Now this will be a shock to Americans. All of us love Prime Rib with horseradish sauce and Yorkshire pudding, but in York itelf they only eat it at Sunday afternoon brunch! There are hundreds of restaurants with every cuisine from around the world in York: Indian, Nepalese, Polish, Chinese, Sushi, Italian, French, Pizza, Burgers, McDonald's, and at least 1000 pubs, most of them good. But--try to get Prime Rib and Yorkshire Pudding any day but Sunday, and you get laughed out of town. Which forces you to eat at the York Roast Co. The food is edible but quite unlike the prime rib you expect. It is cut in small pieces, slathered in brown gravy, dumped on top of some veggies and served in a box. It is sort of the Kentucky Fried Chicken version of a Prime Rib dinner, except the quality is one notch lower. The people are nice but you pick your box up at the counter, fast food style. The ambience screams Henry the Eighth ate here, and not in a good way. Thank god for the giant brick pilar in the middle holding the building up. Avoid it if you can, and wait for Sunday Roast someplace else. read more

First time trying this place and it's the first place we ate at in York. I had the Beef Yorky Pud Roast with Horseradish while my husband ordered the Ham Yorky Pud Roast with cranberry. Apparently, the horseradish is wasabi flavor. Good thing I like wasabi. The beef was not tender though. I don't know if it's the bread that was bitter but I didn't like the food that much. The lady on the cashier was nice though. Although, the place was not tidy nor clean. read more

We had such high hopes for this place based on a few Tik Tok videos. We got several beef wraps, and a beef and a veggie pudding roast. We loved the Yorkshire puddings we had in Carlisle and we were hoping we'd have another great experience like that one. When we dug into our meals we were sadly disappointed. They were very dry with hardly any gravy. I liked the veggies but they weren't very flavorful or moist. The dressing was dry as well. There was no salt or seasonings on the meat either. Most of us didn't finish our meals and we left knowing we will never come back here again. Highly overrated! If you find yourself coming here, order double or triple the gravy and hopefully it will be better than ours was. read more

This place, on Low Petergate in the historic old town, is just blocks from York Minster. Open from 10 AM until late, it serves four different roasted meats: beef, pork, ham, or turkey, atop a large Yorkshire pudding and accompanied by roasted potatoes, mixed vegetables, and gravy. The meat is sliced or shredded for easy consumption. There is quite a bit of seating on the upper level--order prior to going up the stairs. Service is fast and pleasant. This place was fantastic! We're from the US and wanted to try one of these Yorkshire pudding wraps after seeing them on tik tok. They did not disappoint. It's basically a burrito sized Yorkshire pud stuffed with everything you get in a Sunday roast. Meat, roasty potatoes, stuffing, carrots and gravy. It was messy but awesome. The guy behind the counter was helpful and guided us through our order. It's take out only but there are lots of places to sit nearby. Definitely worth a visit! read more

We found out about this place on YouTube, so we went there for lunch. It was great!! Staff were very friendly and service is quick. Dining area upstairs is by first come and it was full that day since it was raining, but we found a spot as soon as we walked up there. The food came out very slow and food was very bland and non-distinct. The employee didn't ask for which sauce option I wanted and made the choice for me without asking - which was gravy and apply sauce(pretty yucky together, if you ask me). The tables were super dirty. We just happened upon this gem while wandering about the quaint, historic and quirky town of York. Nothing says 'British' like roast and Yorkshire pudding and the York Roast Co does it in a tasty and imaginative presentation: we chose the pork roast (with all the fixings which included veggies, potatoes and a stuffing ball) smothered in a lovely gravy. This tasty mix was served with a huge Yorkshire pudding as its bowl! The pork was oh so tender and perfectly cooked, veggies sublime, roast potatoes soft and comforting, the stuffing seasoned just right. The display on the window looks better than the actual taste of the food. I would give 3.5 stars if I could. Ordered the roast pork sandwich which comes with stuffing, cracklings and an apple spread. Also got a side of roasted potatoes. The sandwich was a bit dry, but tasted ok. The cracklings were the major disappointment as they were highly salted, almost making them inedible. The potatoes were cut in such large chunks that you had to cut them down just to eat, smaller would be better. The price was very reasonable and the service was friendly and fast. This establishment also had free WiFi which is great. Overall, the food wasn't spectacular, but it's cheap, fast and open late. read more

There seem to be a few of these locking around York town centre, and you're lured in by the joints of roasted meat sitting on the hot shelf window display. There's an option to sit in or take away, and you simply order your meal at the counter and collect when it's boxed up. I went for the roast turkey Yorkshire pud, with veg and roast potatoes. The pudding was a good size, and there was plenty of veg, but your portion of meat is methodically, and rather meanly, measured out on a scale. Still, the turkey was moist and tasty, the vegetables likewise, which, in a lot of eateries, you might find them dried out and undercooked, and the pudding a good mix of crispy and gravy sodden. I would like to see better cutlery supplied, as the plastic knives were used more like saws to get through the thick pudding crust, and I worried that I might end up snapping a bit of my fork off in my meal. read more

This is a brilliant idea, my only complaint is that there isn't one local to me! I especially loved the takeaway Yorkshire Pudding Wrap.

Food we received looked NOTHING like the picture outside, or the food they have displayed in the window. The pork roll we had was bland and had a ball of stuffing (literally a round ball) shoved in the centre and pork crackling chips thrown in around the roll as opposed to in side as shown in the advertising. I have always thought over cooked vegies were synonomous with British cuisine but clearly not as here the beans and carrots were nicely cooked. I had the Yorkshire pudding (we are in Yorkshire afterall!) which comes filled with a meat of your choice (I had Pork) stuffing, vegies, roast potatoes and all these goodies are then swimming in gravy. The meat was OK it's hard not to make pork dry, the potatoes good and so was the gravy. All in all a great quick meal after a morning of walking around beautiful York. read more
