Still in search of a good Caesar salad, I stopped into Nandos on yet another long Monday lunch.
I'm never quite sure about how I feel about the big chain places. But, as soon as I walked in the guy who was serving shook me by the hand as he welcomed me! I don't think that has ever happened to me before in a restaurant (if only all the staff there were as lovely). He was a legend and shall live on forever in my memories of idle Monday lunches in York :)
I think its supposed to be a Portuguese themed place, but pretty typical in format, dark wood tables, quirky touches here and there to disguise the functional diner feel of the restaurant. If you've ever been to a Las Iguanas, or a Giraffe or La Tasca its all sort of familiar but not wholly unpleasant.
I have to admit though the salad I really, really enjoyed. Crisp juicy lettuce, cheesy but not too cheesy. I went for some medium spicy chicken on it which did go really well :)
I'd definitely go back for the salad.
Negatives, would be the price, I just wanted a coke to drink. which cost me £2. I know you can refill them as much as you'd like, but really there is only so much coke on guy can drink at lunchtime and it isn't two pounds worth. Overall though, the salad and the drink came to about £10 which isn't too bad for lunch but leaning to the expensive side of things.
The thing I liked the least, was the guy (who I assume was the manager). That appeared from nowhere and collected my plate about as soon as I put my fork down. I know it was lunchtime, but it was empty and I'd like 10 minutes to have a sit and digest a little before feeling like I was being rushed out of the place.
I'd still recommend it, good salad and shake-hands-serving-guy was awesome! read more
