I think one of the things that really becomes difficult to find as you head north is good vegetarian food. It seems as though most restaurants have almost exclusively meat dishes. Though I'm not strictly vegetarian, back home in the states I rarely eat anything with meat (it's a special occasion thing). Having enjoyed pubs and the like, I was somewhat surprised that with so many local colleges, York seems to be lacking for veggie options (the younger generation seems to be more interested in a plant-based diet). Honestly, I'd be happy with a couple choices of dinner-sized salads!
It seems that they are quite busy. They turned a few away while I sat and ate and some who wished to make reservations for the night of we're unable to do so because they were so booked up. My suggestions is to call the day before, if you can, and see what their schedule looks like.
Needless to say, with a wait or reservation, it's popular. You can access their menu on their website. I believe they change it, so for really up to date items, check there.
The service was lovely. Very quick, helpful and friendly service. They brought a craft of water, which was nice. Debating between a couple items, I opted for the mushroom burger with halloumi. It didn't disappoint. The fries/chips were also tasty- a hint of spice with paprika, but the paprika is smoked, so they also have a Smokey flavor. Very good; try them without ketchup. read more
