and piping hot. Considering the cost, it was a really decent meal to order for tea - most of the time, getting a take away means eating more than you need, and isn't a healthy option. The second meal I had was their tikka masala. I opted for the chef special version, which was a quid more, just to see how special it was. It was pretty special. Made spicier than usual, it had a nice kick, and was well balanced. The only thing I wished was that it had more sauce for my rice. Chips were good, and plentiful. I'd been piggy, and ordered charcoal paneer too, which was an excellent choice. You get six huge pieces of paneer, herbed and charcoaled, and they were delicious. It all came with three little dips, garlic mayo, raita, and another red minty one, all of which were lush. They even gave me a wee salad box - nice touch! And nice try to keep me healthy, Lahore. Sadly I scoffed the other bits before I could think about being good to myself... Finally, although it's not rocket science, their milkshakes are to die for. I went for the Rolo shake, which was everything I desired it to be - sweet, chocolatey, caramel overtones, and blended really well. It cooled down the curry a treat, and I highly recommend you give 'em a go. I'll let you know - the milkshake actually swung the decision to get Lahore. I love a decent beverage selection! So, if you're in the area, or just want to avoid going shopping - this is a decent spot to grab a bite.

They offer a wide variety of choices to both meat lovers and vegetarians. They now seem to have a wider variety than the traditional Indian takeaway with serving from Flame grilled Steak to the Sponge cakes. Our personal favourite is their biryani and whether you are regular or not, you are served with a smile on their face. Their own website now offers you a loyalty reward system like supermarkets where you can claim points towards free food now. A good place worth trying if you dont really know where to order but still want at least decent food if not excellent
