Dec 2023. Finally got the nerve to try the pasta. Keep in mind I AM the virtual Pope of orthodox Italian pasta on the east coast - and beyond. Italian American places are the same level as Olive Garden to me. So this young, brash unusual place with its strange un Italian but excellent pizzas is also as strange and excellent with its somewhat quirky pasta. Home made pasta very apparent in texture and taste. No doubt. Mushroom cream with lemon and pork cracklings etc. blew my orthodox mind. Nothing Italian even close - except for the insistence on the best local ingredients and max flavor. Weird stuff but I would eat here every night tho - except my own cuisine remains the greatest (as modestly stated as I can ). Saw they offered a puttanesca too. Nana's is always fantastic - the best pizza around and the menu is always interesting. The food is well thought out and perfectly made every time. Most recent visit we had the caldo gallego and it was amazing. Bakery items - particularly the sourdough doughnuts - shouldn't be missed. The most interesting cocktail menu I've seen in a while. A friend recommended Nanas Westerly when I was visiting Longos last night, so I had visit for brunch! Let's get to it! The food: *Egg-in-cheese sandwich. Farm egg, crispy cheddar, kale pesto, lemon aioli on a Portuguese english muffin....uhm... delicious! I've yet to meet a piece of bread I didn't like and having this Portuguese English muffin made me realize I've been missing out! Low-key sad. The cheese is actually crispy (I mean who doesn't love crispy cheese?!) and offers a nice texture contrast to the fluffy English muffin and creamy pesto-aioli. The pesto hits on the front of this sandwich but the citrus notes in the lemon aioli hit you on the back end of the bite. I can't say enough good things about the Portuguese english muffin. The muffin is just fluffy goodness. *The vibe: Nanas Westerly is not only offering great dishes but also giving all the aesthetics and some great tunes. This is a hidden gem. It is downtown but hidden in a parking lot. Inside is really cute and cozy, and is a perfect date night for a coffee. The server we had was really nice and attentive. The chai latte and squash drank were amazing! When I'm in town I will be returning for another coffee drink. We ordered slices of pizza. I enjoyed the dough and sauce. It was a little greasy but cooked fresh to order so it came out nice and hot. read more

I have always been a fan of Nana's. I found my last visit to be rather disturbing. This was based on the interaction I had with my waitress. I was insulted by my waitress when I asked her a very simple question. She then told me off by cursing at me and being hostile and disrespectful. And she did it in front of an audience of her coworkers. I reported this to the owner via email. I wanted to contact him first so he could respond and explain perhaps what happened that day. His response, although seemingly sympathetic, did not take actual ownership for his staff member's bad behavior nor did he explain why, perhaps, this even occurred in the first place. He suggested that he hopes to see me in the future at his restaurant. Why would I do that to myself? I am really nice to people and tip well. I deserve to be treated better. Especially at those prices. I want to see Nana's succeed, but this behavior permitted by the managing partners doesn't make me want to root for this place when I get treated like this. I feel really embarrassed. I really rooted for you all in the beginning with my Facebook, Google, Instagram, and Yelp reviews. The demographic that can afford this place won't put up with this type of nonsense from staff in a restaurant. Losing loyal customers is the fastest way to run a business into the ground. You have something special and you are ruining it. Do something about it by reading this and responding here with a solid statement this time. I came here for brunch with a group of friends on a Saturday morning. We were able to get a seat inside and were greeted right away by our server. Their drink menu was pretty large with a lot of different options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I got the matcha latte and thought it was delicious. They had a somewhat small food menu but all looked delicious. It was all quite expensive in my opinion for what you got. A egg and cheese sandwich, no meat, was $9. The food was good, but for the price I was expecting more. Overall it was a fine visit, just expect to spend a lot. read more

My daughter and I went here after a great hike at Grills Preserve, hungry and thirsty. Although the staff was friendly, we were told we wouldn't be served on the patio unless we ordered take out. It was a beautiful day so we settled for that. Our pizza arrived in a very timely fashion and was delicious. The Caesar salad, $17, was disgusting! Not even close to a Caesar salad. Wrong type of lettuce, no Parmesan cheese and no croutons! And then to top it all of a group of 4 walked in and were promptly seated outside at the patio with full waitress service! Cute looking place but we unfortunately didn't get to try to the food, so this is a review about the customer service. We came for lunch on a Saturday with a party of 8 (5 adults and 3 kids). There was an empty table for 6 and several empty tables of 2. The host said he couldn't seat our party because there weren't two adjoining tables that could be pushed together. Two ladies has just sat down at a table that could seat 4, next to the empty table for 6. They had not been served food yet. In a more accommodating place, they might have asked them if they would be willing to move one table over. But not at Nana's. When I asked if that would be possible the host replied "Well, they're already seated, so I can't ask them to move." I asked if he was going to be able to accommodate us, and he said he didn't think so. So we left. The host seemed uninterested in finding a solution. Not the worst experience, but just disappointing. read more

Came this morning. I think I was expecting more of a bakery. They had a few (very few) baked goods and they serve some breakfast items. I got the egg sandwich but unfortunately it was so oily I couldn't eat it-My hands were absolutely covered in the oil they put on it. Not good at all. The focaccia I picked up might be some of the best i've ever had though! I brought My husband the Sea Coast Mushroom toast and he said it was good. Might not rush back for breakfast but will certainly be back for more bread...like soon, really soon. read more

Aesthetically, I love the airiness of this establishment. The staff is pleasant and attentive. After coming from my doctors appt., I always treat myself regardless of the results of the appt. Basically, she told me to go vegetarian- which resulted in me getting a side of bacon. It tasted so good, though it was quite meager.( It was half a piece for$3.) I almost started to order more but that would've been pure decadence. I ordered the sourdough French toast. It had honey butter( I LOVE honey butter but this one not so much. It tasted waxy for me. ) There was a jam topping( a little sour for me) and a delicious granola topping w chia seeds. Also I ordered a medium roast coffee w oat milk that is so good. WOW! We had such a fun time at brunch here on Sunday. We chose to sit at the bar/counter and we are so glad we did. Hayley/Hailey (not sure how she spells it) was amazing. She made this experience so fun. From her amazing cocktails, to all the knowledge we gained by listening to her train others on how to make some of the cocktails - it felt like we should be paying a fee for the bonus class we got. We were all about it, and even got to try one of the cocktails after they made it - The Matcha Colada. It was the perfect ending to a great meal. The space is new to Westerly, it just opened about a week ago. They have their original restaurant in Mystic and brought the concept across the border to downtown Westerly (the historical part.) The interior is well laid out. Bright, clean and airy. The kitchen is an open-concept so by sitting at the counter - you definitely feel like part of the action. I got an espresso martini - Incredible, and for my meal I got the Nana's Breakfast plate. Two local eggs, slab bacon, homemade sourdough toast and homemade jam. DELICIOUS! First the good, friendly staff, clean interior, nice decor. Good strong coffee. Next the not so good. The food sounds appealing on the small menu but it's slow to come out and loaded with salt, I mean really loaded and I like salt. The others in my party agree from plate to plate too much salt. High prices accompany a cloth napkin and modest portions (especially the fries on a nearly $20 burger) poor climate control. Mix drink menu looked good but we were there for lunch. Came for dinner around 630 on a Friday night; the restaurant was crowded but seemed to thin out by about 7pm. There is parking in the back and on the street, another parking lot is a short walk away. The interior is gorgeous, food delicious with unique pairings and flavors and beautiful presentations. We also had a kale and bacon pizza which we thoroughly enjoyed. I visit my daughter who is a local resident in Westerly. We have never had an issue at Nanas. You would think a local establishment would recognize their patrons who visit frequently but clearly didn't last night. My daughter along with her future husband and friends after celebrating her birthday and their upcoming wedding arrived at 7:30. They were told that they close at 8, but could still come in to dine. They chose to dine outside to make it easy for the staff to keep the inside clean since they were closing soon. The group of 4 was very happy joking around and enjoying themselves. The waitress came over and was asked about gluten free option menu and they joked about going out afterwards. All of a sudden another staff member who served us on Father's Day showed up. Again, my daughter asked about the gluten-free option menu and this staff member was rude and answered we don't do gluten-free. Funny, you are the staff member who handed us a gluten-free option menu on FD for my other daughter. Then my future son-in-law asked for a drink and you refused to serve stating it appears you've already been drinking. Interesting how you didn't recognize them from coming in frequently for sourdough bagels, pizza and such, but somehow recognized that they had been drinking. Yes, they were. Intoxicated, no, but if you felt that, you didn't seem concerned when they got into the car to drive. I work in the restaurant business and if we ever feel someone has too much to drink, let alone a group of people, we ask for their keys and call a taxi for them. So what was the real reason? Was it because you were closing? Was the good time they were having offensive? You were rude as soon as you showed up and which was after they had interacted with a different wait staff. Was that staff member offended? Did they not know how to interact? Your business is based on repeat customers and local support. We will assume you are taking that for granted. I enjoyed my dining experiences every time I was there and ignored the fact that you have men preparing food with hairnets on their head yet sporting full on huge beards uncovered hanging over the food. We will not return to this establishment because you clearly forgot who makes up the establishment. Those are the people who support you which we will not! read more

Go before you can't get in. This place opened March 2022 according to wait staff but it is dialed in! We had the white pizza with ricotta and being from the New Haven area, I wasn't thinking it would impress but it was delicious, crispy, fresh. We also got the Caesar salad and the pullapart garlic bread - insanely good. We brought our 4 year old (she was the only little kid here) but they accommodated my request for pasta with butter and my kid has never eaten so much at a restaurant. Excellent! Chia pudding was even better than Mystic! Not milky which was a lot tastier... Love both locations. This one has wine and wait staff, and a tiny bar... everything clean and staff really friendly. Only one note to owner/managers... no way is anyone eating the bacon... I'm the only one I've ever seen eat it at Engine Room but they only leave a sliver of fat on the sides of each bacon cube. The bacon egg sandwich bacon I got was a slab o'fat... not crispy but jiggly fat, couldn't even try to cut or eat, ruined my whole day I was starving that morning... I had a feeling it would be like that, Grass and Bone style, but ordered it anyway... Please change the bacon or prep style, or burn the heck out of the fat, Bacon is the perfect form of Love... but only a real farmer or Viking could chew all that fat... Otherwise, Nana's is perfect! The pizza is indeed as close to NY pizza (I am from NY) as it gets and the eggplant appetizer and the Caesar salads were distinctive and wonderful.
