Ham, roasted potatoes, gravy
Peter T.

This place, on Low Petergate in the historic old town, is just blocks from York Minster. Open from 10 AM until late, it serves four different roasted meats: beef, pork, ham, or turkey, atop a large Yorkshire pudding and accompanied by roasted potatoes, mixed vegetables, and gravy. The meat is sliced or shredded for easy consumption. There is quite a bit of seating on the upper level--order prior to going up the stairs. Service is fast and pleasant. It's a good value for the money.

Messy but delicious Yorkshire pudding wrap.

This place was fantastic! We're from the US and wanted to try one of these Yorkshire pudding wraps after seeing them on tik tok. They did not disappoint. It's basically a burrito sized Yorkshire pud stuffed with everything you get in a Sunday roast. Meat, roasty potatoes, stuffing, carrots and gravy. It was messy but awesome. The guy behind the counter was helpful and guided us through our order. It's take out only but there are lots of places to sit nearby. Definitely worth a visit!

Pork york pudding with gravy and apple sauce. The apply sauce ruined the whole thing.. if you ask me.

The food came out very slow and food was very bland and non-distinct. The employee didn't ask for which sauce option I wanted and made the choice for me without asking - which was gravy and apply sauce(pretty yucky together, if you ask me). The tables were super dirty. I wiped the area clean myself so I can sit and I didn't see any employee coming to the dining area while I was eating to clean wipe the tables.

We just happened upon this gem while wandering about the quaint, historic and quirky town of York. Nothing says 'British' like roast and Yorkshire pudding and the York Roast Co does it in a tasty and imaginative presentation: we chose the pork roast (with all the fixings which included veggies, potatoes and a stuffing ball) smothered in a lovely gravy. This tasty mix was served with a huge Yorkshire pudding as its bowl! The pork was oh so tender and perfectly cooked, veggies sublime, roast potatoes soft and comforting, the stuffing seasoned just right. A dollop of applesauce alongside made us smile every bite! -Kudos to Miguel, David, Nadine and Josh for an epic gastronomical experience!- PS once you get your order head upstairs to the casual dining area to relax, savor the goodness of the York Roast Co and people watch from a window seat! Cheers!

Had a quick grab and go pork sandwich (beast) Service was prompt and efficient and the spot is clean. The sandwich is juicy and meat is tender. The apple gravy (vinegar) balances the meat well. Slightly pricey given its a takeout. 4/5 stars

I guess i expected too much for a yorkshire pudding but it was just okay in my opinion. Ive had better yorkshire pudding in london so this is not for me. But do come here for some authentic yorkshire pudding though. Cheers!!

How unique -- your entire "Sunday Roast" in a sandwich. LOVED the "YorkyPud" -- choose your roasted meat, they add veggies, some gravy, and wrap in Yorkshire Pudding - voila! Got some horseradish to go on top for a little extra kick. Could have eaten two of these -- they were so yummy. Place is casual and not expensive and I think they have several locations in York. A MUST TRY!

Yorkshire wrap, that's all ...

Apparently a Yorkshire wrap is the latest craze and I decided to give it a go even though I usually hate eating without cutlery - unfortunately the upstairs dining area was closed and I ended up perching agains the wall by the counter (classy!). You basically get a Sunday roast rolled up in a massive Yorkshire pudding and it's actually quite tasty.

Turkey Yorkshire pud!

There seem to be a few of these locking around York town centre, and you're lured in by the joints of roasted meat sitting on the hot shelf window display. There's an option to sit in or take away, and you simply order your meal at the counter and collect when it's boxed up. I went for the roast turkey Yorkshire pud, with veg and roast potatoes. The pudding was a good size, and there was plenty of veg, but your portion of meat is methodically, and rather meanly, measured out on a scale. Still, the turkey was moist and tasty, the vegetables likewise, which, in a lot of eateries, you might find them dried out and undercooked, and the pudding a good mix of crispy and gravy sodden. I would like to see better cutlery supplied, as the plastic knives were used more like saws to get through the thick pudding crust, and I worried that I might end up snapping a bit of my fork off in my meal.

The waft of smell coming from The York Roast is undeniable and promising. The roasted meat looks fresh and juicy though the vegetables may be a little dried out by the end of the day. It all adds up to a hearty meal, somewhat saltier than necessary, but deliciously meaty and complemented well with the mixed vegetables and simple gravy.

The turkey pudding was alright but filling. The meatballs has the strong taste of thyme. Price is just right but not a big fan. I should probably try the authentic one.

This is a brilliant idea, my only complaint is that there isn't one local to me! I especially loved the takeaway Yorkshire Pudding Wrap.

Wonderful food, cozy atmosphere, great beer and muled wine. We loved this restaurant! We ordered…read moredumplings and perogis and highly recommend them!

Excellent food, nice setting, and friendly staff. We very much enjoyed the whole experience…read more The food is delicious and beautifully prepared. The beef cheek was unctuous, and the vegetable accompaniment has lovely notes of cinnamon and juniper in the slaw portion. The hunters stew was filling but not heavy, and well seasoned. The oscypek cheese starter is similar to halloumi, with a firm, salty chew that gets your tastebuds going. The beer selection covers the gamut of Polish beers, from light lagers to raisin-y bocks (Koźlak). There's a wide range of vodka cocktails we did not try, plus ciders and wines. And the truly house made desserts are worth saving room for. I usually pass on dessert, but the cheesecake (not sweet) and poppyseed cake were too much to resist -- and I'm glad we didn't. So filling we brought half back home. The staff was friendly, and our waitress was charming and helpful, and even helped me understand the variations of the gołabki cabbage rolls that my grandmother had called galumpkies. Turns out there are many versions (and names) of these stuffed rolls across Eastern Europe. Now I know! Definitely worth putting on your York agenda. PS: the actual restaurant name is The Blue Barbakan
