At the far end of the bar there is an art work describing 'Mojo' and throughout the decor of the bar gives off the essence of cool, without being arrogant. I've always found the staff to be vibrant and friendly and they're certainly expert in their knowledge of the drinks they serve. Be it cocktails or a continental beer they can advise you well, depending on your palette. The music is cool, with a great mix of inoffensive indie and electro. You can dance, albeit be it at your own risk, since the bar is small and often tightly packed! Drinks might be a little more on the expensive side, and they don't serve anything on tap (at least they never used to), but that has the bonus side-effect of enticing a good crowd into the bar. Coctktails and interesting beers are on the menu so you're spoiled for choice! So, prop up the bar, grab a window stool or nab a comfy seat at the back, either way you'll be certain to have a good time.

Hidden down a side street near Gatecrasher, Mojo is a tiny little bar that does everything it can to be different from anywhere else in Leeds - and it succeeds in this aspect. A wide selection of continental beers are on offer - you can choose your own, or simply leave it to the barman to decide by asking simply for a beer. They also offer spirits and wines with a similarly global feel, and play some absolutely quality tunes, old and new, spread across eclectic genres such as soul, indie and rock. Mojo isn't cheap, but it's something different from what the rest of Leeds has to offer, so I'd definitely recommend it if you've got the dosh.

Came to this restaurant with a vegetarian friend who doesn't usually get to eat at BBQ restaurants, but the menu had a wide selection of alternatives. Meals were impeccable, would 10/10 eat again. The decor was fun and different, made me feel like I was eating at a diner in the deep depths of the South of USA. Will be back :)

The flavor and smokiness of the meats was spot on, and passed the "no sauce" test easily. All meats had a good smoke rinThe ribs were my favorite, followed by the chicken. The breast was tender and juicy, no dry at all. The brisket was satisfactory, good flavor, but I like it a bit fattier than what was put out. That's a very tough cut to get perfect, but it was perfectly edible as is. The sauces were god; complimented the meats well. This misses one star for the slaw. It is a Carolina style sweet & sour, but it wasn't quite sweet & sour enough. I applied some NC vinegar based bbq sauce, which improved it a lot. The staff was efficient and very pleasant, and provided great information about the food and restaurant. I'd come back, and will state for the record that this is true American style Smoked BBQ.

The aptly titled Fortune Cookie is the resident Chinese takeaway on this street, and it's not half bad. Being aimed mainly at students and drunkards (these often overlap), the place isn't particularly refined or different. It offers exactly what it should do for a takeaway in a place like this - a massive menu, tasty but greasy Chinese food (from snacks to full meals) at prices that students can afford. I don't know if they actually sell fortune cookies. They'd look pretty stupid if they didn't.

There I was having a great Saturday night in with my best friend I hadn't seen in months. She was too full of cold to venture out into the mad streets of Leeds on a Saturday evening. So we arranged a Fortune Cookie delivery, having had food from there before i was expecting hot tasty delicious grub. Fortune Cookie you let yourself down, me down and embarrassed me in front of my hungry friend. I don't expect to find a 1/4 of duck already nearly cold and already shredded off the bones for us! The prawns in the Sweet and Sour mix tasted odd and they tasted nasty and metallic in my ill friend's special fried rice! So odd that we both had to leave our dishes after 2 mouthfuls realising they just didn't taste right. The worst thing of all is that Fortune Cookie, you served my strictly vegetarian for 27 years fiance with vegetables in Szechuan sauce... with a PRAWN in it! This is not good for someone who asks for a vegetarian dish! So this was not an enjoyable eating experience and I was frankly embarrassed to be serving my friend and fiance with such food! I didn't open my fortune cookie that evening...in fear it would tell me I was about to have a tummy bug. Ps The one star was for the chips.

Rolling up to Distrikt...well it's a bit ominous to say the least. Located on a side street, dimly…read morelit, it could have the potential to be some dodgy underground typa place. You get this gothic vibe from the building, the blue lit sign, and if it's a foggy day, that too. Entering Distrikt is a totally different matter, and when you descend the basement stairs into the main club/bar area it's a treat of colour and intimacy. Low level lighting, that could make for a romantic evening, with some delish mediterranean food, seafood mezze to start with followed by one of the cook pot dishes, which can be a side, but I just fancied something hot and savoury. I decided on the lentil stew and chorizo, whilst my counterpart ordered the lentil and butterbean clay pot stew. Piping hot and lovely. AND! after that we caught a glimpse of the deserts, which were interesting, balsamic strawberries, licorice infused figs, their special lemon syrup doughnuts, and a couple of other inexpensive sweet treats, which are great to order one of each if there's more than two of you. In addition to this the bill didn't break the bank either, £30 for the two of us including the starter, two mains, two desserts, and three soft drinks.

I truly couldn't be more impressed with this fantastic establishment. It's been said many a time…read morebefore, wander along Duncan street, and you'll spot a bit of hide away signage, some tables and a door that leads you down into the depths within. By rights it should still be classed as a hidden gem, since it's off the standard track, but there's a reputation for excellence that now precedes it -and one that holds firm. For all the right reasons. Let's get to the taste of it, firstly. Tapas. Not just any tapas, but freshly made to order, with a chef whose passion for seeking out foraged foods, unique flavours and intriguing combinations continues to delight my mouth. I've seen a few items on the menu change, but there are still the stalwart choices that remain and so they should- the incredible chicken wings, beautifully breaded, and delectable with the dipping sauce. The humungous mushrooms, the perfectly cooked squid, the amazing chips. My friend took me here recently for their incredibly reasonable half-priced-tapas deal, and we ordered a mountain of food. Call me king of climbs, since we polished off the lot, and basically had everything on the menu. How about atmosphere? During the lighter hours, which make little difference in this spacious, illuminated cavern, you can find a varied range of coffee drinkers, wifi users, diners and other such folk. The staff have never failed to proffer warm welcome, and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the space -a glance at the walls reflect some of Leeds' finest local art and design. If you fancy tipples, there's a fairly fancy cocktail list to get excited over, and deals on appropriate days should you wish to save yet more pennies. The outside courtyard provides a fairy-lit yard, hidden away from the streets, tucked in behind the backs of several buildingswith miniature New York feel. (Try and catch the staff pulling down the fire escape stairs to the building, and you'll see what I mean.) Finally, what about entertainment? If you've ever fancied trying your hand at Salsa, you can join in the salsa dance classes from 7pm each Tuesday -beginners are more than welcome, and the class is very accommodating and friendly. It's easier than you'd think, and actually quite the laugh. No need for friends to accompany you either, since you all end up taking turns to dance with each other as well! But it's their DJ nights that have brought them the most renown. Effortlessly garnering some of the world's finest, their eclectic range of DJ events showcase some far ranging and serious talent- and I hope to dance until the wee hours at one of their parties soon. Music, food, and love, with just the right amount of booze thrown in. It's not just a bar, it's an emporium of awesome, that makes Leeds a much better place.

I was passing chicken express and decided to give it a go. I had to do a double take at the price list. £1.99 for 2 pieces of fried Chicken, fries and can of Pepsi. That can't be right I thought! I love fried chicken so that was what I ordered. The elderly lady who took my order was lovely and this is obviously a family run business. There was a steady trickle of people so I had to wait while my fries were cooked. I don't mind that because it means everything is fresh. Sure enough a couple of minutes later I received 2 pieces of lovely juicy chicken, piping hot fries and a can of Pepsi! What an absolute bargain. There are seats and tables if you wish to eat in as I did because it was raining outside. When I left the old lady smiled and said goodbye, charming. They have lots of meal deals on chicken, burgers, pizzas, kebabs etc... and for the prices they are charging it would be rude not to go back! The only downside I can see is that they are not open late at night.
